a short appreciate post I love wearing shorts now, the end… well not the end, an ongoing journey to enjoy wearing shorts 2022: @closetcorepatterns high rise #gingerjeanshorts as a wearable toile to check fit. Size 14 with 1” hacked out of the waistband and yoke an extra 1/4” added at the hips and 1/4” crotch lengthened. Pretty happy with the fit, might take more from the waistband and interface it for the real deal. My splash of fun with a wee self drafted contrasting coin pocket, liberty pocket lining and a cute jacron (leather patch) made and gifted by @layer_make. Definitely fit the perfectly imperfect label, biggest mistake, top stitching on the wrong side of the back crotch, but who’s going to know! Still enough of the @fabricgodmother kit left to make the full version later in the winter, definitely waiting till I have access to two machines as that was a game changer for top stitching! 2021: @truebias #hudsonpantsshorts hack with contrasting pocket band and hem facing. I added a curved hem detail at the side seam for interest and learning and now live in these all summer long, comfort central! 2020: @grainlinestudio #maritimeshorts size 12 with 1/2” removed from center back seam. New shorts and tank! Shorts are my go to @grainlineStudios #MaritimeShorts. I bought this bug canvas to bead and eventually turn into a purse. I loved it so much that I bought enough to also make a pair of shorts. I already posted a photo of a beaded compact mirror I made with the fabric and have a few other things planned with the scraps. 🪲🐞 Tank is the #SophiaSweetheart by @stayStitchPatterns. I’ve sewn the long sleeve a few times, but this was my first version of the tank. I rose the neck line 1 inch and will probably raise it another inch next time. ✂️✂️ worn for our 14th anniversary camping trip. Every year I make a passionfruit dessert since that was the flavor of our wedding cake, and every year we blow out a candle with a wish for our next year of marriage. 💖

Kicked off year 10 wearing me-mades! The Donny Shirt by @fridaypatterncompany wasn’t on my must make radar initially, but I’m so glad I made it! It’s highly likely that I’ll make it again because it’s so easy to make and wear. I used a gorgeous batik that I picked up from @AfricanBaskets at Quiltcon. This version has no modifications, but I could stand a full bust adjustment so I will do that when I whip up my next one. The @grainlinestudio Maritime Shorts turned out well despite my best efforts to ruin them. This pair has a fantastic swayback adjustment, if I do say so myself. I’ll need to shorten the front rise and zipper when I make them again. I don’t love the shape of the front pocket opening so I’ll make some changes there. I finished these shorts last night, and since I am trying to push myself to document my makes, here we go 😬🫠 I have now used this fabric for multiple projects and I still have some left, oh the possibilities! 😬😬😬 . Pattern: #maritimeshorts by @grainlinestudio . Size: 12, no mods, I actually cut the fabric last year after I made the blue tencel ones, but the weather changed and I never finished them. They are a lot tighter than the tencel ones since I have put on weight, but I am hoping they will stretch out a bit. . Finished these Grainline Studio Maritime shorts that I cut out in summer and now it’s pretty much winter. I added a coin pocket and rivets this time. I also did some extra topstitching details on the back pockets although it’s a bit hard to see as I used a topstitch thread colour that matched the denim. The shorts that convinced me! I found these maritime shorts in my stash from long ago (2018?) and only vaguely remembered making them, but for unknown reasons, not finishing them. Admittedly, the seam edge finishing could be better. Can I do a zipper? Yes! Is the top stitching perfect? Are the seams perfectly aligned? No, but good enough. I tried them on, and as sewn size 10, they barely fit, but the shaping does fit well, and WOW! to have made these before makes me feel like I can do anything! #maritimeshorts #grainlinestudio #handsewn

