These two makes are also one of my oldest WIPs (the skirt) and quick make in a fabric I bought only last week from @the_makerstudio ! I just love when two things seem to be made for one another. I love both of them together and they’ll get a lot of wear apart. I do think I’ll pop a couple of hidden snaps between the buttons on the skirt just to hold the placket straight and prevent gaping over the tummy - as it wants to do. Took my nephew and his gf to see Conan Gray and obviously we dressed the theme. They only had 3/4 yard left and I thought I could get a short sleeve shirt out of it but that jammed me up and I had to piece black leftovers on the sleeves and cuffs. I cut the shorter view hoping I could get short sleeves but that still didn’t work. I felt it was too short so added the black band at the bottom and all is well. I made a basic black top #ddorage from some bamboo/Merino that was donated by someone at the #instagramsewistspicnicyvr . It's very warm and lightweight, great for travel!! I like the deer and doe orage better than the Dawson top because it fits me a lot better, I made just a slight modification to make the waist larger, but everything else is the same. I am wearing old me mades too! My #mossskirt which was the first skirt I ever made (a bit too big) and #jalieclara leggings made from red heat fabric (#discoveryfabrics ). I wear these so much in winter I'm glad I have an extra metre in my stash for when these wear out.

New pair of #oseglennon in raspberry pink velvet, with no folds at the bottom legs to get the maximum length (here 80 cm from crotch). The pictures don't do justice to that gorgeous fabric found in the Fashion District on Wednesday afternoon. Afraid of having too many layers of fabric on the waist to size down, it's again a full 38 (US 6-8). The next one will have to be full 36 (US 4), I had to move the button as far as I could, and the belt is not optional. Those trousers are hard to match shoes-wise (here navy Gazelle), so any idea is welcome! Liesl + Co. Classic Shirt & Grainline Studio Moss Skirt I have been on a mission to find a go to button down shirt. I decided to try the @lieslandco #lieslandcoclassicshirt and I think I love it! The construction was a little different than other patterns I have made but I really enjoyed it. I think the finish is lovely and will be making lots more. I sewed view b in a size 4 with no adjustments. The fabric I used was a Kate Spade fitted sheet I bought in a set on sale at @homesense_us. I finished it with pearl snaps since I couldn’t decide on buttons. I paired my new shirt with a @grainlinestudio #mossskirt. I made this with the leftover fabric from the Morgan jeans I made recently. I sewed a size 8 and could probably size down as this is a bit roomy. Overall I like the shape but I didn’t love how the zipper went in. A friend gave me this this gorgeous rayon fabric she bought in 1993. I found this fantastic pattern #lafayetteblouse @sewingandthecity with amazing sleeves. I didn’t have enough of the floral for the under sleeve but she also gave me a piece of purple lining so I was able to use that and I think it turned out quite delightful. Love love love the sleeves. I finally got around to adding pockets to the back of the #mossskirt @grainlinestudio. I only had enough scrap fabric for one whole pocket and had to piece the second with scraps but it’s a pocket! In the pink velvet remnants, I made a #grainlinestudio #mossskirt. Size 4 at the waist, size 6 at the hips. My back is quite arched, so the next version of the skirt (sewn in a green denim I had in stock) was adjusted to a 2 in the center back pieces. I love it, but velvet clings to my tights, I will have to add a hidden satin ribbon in the hem to prevent this. Bad photo taken in the school hall, nothing better for today!

