I have two new makes. One is a pair of wide legged trousers made by changing up the Helens Closet Arden Pants pattern and one is the Grainline Studios Scout Tee. Both fabrics are from Minerva, the trousers fabric was gifted for a blog post. The fun design on the trousers viscose linen blend fabric is called Expressive Whimsy and the top is made from a cotton lawn fabric.

This make started off as a request from @hazzle.frazzle for a pair of shorts but when I’d cut out a pair of @wavesandwild #pauseforshorts I realised I had enough fabric left for a vest top too! So an accidental co-ord set! So here’s my first entry for #ST4S25 this year’s version focussing on co-ord sets and hosted by @sewing_in_spain & @jenleggsews 🪡 The viscose fabric with multi coloured monstera leaf print and a very slight woven stretch is from @littlelegsfabrics . The top is a #scouttee trimmed at the armsyce with bias bound neck, arms and hem and French seams to minimise fraying which used the remaining offcuts of this fabric. I doubt I’ll have pic of my daughter wearing this as the logistics of getting makes to her since Brexit the customs fees on any parcels I post to the Netherlands make it prohibitive. Shirbori Indigo dying workshop results! Yesterday my mum & I attended a Shirbori indigo dying workshop at @CowShedCreative with Kate Reid it was great fun trying out all the different combinations of folds, ties and twists. We made loads of samples to try out the different techniques before dying our larger items. I’d made a small project bag and cut a piece of fabric that could be turned into a tote bag or similar. I also made a #ScoutTee (by @Grainlinestudio) all out of an old white linen sheet. I really enjoyed the shibori side of the process and liked how quick the results from the hot indigo dye were (though not such a fan of the aroma). If you like it, make it again.  This @grainlinestudio #scouttee is an homage to one that I made at least 10 years ago -- scroll through to see the original in 2016 (on my back porch) and 2018 (reflected in front of a Richard Serra at SFMOMA). I absolutely loved the brushstroke stripe rayon of the original (Rashida Coleman Hale's Zip print, then for Cotton+Steel), so when it no longer fit, I was sad to only find Zip on quilting cotton. When I saw this swoopy brushstroke rayon on the @stonemountainfabric website, I immediately knew what I wanted to do with it.  The seam finishes are mostly the same: flat felled shoulders and French seamed sides. I didn't have access to an overlocker back in 2015 and hated French seaming an armscye, so the original is a bit frayed. The new version should hold up better long-term in the wash. I made a size 14, based on my current full bust measurement. I shortened the body 3/4", then took an extra little bit at the hem by hemming it at 1/2" instead of 1/4". #ifyoulikeitmakeit #ifyoulikeitmakeitagain #makeitagain #memademay #millennialsewist

Saturday’s #memademay was a velvet @grainlinestudio #scouttee for a 5th birthday party in the sunshine. I made this years ago but have barely worn it since - I don’t know why as I really like it, it’s super comfy and just the right amount of fancy, so I’m glad it’s survived the many wardrobe culls since.

