During the month of December alone, I sewed 44 garments for gifts (none have been posted). I got into pattern testing (which I quite like) and made some things that I may otherwise not have tried. I got back into quilting! One of the highlights for me was being a guest editor for @sewover50. In 2024 I plan to make some casual everyday wear because really that's is what I live in. It's been a few weeks since I was last working on making my mini summer capsule. With the launch of the new pattern updates I've had my eye off the ball with it but I'm excited to say I'm getting back to it this week. If you missed the introduction of this idea, I've been making my own mini summer capsule and sharing the process. Have a swipe for the pieces that have already been completed along with my original mood board. The photos were taken on every camera device I own (digital, film and phone) so there is no visual consistency which bothers me. Introducing a brand new #MSceliadress with a hacked dropped waist skirt. I've loved making this dress and loved wearing it even more. First day of #memademay2023 🥳 and here is a #msceliadress from @modern_sewing_co that I made at the end of last summer, so I was very excited to wear it again. I made a size 14 without any modifications. It’s a beautiful pattern, with facings and French seamed (2 piece) sleeves. The instructions are really clear. I love that it can be worn with the belt and without, for a louche look 😎. Cobalt Irish linen from @simplyfabricsbrixton (treasure trove).

I’ve had the pattern for the @modern_sewing_co #MSCeliaDress in my sights for several months, after they generously offered me to choose from their range of patterns to try out with no commitment to post about it. #gifted I picked this particular dress because I knew it could also double up as lightweight ‘coat’ as well as being a classic shirtdress so, with this in mind, I used the shot pink/teal linen I bought from @misanretail a couple of years back. It all went together beautifully although I did have to reread the side seam pocket instructions several times🤪 I think they are in as intended, anyway they function successfully as pockets so I’ll take that 😆 I like the two piece sleeve construction, a nice detail, and the collar and revere make a change from a classic shirt collar too. I did shorten the overall length by about 15cms as I felt it would swamp me a bit. I made a UK size 16 based on my measurements but I could possibly have gone down a size. I’m happy with it as it is though, there’s room to layer up underneath in colder weather. I’ve put a pair of @merchantandmills Eve trousers underneath along with a very old M&M #CamberSetTop from years ago. We‘re almost at the end of #memademay2025 my friends! In today’s outfit I made both the by now familiar #pomonapants and also the dress. I made the excellent @modern_sewing_co #msceliadress in this navy wool suiting that I am quite obsessed with and took over a year to decide on the garment it was to become. I am very pleased with the fit - I added a centimetre to the shoulders after having made it in linen the first time and I think the drape of this fabric makes this pattern really elegant. Not included in the pattern are the waist ties which I made long enough to tie at the sides or behind the back. I also added the white line of embroidery to the edges and I think this elevated the design nicely. Sometimes I think it has a kind of ecumenical vibe though 🤷🏼‍♀️😁

Throwback to this dropped waist hack of the #MSceliadress from last summer. This hack essentially involves cropping the dress to hip level and attaching a huge rectangle that gets gathered to make a full skirt. I wrote about this hack in the blog so you can catch up on the details there. It’s such a lovely piece to waft around in especially when it’s really hot 💛☀️

How is it only Tuesday!? 🤪 Finally got around to finishing this @modern_sewing_co Celia. It’s been sitting in a basket for the last 8 months - No idea why I stopped working on it but with my limited sewing time recently, decided to chip away at projects that I can do quickly but still allow me to feel productive. This is a size 18 in a hemp/cotton from Merchant and mills, no mods other than shortening 2”. I was worried the shoulders would be too snug for my broad back but it’s great. The color is hard to see in the photo but it’s a beautiful petrol/blue green. This whole time I was really struggling to choose the right pattern for it but I finally landed on the Celia Dress and I think it’s perfect! I didn’t quite have enough fabric so I had to use some scraps for one side of the facing as well as the pocket linings. I made a straight size 10 (UK) with no modifications. It’s such a classic shape that I think I’ll get loads of wear out of it! As soon as I finished it I started on another 😆 which I’m planning on wearing tomorrow! Finally wrapped up the last piece from the @modernsewingco capsule wardrobe course I did last year – say hello to my #msceliadress! 👗✨ Made from dreamy Tencel by Atelier Brunette (sourced from @kreando), and yes – it’s my first time sewing with Tencel. Verdict? Super soft, super pretty… but also a bit high-maintenance. 😅 A few things I learned: 🧵 Vlieseline and Tencel? Not besties. The interfaced part stayed stiff, the rest grew, and voilà – wonky hem. 🧵 Also, next time I’m skipping the hand-sewing on the yoke and going full burrito method. Even with the quirks, I love how it turned out. The cut is amazing and I’ll definitely be wearing this one on repeat. Already plotting one in linen… 😍 #sewing #sewistasofinstagram

#memademay2024 2 outfits in one day! Must be a weekend When I think of summer 2023 I think of this dress. It is the #msceliadress in a very bouncy linen from @blackbirdfabrics. Size 18 graded to a 20 at the hips for extra flounce. I love this dress and often use it as a comparator for new things I want to make- will I love it as much as my green dress?? Another Spring make to wear and share now that the weather is a little cooler … 🔹 The Celia Dress by The Modern Sewing Company #msceliadress @modern_sewing_co 🔹 I used a linen from @zygaparis in a lovely dark chambray blue with a white pin stripe - it’s mid-weight which gives the dress a good weight and makes it perfect for slightly cooler summer days and evenings 🔹 I love the maxi length with the open front - and other lovely details … - the slight gathering on the front shoulder and back yoke - the 3/4 two-piece sleeves - the deep neck and relaxed camp style collar - the way tying the belt loosely at the back gives some shape to the a-line style but still feels roomy to wear 🔹 The perfect put-together but comfortable summer dress 💙

#MeMadeMay2023 day 4 - wearing my second #MSCeliaDress by @modern_sewing_co for our penultimate day wandering and drinking wine around Rome 💚🤍❤️ It’s made from an old cotton bed sheet which was quite worn out, so the dress is a little sheer and very crumpled, and you can kind of see the facing and pockets through it, but it’s really nice to wear on a hot day! Here I am in my 65th year and I think I have finally narrowed down my style. This is a dress that makes me happy! I love the shirt dress style with the fitted sleeves/shoulders; I love the length and of course I love the caper green colour! The dress is classic but not boring. I have seen it on women many years younger but I like to think it works for me just as well. This is the #msceliadress from @modern_sewing_co . I sewed it up with organic linen from @wearethefabricstore . It is accessorized with fir cones and lichen. I hike through the forest everyday so it seems fitting to have a wood nymph photo shoot! My new #msceliadress @modern_sewing_co in @merchantandmills linen, slightly crumpled after a lovely day spending time with family. I made a size 14, no adjustments at all and I'm really happy with the fit - the skirt is quite wide, but I love the shape with the belt tied at the back, and it's perfect in this hot weather - cool and covered up!
