I LOVE totes in bright colors and random designs—almost all of my patterns are made with this in mind. Years since it was released, I’m still really into this small size of the #stowebag by @grainlinestudio, this time using one of my @spoonflower fabrics, Pink Rabbits in Floral Garden printed on lightweight cotton twill! I use like an extra set of hands for random kid stuff, perfect for holding a couple water bottles and a snack. Quick sew, especially if you leave off the pockets like I did here 🤗 Hopefully will make a few more in the next couple weeks, ones where I will do a much better job on the binding than whatever happened here 🙈

With all the knitting going on around here, I need more project bags obviously (obviously?!). This is the @grainlinestudio / @fringesupplyco #stowebag in @rubystarsociety canvas from @stylemakerfabrics . I made the size small, which is comparable in size to the Field Bag but less structured. I used leftover bias tape I had made for another project. Unfortunately I misread the bias binding instructions and did a bias facing for the outside handles - I didn't notice until I got confused on the last pattern step and looked up the sewalong. The sewalong sample uses a contrast binding fabric, so it's much easier to see how it's put together. Oh well - I'm definitely not going to unpick it. I chose to finish the interior exposed seams with bias binding for durability, but it adds a lot of bulk - when I make this again I think I may try a serged seam instead. This bag is basically constructed like a plastic grocery bag with interior pockets for structure. It's a similar shape to my favorite tiny project bag. The size is right for a project that's a couple of skeins - a large shawl or up to midway through a sweater project. Handmade project bag with matching zippered pouch. 🧵 I forgot to share this make before, but I made this as a holiday gift for my sister. It's the large version of the Stowe Bag from Grainline Studio. I made it in a cotton woven, which isn't super structured, but I figured the lightness of it would be good for travel. I love how functional the pockets are. It has handmade bias tape (one of my fave uses for scrap fabric) and a couple of my cotton labels. I also drafted a half moon zippered pouch to match. I use the smaller version of this pattern for my travel project bag all the time which is perfect for smaller knit and embroidery projects. This make gave me the chance to try the larger size out and I definitely want one for myself to hold sweater projects. Do you have a favorite project bag? What's your favorite travel project? 🍅 Introducing my new tomato project / lunch bag! 🍅 This @grainlinestudio Stowe Bag is my first sewing project completed in my new craft room and probably (if I’m being realistic) my last sewing FO of 2024. The fabric is a Sevenberry cotton/linen blend from @evanstonstitchworks. I fell for the fabric as soon as I saw it during my last visit to Chicago, and knew it would make a perfect Stowe bag. I sewed the small size including the project bag pockets for maximum versatility, but I’m intending to use this mostly as a work lunch bag. One of my fave features is how easily can be flattened, folded, and packed away when it’s empty. Such a clever design! I was listening to a lot of Joni Mitchell (whose music always reminds me of my late mom) while sewing this bag yesterday, so it’s fitting that today’s tomato-inspired outfit for the bag’s first outing is reminiscent of how my mom dressed in the ‘90s.
