the sweatsuit of my dreams has arrived 🤩☁️ i finally tried out the @daughterjudypatterns #wrenfleece & it was v fun to put together 🥰 i fell below the size chart & after reading the finished measurement chart for sz XS, i decided to modify for my preferred fit: ☁️ -8” from chest ☁️ -2” from CB length ☁️ -3.5” from hem ☁️ -1.5” from cuff opening ☁️ 1” serged hem on bottom i wasn’t sure what the finished sleeve length was going to be, but now that i’m wearing it, i wish i had added 2-3” to the length bc it’s at a perfectly cropped length that gets caught on my forearm when i move around & i’ve just gotta keep them pushed up over my elbows to not bother me sensory-wise i used some v lush sweatshirting, gifted by @minervadotcom through their brand ambassador program 💖 & leftover white ribbing i bought from @twooninefabric.ca 💗 i did have to seam rip & narrow the cuffs a bit more as it was p stretchy & i wanted a fitted-but-not-snug cuff i also revisited the @truebias #hudsonpant & continued to modify the pattern to my liking so i ended up: ☁️ +2.5” to rise ☁️ +5.5” to pant length ☁️ + 1-1.5” to outseam & inseam to create a straight leg fit i was going to cut off ~3” of the pant length & leave the hem raw, but these pants also happen to fit tripod & since he is much taller than me, i, being the selfless sewist that i am, decided to postpone shortening the hem so that he can wear them too (for now) 😮‍💨 #memade #sewistsofinstagram #daughterjudypatterns #truebias #sweatsuit #minerva [Image ID in alt text]

MeMade sweatsuit details ✨    The tops is the @megannielsenpatterns #MNJarrah — I’ve made this several times before and find the sizing and construction straightforward, so no notes here.     But the bottoms were new to me, kinda. I’ve attempted the @truebias #HudsonPant once before, several years ago, and it was a complete failure. Like, I couldn’t even get the pants above my thighs. YIKES.     My measurements would guide me to a size 2 in these but for fear of again not fitting into these (one of the worst feelings), I cut these as a very loose 4/6. I wasn’t gonna print and tape the PDF pattern again so I just eyeballed adding a generous 3/8” to the seams. My seam allowance was 1/4”. Additionally, I did the mid rise hack on these as instructed on the True Bias blog. (In full disclosure, I forget to raise the bottom of the pocket curve but it doesn’t seem to have mattered much — I just tacked the bottom inch of the pocket closed so it didn’t stick out.)    Anyway, happy to report that the fit on these is great, and I love the mid-rise. In my work wardrobe, I am very torn between giving in and wearing scrub-like outfits, and my dislike for wearing anything remotely pajama-like in public. I work at a hospital and 90% of my coworkers are in scrubs. But I can’t deal with seeing myself in matching top/bottoms, it just makes me look tired and ready for bed. These joggers are the closest I’ll get, and I’m in LOVE. I’m still figuring out how to style them. (Have you ever searched on Pinterest “how to dress up joggers” and turned up 15 pictures of white women in jean jackets??) I can’t figure out if I want to wear them to hike, brunch, work, ski, gym, dog walk, or the grocery store? All of the above?! They are #hudsonpants with several mods detailed below. I couldn’t find much information about the difference in fit between the women’s and men’s patterns, and already owned the men’s version. It seems the men’s are drafted longer, higher rise, slightly different pocket shape, maybe narrower hip? They fit me great, though I do have fairly straight hips. They are made from dreamy, super warm, thick but lightweight polar fleece. Only broke one needle on my serger! I tried something new today. I made pants!! 🥳 Y’all, I can sew bags for days, but a piece of clothing scares me! 🤣🥴 I’m happy to report that they turned out really good! Especially for my first pair. I am so thankful I made these shorts before it got super hot - they are in heavy rotation right now. Super light and comfy, what more could I ask for? Oh yeah, pockets and slightly oversized! Also, just to note, I am posting frequent birth updates in my stories, so feel free to follow along if that’s your jam. . . I made these maternity #hudsonshorts with the only intent to be to wear them during pregnancy and post-partum. I doubt they will fit in a year and that is totally ok. I sewed them up in a size 16, which was the largest size that I could do with pattern package I purchased. Obviously, I shortened the #hudsonpant pattern to be shorts as well as incorporated a notch in the side hem just to be cute. I hand stitched the eyelets for the waist drawstring and finished off the drawstring with the same embroidery floss and some fray check. . . One other thing I decided to try was lowering the waistband in the front for pregnancy. Otherwise, I would need to fold down the front waistband or the pants will pull and tug in the front because they need to sit so low in comparison to the back. I have about 2 inches of material sewn up into the waistband in the front, that I should be able to let out fairly easily after my big bump is gone. The idea being that I can wear them a little more straight once I have this baby. Time will tell if this plan works out! . . Pockets. Joggers. Boy child. I’ve lost count but I think I’ve made 4, maybe 5 pairs of @jalie_patterns #henrijoggers for my guys. Their favorites are all made with the adventurer ribbed sweater fleece from @surgefabricshop (2 pairs in black, a pair of navy, and a pair of red so far. