G R A I N L I N E W E E K E N D Finished up these two pieces this weekend. I love both of them and think with just a couple of tweaks, I will have some #tnt staples. . . ✨Top is the #hadleytop in the most wonderful silk noil from @stonemountainfabric . . . ✨I made a straight size 4 without any mods. I ended up cutting the facing in half around the arms and think I will make the armscy a little deeper next time. I like more movement around my arms. . . ✨Shorts are the #maritimeshorts and believe this is a cotton linen blend but could be wrong as I have had it for a long time. Picked it up at @fancytigercrafts . . . ✨I made a size 6 and added two inches to the length but made a wide bottom hem so probably only added an extra inch in the end. I had to take them in 1/2” on each side and am glad I did, they fit much better that way. 🐌Happy Sew Slow September Week 2! After tidying and organizing in my room I focused my time on a pattern that had been sitting in my stash for over a year. This is such a simple skirt pattern but I still wanted to take time to make a toile and make sure the fit was just right. I love the pattern so much I made two skirts. It was a very fast and simple sew for me. (Each skirt was finished in under two hours) This skirt is made from a thifted table linen that I hand dyed over the summer. I scoured, mordanted and dyed it with cutch extract from @maiwa_naturaldyes I’m so happy with the color results! I also took time to document the process of getting a just right fit! I’ve done a little bit of #selflesssewing recently, and this set was a birthday present for my beautiful friend @aliceinwaterland, modelling it fabulously too! Me made May Day 19 … Let’s be real, I hate wearing hard pants especially on the weekend. This tank I made from the Hadley Top pattern by @grainlinestudio is perfect for lounging and wearing with leggings! Bonus timelapse at the end of me re threading and cleaning my serger. The fabric is a rayon crepe from @atelierbrunette I’ve been too scared to cut into for awhile. I’m still not that great at sewing rayon and other light unstable fabrics, but I tried using a walking foot for this one which helped a lot!

My Blair Skirt is finished! I haven’t got any proper cute pictures of it yet but I’ve thrown in some quick pictures at the end. I’ve found that this skirts sits above my hip on my low waist. It’s not high waisted. If I wanted it high waisted I’d have to grade down further or refit the skirt. I haven’t worn anything that sits this low in years so it will take a moment for me to get used to it. In terms of the sewing, the only thing I did differently was to sew the front side of the button plackets first, and then stitch the back sides of them. I did the same for the waistband, sewing the main side first and then sewing the lining by doing a “stitch in the ditch.” I found it easier and neater to do it that way. The fabric was really easy to sew. It’s not very thick so my machine happily sewed through all of the layers. I used the Dusky Pink corduroy from @sistermintaka In terms of styling, I don’t have anything to go with it yet. I want this to be more of a hot skirt than a cute skirt. I’m picturing it with some soft silk tops. I’ve tried it with a few things from my wardrobe so I can get a sense of what shapes work best. I feel like an adorable dork when I wear it with a cotton lawn Gilbert top. It’s cute but it’s not the look I’m going for. The Camille Top (with the bows) doesn’t look great in the cotton lawn, as it sticks out too much. I do like the low neckline though. Maybe I could try it in a silk fabric with some elastic in the sleeves and slightly lengthening the bodice so I could tuck it in. The third style would be something low and more fitted, like the #SaguaroSet top, or something similar. I’d love some suggestions! The last picture is it just with a T-shirt. I was wearing that under my jumper today. It wasn’t a style choice, but I just wanted to post that, because you can see the finished belt on that picture! Please send me your favourite top patterns. When @blackbirdfabrics had their remnants sale I picked up a few new to me fabrics to try. I made this #hadleytop by @grainlinestudio out of linen viscose noil in the Wisteria colour. The fabric is lovely, lots of drape and texture. For the pattern, I would probably size down next time, and make the arm holes deeper. Just finished transforming my wrap dress into a Hadley top in this gorgeous Merchant and Mills linen! ✂️ The wrap dress never felt quite right, so I took it apart and used my tried-and-true Hadley pattern instead. I lowered the armholes by 2 inches, and reshaped the hem to curve up at the hips and not dip as low in the back. I even reused some of the bias binding for the arms. It's been hard to find time to sew with a baby who gets up very early, and takes short naps, and a big kid who goes to sleep late. But a seam here + a seam there over a few weeks = the comfiest, coziest clown pants of my dreams. These are #arthurpants from @sewliberated in a beautiful lightweight corduroy from @fiber_feels. This is the @grainlinestudio #hadleytop in a beautiful sheer embroidered fabric from @guthrieghani … I followed Lauren’s suggestions and didn’t prewash, and used French seams throughout. This is totally possible in an armscye seam, just needs lots of pins - this fabric is very straightforward to ease into a curve when cut on the bias 😍. I used the scallop edge for the hem but kept the sleeves as a simple double-fold-and-edgestitch. The neckline is finished with black cotton pre-made bias tape that I had handy - a satin one would have worked too. The pattern works well with this fabric, with the facings replaced with finishes as above, and the centre bodice seams removed (fold back seam allowance and cut one on the fold) as it’s a simple shape. Impromptu photoshoot with my girls because, well, look at that beautiful sunset! I’m starting to take out garments that I haven’t worn in a good while. Just cleaning up my wardrobe to see if I love it enough to keep it. So I wore this to the park this weekend and decided she’s a keeper. This is the Hadleytop that I made over a year ago. I love the seam Along the front and the lower back hem. Lots of potential for color blocking too! And I’d say my girls did pretty good considering this is the first time I had them take pics like this. It was nearly impossible to get them to look at the camera. I think they prefer their profile shots instead. Me too! Anyone else feel awkward looking directly at the camera? I'm super happy with how that turned out, no more armhole facings flopping out! I took some outside pictures too, since the palo verde are blooming. Finally getting some sewing done, working on a #grainlinehadley in a gorgeous chartreuse linen and trying out an all in one facing. Decided to use some leftover ghastlies fabric to avoid too much bulk. I swear I didn't plan the little witch trio but I love it!
