I made these trousers quick smart! Got this cool piece of fabric in Australia, and had them cut and sewn in a couple days and then wore them everyday for a week! The most comfy trousers I’ve made in some time! Thank you @modern_sewing_co for another excellent pattern. I finally got round to sewing the buttons onto my Jesse Jumpsuit yesterday. There's no chance I'll be finding time to get good photos for a while, so here's a very rushed and blurry snap of it from last night as we were running to make my birthday dinner reservation! I've actually made this jumpsuit for the purpose of DIY and gardening - because that's what I spend the majority of my non-office days doing and I'm fed up of living in gross old tracksuits and would like to answer the door to the posties looking semi-decent and feeling good about myself as I'm renovating 😅 But thought I'd wear it out for an evening before it gets covered in dust and paint. It's very comfy and the elastic waistband is great - ideal for the 5 course taster menu we enjoyed last night... Absolutely loved getting stuck into a more technical sewing project and this pattern was great with very clear instructions and easy to modify to suit my body shape and length. Hi, it’s been a while. I’ve been lurking here but trying to spend my down time making a habit of going to the gym, taking the pup for a walk in the evenings and of course sewing. When did adulting become so hard?! Speaking of sewing, I am wearing a Modern Sewing Co Jesse jumpsuit that I actually made in December with intentions to bring to London…well, I finished it and the body fit great but the shoulders were very snug and pulled on my arms when extended (not comfortable for me and an issue I have a lot). I was so disappointed because I love the fabric and just stuck in the back of my closet. Fast forward to last weekend - Hetty shared a post of a sleeveless Jesse and I knew that was the solution! I promptly seam ripped the sleeves and used bias binding to finish and it worked like a charm! I do think I may have taken off too much from the body as it’s a little bit of a struggle to wiggle off so I just need to make sure I don’t wait to long to go to the restroom 😆 here’s to revisiting and making changes to items that don’t work. I've had this dress in my head for around 3 years now! Very excited to finally bring it to life. I was first inspired by a dress made by the talented Margaux (@_domum ) , the dress had an 80's style fit and flare shape with a full skirt and open collar that I absolutely loved. Not to mention the fabric she made it in was awesome. I attempted my own version when I was still a beginner sewer (see the liberty dress right at the bottom of my grid!), which I was pretty pleased with at the time, but I never really loved wearing it. The choice of fabric wasn't quite right and the shape was a bit too oversized. Rather than making a circle skirt I also just gathered two rectangles, so it lacked that elegant shape and volume that I was after. I love how as I've gained more sewing experience, my ability to scrutinise garments and figure out their construction has also improved. Plus, I now have many more patterns in my artillery to hack into! This time round, I used the bodice from the #msjessejumpsuit , tapering the waist in slightly. I love this bodice and find the fit of it so flattering. The skirt is a gathered circle skirt from #domumcircledress which has all the volume in the world! I definitely forgot how much of a bitch the hemming is though 🫠 I was lucky to be gifted this stunning printed linen from @isolelinen which was the perfect match for this project. It's such a wonderful quality with just the right amount of drape vs structure. As the skirt is pretty heavy, I stabilised the waist seam with twill tape which worked a treat. I even went so far as to hand sew on buttons, which is perhaps only the second time I've done this since I've begun sewing 🤣 I couldn't be more happy with the end result. It really feels like a high end piece of clothing and moves like a dream. A rather hasty unplanned make for daughter who needed an elegant evening outfit for orchestra. @modern_sewing_co came to the rescue again with a blog on a silk version of the #msjessejumpsuit. Couldn’t find the right silk so ended up with beautiful silk velvet from @clothhouse. A very tricky sew as hadn’t made the pattern before and not ideal to do that in velvet but I just had to slow down and remember to baste and it turned out beautifully. Very happy daughter and I learnt loads.

The Jesse Jumpsuit - #msjessejumpsuit - is a great project for autumn. It's one that benefits from a slow pace of making and and it's highly wearable this time of year. I'm desperate to make one in wool or something with a brushed fleece underside but my make list is tooooo long...! This one is made in an indigo cotton with contrast topstitching and metal buttons.

Can’t get enough of this fabric, or the pattern to be fair. I really should make a plain version… but these loud prints I picked up in Aus are shouting to be this pattern again and again and again. And I’m getting pretty fucking fast at the construction. Like lightening speed. And the magic final touch was the buttons that I managed to find 3 matching ones in my stash. Here she issss my sweet #msjessejumpsuit !! Jumpsuits are probably my fav garments. I feel so put together with minimal effort. Obviously the print is a bit obnoxious. But one thing about me is I’m gonna buy polka dots and paisley every time!! This project was technically challenging for me but very fun to sew. My welt pocket is damn near perfect and you can’t even see it 😭 I made a size 8, taking 2.5cm out of bodice length and rise (so 5cm total). The instructions walk you through how much to adjust the pieces based on your torso measurement! My torso is quite long for my height so bodysuits and jumpsuits can be a problem. I also slashed and spread the sleeves about 3-4 inches which is another common adjustment I make for my body. I need armpit/arm room! Sleeves are also cropped from the original 3/4 length. I really recommend this pattern for a flattering and cozy jumpsuit. Maybe not for a beginner bc instructions are a tad sparse in some areas (not really meant for a beginner anyway). This is a slower project. Just cutting the pieces took me one day of creative energy. Fabric is upholstery cotton from @voguefabrics which was $2/yard‼️ My next Jesse will hopefully be made of lightweight denim so you can see my precious topstitching and welt pocket labor. #msjessejumpsuit @modern_sewing_co