I finally got round to amending this top today. It is a scout tee that was made using a couple of old shirts. Originally I'd used ready made bias tape for the hem to retain the length of the top. The tape shrunk significantly. The new hem was cut from another used shirt. This tape was not cut on the bias because the flexibility wasn't required, and I have a feeling I might have stretched the previous tape when I applied it. This is my second scout tee. The other one was made from an old IKEA curtain. I'm often complimented on both of these tops. Happy new year! I’m feeling really excited for what is to come in 2025. 2024 ended in a wave of exhaustion and after taking some time to rest, recuperate and regroup, I am so ready for new adventures, big work projects, and alllll the sewing I can squeeze in. Today I worked on campus for the first time this year and wore one of my many @grainlinepatterns Scout Tees. I’ve made the pattern loads over the last decade and still reach for it anytime I have a metre of fabric leftover from other projects. I made this one 3-4 years ago and it’s still going strong. I’ve been really enjoying doing small bursts of sewing over my lunch breaks or after work a couple of times a week. Now that we’re in our new house and mostly unpacked I’m also trying to find a new rhythm and set up for my sewing space. I don’t have any sewing resolutions this year, but I would like to sew up lots of the gorgeous fabrics in my stash instead of buying as much fabric this year. Mostly because I’m running out of room to store any more! I have a couple of garments that I’ve finished sewing in the last two months that I’m hoping to photograph soon, and I can’t wait to share them with you. I’ve been having so much fun every time I’ve worn them that I totally forgot to get a piccy. Thanks to Whitney @tomkatstitcherycarmel I've finally sewn up this precious fabric for the sewing challenge #preciousfabric24. Yay 🙌 It has taken me a while to sew this because I wanted to use a TNT pattern without many seams (didn't have one for a while) and an easy pattern to sew since this fabric seemed a bit (read very) challenging to sew. The fabric is a Brittany Nicole silk/cotton voile by Lady McElroy that I got at @fabricdeluxe, my favourite Aussie fabric store, which is sadly closing now. 😞 This fabric is stunning and feels like wearing nothing but it was the opposite of fun to sew. Next time I'll spray starch the living daylights out of it. The pattern is the @grainlinestudio #scouttee using the sleeve expansion pack for the petal sleeve. I made a size 4 with an SBA, raised the neckline by 1cm and lowered the underarm 1cm, then using a mashup of the size 4 and size 6 sleeve to account for this change in the armscye. The room I lecture in on Fridays is delightfully toasty thanks to the heating having been on all week (it’s freezing on a Monday!), which meant I got to wear a short sleeve @grainlinestudio Scout Tee that I made 7-8 years ago. I have always loved this top because the fabric is so vibrant but simple. The top is still going strong and has become beautifully soft from wear. I am hopeful I’ll get many more years of wear out of it. I don’t remember the fabric being particularly expensive, but I have noticed that many of the cheaper fabrics I’ve made garments from only last 1-3 years whereas those I’ve paid a little more from tend to last ages. Frankly Fab in Philly is sewing from her stash this summer and this first pattern is so good she made it three times! Check out the Scout Tee from Grainline Studio. It’s simple, classic, and can be made in so many ways. The green gauze version is fabric I had for 20 years. It’s my new beach top. I started a new project at 8:30 pm last night and had to stop at 11:15 pm, knowing there’d be lots of mistakes if I kept going. I wanted the inside of the garment to have a nice finish so I sewed French seams on the shoulder and side seams. I also used a little bit of Liberty fabric for my bias neckband because the neon pops in it matched the neon slub in my main fabric. There’s an ever so slight wonk in my neckline but I’ve decided to try and live with it because I didn’t notice the issue until I had already graded the seam allowance and that was going to make things difficult to re-align. The lesson here is to check your seam before you grade it, especially if it’s 10pm and you’re tired. I’m really happy with where this is going and I’m excited to finish it up! I’m using the Scout Tee pattern from @grainlinestudio. I purchased this amazing neon slub woven from @freemanscreative a couple weekends ago. I love seeing these two Scout tees from @wild_sky_quilts hanging side by side! Mikka used rayon viscose fabrics that had been sitting in her office for a year - I'm always so impressed when people finally tackle their fabric stash and create something beautiful. The vibrant floral print and that gorgeous coral are both perfect for the relaxed fit of the Scout. I finished my top and I LOVE it. I wore it to work yesterday and