Well I finally found some suitable solid cotton braid cord to put in my field bags and town bags... I ordered it from @knotandropesupply and it's nice quality and came quickly... the funny thing is this solid cotton braid cord that ended up working I actually ordered to use for fabric wrapped rope items... sadly it is too small and soft for that, but perfect for this... so now I have 300 feet of 3/16" solid cotton braid cord to use as drawstring in field bags and town bags... Another version of the knitting on the go bag, this one is for me. I’ve been struggling to watch the kiddos’ soccer practice and balancing a ball of wool under my yarn to knit. This version has taller pockets, a zipper for my wallets and keys and a shoulder strap so I can knit while standing in a soggy field. Used this weekend as soon as I finished it up and am so happy with the results. Looking forward to more knitting on the go. …and of course the thing that got me out of my sewing rut was needing a project bag for my work-in-progress knit sweater! #grainlinetownbag using stash upholstery fabric and webbing. I love this bag, I loved the process of sewing this bag, and I’m so happy to have something I can transport my giant squishy sweater in. This was the first time I used the Project&Cut software to calibrate and project my pattern and ohhhhh my god, I have never been happier to spend $20 on a product. I loved #projectorsewing before but this removed a major brain barrier for me, making it easier to get in the creative flow and start sewing without burning energy on calibrating and setting everything up. Partway through the project I realized I forgot to cut a piece and in the past I would have tossed the project aside in frustration because I wouldn’t want to get my projector out again. With the new software it was like 3 minutes between that realization and when I had the piece cut out, and no tantrum!

I'm so delighted with how this #scrapbustingproject has turned out 😊! This is a #grainlinetownbag made entirely from scrap denim sourced from @hiutdenim (not affiliated) and lined in a gorgeous #ankarafabric scrap from my stash. Construction as per the Town bag hack reel series I posted earlier this year, which extended the size of the pockets, added a canvas layer for sturdiness and added a lining. This cavernous beauty is my new knitting bag but it's so pretty I can see me using it as a handbag too. I had little strips of the cream denim so I decided to create a patchwork pocket detail on both sides. I used topstitching and added patch pockets to give this a jeans vibe. I didn't have any suitable webbing so I made my own straps which I think look nicer anyway. I omitted the drawstring top because it's far too sturdy to draw in. It's capacious and has internal pockets too so there's a place for everything. Over the summer Gabrielle and I did some cyanotype printing, on the only cloudy day of the Christmas break 😅 it wasn’t terribly successful, but I had enough pre-prepped cotton to have another go a few days later when the sun came back out, and one of the pieces was this button and yarn print. I used some of my favourite buttons for it, and a bunch of the textured/transparent ones I seem to have acquired, and it was really interesting to see how they all turned out! I thought it would be cute for a knitting project bag, so used it for the outer pocket of this Grainline Town bag. This thing is massive, it has 3x 200g balls of yarn in it and there’s room for more! A tale of two bags.... My final make of 2023 was the #grainlinetownbag which I've been itching to stitch since it was released. I was kindly #gifted this gorgeous washed cotton canvas from the #MinervaBrandAmbassador programme and it's perfect for this project. The bag on the right was my first version, and it's exactly as per the pattern. It immediately struck me that there were multiple ways this pattern could be improved to be more suited to what I need so I made a second version on the left that I'm delighted with. I made some short videos as I went along with my review of the original and my mods for this second version which I'll post soon. Overall I think the town bag is an excellent bag for crafters of all kinds, and I can see that they've made the pattern that way to make it easier to make and compatible with more machines (my beloved Bernie is an absolute Spartan and beasted her way through the 6-10 layer portions but a lot of machines would have objected to this treatment). I am happier with my version though for what I need it to do. I finished the second one on Hogmanay and it felt really appropriate to end 2023 making something. I also made a @grainlinestudio #townbag for another travel knitting project containment option - this one will hold a large project like a nearly finished sweater, or a couple of smaller projects (including a Field Bag!). The way the inside and outside pockets come together is very clever, and gives nice structure to the bag. Again, very thoughtful design details for knitters, would recommend as a road trip bag. I skipped the rivets because I was not confident in punching the holes in the webbing, but I think the straps are very securely attached without them. I recommend watching the YouTube sew-along when you box the corners, the steps made much more sense after I had seen it. Grainline Town Bag - final version 🌈 Having made one #grainlinetownbag according to the instructions I felt there was room for improvement so I immediately made a second one, and this one is exactly what I was looking for! I really heavily modified the pattern and construction method so I'm going to post a few reels to show what I did and why, hopefully that'll be useful to anyone with similar issues. Briefly I: made it two layers instead of one, to add an underlining for extra structure. I extended the pocket depth on both the inside and outside. I shortened the straps and changed where they're attached. I was going to add a zip pocket as an extra flex but made my pockets so big it didn't fit in 🤣 I also disregarded the pattern markings and used my own lazy methods which I think are simpler so will share. The fabric I used is a washed cotton canvas from #MinervaFabrics and it's really lovely. It was #gifted to me in exchange for a blog post and I would highly recommend. It's the same fabric I used for my mauve Blanca flightsuit so it's also good for apparel. Behaves itself and is a nice combo of soft and structural and comes in lots of lovely colours. The webbing is from @hobbycrafthq and the Rainbow Brite patch is from eBay.
