A beautiful afternoon to show off my faux leather pants. The petrol colored fabric is from @blackbirdfabrics and the starting point for the pattern is the #mnflintpants I elongated them and added darts at the hem for a bit of a balloon shape. The pockets are lined with a scrap of Liberty cotton lawn. I didn’t want the waistband to “stick” when I wore untucked tops, so I used petersham ribbon for the inside of the waistband. The top is from a lovely coordinated cotton jersey from @stylemakerfabrics fall collection. I used the tried-and-true @grainlinestudio #larktee

#blpdulce skirt worn with #vikisews_riana and a long sleeve #larktee . If you saw my stories the other week you would’ve learned I have mixed feelings about the blazer. The skirt on the other hand, is love at first sight 😍. I made a size 10, shortened by 4cm (I’m 152cm) which matched with my measurements, and it all came together really easily. All, except for the moment when I needed to bag out the lining and the skirt. The instructions and the photo alongside them were really unclear and I spent probably almost half an hour getting completely confused until I found a video series on the @bellalovespatterns YouTube channel that shows every step for sewing the skirt. And lo and behold, the instructions in the video were completely different to the pattern - no wonder I was getting nowhere! The video tutorials are super helpful, and I will definitely remember them for next time! I have been pretty hopeless with posting this May. But I knew it wouldn't be easy to keep up. Safe to say I have worn memades every day... as I do nearly every day anyway. Here are some of the things I've worn on days I didn't post. What I Did On A Rainy Wednesday: made a new-to-me pattern from stash fabric. I won the Lark Tee pattern in Lou’s @sewmuchtodesign sponsored monthly roundup a few months ago. The pattern has been around for ages and is a firm favourite with many; I can see why! Three necklines and four sleeves give lots of options. This is the boatneck. I made it according to my measurements and I’m so pleased with how it has come out; not too tight and not too loose. I chopped 4” off the hem though (I’m 5’6”) This neckline is just turned and twin needled (photo 2), just like the hems. I didn’t have perfectly matching thread so chose two different ones for the top and a third for the underside. All other construction was done on the over locker so was super quick. Lovely denim striped cotton Lycra from @sarahsimplelifeuk . I think there’s enough left for a short sleeved tee (I’ll try a different neckline). Back to the audit... I went through trousers and jackets today, wearing a navy slimline version of the Ash jeans and a boat neck Lark tee. (Cotton jersey from @1stforfabrics ) Why does there seem to be so much when I still seem to need more? The list of things I want to add is getting longer, and there are only a few things being weeded out. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I haven't put belt carriers on my jeans until now. I added them to the baggy pair just because I fancied trying a belt, and I decide to add them to these jeans after a few months, because of mistakes I made when I made them. First, I didn't wash the denim ( it's indigo stretch from @justsewpenrith lovely fabric!) Then I didn't interface the waistband. The result?? The waist became baggy, and the width shrank, causing them to need constant pulling up. Today I've worn them with a belt, and life has been much easier. So... always wash the fabric!! And.... always interface the waistband. Hi I made a t-shirt. Fabric: Retro Stripe Jersey from @blackbirdfabrics. Though it looks the same on both sides and doesn’t curl, so jury’s out about its true Jersey origins. It’s real stretchy comfy and great quality, no surprise. Pattern is #larktee by @grainlinestudio in crew neck, size 6, with broad shoulder adjustment 💪. Hems coverstitched. photos from last month (because in “sunny” San Diego, June can sometimes mean wool and leather) – a new @grainlinestudio #larkTee. Made from a stretch mesh so I skipped all hems which means the whole thing is three seams and therefore probably my quickest make ever. The skirt is a dead stock wool that I made a few years ago. And a leather jacket I’ve owned since early Y2K so it’s officially vintage.

My sewing machine started playing up last year and that, plus the work related stress situation, meant I completely lost my sew-jo. But the machine has had some excellent care from the team at @the_sewing_studio and the stress is relieved and this is the result! I haven’t shared many of my allotment outfits for Me Made May, but here’s one that’s a favourite. Stripes #LarkTee worn with linen full length #PheobeBibAndTucker dungarees. These are so good for gardening in, I used the pockets from the Zadie jumpsuit so they’re nice and roomy. The wide leg and loose fit is great for keeping cool and moving comfortably. I had this prime merino from @wearethefabricstore in my stash since 2019. I really don’t know why I have kept it unused for so long- I guess because I wasn’t excited by the idea of sewing just basic layers that often go unseen by anyone but me. Then this January, perhaps motivated by Nikko top and dress month over at @truebias, I decided to plunge and I batch-sewed two Nikko tops and two Lark crew neck long sleeved tees and I cannot express how wonderfully soft, warm and luxurious they feel against my skin as base layers, with tons of possibilities for layering with other garments in my wardrobe. For the Nikko I cut a 6 at the top grading up to an 8 at the hips, as per my measurements and the fit is body-hugging. For the caramel Lark I cut a 6 at the top/ 8 at the hips as per measurements and the fit was loose all around, so for the brown one I sized down to a 4 all around and the fit is close to the body, which I prefer for a base layer. I applied knit stay tape to the shoulder seams and the hems and hemmed with a double needle. I’m on a roll 😄 3 posts in 3 days (it won’t last as back to reality i.e. work tomorrow 😒) . Started 2022 with a quick make that I’ve made numerous times, a @grainlinestudio #larktee. This is my go to jersey top for sure, I love that it’s nice and long and it has 4 different neck options and sleeve options. This is the crew neck although I lowered it by around 1 1/2 cms. I saw a top like this with a yellow neckband (it also had a yellow waist band and black think black cuffs) years ago so nice to finally get round to recreating my version 🤣 . While I’ve got the ballpoint needle in the machine, I thought I’d whip up a couple of #larktees. Cutting out this pattern was the hardest part, as I wanted to ensure all my stripes lined up. I traced my pattern piece so I could cut my fabric as a single layer, which really helped with matching up my stripes. I’ve been happily working away in my sewing room, but not sharing my makes, so here’s two in one photo. The trousers are the new Meadowlark hiking pants from @lovenotions . I’ve made them in a lightweight tencel cotton fabric that I bought from @rejectsdepartmentstore in Kirkcaldy. It’s rare occasion for me to buy fabric in person at a shop and I was very pleased to find some that was just right for the new pattern. I’m really pleased with the trousers and plan to work on the fit for the next pair, as they are quite roomy over my posterior! There are some leg pocket options with this pattern, but I did just the back pockets as I was focusing slimming down the legs to get a reasonable fit. The front pockets are integral to the pattern, with an interesting construction. I like the flat front waistband and faux fly detail. The elasticated back waistband makes them very comfortable. The tee shirt is a @grainlinestudio Lark Tee, my go to pattern for a basic tee. I’ve lost count of how many of these I have made! This navy jersey has been in my stash for a very long time, I cannot remember where i got it from. It’s a lightweight cotton jersey with a lovely drape, so good for a basic summer tee shirt. These are the Reeve Culottes by @StyleArc. I love the idea of culottes, own more than a few patterns and yet, rarely make them. Go figure. The substrate is a wool gauze & was purchased two years ago @stonemountainfabric . I had a delightful day there with @DillmanNirmala marveling through this amazing fabric store. Pink lemonade anyone? This pink lemon tee is my first entry for the #sewfruity25 challenge hosted by @blossomsandwich I used the #larktee pattern by @grainlinestudio and a jersey knit from @fabricgodmother to make this. I sewed a size two and removed 1.5 inches from the waist and 2 inches from the hem. This is the scoop neck view. I’ve had this fabric since last year intending to make a tee shirt and I thought about doing it every time I had pink thread in my serger (which is often), but this challenge was great motivation to finally get it sewn up! Info for the challenge: I’m located in the United States.

