#crochet mesh tee I saw a photo of an electric blue knitted mesh tee here in instagram and I loved it so much I had to recreate it in a crocheted version. I use the #hemlocktee by @grainlinestudio as my pattern because it’s the perfect oversized tee. The stitch pattern a simple dc, ch, dc repeat and I knitted the ribbing with k1,p1. For the sleeves I just crocheted along the side after I joined the shoulder seams and made 15 rows without any decreases and finished with the knitted ribbing. Day 1 of #memademay2025 and #ithsew30 I haven't participated in Me Made May since 2021, and there are plenty of garments you haven't seen yet, so I thought this would be a good way to document those, and also find any holes in my wardrobe that I can fill. I wish I was someone who took really aesthetic photos and had a nice looking grid, but this is better than nothing. Today I'm wearing a #hemlocktee by @grainlinestudio which I hacked for a more fitted look. Fabric was gifted to me. Along with a hacked version of #closetcoreginger that I really like. Denim, I believe, was from the @corefabrics store. I'm also going to try to sew for 30 minutes every day as per the @insidethehem challenge. It seems my sew-jo has been missing for a while, and I'm hoping this helps. So today I decided to work on my undies game and sewed for over 45 minutes. Win!

#sewfrugal25 I made a second #hemlocktee but this time I added 1/2 inch to both front and back shoulder seam grading out from the neckline so as not to change it. I also added 1 inch to the width of the sleeve to compensate for the additional circumference of the arm hole. I like the fit much better as the first one i made is quite a tighter fit. Not sure how I feel about a drop shoulder, so I’m so glad we have access to free patterns so that we may try before we buy. Sometimes when I have a project in mind it doesn’t always turn out as I expected 🤣 I had this lovely foil effect jersey in my stash for a while with the intention of making a very simple Tshirt. Perfect for those evenings out where you want something a bit special but easy to make it casual with jeans and trainers. I didn’t quite anticipate how grippy the foil coating would be and at the same time how slippery the inside was too! This meant I did have manhandle the fabric through the sewing machine quite a bit and it certainly wasn’t as quick as making a normal Tshirt 😅 I got there in the end but the neckline did get caught up when I overlocked the edges right at the front 🤦🏼‍♀️ (but it isn’t too noticeable) I also didn’t hem the sleeves or bottom of the Tee as I knew it would look bumpy as anything 😆 Once I had the finished garment I was happy enough but then when I tried it on I just am not convinced I like it as much as I was hoping to. I’m not quite sure what it is about it… maybe it is just a bit too shiny for my liking and the creases show up a lot 🤷‍♀️ I’m going to see how much I wear it but this may be a make that is destined for the charity shop….we will see! Goofing around in a recently finished Grainline Studio Hemlock tee. The fabric is a drapey deadstock modal jersey from Stonemountain & Daughter @stonemountainfabric I made a size 12 based on my current full bust measurement of 39in, with short sleeves & the mid length (shortened about an inch because I'm 5'3"). I cut the pattern pieces flat for better stripe matching, finished the interior seams with an overlock serger, and topstitched the neckline & hems with a medium zig zag. I'm 16 months postpartum and my body hasn't felt like my home for 2 years now. I'm about 15 cm larger everywhere, a good few sizes up and although I've been this size before, this body feels different. I'm also still breastfeeding, so my wardrobe has to accommodate that - I miss dresses! The largest part of my handmade wardrobe resides in vacuum packed bags, and in some ways I'm living my minimalist dreams. I love the simplicity of not having too much choice, but boy am I getting bored! I'm yawning at the sight of what to wear; I used to dress for dopamine but this is quite the opposite, I'm getting dressed to literally get dressed. 😅😅 My little quilted patchwork gilet, which is the only thing I have made since having a baby, is literally saving the day everyday as I reach for it and use it to elevate anything I'm wearing. I'm not using Me Made May as a way to rediscover my handmade wardrobe, trust me there is a finite amount of possible combinations, and I'm not here to string it out. Instead, what I really want to do is start thinking about ways I want to dress now. I stood in front of my camera and snapped a few angles and traced over those templates to start playing with new shapes and volume. I want to feel excited about the possibilities; a new body, a new playground! Me Made May brings a lot of feelings for all of us who sew our clothes. If you have done it for a few years, it's hard not to confront changes in our body, attitudes toward our makes, or sometimes just longing for more time to sew again. But I'm grateful I get to wear mostly honest clothes everyday, lovingly made in my own fair hands - however repetitive it's getting! 