Hey June Handmade Amherst Shirt I have had the @heyjunehandmade #AmherstShirt for a while but hadn’t made one till now. I have made a few Gilbert shirts but wanted a different short sleeve shirt so I finally made an Amherst. I used this fruity cotton poplin fabric from @minervadotcom. I sewed a size 4 with no adjustments. I sewed the majority of this on Friday @urbansewciety Sewing WIP session. I may have sewed the plackets on wrong had to unpick, an incident with an iron and sewed the fronts on the wrong sides but everything was fixable. It was my first time sewing with other people in person since home ec many years ago. I may have made mistakes but it was still really enjoyable. Overall I really like this shirt and I will be making more, I even bought more fabric at @urbansewciety Friday to make my next one soon. I’ve finally made the denim skirt that I’ve been wanting in my wardrobe for so long 💙 This is the Moss skirt pattern by Grainline Studio. It’s a pattern I’ve sewed up before and I find it comes together really nicely. I made a size 0 at the waist, grading out to a size 2 at the hips. I lengthened the skirt by a couple of inches and adjusted the back yoke piece for my sway back. The pattern doesn’t call for topstitching but I really enjoyed adding lots of topstitching to give the skirt a classic denim skirt look. I used Gutermann denim thread, which is slightly finer than topstitching thread. You can use it in the bobbin too, which is quite cool. The fabric is a mid-blue 11.7oz rigid denim from Guthrie-Ghani. It’s a really nice weight for a skirt. I hope this skirt will become a bit of a staple in my wardrobe, a piece I can wear through the seasons. I’m looking forward to seeing how the denim washes and wears too. I made a @grainlinestudio #mossskirt this weekend and really enjoyed it! Corduroy is so easy to sew (compared to my usual viscose) and I had fun using some new techniques. This was my first zip fly and it turned out pretty OK! I also did a blind hem and my #pfaffcreative15 made it super easy. Oh and (breaking news) I handsewed the waistband on the inside and didn't hate it! Didn't love it as well but let's call it progress ;) Fabric details: the corduroy has been in my stash for 1,5 year, I used part of it for a skirt that didn't fit. I think I bought it at #karterisstoffen. Pocket lining is cotton poplin bought at @deelenstoffen and was a remnant of the PJs I made my mom last year. I made myself another Moss Skirt in another size just to see what the go was with the waistband and yoke. I cut and made a straight 10 this this time, no alterations needed EXCEPT I needed a size 12 waistband. A straight size 12 waistband fit perfectly on a straight size 10 skirt. I have to wonder if my pdf copy of the pattern is mislabeled? (No, I didn't put it on upside down, I triple checked). This time I used a chambray from @spotlightstores and another super delightful @hansenprintandtex remnant as a contrast waistband and hem facing, and for the pocket linings. It's such a cute little print. Finished with another vintage button from my stash. I also decided to add some top stitching this time, which I really like, and will be definitely doing again next time I use this pattern! So there you go. Measured 14, needed a 10! Lol. That's enough stitching for today - right now I'm going to down some lunch and take my fury kids to the river for a swim before the real kids get home from school. I made myself another Moss Skirt in another size just to see what the go was with the waistband and yoke. I cut and made a straight 10 this this time, no alterations needed EXCEPT I needed a size 12 waistband. A straight size 12 waistband fit perfectly on a straight size 10 skirt. I have to wonder if my pdf copy of the pattern is mislabeled? (No, I didn't put it on upside down, I triple checked). This time I used a chambray from @spotlightstores and another super delightful @hansenprintandtex remnant as a contrast waistband and hem facing, and for the pocket linings. It's such a cute little print. Finished with another vintage button from my stash. I also decided to add some top stitching this time, which I really like, and will be definitely doing again next time I use this pattern! So there you go. Measured 14, needed a 10! Lol. That's enough stitching for today - right now I'm going to down some lunch and take my fury kids to the river for a swim before the real kids get home from school. #memademay2020 Day 31 : Lucky last. Reflecting on the last month : - I set out to simply document what I wear on a day to day basis. There is a vast chunk of my wardrobe not getting worn at the moment, because of #covid lockdown, but I was pretty pleased that my #homemadewardrobe was still up to the task of dressing me in something different each day. - I don't think I wore a skirt at all, so I opted for a very well worn denim #grainlinemossskirt today. So well loved it's starting to wear through in several places. - I have a lot of clothes that need mending. This skirt and my #kotosweater for example. - I don't find much time for mending. Especially with the current time crush of juggling working, home-managing, mothering, partnering etc etc etc all from home. But even under normal conditions, new ideas and projects take precedence until I'm eventually hit by a burning need or desire to use the unmended garment. I need to work on that. Wearing mended handmade clothes is much more