Me-made May, days 20-24. It's been nice getting back into the swing of documenting things I've made, but I'm glad to be getting into the home stretch of taking mostly-daily photos. Monday: @grainlinestudio Penny Raglan in Kaufman Laguna jersey (grey) and mystery knit from a friend's destash (black) & RTW jeans. Tuesday: work shirt & Peppermint Pocket Skirt in linen/rayon blend. I love the drape of this but I wish I'd shortened it differently. I'm 5'3" and if I recall correctly it's drafted for 5'6" or 5'7". I took out an inch above the top of the pockets and two inches below, and I wish I had flipped that. The bottom of the pocket hits juuuust a little lower than I'd like. Wednesday: @openstudiopatterns Bumper Blouse in a fabric that someone donated to my work. It's a really nice blue-black that feels a little like a cotton and linen or hemp blend. Thursday: an all @elizsuzann 'fit. Georgia tee & Clyde work pants. Worn with a thrifted scarf 🧣 and my blundies 🥾 ⚫️ 📐Pattern: • #pennyraglan tee by @grainlinestudio • #mndawnjeans by @megannielsenpatterns in the skinny version 👖 ✂️Fabric: • black #hemp knit from @blackbirdfabrics 🖤 • black stretch (98%cotton2%spandex) (8-10oz I forget 🧐) denim from @kingtextiles ⬛️ 🧵Mods: • size 0 in the raglan, no additional mods • size 10waist graded to 6hips in the dawns (should now be 10w8h) • 1/2” swayback adjustment (it was too much. Switched to 3/8”) • took the legs in at the calf a bit more during the outer seam basting step • frayed hem What I learned 🤔 • used @ritdye dye fixative in a boiling pot to cure the denim bleeds. SHOULD have done this to the entire 2m of fabric. I think this step shrunk an already snug fit 😬 I think it helped the colour though! (I did prewash in warm before sewing) • I need a lighter weighted stretch denim for skinnies. I’m thinking a 6oz would be better than what I used. These are more so *standing concert* pants than sitting pants. 🎶😅 • black is the goat 👑

Greetings friends, I spent most of this year making a dissertation and making a new life in a relatively new town/state and making a job search turn into a job and some other meaty/energy-consuming tasks so have seldom showed up on the sewing Internet but I can't see a #memademay begin without wanting to join in myself because I love everyone's content so much, it's like going to a party full of old acquaintances. . Joining the party with a home sewn shirt and jacket and hand knit vest. I just knit the vest last fall, and love it and wear it often, including today, #MeMadeMay2023 day 1; I live in a 123-year-old house on the Great Plains where the gusting wind clocked in at 44 degrees Fahrenheit and 45 MPH just this morning so woolly vests are the height of practicality. I credit my friend @sunthshine for prompting me to knit it in advance of some academic conferences last fall, where we decided to test our abilities imitating that alchemical Scandinavian style of sweater vest + oversized tshirt + sneakers = inexplicable chicness. I did not achieve this (obviously) but I do have a utilitarian garment in one of my favorite colors as a consequence. . Materials/details (swipe for pattern info and random process photos): . Tshirt under my vest was sewn using the @grainlinestudio #pennyraglan pattern in size XS, in black bamboo knit fabric from Mood Fabrics . Vest was knit using the @petiteknit #stockholmvest pattern and has just about the nicest v-neck finish I've ever achieved, in a combo of @isageryarn silk mohair in color "moss" and @solitudewool 2-ply light worsted in an olive green, purchased at a farmer's market in DC approximately one billion years ago (2007?) and knit by 21-year-old me into a different, very early-aughts vest (read: extremely deep v, super fitted, lil' ruffle sleeves, three tank tops layered underneath), which I blessedly unraveled a few years ago to make something less dated 😂. My gauge was significantly larger than pattern so I knit a size XS in terms of finished dimensions only. . Jacket was sewn using the @stylearc #steviejeanjacket pattern in size 4, using a men's jean jacket I bought at a Philadelphia flea market [contd in comments]

