As the #SewColourBlocking #SewColorBlocking challenge month nears its end the parade of creativity continues unabated. Possibly my final post from London . I was #So50Reworn in my Farrow dress . I felt a little like 2018 Judith in this ...much shorter than I wear now, not a fabric I would choose now. Past me would not want to have worn something like this, something that I had moved on from, but new me is happy I did...look at the smile and the swagger. I may be approaching 30 wears for this now. Swipe to see an early wear... when I attended Frocktails in Edinburgh in 2019 ...and spot some familiar faces. This was made from a synthetic velvet so it is going to last and last and needs to be worn and worn. My suitcase was packed with memades . I'd made a rough list of what I was going to take but whilst packing kept adding more as I spotted them looking forlorn in my wardrobe . I wore most of them but only got photos of a few . I am currently battling a bus replacement service to get to #sewfizzteacated24. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone 😊 This is the dress I have made for the occasion but it isn't its first wear and the photo is not today (I forgot to take one 😅). It's the @grainlinestudio #FarrowDress in a viscose twill. I adore the cut of the dress. I have worn it a few times since making. I made the straight 18 in the larger block and omitted the pockets due to the drape of the fabric. Next time I'll do a slight forward shoulder adjustment. Photo was taken on Brighton prom last month.

I may have taken #secretpyjamas too far, or is it #secretnightie. I wanted a cosy winter dress so I sewed this Farrow dress out of flannelette. And it really is so cosy 🥰 The flannelette was so narrow that I guess it was intended for cot blankets or baby pj's, but it was 60% off at spotlight so I just bought 5 metres 🤭 Lucky I did because some of the pattern pieces were too wide to be cut on the fold. This is my third Farrow and the first with long sleeves, they are a nice cut without being too tight but next time I might lengthen them a bit. I removed a bit of width from the back seam originally because I found my first one too tent-like, however in the years since making it I've had the thought that I wouldn't mind a bit more room round the middle so I added that back in to this version. Now I like the volume and it's especially good for under-layering. Another dress to find a coathanger for and it will need to be a sturdy one! This is my finished #farrowdress, my second @grainlinestudio pattern. I wanted to use a heavy and solid colour fabric since it was an a-line dress with a shorter hem at the front than the back so I didn't want to expose the underside of a printed fabric. I had visions of making this fairly structural and so I found a beautiful Azure blue drill cotton at @drapersfabrics. It was similar to denim or canvas and I did have regrets as I was sewing it, particularly when it came to the armhole and neckline facings which were meant to be tacked by hand and were just too thick and heavy to stay in place. Maybe I shouldn't have bothered with interfacing, I don't really know.. I ended up stitching a line 2cm in for all the facings so they would stay put. I love the handy (and deep) hidden pockets at the front on the diagonals and think I will do this pattern again with a mid-weight linen. This was a great pattern and a quick sew. I am glad I chose the size with minimal ease too, it fit well around my shoulders. I'm looking forward to wearing this one!