felt great in it all day! I’ve made the Scout Tee before and that one is just a bit snug across the bust so I sized up this time and the fit is just perfect. I used the sleeve expansion for the cuffed sleeve. I think the cuff elevates it and the construction was straightforward. Other little details that I’m in love with are the Liberty of London neckline facing, the KATM tag I sewed in and the French seams in the main body (I did not do French seams on the sleeves but did serge them to finish). The gorgeous Neon Neppy fabric is by Robert Kaufman and I purchased it locally at @freemanscreative in Durham. The Pattern is the #scouttee by @grainlinestudio with the cuff sleeve from the Scout Sleeve Variation. The tag is from @kylieandthemachine #memadewardrobe #grainlinestudio

What treat have I got for #fashiononthesofafriday ? A Tunnocks Tea Cake! 😍 Look them up if you don’t know this Scottish classic - biscuit, mallow and chocolate. Husband has been working in Glasgow this week and carefully managed to transport this home for me in his laptop bag! No mean feat alongside several shirts etc (and a laptop!) through airport security and an overhead locker. I haven’t had the heart to tell him I can get boxes of 6 at the supermarket 😬🤣. 29 May 2025. #memademay2025 today was a huge day. I completed my first pair of jeans! @daughterjudypatterns #worshipjeans flare version. I made these right up to add top button, complete belt loops and hem. I decided they were too short, hated the flare, thought the rise was out of whack and abandoned them. Last night finish them. Still a bit short but I like the flare, rise ok, I walked 7km in them today and so comfortable. Made in stretch denim - pattern asks for rigid denim so will lengthen legs and make in non-stretch denim. Paired with @grainlinestudio #scouttee in fabric from @boltofcloth

Some clothes sewing lately! Two #scouttee shirts by @grainlinestudio and one #sauviesundress by @sewhouse7, all made with various rayon viscose fabrics that have been sitting in my office for the last year. For Sauvie, I only had two yards of the awesome swan fabric, which was enough for the short version of the dress when combined with a plain blue lining (which I cut to the full length of the dress since the fabric was a little translucent - I just used the dress template rather than the lining one). I made spaghetti thin ties for the waist using the tutorial on their website. It’s not perfect - I have yet to figure out the secret of getting a non wonky v of the middle of the neck? - but it is less wonky than my first attempt at this dress so I am happy with it nonetheless 🎉

#MeMadeMay2025 Day 29: my first long sleeved shirt! This cotton fabric is really lightweight and I’m curious how much I find myself reaching for this. If not a lot (or if my mistake cutting one sleeve with the pattern upside down gets to me🤷‍♀️), I’ll remove the sleeves all together and finish with bias tape. Still working on easing in a sleeve cap without it getting too wrinkly or puffy. It’s a work in progress. Used French seams for all except around the sleeve cap- is that even possible? If I keep the sleeves I’ll go back in and zig zag around the raw edges inside. @grainlinestudio #scouttee with the long sleeve variation. This adorable hand printed Indian block print fabric is from @loomandstars, a very sweet shop in the Flatiron district. 26 May 2025. #memademay2025 Day 26. Today I managed to find 10 mins to find my way to my favourite selfie mirror. Head to toe me made today. Black @alinadesignco #hamptonjeanjacket in black bull denim from @blackbirdfabrics - quality is incredible and worth the postage to NZ. @grainlinestudio #scouttee - very early make, stretched the neckband and had to add a little fold for modesty - but the seams are Hong Kong seams - must have been prior to owning the overlocker. Skirt is the maxi skirt by @valleythreads_thestitchery - made in a class where I learned (the hard way) about holes that you can make if not careful about what goes near the overlocker knife. I have stuffed up a couple of projects recently so it’s nice to look back and remember the value of not being over critical and that sewing a perfect project or what’s in your head is not always guaranteed.

Me Made May Day 25: today was gorgeously sunny so hubby and I decided to go for a long walk with a decadent lunch stop. We started at the 14 Lock Canal Visitor Centre in Newport and walked 6km into Newport along the Canal before having a delicious lunch at @newport.market. After lunch we visited the Newport museum and learned all about the city’s history including the Romans, Chartists, and the transporter bridge. We then walked back to our car at the 14 Locks Visitor Centre with a pit stop for a pint at a pub halfway. It was such a nice day. Despite it being me made May, I spent most of it in RTW exercise clothes, but after a hot shower this afternoon I changed into one of my many Scout tees from @grainlinestudio (this one was made 4 or so years ago) and have been relaxing on the couch ever since! I’ve been rather work oriented for the last few weeks as I’ve tried to squeeze in every bit of summer research time I can before students return to campus at the end of this month. As a result I’ve been rather forgetful when it comes to sharing my outfits. Earlier this week for a day of phd student supervision and working on a book chapter I wore a @grainlinestudio Scout tee that I made many many years ago (I think 8?) before I moved to the UK. You’ve seen this one before if you’ve been following me for a while as it gets worn pretty regularly. It’s the absolute perfect shade of green as far as I am concerned. I love it. I’ve seen a lot of people getting their colours analysed lately and I’ve been simultaneously fascinated and confused by the whole process. I wear quite a lot of colours… and there are only a small number I avoid (pastels and white)… so the idea of avoiding some because someone told me they didn’t suit me feels a bit weird. Equally it seems kinda cool to find the magical answer to which colours make you superwoman… for now I think I’ll continue to wear the rainbow (minus the colours I’m likely to stain terribly when eating spaghetti)! January Sewing Club : January is my 🥳 birthday month and I wanted to do a fun project so I made @grainlinestudio Scout Tee 👕 for a second time. I'm slowly making my way through the "Sleeve Variations" pack. Last time I made the petal sleeve and this time I made the short sleeve. As far as the fabric goes I'm still avoiding floral prints and I found this purple print with 🛋️ chairs,🌱 plants and coffee ☕ pots on it. It's called "Peaceful ✌️ Waking", I thought this was the perfect print to kick off the year! I blended a size 4 (bust) to size 6 ( hip) and the fit is excellent ✨. Today, this 17th day of #memademay2021 I celebrate the completion of my first #scouttee ! Naturally my first foray into this lovely basic was a fabric in the gray family, (because I literally have more gray then anything else in my wadrobe). <--- I have no idea why, except that yellow is my favorite color and gray seems to go well with it..... So why make another gray thing you ask? I wanted to guarantee I would reach for it again and again when getting dressed. Also, if I somehow managed to mess it up it wouldn't leave anything lacking in my closet. Spoiler: I did not mess it up. I took my time. I was careful around the curves and hey! How cute are those cap sleeves? I made a size 14 and I find the amount of ease just right (for my taste) in this chambray fabric. Curious to see how other fabrics will lay and if I'll have to go up or down any in size. For reference I'm B:40, W:34, H:43 Also!! ✨ The Summer Collection ✨⁣ Two patterns, three fabrics, nine* looks⁣ *realistically six because I don't mix and match the stripes 🙃 ⁣ ⁣ Happy first day of autumn, as good a time as any to talk about the clothes I made in July and wore for most of August and September!!⁣ ⁣ ⁣ The pants are self-drafted based on a pair of rtw Striped Party Pants. They're great because a) elastic waistband b) great loose fit for summer and c) nice deep pockets. The order I made these was white linen, colourful stripe polyester, black linen, meaning my black ensemble is the best in terms of fit. There wasn't quite enough room for the big ol' caboose in my first two iterations of the pant: it's okay for the white pair, but it was a pain to get the coloured stripes on and off, so I had to add a side invisible zip. 👖 ⁣ ⁣ The shirt is a #scouttee. I'd had some issues fitting the pattern before, but I cut a straight size four (I think) and it was fine. Obviously the second two iterations are tank versions. I scooped out the armhole about an inch, and also took in the side seam a bit. I also raised the neckline because I didn't like how low and wide it was on the white striped linen one. 👕 ⁣ ⁣ I've been wearing the black pants ALL THE TIME. comfy, light, drapey , swishy, etc etc and all around easy to wear. Today’s outfit is an old favourite from 2016 - it’s a @grainlinestudio Scout tee paired with Rtw jeans. I’m really like the scout pattern - if you’ve been following me for a while now you’ll have noticed that I have quite a number in rotation. The versions made in cotton sateen are my favourite ones to wear to work, whereas the lighter cotton fabric versions are great for hot days and seem to pair with almost any skirt or pair of pants I own. I’ve found them all to be incredibly durable too - over the years I’ve only retired one and it was because the fabric faded really badly, rather than it wearing out. I’ve been mulling over the age old debate of prints vs solid fabrics lately and I’ve concluded I mostly like prints. I enjoy the colours and the fun fabrics that work for different occasions. I do however struggle with pairing prints together as I’m never sure if things go or not. @jasmine.needle has been impressing me lately with how coordinated in colour and style her makes are - she has such an eye for colour particularly and mixing