Since I use our dining room table for cutting out patterns, and cutting out is the most tedious/dreaded part for me, I tend to cut multiple patterns out at a time. . These are the patterns I’ve got cut & ready to go. Yes, I will still give myself flexibility to let some projects “jump the line,” but I also want to get these out of bins and on people (mostly me, but one is obviously for one of my kiddos 😊). . I also want to try and find creative ways to use scraps. Me Made May Day 6 (Ignore the marks on my face where my mask has been all day!) It’s been a day in the workshop today. I usually wear the same thing when I’m working in there but when the sun starts shining it’s hard to put on the long trousers and long sleeves. This is a #archerbuttonup by @grainlinestudio where I’ve hacked it to have no sleeves. I remember I made this well before I had kids so that’s at least 8 years ago 😲 crazy! I haven’t posted any finished makes lately because of travel but also because I decided to try making my three handkerchief weight linen #archerbuttonup shirts for our Fall hiking trip in assembly line style. I have never done this before, but I literally stacked all three pieces of linen on top of each other and cut all three of them out at once. I wasn’t sure if there would be enough accuracy in a stacked cut, but it has worked out just fine so far. Now I’m working my way through the construction, completing each step on all three shirts before moving onto the next step. While, this is not the exciting kind of sewing that I usually look forward to, it has definitely been efficient. One of my favorite things about the Archer is its versatility. It's the perfect loose fitting everyday button up when made according to the size chart, but size up and you've got an oversized shirt that's perfect in heavier fabrics like corduroy. That's exactly what @girlsinthegarden.sews did! ⁠ ⁠ Lori used a Japanese corduroy from @stylemakerfabrics to create her version and it's perfect paired with her cuffed pants and boots. I had a fantastic time this week at the @guthrieghani_studio on their Sewing Retreat with the fabulous @oldfashionedway Layla. 🪡🧵✂️ Sewing in a heatwave was certainly a challenge but having three full days dedicated to sewing was wonderful. This was my first make, the @grainlinestudio Archer Shirt in this gorgeous embroidered polka dot chambray from @guthrieghani I cut a size 12, shortened the sleeves by 2” and Layla also taught me how to do an alternative tower placket rather than the bound one in the pattern. I’m not really a #memademay pledge type of person (I would have to not *hate* being in front of the camera), but I do intend to catch up on all of the makes I’ve made over the last year or so but haven’t posted. I’m going to start with some of my favorite (and most recent) which are these 2 Archer button-ups from @grainlinestudio. You can’t really go wrong with a button-up for any occasion, IMO—I love having them for work, to throw on as a light layer for a hike, or just oot and aboot. I made the plaid one first, which feels insane looking back on it. As difficult and imperfect as my pattern matching turned out to be, I am very pleased with it. And I like incorporating bias cuts in all of the details. Pattern: #archerbuttonup by @grainlinestudio. I sewed a 10 and graded to a 16 in the hips. I didn’t end up lengthening the sleeves for either since the measurements match my favorite LL Bean flannel exactly, but they still feel a touch short? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I’m not chuffed, though, since the only time I unroll the sleeves are to layer them under sweaters. Fabric: The plaid twill is from @moodfabrics. Absolutely love the colors—obsessed. The chambray is a 4oz from Joann’s (RIP) that I grabbed when I heard they were going out of business. Current measurements: 5’11” | 38” B | 28” W | 44” H. After a week that seemed longer than usual, loosing an hour of sleep, gaining a sneezy nose because of pollen, I refuse to not like spring. So a cup of green tea in the afternoon put a spring in my step and it’s on to quilting again. (I didn’t do any yesterday due to domestic chores that needed my attention 🙄) So once done with my day job, I put on my shoes and went for a walk. I love walking. It helps to clear my head and it gets the creative ideas flowing. So when I came home, I knew what font I wanted to use for the next name. For the time being, still no selfish sewing, abut I did pick up some elastics for a swim suit. In the meantime all I can show you is old and well loved memades such as the #archershirt in this lovely cotton lawn, I think it’s @c.pauli.nature_official , with a linen collar and the #edwardianwaistcoat in cotton twill. I also fished out my little handmade leather bag in order to force myself to NOT bring too much stuff along on a walk. I like to think it’s a mum thing to bring half of your household along “just in case we need it”, but I know that I’ve been doing this forever and my shoulders don’t like this habit of mine. #upcycle #refashion 12 years ago I ventured into online clothes shopping. I bought a long drapey printed black skirt from Birdsnest in size 12. The sizing IRL was smaller and so this gorgeous skirt was rarely worn, especially with perimenopause symptoms 🙄. . I know where the major gaps in my handmade wardrobe are (pants!) and while I have some projects in the pipeline, I'm not fast and I don't like giving my personal projects a hard deadline.  And also, I already wear my me-mades almost every day. #memademay2025 Day 7? Wearable toile that is now in regular rotation! Fabric was a mega cheap cotton lawn from my local @masons_needlecraft so I think this whole shirt cost me £8 including buttons! Currently adjusting the pattern for a chambray version including forward shoulder, rounded back and wide back following @gemeine_wildrebe amazing instructions. Day 11 of @newcrafthouse #sewyourselfsustainable is face coverings! I must admit I find making face coverings a bit of a chore and don't really love it, but have made a few for myself and family. ~ ~ I've been making the pattern which @stitchodyssey shared and I find it much more enjoyable than some other patterns I've tried. There is something cute about having a matching one for your outfit!! ~ ~ I'm wearing a matching face covering to my latest @grainlinestudio #archerbuttonup. Following my toile I decided to shorten the sleeves by 2cm and kept the size as a 2 graded to 4 at the hips. I had a fantastic time this week at the @guthrieghani_studio on their Sewing Retreat with the fabulous @oldfashionedway Layla. 🪡🧵✂️ Sewing in a heatwave was certainly a challenge but having three full days dedicated to sewing was wonderful. This was my first make, the @grainlinestudio Archer Shirt in this gorgeous embroidered polka dot chambray from @guthrieghani I cut a size 12, shortened the sleeves by 2” and Layla also taught me how to do an alternative tower placket rather than the bound one in the pattern.