🥱🥲 How are you getting on with the challenge? My classic #hemlocktee in a blue rayon jersey that I made a couple years ago and I wear a lot for work. The skort is the @greenstyle_patterns #paseoskirt The fabric is a shiny athletic knit from the Walmart discount shelf. The skirt pattern has amazing pockets front and back and optional shorts. The hemline can be longer or shorter, this is the longer version with side split hem. The only tiny nitpick I have about the pattern is that it says to attach the facing with a straight stitch. On a stretch fabric that just doesn't seem to make sense, and I've already popped the stitches from squatting while wearing this skort, so I will use a stretch stitch next time. I also had to grade between 3 sizes, Size G at the waist to size I at hip and back in between G & H at the hem. I really love skorts and have already made a 2nd one and have the fabric for a 3rd 😂 #sewing #greenstylepatterns #hemlocktee #grainlinestudio

While shopping a couple months ago I tried on a waffle knit sweater (see the last image). Loved the texture and fit, but the colors available weren't really speaking to me. Luckily I remembered I had this blue cotton waffle knit in my stash with matching rib and was able to make my own. Overall I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out but the waviness in the seam of the bottom band bugs me. Has anyone else had this problem with cotton waffle knits? I didn’t stretch the band much at all and the body was only an inch bigger than the band. I used the Hemlock tee from @grainlinestudio. I've made this tee before and felt that the arms were too tight so I sized up two sizes, but graded back down to my original size in in the hip. In a previous version I redrew the neckline so that it was a standard crew neck. I love that sewing allows you to make adjustments to a pattern to make it unique to you, and I did that with this #peppermintpocketskirt. I think it was my fabric choice, but after making up this skirt, the pockets were hanging out a bit too much for my liking, so with help from my sewing teacher, added a pleat and buttons, and now wear this skirt all the time. I'm reminded that adding a button or a little detail can make all the difference. I added 2 pockets and buttons to a matching Ashton top I made with the extra fabric in the last photo. I haven't been sewing a ton recently, but this week I decided to tackle my to-sew list, which included a bunch of shirts and dresses that my girls have been patiently waiting for (so much so that their requested long sleeved shirts/dresses are getting sewn up as short sleeved shirts/dresses). As I was working through some WIP, I found this Hemlock Tee I had cut for myself two months ago. I bought this deadstock knit last year thinking that it was a rib knit I could use for a tank top, but it's actually more of a sweater knit. I didn't have enough for long sleeves, so I opted for elbow-length sleeves. It's a great transitional spring item! I switched the neckline up for a v-neck with a thick band, but otherwise made no mods to the pattern. I’m a hoarder of fabric leftovers, and this fact just saved me from owning a crop top way shorter than what I dare wearing in public. This is the #hemlocktee made in linen. I cut my regular size in the crop length because that fit the linen I had available. To make it more wearable for me, I added a small strip of leftover linen that I had from my Olya shirt. This was a quick Sunday make, worn today to work and already got a compliment! #memademay2020 Day 19: It is nice and sunny but windy. An 11 inch remnant plus a 19 inch remnant equals a pieced together sweatshirt. I bought these small cuts from a @needlesharpny remnant sale and instead of making something child-sized, I thought it made way more sense to make a long-sleeved adult-sized top. 🤷🏻‍♀️ This is the @grainlinestudio hemlock tee as a sweatshirt. I usually slim down both the sleeves and the body of this pattern, but didn't make any mods for this version. The pattern as designed is perfectly oversized for fleece fabric. The sleeves are pieced together at the elbow and I had to add a band along the bottom so it wasn't super cropped. The fabric only has vertical stretch so I cut the neckband out of three pieces along the grainline. Wellllllll it’s May again, and I’m not gonna lie, me made may stresses me the hell out. It did back when I made most of my clothes and even more so now that I can’t remember the last thing I sewed for myself. It’s been a REAL challenging last few years mental health wise apart from the pandemic and I basically stopped doing all crafts outside of work. But I’m recently knitting again, have some fabric washed and pressed for a new dress, and I’m ready to see how it goes. I work from home and most days I’m wearing comfy clothes. When I run out to the post I throw on another layer and hopefully no one notices I’m actually wearing yoga pants. Sometimes when I have a project in mind it doesn’t always turn out as I expected 🤣 I had this lovely foil effect jersey in my stash for a while with the intention of making a very simple Tshirt. Perfect for those evenings out where you want something a bit special but easy to make it casual with jeans and trainers. I didn’t quite anticipate how grippy the foil coating would be and at the same time how slippery the inside was too! This meant I did have manhandle the fabric through the sewing machine quite a bit and it certainly wasn’t as quick as making a normal Tshirt 😅 I got there in the end but the neckline did get caught up when I overlocked the edges right at the front 🤦🏼‍♀️ (but it isn’t too noticeable) I also didn’t hem the sleeves or bottom of the Tee as I knew it would look bumpy as anything 😆 Once I had the finished garment I was happy enough but then when I tried it on I just am not convinced I like it as much as I was hoping to. I’m not quite sure what it is about it… maybe it is just a bit too shiny for my liking and the creases show up a lot 🤷‍♀️ I’m going to see how much I wear it but this may be a make that is destined for the charity shop….we will see! I wanted to make the tee and culottes as matching but unfortunately the color is slightly different. The first photo is when I pulled the sleeves up and the second one is the sleeves down. I like the first look better. I like the bottom so I bought Winslow culottes pattern from Helen’s closet but I haven’t made them yet. But wait! I also bought Arden pants pattern... I seriously need time to sew! Another my wish list is Zadie Jumpsuit. Last make of 2020. It's been a decade of a year, but has also been surprisingly productive for me in terms of sewing. Made this beaut last week out of fabric leftovers. The pattern is the Hemlock Tee by @grainlinestudio, and the fabric is a mohair wool knit from @moodfabrics. So now I have a matching coat-sweater set, and I couldn't me more thrilled!! Oh, and I added cuffs to the sleeves and a band to the hem. Squeezed everything I could out of my scraps! day 11: hot off the machine! I finished the #grainlinehemlocktee I posted yesterday. This is a straight size 24 in the cropped length, using a poly/linen knit from @blackbirdfabrics. I cut the back piece on the selvedge instead of the fold and added a center back seam in order to squeeze it out of a yard of 57” fabric! I made it hoping to replace a RTW that’s practically threadbare but I’m not sure about the fit. Goofing around in a recently finished Grainline Studio Hemlock tee. The fabric is a drapey deadstock modal jersey from Stonemountain & Daughter @stonemountainfabric I made a size 12 based on my current full bust measurement of 39in, with short sleeves & the mid length (shortened about an inch because I'm 5'3"). I cut the pattern pieces flat for better stripe matching, finished the interior seams with an overlock serger, and topstitched the neckline & hems with a medium zig zag. Me-made outfit-of-the-day! I just finished this Hemlock Tee (free pattern from @grainlinestudio) the other day using this incredibly drapey bamboo linen I picked up from @dressew years ago! I made the size 4 mid-length with short sleeves. I think I'll be living in this shirt from here on out! It ticks all of the boxes - oversized, drop shoulder, wide neckline! My pants are another fave - they are the Arenite pants by @sewliberated made from sand-washed cotton from @blackbirdfabrics. I haven't been sewing a ton recently, but this week I decided to tackle my to-sew list, which included a bunch of shirts and dresses that my girls have been patiently waiting for (so much so that their requested long sleeved shirts/dresses are getting sewn up as short sleeved shirts/dresses). As I was working through some WIP, I found this Hemlock Tee I had cut for myself two months ago. I bought this deadstock knit last year thinking that it was a rib knit I could use for a tank top, but it's actually more of a sweater knit. I didn't have enough for long sleeves, so I opted for elbow-length sleeves. It's a great transitional spring item! I switched the neckline up for a v-neck with a thick band, but otherwise made no mods to the pattern. Pine green is apparently hard to catch in a pic. But these are a lovely, saturated, forest kind of green. I think the front one is the best. It's a free sewing pattern, the @elbe_textiles #sagetee and we loved it. Easy to cut, easy to sew, nice instructions. And the cotton (and 5% elastene) fabric from #fabricgodmother was wonderful to work with. First thing I've sewn for my other half and he's very happy with it. The one in back (for me) is also a free sewing pattern. It's the #grainlinehemlock tee but while the fabric is lovely, I'm not so sure it's the right match for the pattern. Since it's boxy, I thought a little drape would be nice and tried this horizontally ribbed, mostly viscose and slightly heavy jersey ... I think it's a Meet Milk fabric. Although thicker, it isn't warm at all. I added in some clear elastic to reinforce the shoulder seams and around the neck and am very glad I did. I think it's a bit too heavy and drapey but will wear it till the viscose pills up (which isn't going to take long, from early signs).