prints with bright plain fabrics. I lean a bit too heavily on navy and black basics, but today I’ve really enjoyed wearing my electric blue jeans. Perhaps it’s time to try some bolder colour and print combos! Happy Friday! The weather is finally turning cooler and the busyness of the first few weeks of semester has calmed down. I’m looking forward to fewer days of back to back meetings, and the chance to get into doing some research (I’m very lucky to get to research cool stuff as a part of my job when I’m not in meetings or teaching!). Sewing has taken a bit of a back seat in the last week so I’m hoping to find more time to let my creative juices flow next week. Today I wore another one of my trusty @grainlinestudio Scout tees with some black Rtw jeans. I made this top 6-7 years ago and it’s still just as good as when I first made it - I’m always so impressed with how durable and wearable hand made garments are compared to RTW garments. I recently had a wardrobe malfunction while out And had to buy a dress to wear for the rest of the day. By the time I took the dress off 6 hours after buying it, it had already become worn where my handbag rubbed against it. Day 3 of me made May was a hectic one but I wore another of my many @grainlinestudio Scout tees with some RTW pants and I survived alllll the meetings that seemingly got scheduled today and made it to the gym after work too! I really like the idea of having a work uniform sometimes - 1-2 top patterns that I can make up in lots of different fabrics. It just seems so practical and would reduce decision fatigue in the mornings when I’m trying to decide what to wear before work. I’m on a roll this week posting some of my latest makes. I’ve had quite a few projects on the go over the last few months and just not had the time (or warm enough weather tbh) to share them! So I’m quite happy that the weather is warming up now. Todays top was actually made from some fabric leftover from another yet to be sewn project that didn’t need as much fabric as anticipated. This is a tried and true pattern that I’ve made dozens of versions of. It is of course the @grainlinestudio Scout Tee. I think I’ll do a FBA in my next version to reduce the drag lines I’m getting on this one, but I’m really happy with how it turned out. I think it’ll be cute with shorts in the summer but is working well with jeans for now! In all its wrinkled glory, here's a #scouttee that I lengthened into a dress. It definitely walks the line between day dress and nightgown, but I think with the addition of the tie it becomes a bit more fashionable.⁣ ⁣ (realistically though, it is very comfortable sans tie when it's sweltering out and I don't want anything touching my body)⁣ ⁣ I simply added the length I wanted to the scout tee pattern and followed the flare of the side seams to meet. Other than that, no alterations to the pattern. If I make another dress, I might add bust or waist darts for just a bit more shaping and so I look less like I'm wearing a hospital gown. Here are a few of my me made outfits that I’ve been wearing to work over the last week. I wore my @tillybuttons Stevie dress (worn backwards of course), a @grainlinestudio Scout Tee, and a @fibremood Mindy dress. The Scout tee and Mindy dress were both made over the summer and turned out really well. The Stevie dress is from 6 or so years ago and is a firm favourite. I’ve been enjoying wearing all three of these outfits as the weather has been cooling off because they’re so easy to layer and pair with tights and a cardi. I also really like wearing dresses because I don’t need to think as hard about coordinating tops and bottoms, or colours/patterns. Today was a good day! I was back on campus after a week working from home with covid and it felt good to get dressed and go somewhere. I had a day filled with meetings about research mostly but I managed to squeeze in lunch with some colleagues at Cardiff Market which was lovely. Today, this 17th day of #memademay2021 I celebrate the completion of my first #scouttee ! Naturally my first foray into this lovely basic was a fabric in the gray family, (because I literally have more gray then anything else in my wadrobe). <--- I have no idea why, except that yellow is my favorite color and gray seems to go well with it..... So why make another gray thing you ask? I wanted to guarantee I would reach for it again and again when getting dressed. Also, if I somehow managed to mess it up it wouldn't leave anything lacking in my closet. Spoiler: I did not mess it up. I took my time. I was careful around the curves and hey! How cute are those cap sleeves? I made a size 14 and I find the amount of ease just right (for my taste) in this chambray fabric. I'm in a Pattern Emporium 'Songbird' Duster Jacket infatuation at the moment. I've tried the long version and the cover up version and now I am trying the cropped version and I think this is my favourite length. January Sewing Club : January is my 🥳 birthday month and I wanted to do a fun project so I made @grainlinestudio Scout Tee 👕 for a second time. I'm slowly making my way through the "Sleeve Variations" pack. Last time I made the petal sleeve and this time I made the short sleeve. As far as the fabric goes I'm still avoiding floral prints and I found this purple print with 🛋️ chairs,🌱 plants and coffee ☕ pots on it. It's called "Peaceful ✌️ Waking", I thought this was the perfect print to kick off the year! I blended a size 4 (bust) to size 6 ( hip) and the fit is excellent ✨. In all its wrinkled glory, here's a #scouttee that I lengthened into a dress. It definitely walks the line between day dress and nightgown, but I think with the addition of the tie it becomes a bit more fashionable.