After 7 am boot camp, a walk with my husband, grocery shopping, two loads of laundry, and a couple of hours in the garden, I VERY nearly skipped #memademay in favor of RTW loungewear. I had this prime merino from @wearethefabricstore in my stash since 2019. I really don’t know why I have kept it unused for so long- I guess because I wasn’t excited by the idea of sewing just basic layers that often go unseen by anyone but me. Then this January, perhaps motivated by Nikko top and dress month over at @truebias, I decided to plunge and I batch-sewed two Nikko tops and two Lark crew neck long sleeved tees and I cannot express how wonderfully soft, warm and luxurious they feel against my skin as base layers, with tons of possibilities for layering with other garments in my wardrobe. For the Nikko I cut a 6 at the top grading up to an 8 at the hips, as per my measurements and the fit is body-hugging. For the caramel Lark I cut a 6 at the top/ 8 at the hips as per measurements and the fit was loose all around, so for the brown one I sized down to a 4 all around and the fit is close to the body, which I prefer for a base layer. I applied knit stay tape to the shoulder seams and the hems and hemmed with a double needle. I’m on a roll 😄 3 posts in 3 days (it won’t last as back to reality i.e. work tomorrow 😒) . Started 2022 with a quick make that I’ve made numerous times, a @grainlinestudio #larktee. This is my go to jersey top for sure, I love that it’s nice and long and it has 4 different neck options and sleeve options. This is the crew neck although I lowered it by around 1 1/2 cms. I saw a top like this with a yellow neckband (it also had a yellow waist band and black think black cuffs) years ago so nice to finally get round to recreating my version 🤣 . Finished my Lark Tee for when I go running. It’s not bad for a first make with a technical fabric and being a coverstitch novice. I made a size 14 this is a slim fitting tee I wanted something loose and not close fitting. The hem and neckline are cover stitched but I had to resort to a twin needle for the sleeve hems. The hems on the sleeve were just too narrow. I need to amend the pattern for a larger hem next time. I’ve also ordered a clear presser foot for the coverstitch so I can actually see where the needles are stitching. Finally got around to fixing a top I made some time ago which resulted in today’s outfit actually being fitting for #memademay ! The top was a #grainlinelark that I’d made from a heavily discounted fine merino wool, but it always felt a little too bright and bumblebee-ish, plus the fit wasn’t great, so I only wore it occasionally as a thermal. However, yesterday I dipped the whole thing in black dye, spent all of 5 mins adjusting the fit, and now I love it! Wrapping up this round of my search for the perfect tee and the @grainline Lark is still my No. 1. Something about this cut just appeals to me. Maybe it’s the option for the baby tee sleeves? What I Did On A Rainy Wednesday: made a new-to-me pattern from stash fabric. I won the Lark Tee pattern in Lou’s @sewmuchtodesign sponsored monthly roundup a few months ago. The pattern has been around for ages and is a firm favourite with many; I can see why! Three necklines and four sleeves give lots of options. This is the boatneck. I made it according to my measurements and I’m so pleased with how it has come out; not too tight and not too loose. I chopped 4” off the hem though (I’m 5’6”) This neckline is just turned and twin needled (photo 2), just like the hems. I didn’t have perfectly matching thread so chose two different ones for the top and a third for the underside. All other construction was done on the over locker so was super quick. Welcome to another edition of "who wore it best" where I copy another Villanelle outfit from Killing Eve! This outfit was worn in Amsterdam in season 2 episode 4. I would have loved to go to Amsterdam to get pics but sadly it's 2020 so you get my living room!! The inspiration pics are at the end, but the outfit was an asymmetrical pink blazer (I kept it symmetrical for more wearability!) which I used the @closetcorepatterns Jasika pattern to copy, blue floral trousers, which I used the @ninaleelondon Portobello trousers pattern and a @riflepaperco rayon to copy, and a white t-shirt with red lips on. I didn't want to copy the design directly so I put my own design in the same colours, and used the @grainlinestudio lark t-shirt pattern. Back from my morning walk wearing my latest scrappy tee. I’ve had these remnant pieces laying around for a while. Monday I started laying them out and seeing what pattern might work. Yesterday I cut out and sewed the #GrainlineLarkTee. It’s one of my favorite tees. For this version, the only change was to add a front yoke. Needed to add a front seam. Added some decorative stitches to highlight it. No hem for the sleeves. Coverstitched an 1.5 inch hem. One more entry for the #magamdopaminedecember tee party. AD| I absolutely love this blue skies jersey fabric, perfect for bringing a little bit of spring into your wardrobe on a cloudy (or rainy day). While I’ve got the ballpoint needle in the machine, I thought I’d whip up a couple of #larktees. Cutting out this pattern was the hardest part, as I wanted to ensure all my stripes lined up. I traced my pattern piece so I could cut my fabric as a single layer, which really helped with matching up my stripes.