I said it’s the last dress in a while and here I am, posting yet another green dress. I made this green linen farrow dress 3 years ago, and it has been on super heavy rotation in my workwear wardrobe. Unfortunately, I’ve had to finish the edges three times. I did it with a regular zigzag stitch first time, serged it when I got my serger and now even the serger threads are coming off (see facing edges). I finished up the previous green a line dress, and had extra bias bindings left. So I did my first attempt at a Hong Kong seam finish. Honestly, it would be marvellous if not for the rest of the fraying seams still evident all around. But I got the worst of the fraying (Center front and pockets), and I’ll classify this as a work in progress while I cut more bias tape. Posting this pic here for records. I'm home and unpacked from a fantastic long weekend in London with so many highlights so I'll just mention the one here...and that's @londonfrocktails of course. You do you.  I've been feeling under pressure to make something new for #Frocktails. I'm attending two events in the next few weeks   @ScottishFrocktails in Glasgow and @londonfrocktails.   The pressure doesn't come from the organisers or anyone else. It comes from myself when I see and think about all the fabulous outfits being hinted at and created.  I had decided a while ago that I would wear something I already own.... and then I started to feel twitchy - am I letting the side down? do I want a ta-dah moment?... and I've had a few ideas and thoughts and plans. Some people love to make statement dresses and pieces for special events...Frocktails, weddings, birthday parties,  holidays and I enjoy seeing these splendid creations. I've always preferred sewing for my every day wardrobe, garments that will be worn on repeat....not all of which have to be basics of course.  In previous Frocktails I've only once made something new for the occasion, 2022 #EdinburghFrocktails, and I don't think I've worn it again since. Since it first came out I've adored the #damseldress by @roberts.wood and dreamedaboit making it for the forthcoming Frocktails season.  I wanted to make it in black or very dark brown.  Having signed up to @@tiffdarke #ruleoffive meant I could not buy new fabric for it . I decided I could wear my #MMMathildeSkirt and make the top from the leftovers.  Ordered the #damseltop pattern.  Found my remnant... and discovered I only have a small piece 20cm x 40cm. Even I can't piece it out of something that small! Wondered if I could get away with sneakily,  secretly,   ordering a metre of the fabric,  which is still in stock at @merchantandmills ...but I can't allow it. Plus I'd need to order many metres of elastic. Another idea was making a #phenshirt out of a floaty viscose scarf imprinted with an old map of Edinburgh that i bought a year ago.  This may still happen at some point..but not in time for Frocktails.  So..I raided my wardrobe. Farrow Dress Diese schöne alte Baumwollwebware ist bestimmt schon über fünfzig Jahre alt. Der Stoff ist etwas derber, Leinen ähnlich. Die Stoffbreite beträgt 81 cm. Das Kleid sah ich bei #noodlehead531 und es gefiehl mir sofort. Bei den Amerikanischen Größen war ich mir unsicher. Mein Problem, wenns oben passt ist unten kein reinkommen. Mit der A- Linie sitzt an der Schulter alles perfekt. Farrow Dress ist so weit ausgestellt, da ist noch gut Platz am Popo. Ich habe die Größe 10 als Probeteil genäht. I met the challenge, kept working through until midnight, (must be genetic @jogordon76) and followed the instructions and blog tutorials for this fun #farrowdress. Done in R. Kaufman linen, #robertkaufmanfabrics and yes, it wrinkles. 😃Dig the pockets, and the amazing way they are assembled...they blew my mind. I could've stepped down a size, or more, but didn't know what I was going to encounter. I may try to pull in my seams if I remake this one. Matching the angles was fun. The skirt is designed to be longer in back. My two-toned was inspired by another clever Instagramer. Still need my closure for back neck opening. Trust the pattern instructions. They may seem zany on the pockets, but read the sew along tutorial. Way to go #grainlinestudio for another fun pattern. #grainlinestudiofarrowdress #grainlinefarrow I did reinforce the pockets on either side with bar tacking. I enjoyed using a contrasting aqua thread for finishing seams and hem. I did shrink it a bit on the next wash, which serendipitously was a good thing. Now if fits me really well. I decided after that washing that my edges were fraying inside so I turned under 1/4 inch at the neckline and armholes and sewed them down with a top stitch in matching thread, and tacked them also at the seam points. #neenersews

Farrow Dress Diese schöne alte Baumwollwebware ist bestimmt schon über fünfzig Jahre alt. Der Stoff ist etwas derber, Leinen ähnlich. Die Stoffbreite beträgt 81 cm. Das Kleid sah ich bei #noodlehead531 und es gefiehl mir sofort. Bei den Amerikanischen Größen war ich mir unsicher. Mein Problem, wenns oben passt ist unten kein reinkommen. Mit der A- Linie sitzt an der Schulter alles perfekt. Farrow Dress ist so weit ausgestellt, da ist noch gut Platz am Popo. Ich habe die Größe 10 als Probeteil genäht. Habe mich nach meinem Brustumfang gerichtet. Old cotton fabric. 50 years old. Sewn as a sample in size 10. For the longest time I couldn’t decide what to make with it, but am glad it became a winter dress in the end.