⁣ ⁣ (realistically though, it is very comfortable sans tie when it's sweltering out and I don't want anything touching my body)⁣ ⁣ I simply added the length I wanted to the scout tee pattern and followed the flare of the side seams to meet. Other than that, no alterations to the pattern. If I make another dress, I might add bust or waist darts for just a bit more shaping and so I look less like I'm wearing a hospital gown. ✨ The Summer Collection ✨⁣ Two patterns, three fabrics, nine* looks⁣ *realistically six because I don't mix and match the stripes 🙃 ⁣ ⁣ Happy first day of autumn, as good a time as any to talk about the clothes I made in July and wore for most of August and September!!⁣ ⁣ ⁣ The pants are self-drafted based on a pair of rtw Striped Party Pants. They're great because a) elastic waistband b) great loose fit for summer and c) nice deep pockets. The order I made these was white linen, colourful stripe polyester, black linen, meaning my black ensemble is the best in terms of fit. There wasn't quite enough room for the big ol' caboose in my first two iterations of the pant: it's okay for the white pair, but it was a pain to get the coloured stripes on and off, so I had to add a side invisible zip. 👖 ⁣ ⁣ The shirt is a #scouttee. I'd had some issues fitting the pattern before, but I cut a straight size four (I think) and it was fine. Obviously the second two iterations are tank versions. I scooped out the armhole about an inch, and also took in the side seam a bit. I also raised the neckline because I didn't like how low and wide it was on the white striped linen one. 👕 ⁣ ⁣ I've been wearing the black pants ALL THE TIME. comfy, light, drapey , swishy, etc etc and all around easy to wear. Here are a few of my me made outfits that I’ve been wearing to work over the last week. I wore my @tillybuttons Stevie dress (worn backwards of course), a @grainlinestudio Scout Tee, and a @fibremood Mindy dress. The Scout tee and Mindy dress were both made over the summer and turned out really well. The Stevie dress is from 6 or so years ago and is a firm favourite. I’ve been enjoying wearing all three of these outfits as the weather has been cooling off because they’re so easy to layer and pair with tights and a cardi. I also really like wearing dresses because I don’t need to think as hard about coordinating tops and bottoms, or colours/patterns. Me Made May Day 17: it was a glorious day here in Cardiff and it spent most of it indoors marking assignments. I went for a walk at lunchtime though and enjoyed every second of it. I made the top roughly 6 years ago and the skirt 3-4 years ago. I really like the skirt - the A line shape works so well with my me made tops and the colour is super versatile too. Happy Friday! The weather is finally turning cooler and the busyness of the first few weeks of semester has calmed down. I’m looking forward to fewer days of back to back meetings, and the chance to get into doing some research (I’m very lucky to get to research cool stuff as a part of my job when I’m not in meetings or teaching!). Sewing has taken a bit of a back seat in the last week so I’m hoping to find more time to let my creative juices flow next week. Today I wore another one of my trusty @grainlinestudio Scout tees with some black Rtw jeans. I made this top 6-7 years ago and it’s still just as good as when I first made it - I’m always so impressed with how durable and wearable hand made garments are compared to RTW garments. I recently had a wardrobe malfunction while out And had to buy a dress to wear for the rest of the day. Day 3 of me made May was a hectic one but I wore another of my many @grainlinestudio Scout tees with some RTW pants and I survived alllll the meetings that seemingly got scheduled today and made it to the gym after work too! I really like the idea of having a work uniform sometimes - 1-2 top patterns that I can make up in lots of different fabrics. It just seems so practical and would reduce decision fatigue in the mornings when I’m trying to decide what to wear before work. I had been on the hunt for a tee using lightweight wovens and came across the @grainlinestudio Scout tee. This is the first one I made, but I've since made another 2! Safe to say I love this pattern! I used rayon challis from @the.styled.magnolia for this one!