While I wait for spring to truly take hold, the Jesse Jumpsuit by @modern_sewing_co is making for a great transitional piece. I absolutely loved this project, the instructions for the fit were great and the garment is so comfy. The birthday garment I gave myself this year came 1 month late because I chickened out and couldn't cut into the fabric. Most expensive fabric I've ever tried. Wool suiting 😭 With all my strength, I didn't even toile the pattern and eventually did succeed 🤣 Thanks to the detailed guidance from @modern_sewing_co on fitting adjustment 🙏 The garment is so comfortable to wear. This is my second #msjessejumpsuit this time in a wide wale corduroy from @stonemountainfabric I’m immensely proud. I used the fit notes from my first version (farther down the grid) and tinkered a bit to get the perfect fit (for me). The fabric is so soft and comfy. This is the @modern_sewing_co #msjessejumpsuit A beautifully drafted and well fitted get up, with a nifty welt pocket on the left boob for little treats and good sized pockets on the trousers for bigger treats. This is my second Jesse Jumpsuit. And I will be making more because I love everything about it. The construction process was a doddle and as with all MS patterns, finished to the highest standard. If you are looking for a jumpsuit with some shaping and comfort and interesting techniques you are yet to try like a lapel leading to buttons leading to a zip and a little welt pocket. //Sewing Jesse// This has been on my to do pile far too long , I think because I was a bit intimidated by the lengthy instructions but when it came down to it, it wasn't as difficult as I had imagined. I love a boilersuit, easy to chuck on, works for all seasons and practical for rearing small children. The pattern is @modern_sewing_co Jesse jumpsuit The fabric is a cotton twill from @fleur.et.ours and probably doesn't fall into the recommended fabrics for this pattern but I know from using it in another colourway that it does soften with wear. I made this in size 12, graded to 14 at the hips and the fit is great. I shortened the torso by 6cm and kept the trouser rise as in the pattern. This is I think the only downfall of the pattern- there are instructions on how to lengthen and shorten to suit your body but the advise is to take length away from both torso and rise, however it doesn't take into account body proportions- I have a very short torso but need the length in the waist to crotch. If I had shortened it per the pattern the proportions would be out for me. Other than that the instructions were really clear , even around the tricky facing fitting. I love this so much I have already made another in denim, with chambray lined up for the summer 🙈

I’d been eyeing up the @modern_sewing_co Jesse Jumpsuit after seeing some really lovely versions, but didn’t feel like I could justify buying the pattern having already got the Blanca and an edition of fibremood with the Leah (yet to make). Happily this was another part of the #sewajumpsuitchallenge prize so I didn’t have to feel guilty about it. I made this in 8oz denim from @fabricgodmother. Buttons are 20mm brushed gold, metal ones from an eBay seller (number-sixty). I liked lots of things about this pattern but I found it less intuitive than the Blanca. It calls for a big semi-circular facing topstitched along the back which I ended up cutting down because it made the back stand oddly and looking at some other versions on here it seems like a few other people have had to do the same. I thought I’d share my @modern_sewing_co #jessejumpsuit that I made back in August at the @craftysewingcamp - it’s the second Jesse Jumpsuit I’ve made and I used a cotton linen twill from @fabworksmillshop that was one of their fabrics of the month and a complete bargain. I have been wearing this black one more during winter as my other version is really summery. . The #msjessejumpsuit pattern is number 3 on the best seller list this month 💙 This light denim version is an oldy but a goodie. This pattern is up there with the most challenging makes in our range but it’s worth the effort. I recommend breaking down the sewing process to avoid overwhelming yourself - make the top one week and the trousers the week after etc... give yourself plenty of time to enjoy and lean into the details 💫

I felt like a more complicated project after a bunch of fairly simple sewing, and the #jessejumpsuit was certainly that! This is technically my muslin (I have some 8oz denim for an autumn version), but I’m stoked with how wearable it is. I enjoyed chipping away at this one over a few weeks, it was a bit challenging in a few places (the waistband and elastic nearly did me in) but everything came together very smoothly. I really like the fit of the pants, but I think I’ll size down and do an FBA for the bodice of my next one. Day 15 #handmadenovember2023 - the one where she said yes to the new job and the new employer went silent on the end of the phone 😂😂. Feeling over the moon and beyond today 😃. I love this outfit, I made it this spring and didn’t wear too much but it’s going to get some wear this winter because it hides my long johns😆.