Welcoming a new week with my first non-elasticated waist shorts, zipper fly and everything! 🥳 . Making this #maritimeshorts was a bit of a challenge, but I took it step by step, carefully following the instructions, the sew along and all other resources provided by @grainlinestudio . The patience paid off and I have a new pair of shorts. 😅 . My hip measurement put me in size 4 and the waist on a size 8, so I choose to make a size 6. I’m happy with the result but I think I can go a size smaller. . This denim I used did had a little bit of stretch, so that may be it, nevertheless I think for next ones I’ll try the smaller size to get a more snug fit. . The only thing I did different was to make a bigger hem, I didn’t like the look of just a 1/4 inch hem so I increased it for 1/2inch. . Ce sont 2 patrons de @grainlinestudio. J’ai utilisé un twill organique rouge de chez @moodfabrics. Le fit de ces shorts est certainement à retravailler. Je dois entre autre raccourcir la fourche mais je n’ai pas eu le temps d’en faire une meilleure version encore. Puis je les porte énormément quand même! I love both of them and think with just a couple of tweaks, I will have some #tnt staples. . . ✨Top is the #hadleytop in the most wonderful silk noil from @stonemountainfabric . . . ✨I made a straight size 4 without any mods. I ended up cutting the facing in half around the arms and think I will make the armscy a little deeper next time. I like more movement around my arms. . . ✨Shorts are the #maritimeshorts and believe this is a cotton linen blend but could be wrong as I have had it for a long time. Picked it up at @fancytigercrafts . . . ✨I made a size 6 and added two inches to the length but made a wide bottom hem so probably only added an extra inch in the end. I had to take them in 1/2” on each side and am glad I did, they fit much better that way. New pair of #maritimeshorts hot of the machine. 😎 . Made a size 4 this time (my first pair was a 6) and am much happier with the result. I think they fit so much better. . Went for the size based only on the hip measurement. In fact, my waist is 29 and the size 4 refers to a waist 27, so I was a little concerned they would be tight but no, they’re very comfortable. . Gave it a try at top stitching with golden denim thread and found out it’s harder that it looks. But managed a little on the back pockets just that pop of color. 😅 . Made some black trousers using maritime shorts and the legs of burda 8704. Drafted some slash pockets. Fabric is like a wool polyester blend from savers. These are a little bit tight at the waist and hips but still wearable. More tweaks on fit for the next pair, I think I might try the stovepipe legs from the ginger jeans pattern (which I have but am yet to make - although I do use the instructions often). #sewingpants #sewingtrousers #grainlinemaritimeshorts #burda8704

From much-loved (but now too small) dress to new shorts, with a little help from Barnaby. I have a lot of lovely clothes that don’t fit so I am trying to repurpose them, this was my first attempt. The shorts are a modified #grainlinemaritimeshorts with a wider waistband (I like a high waist) and a slightly longer leg - as I wanted to re-use the original skirt hem. Pretty much everything that could have gone wrong during the sewing process did and I had a lot of issues getting a well fitting waistband but they are done and they are wearable! All fabric was re-used from this dress, another old dress (for pocket linings) or scraps (waistband lining). If the weather forecast is to be believed they may even get an outing in NYC next week! #reducereuserecycle #memade

New pair of #maritimeshorts hot of the machine. 😎 . Made a size 4 this time (my first pair was a 6) and am much happier with the result. I think they fit so much better. . Went for the size based only on the hip measurement. In fact, my waist is 29 and the size 4 refers to a waist 27, so I was a little concerned they would be tight but no, they’re very comfortable. . Gave it a try at top stitching with golden denim thread and found out it’s harder that it looks. But managed a little on the back pockets just that pop of color. 😅 . G R A I N L I N E W E E K E N D Finished up these two pieces this weekend. I love both of them and think with just a couple of tweaks, I will have some #tnt staples. . . ✨Top is the #hadleytop in the most wonderful silk noil from @stonemountainfabric . . . ✨I made a straight size 4 without any mods. I ended up cutting the facing in half around the arms and think I will make the armscy a little deeper next time. I like more movement around my arms. . . ✨Shorts are the #maritimeshorts and believe this is a cotton linen blend but could be wrong as I have had it for a long time. Picked it up at @fancytigercrafts . . . ✨I made a size 6 and added two inches to the length but made a wide bottom hem so probably only added an extra inch in the end. I had to take them in 1/2” on each side and am glad I did, they fit much better that way. Welcoming a new week with my first non-elasticated waist shorts, zipper fly and everything! 🥳 . Making this #maritimeshorts was a bit of a challenge, but I took it step by step, carefully following the instructions, the sew along and all other resources provided by @grainlinestudio . The patience paid off and I have a new pair of shorts. 😅 . My hip measurement put me in size 4 and the waist on a size 8, so I choose to make a size 6. I’m happy with the result but I think I can go a size smaller. . This denim I used did had a little bit of stretch, so that may be it, nevertheless I think for next ones I’ll try the smaller size to get a more snug fit. . The only thing I did different was to make a bigger hem, I didn’t like the look of just a 1/4 inch hem so I increased it for 1/2inch. . I got back to my creative blogging in time to mull over my #2018makenine goals. Even though I totally lost track of crafty things after the summer, I astounded myself by making 7.5 of the projects planned. Not all of them worked as I hoped, of course. But I learned a lot, like how to sew a zipper fly and not to buy fabric without a plan, to believe the gauge on a knitting pattern, and also more about what I like to make and what I like to wear. That's always good to learn, right? So... I cut out the shorts 2 days ago, and planned to start sewing last night. But when I went to thread the serger, I realized that the off white in the pattern is closer to white than cream. And the only white thread I had was cotton-- no good for stretch twill. Off I went to Joanns (yes really, just for white thread) but by the time I got back, it was too late to start sewing. And tonight I'm just too tired. I still hope to get these oversized floral shorts done this weekend-- we'll see what happens. 🌼🌼🌼