Bought the #grainlinescouttee pattern and fabric for it in summer 2023. Didn’t get around to cutting the fabric pieces and sewing it until late yesterday afternoon during which time I was happily obsessed! What gratification there is in sewing a garment on my 1972 #singergenie, ironing seams, pinning pieces, the whole shebang. Tonight after a full day in Philly in attempt to register voters for #fieldteam6 (Go Kamala!) I got right back to the machine and sewed sleeves and hem. Voila! Me Made May Day 31: we made it!!! On the last day of May I wore yet another Scout tee from @grainlinestudio that I made 5 years ago. This month has reiterated to me how much I love my me made wardrobe but has also made me realise that I’ve been holding onto quite a lot of garments that no longer fit. Over the month I’ve filled a bag ready to be passed on to those who will get more use out of the garments than I currently am. It feels quite mixed sending them on though as each piece has a story and a memory about the fabric, the time spent sewing it, or the places I wore it. I’m also rather pleased that my drawers are closing without any shoving necessary now! My second projector sewing project was the #seamworknash leggings. When the pattern was released I thought no way - just to realize six months later that the flares are actually fun🤩 I can imagine so many ways to style them, and also the Nash in many other colors. Thanks to Whitney @tomkatstitcherycarmel I've finally sewn up this precious fabric for the sewing challenge #preciousfabric24. Yay 🙌 It has taken me a while to sew this because I wanted to use a TNT pattern without many seams (didn't have one for a while) and an easy pattern to sew since this fabric seemed a bit (read very) challenging to sew. The fabric is a Brittany Nicole silk/cotton voile by Lady McElroy that I got at @fabricdeluxe, my favourite Aussie fabric store, which is sadly closing now. 😞 This fabric is stunning and feels like wearing nothing but it was the opposite of fun to sew. Next time I'll spray starch the living daylights out of it. The pattern is the @grainlinestudio #scouttee using the sleeve expansion pack for the petal sleeve. I made a size 4 with an SBA, raised the neckline by 1cm and lowered the underarm 1cm, then using a mashup of the size 4 and size 6 sleeve to account for this change in the armscye. Hello! I’ve been super busy lately with work (feeling rather impressed with myself and what I can achieve when I set my mind to it!) and despite taking outfit photos most days, I haven’t posted any of them! Here are a couple from the last week - I wore one of my many @grainlinestudio Scout tees today (I made this one 5 years ago), a few days ago I wore a @madebyrae Trillium dress (made 7 years ago), and a @tillybuttons Bettine dress (made 6 years ago). The room I lecture in on Fridays is delightfully toasty thanks to the heating having been on all week (it’s freezing on a Monday!), which meant I got to wear a short sleeve @grainlinestudio Scout Tee that I made 7-8 years ago. I have always loved this top because the fabric is so vibrant but simple. The top is still going strong and has become beautifully soft from wear. I am hopeful I’ll get many more years of wear out of it. I don’t remember the fabric being particularly expensive, but I have noticed that many of the cheaper fabrics I’ve made garments from only last 1-3 years whereas those I’ve paid a little more from tend to last ages. The weather over here is great for sewing! I want to make some tops and blouses and started with this #GrainlineScoutTee from this scrap of viscose. I’m really liking the fit on this. I made the pattern as is. This is a size 16 as per my current measurements. I have the sleeve expansion and might try some of those. I used French seams throughout the whole garment and rolled hems. Pattern is from @grainlinestudio and fabric is from @artgalleryfabrics bought from fabric.com (😭, though it’s been good for my buying habits that that’s no longer available to me).

