I finished the #yatescoat yesterday. The outer is wool coating from Argentina. The lining is from the thrift store except where I need a bit for the arm linings. My biceps are big so I had to do a full bicep adjustment. I learned what this was from @her.two.hands @saltlakesewciety . Thanks for giving me the direction and encouragement to get this done @saltlakesewciety ! I took a class to do this, it was pretty intense for me. I tend to take a long time on the first try of something because I mess up a lot and I have become the type of person who takes the time to go back and fix it. By the time I get the hang of it it's time to move on to something else new. I made a coat! This is the #yatescoat from @grainlinestudio in a wool/alpaca deadstock from @corefabrics. The lining is a fun rayon print from @workroomsocial, and most of the sewing took place at #campworkroomsocial too! 🏕️ I'm so happy with the way it turned out! I took my measurements with a big sweater on to ensure that I'll be able to wear it over anything all winter, and so I ended up making a size 14 with no pattern modifications. In the Maker's Atelier class Sharon helped me add strategic construction modifications and hand sewing to elevate the coat and keep everything in place. 🪡 As much as I love fall, I now actually have a reason to look forward to the colder weather! ❄️

Is it officially spring in the northern hemisphere? Why yes it is though I can’t really say I’ve experienced much of a winter season here in my little corner of the world 🤷🏻‍♀️ So why did I make a winter coat? 🤔 Good question my friends. Honestly, I’ve had this Yates coat cut out since the beginning of the year in the ‘dead’ of winter and due to my creative slump and the weird not really winter days, I haven’t felt the desire to sew it up. And although we are heading into a new season with warmer temperatures, I didn’t want to put this beautiful project away. I didn’t want it to be forgotten or left aside for years to come before I finally sewed it up. So over the past week, I sat down and sewed up this coat. And I am so pleased I did so because it’s the perfect coat for this transitional season, where it slightly cooler in the mornings and evenings but warm during the days. It also look very chic, if I do say so myself 😉 . . Details: 🧥: #yatescoat by @grainlinestudio in size 6 (no mods to the size but omitted topstitching on sleeves and topstitched along the bottom at a 1/4” from the edge) Fabric was purchased from 2 shops in Nippori Fabric Town, a dedicated area in Tokyo for fabric aficionados and textile lovers. With over 90 stores that sells anything from fabrics, buttons, zippers, beads, - it’s truly a maker’s heaven! For this coat, the pink and gray herringbone wool (outer shell) was purchased from Elegance. It is a store that specializes in European fabrics. The bunny cotton quilted fabric (lining) was purchased from Tsukiyasu, a shop that sell hundreds of fabrics in various Japanese patterns. (I was particularly smitten with the 🐇🐰🐇 on the fabric. Haha sue me 🤪). Not pictured is the merlot kasha lining from fabricland for the inner sleeves and pocket linings of this coat (to ease slipping into and out of this coat).