sustainable and grounding than just making something new. - I haven't been able to find much time for sewing lately either, despite a need to fill wardrobe gaps and flex some creativity. I'm grateful to past me for making so many things, and particularly grateful for my quarterly craft camp weekends - they're my main opportunity to sew these days. Farewell #mmmay2020 I've enjoyed the process of noticing and reflecting. With so much shit going on in the world this year, and particularly right now, I feel incredibly fortunate that I've been able to do this. Channeling a 1970s lady about town in my modified #grainlinemossskirt (unfortunately available only up to size 18 - 37” waist and 47” hip) in the very last of my green #ConeMillsDenim vintage Simplicity #s9872 (with lengthened sleeves) in brand new #NeridaHansenFabrics tencel/linen. These two makes are also one of my oldest WIPs (the skirt) and quick make in a fabric I bought only last week from @the_makerstudio ! I just love when two things seem to be made for one another. I love both of them together and they’ll get a lot of wear apart. I do think I’ll pop a couple of hidden snaps between the buttons on the skirt just to hold the placket straight and prevent gaping over the tummy - as it wants to do. I still dream of finding more of this denim. I had jeans made out of it that sadly I grew out of. My #ApexPouch by @incompletestitches I made this to organise my large tangerine tote into compartments. That it’s the most perfect knitting project bag wasn’t a coincidence 💚 #inCompleteStitches bag patterns are amazing in their design, variations and value for $. This is the large (small also included), drawstring top (zipped option in both sizes included) with all the pockets (ok, there are zippers too!). So many different styles from the one distinctive design before contrast colours are even considered. I chose the orange fabrics first. Liberty from the #Philipsshirtfactory clearance and two Japanese cottons from @fibresmith . The green denim was used for a #grainlineMossSkirt a lifetime ago. The instructions are illustrated and logical - with some page flipping depending on the options chosen. And in the Apex, all seams are straignt though there are some very lovely curves in other designs. Used the other half of the linen I bought from the lovely @silkkitie to make this modified @homerandhowells #jennyskirt and here it is in all its rumpled glory! This is how it looks after two days in the office. Modifications: - zipper fly made according to instructions in the book #sewtionary by @sewaholic - added a lined hem band similar to that in the #grainlinemossskirt The shirt is extremely comfortable with it's high waist and the length turned out quite perfect. It's a bit large - should have made size 12 instead of 14. But nevertheless, I love the skirt and will definitely use it a lot! I wore the same thing several tears ago, my hand mades last a long time... despite the length the Moss is comfortable even when chasing after toddlers and sitting on the floor (I wear shorts underneath)

My new top using vintage 80s Vogue (Vogue 8860) pattern. I bought this fabric specifically for this top, because I have made this pattern before. It uses less than a metre of fabric, which given the expense of fabric at Britex is just as well! Just a few details on the construction: The pattern is one of those "fussy" vintage patterns that takes quite a time to construct, there are nine button holes to make (5 for buttons and four for the ties) and then there is making and attaching the bias tape casing on the inside and attaching the facing. Most of this "fuss" isn't even visible on the outside! All worth it though I think. Day 3 - Violet: ---- Analogous ----- I don't have much violet in my wardrobe, and this is probably the most purple outfit that I've been able to throw together this week. Strangely, I actually made the pale violet top to go with the skirt, because I got fed up with wearing only black tops with the skirt. I'm still not totally convinced the skirt and top look good together. What's your verdict? Back to the black tops again? I made a @grainlinestudio #mossskirt this weekend and really enjoyed it! Corduroy is so easy to sew (compared to my usual viscose) and I had fun using some new techniques. This was my first zip fly and it turned out pretty OK! I also did a blind hem and my #pfaffcreative15 made it super easy. Oh and (breaking news) I handsewed the waistband on the inside and didn't hate it! Didn't love it as well but let's call it progress ;) Fabric details: the corduroy has been in my stash for 1,5 year, I used part of it for a skirt that didn't fit. I think I bought it at #karterisstoffen. Pocket lining is cotton poplin bought at @deelenstoffen and was a remnant of the PJs I made my mom last year. The skirt is also for my mom and I really hope it fits her! Maybe you saw it in my stories, but this #DonnyShirt was meant to be a wearable muslin for a future project and… I actually love it! I made my usual #FridayPatternCompany size (L) with no edits. I thought I’d want to add length or a full-bust adjustment, but after consulting with my panel of experts (aka my buddies at work at the fabric store), I think it’s perfect as is. The fabric was a free bin find from pre-pandemic, it’s a lightweight cotton sheeting. Next time I’ll use a lighter interfacing (ShirtTailor is slightly too stiff, but I’ll live with it).