Today was a good day! I was back on campus after a week working from home with covid and it felt good to get dressed and go somewhere. I had a day filled with meetings about research mostly but I managed to squeeze in lunch with some colleagues at Cardiff Market which was lovely. Mainly there are children’s clothes from @ottobredesign magazines and SO many #grainlinescouttee The oldest photos were from 4th April 2013 when I entered the @tessutifabrics Gridlock fabric competition. This is my first Grainline Studio Scout Tee. I made it in less than a metre of Lady Mcelroy Cotton Lawn in a lovely floral print. French seamed throughout and finished while lurking in a sewing weekender chat room. I made size 14 shoulders, size 16 bust, size 18 hips. I welcome constructive feedback as although I'm happy with it, there are drag lines and I'm not sure how to improve my next version. Happy new year! I’m feeling really excited for what is to come in 2025. 2024 ended in a wave of exhaustion and after taking some time to rest, recuperate and regroup, I am so ready for new adventures, big work projects, and alllll the sewing I can squeeze in. Today I worked on campus for the first time this year and wore one of my many @grainlinepatterns Scout Tees. I’ve made the pattern loads over the last decade and still reach for it anytime I have a metre of fabric leftover from other projects. I made this one 3-4 years ago and it’s still going strong. I’ve been really enjoying doing small bursts of sewing over my lunch breaks or after work a couple of times a week. Now that we’re in our new house and mostly unpacked I’m also trying to find a new rhythm and set up for my sewing space. I don’t have any sewing resolutions this year, but I would like to sew up lots of the gorgeous fabrics in my stash instead of buying as much fabric this year. Mostly because I’m running out of room to store any more! I have a couple of garments that I’ve finished sewing in the last two months that I’m hoping to photograph soon, and I can’t wait to share them with you. I’ve been having so much fun every time I’ve worn them that I totally forgot to get a piccy. I’ve been rather work oriented for the last few weeks as I’ve tried to squeeze in every bit of summer research time I can before students return to campus at the end of this month. As a result I’ve been rather forgetful when it comes to sharing my outfits. Earlier this week for a day of phd student supervision and working on a book chapter I wore a @grainlinestudio Scout tee that I made many many years ago (I think 8?) before I moved to the UK. You’ve seen this one before if you’ve been following me for a while as it gets worn pretty regularly. It’s the absolute perfect shade of green as far as I am concerned. I love it. I’ve seen a lot of people getting their colours analysed lately and I’ve been simultaneously fascinated and confused by the whole process. I wear quite a lot of colours… and there are only a small number I avoid (pastels and white)… so the idea of avoiding some because someone told me they didn’t suit me feels a bit weird. Equally it seems kinda cool to find the magical answer to which colours make you superwoman… for now I think I’ll continue to wear the rainbow (minus the colours I’m likely to stain terribly when eating spaghetti)! Me Made May Day 25: today was gorgeously sunny so hubby and I decided to go for a long walk with a decadent lunch stop. We started at the 14 Lock Canal Visitor Centre in Newport and walked 6km into Newport along the Canal before having a delicious lunch at @newport.market. After lunch we visited the Newport museum and learned all about the city’s history including the Romans, Chartists, and the transporter bridge. We then walked back to our car at the 14 Locks Visitor Centre with a pit stop for a pint at a pub halfway. It was such a nice day. Despite it being me made May, I spent most of it in RTW exercise clothes, but after a hot shower this afternoon I changed into one of my many Scout tees from @grainlinestudio (this one was made 4 or so years ago) and have been relaxing on the couch ever since! Today’s outfit is an old favourite from 2016 - it’s a @grainlinestudio Scout tee paired with Rtw jeans. I’m really like the scout pattern - if you’ve been following me for a while now you’ll have noticed that I have quite a number in rotation. The versions made in cotton sateen are my favourite ones to wear to work, whereas the lighter cotton fabric versions are great for hot days and seem to pair with almost any skirt or pair of pants I own. I’ve found them all to be incredibly durable too - over the years I’ve only retired one and it was because the fabric faded really badly, rather than it wearing out. I’ve been mulling over the age old debate of prints vs solid fabrics lately and I’ve concluded I mostly like prints. I enjoy the colours and the fun fabrics that work for different occasions. I do however struggle with pairing prints together as I’m never sure if things go or not. @jasmine.needle has been impressing me lately with how coordinated in colour and style her makes are - she has such an eye for colour particularly and mixing prints with bright plain fabrics. I lean a bit too heavily on navy and black basics, but today I’ve really enjoyed wearing my electric blue jeans. Perhaps it’s time to try some bolder colour and print combos! I’m on a roll this week posting some of my latest makes. I’ve had quite a few projects on the go over the last few months and just not had the time (or warm enough weather tbh) to share them! So I’m quite happy that the weather is warming up now. Todays top was actually made from some fabric leftover from another yet to be sewn project that didn’t need as much fabric as anticipated. This is a tried and true pattern that I’ve made dozens of versions of. It is of course the @grainlinestudio Scout Tee. I think I’ll do a FBA in my next version to reduce the drag lines I’m getting on this one, but I’m really happy with how it turned out. I think it’ll be cute with shorts in the summer but is working well with jeans for now! I love how vibrant the fabric is - it was the end of the roll and I was happy to get as much of it as I did from @butterfly_fabrics.