Item two is complete. For this relaxed v-neck tee I used the #hemlocktee pattern by @grainlinestudio and just lengthened the sleeves and redrew the neckline. It didn’t turn out quiet as loose as I pictured it. Wellllllll it’s May again, and I’m not gonna lie, me made may stresses me the hell out. It did back when I made most of my clothes and even more so now that I can’t remember the last thing I sewed for myself. It’s been a REAL challenging last few years mental health wise apart from the pandemic and I basically stopped doing all crafts outside of work. But I’m recently knitting again, have some fabric washed and pressed for a new dress, and I’m ready to see how it goes. I got back to my creative blogging in time to mull over my #2018makenine goals. Even though I totally lost track of crafty things after the summer, I astounded myself by making 7.5 of the projects planned. Not all of them worked as I hoped, of course. But I learned a lot, like how to sew a zipper fly and not to buy fabric without a plan, to believe the gauge on a knitting pattern, and also more about what I like to make and what I like to wear. Finding light to photograph a drapey black skirt when the shortening days mean I'm typically leaving work at sunset was not easy. I hope the pattern details are at least somewhat visible! This is view A of the Reznor Skirt from Elbe Textiles in cotton/spandex jersey from Blackbird Fabrics. I traced the pattern in a straight size G, which matched my waist measurement. The pattern is drafted for 5'7" and I'm a smidge over 5'3" so I wound up shortening the main pattern pieces by 3" and the lining by 2.5". It was a pretty simple adjustment for the back skirt panel and the lining pieces, but the angles of the front hem made it a little trickier. If/when I make this again, I'll probably change how I shorten it to raise the where the overlap meets at the hip & keep the original width of the bottom of the front panels. This was also my first time finishing a project with a coverstitch serger. I don't own one, but my library has one  as part of its Library of Things collection. I pre-pressed the hems with Heat 'n Bond soft stretch fusible before sewing them, and the coverstitch made for a really beautiful, satisfying finish. If you have a local Library of Things or Tool Library, I'd highly recommend seeing if they have any sewing equipment! As for the rest of the construction, I assembled the pieces with a straight stitch and Gutermann Maraflex stretch thread, then trimmed & finished the seam allowance with an overlock serger. When it came to elastic attachment, the Maraflex was skipping stitches, so I did that with all-purpose poly thread and a medium zig-zag. I used 1.5" elastic instead of 1". I zipped through sewing this in a week of evenings (in large part because I had to return the coverstitch). In a sort of a funny parallel, the top is probably the first thing I sewed with knits using a pattern (there were some self-drafted things and t-shirt hacks back when I was in high school, nearly 20 years ago) -- it's the Grainline Studio Hemlock Tee from back when that was a one-size-fits-most pattern. I probably made it in 2016 or 2017. It's all done with a narrow zig zag and there are some places where I still haven't trimmed the thread tails...

#memademay2024 / #okaymemademay day 11 It just so happens that “free pattern” day fell on a Saturday when I needed extreme cozy vibes, so naturally I reached for my fave free pattern: my @grainlinestudio Hemlock tee in a cotton jersey from @blackbirdfabrics. (The Hemlock tee is free to all the Grainline Studio newsletter subscribers.) I haven’t done a whole lot of sewing with knits but this top was my first successful foray into the world of knits, and to this day it is one of my most-worn t-shirts. I’m wearing it with my black linen @annaallenclothing Pomona pants and ridiculous puffy Chacos slip-ons. My top and pants are both wrinkly but who cares!

I have been slowly sewing some items to add to my spring/summer wardrobe… This is another #FreePDFPattern, the #HemlockTee by @Grainlinestudio made in a cotton knit which I bought almost 6 years ago. This is a very easy and satisfying sew and I can see a few more in the near future. This is an easy layer piece and has the possibilities of elevating any outfit! I made view B in a size 24, no mods and it has a boxy, slightly oversized fit which I love! My entry for #sewfrugal23 I made a #grainlinehemlock out of some French terry that I got @ssefabrics. This was my first grainline studio pattern and I really loved their YouTube videos. I could size down in this one. But it was an easy, fun make. Secondly I made the Speedwell swimsuit by Mood. I have been wanting to make swimwear for a long time but I was afraid. Thanks to @frugalisama and @theyorkshiresewgirl and this challenge I gave it a try and am so happy I did! The pattern was really easy. I need to make a smaller size with a FBA. I’m not afraid of sewing swim anymore!