I took a break from my usual WFH ensemble of a graphic tee and sweats to participate in my first Me Made May (!) with this fresh-off-the-machine make. I’m wearing the #PennyRaglan from @GrainlineStudio. My measurements put me at a size 10, but I sized down based on reviews and the finished measurements. I cut a size 4 for the front and 0 for the back side seams. (I’m hourglass-shaped and have a swayback). I also lengthened it by 3 inches (I’m 5’7” but a bit short-waisted). I’m pleased with the modifications I made, and could see this being a TNT pattern for me. Though I think I want to raise and narrow the neckline, as it juuuuust covers my bra straps. This was only my second attempt at a knit, so I messed up the neckline on my first try and had that debate between forging ahead anyway, throwing it in the naughty pile out of frustration, or unpicking the tiny zigzag stitch and trying again. This time, I opted to try again and I’m glad I did. The second time around was much better, even if I had to repair a hole I made with the seam ripper. Part of my motivation to make it work was this lovely stretch rayon jersey from @moodfabrics. It’s luxuriously soft with a great drape, and the photo isn’t doing the vibrancy of the color any justice. I’ve been sewing for about a year and a half, teaching myself through YouTube videos, blogs, and patterns with detailed instructions. I’m so grateful to the online sewing community and everyone who shares their knowledge freely so I could be on this journey. #memademay #memademay2025 #madewithmood

I made two Penny Raglans from @grainlinestudio: the first with scraps of French terry and Japanese eyelet, the second with a blend of organic cotton and hemp from Homespun Boutique in Tburg. For the first, I didn’t have quite enough of the French terry so I deconstructed a tee I made ages ago and had a “make it work” moment. The best thing about traveling in me-mades is that you can cover yourself with pockets. - I made a pair of #pomonapants by @annaallenclothing using fabric from #lottajansdotter. Her fabric is screen printed by hand in a cotton/linen blend and so comfortable and hard wearing. I put big patch pockets on the sides of the legs. - A #unfoldingjacket by @shopwiksten with the built in pocket hack - A #bumbasticbag by @dora_creadora. I had a remnant of the same #merchantandmills oilcloth that she used, so I copied her bag, except that I wanted it a smidge smaller, so I printed the pattern at 90% - Oh, my old #pennyraglan by @grainlinestudio has no pockets

Why hello. This is my ice dyed #pennyraglan by @grainlinestudio . . . If you follow my stories, (lots of babies and otherwise really riveting content), you’d know we have been on an ice dying spree at my house the past couple weeks. It was in the high 90s and playing with giant bags of ice seemed fun. We did the kid stuff first (tiny baby T’s!) because I wanted to see what dye combos I liked (yes I let my kids take the lead on design and then copied them 😄). . . . . I got the dye and cotton jersey fabric from @dharmatradingco . The fabric is perfect t shirt weight, so soft and comfy. I followed an article on @seamwork by @sakijane which was incredibly helpful. One important thing I learned is you really don’t need too many colors. The magic of ice dye is that you get a big variation from just two colors, maybe three max. That’s truly the fun—unlike straight dip-dying, the process of ice dying causes the dyes to break down into their different color components. In this penny raglan tee, I only used two colors of dye, but I ended up with such a lovely variation of hues. I chose the colors daffodil (deep yellow) and wisteria (pale blue with a hint of purple). Another variation I didn’t expect was that I got slightly different results when it was less sunny— I’ll post that one soon! Davon gibt es kaum Fotos, weil es beim Anhalten noch höllenheißer war. Essen gab es auch nicht zu kaufen aber es war noch Vorrat da. Das improvisierte Abendbrot war überraschend gut. Sonntag bin ich nur vormittags zum Supermarkt gefahren und habe den Rest des Tages gelesen. Inzwischen ist es auch ein wenig abgekühlt, nur noch 28 Grad. I re-wore my #pennyraglan, this time with a soon-to-be-released @merchantandmills pattern - the Mathilde skirt - this is my tester version and it’s coming end of the month with a couple of pocket options. Made in the softest Indian cotton called ‘over the rainbow’(also from@M&M). I made a matching bandana and hand rolled the edges which took way more time than I was anticipating when I made it, but worth it for the finish 💅🏼