#MeMadeMay catch up post week 2. Much cooler start to the week meant an outing for my newly finished knit vest 😁 yes I do still need to deal with all the ends... So warm jogging bottoms, thin jumper, vest and then alpaca wool cardigan for Monday. Tuesday: zero waste overalls from @goldfinchtextilestudio, #SeamworkAims top and colour work vest. Weds: jogging bottoms, #GrainlineHemlock top (needs replacing) and #Riddari sweater as cardigan. Thurs: entirely RTW rust trousers that are a staple in my wardrobe and probably need a replacement pair, beige polo from Nan's wardrobe. Fri: warming up a bit, and doing more gardening. #BHLLeo dungarees that were @knightcrafts toile for them (ie many sizes smaller than me), zero waste shirt, hand made hat. Sat: more intense gardening = dungarees and shirt again + safety orange jumper... Evening, switching it up to a dress for a birthday BBQ. I have been wondering about whether to get rid of this dress or not, but I think it gets a stay of execution for now, I just need to do something to the pockets. Sun: more gardening, but not photographed... All in all a fairly practical set of clothes for the week, this is more representative of my wardrobe overall. I think I need to make another pair of lightweight dungarees in something that looks less like it was made from a bed sheet. And replace my long sleeved knit tops as they are all coming to the end of the fabrics life. Oh and add another pair of trousers like these rust ones to the wardrobe, gathered ankles essential to avoid ticks...

Just back from a great weekend at sewing camp with the @brisbanespoolettes . My sew-Jo energy was a bit low , but still managed to get through most of my projects. This is a Grainline Hemlock T shirt in cotton Lycra from @spotlightstores accidentally made a few sizes too large but I'm embracing its roomy vibe . There was enough fabric left over to make a pair of Barrie boy cut briefs from @kitschycoo , thankyou to @alimmay for introducing me to this pattern . Finally, finally, finally got the impetus to get back to my sewing machine! It’s a simple tee I’m working on for #SewFrugal24wip because I wanted a new one for my holiday. The #GrainlineHemlock is available for free to newsletter subscribers and it’s a boxy tee which I like when I want something simple. I only have 1m of this viscose jersey in stash but it’s 150cm wide so just manageable for my size. Now I have to remember to post the finished item on 31st 😂😂😂

An 11 inch remnant plus a 19 inch remnant equals a pieced together sweatshirt. I bought these small cuts from a @needlesharpny remnant sale and instead of making something child-sized, I thought it made way more sense to make a long-sleeved adult-sized top. 🤷🏻‍♀️ This is the @grainlinestudio hemlock tee as a sweatshirt. I usually slim down both the sleeves and the body of this pattern, but didn't make any mods for this version. The pattern as designed is perfectly oversized for fleece fabric. The sleeves are pieced together at the elbow and I had to add a band along the bottom so it wasn't super cropped. The fabric only has vertical stretch so I cut the neckband out of three pieces along the grainline. While shopping a couple months ago I tried on a waffle knit sweater (see the last image). Loved the texture and fit, but the colors available weren't really speaking to me. Luckily I remembered I had this blue cotton waffle knit in my stash with matching rib and was able to make my own. Overall I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out but the waviness in the seam of the bottom band bugs me. Has anyone else had this problem with cotton waffle knits? I didn’t stretch the band much at all and the body was only an inch bigger than the band. I used the Hemlock tee from @grainlinestudio. I've made this tee before and felt that the arms were too tight so I sized up two sizes, but graded back down to my original size in in the hip. In a previous version I redrew the neckline so that it was a standard crew neck. Last make of 2020. It's been a decade of a year, but has also been surprisingly productive for me in terms of sewing. Made this beaut last week out of fabric leftovers. The pattern is the Hemlock Tee by @grainlinestudio, and the fabric is a mohair wool knit from @moodfabrics. So now I have a matching coat-sweater set, and I couldn't me more thrilled!! Oh, and I added cuffs to the sleeves and a band to the hem. Squeezed everything I could out of my scraps! Pretty soon, I'll have a wardrobe filled with fabrics that look like fluffy clouds in a summer sky. Can't wait. Also, I have no idea how to wash this. #memademay2020 Day 19: It is nice and sunny but windy. The morning light made the photo hard to see so I used the filter to change the color. #memadeootd is #morrisblazer and #hemlocktee from @grainlinestudio . The bottom is RTW. I wanted to make the tee and culottes as matching but unfortunately the color is slightly different. The first photo is when I pulled the sleeves up and the second one is the sleeves down. I like the first look better. I like the bottom so I bought Winslow culottes pattern from Helen’s closet but I haven’t made them yet. But wait! I also bought Arden pants pattern... I seriously need time to sew! Another my wish list is Zadie Jumpsuit.
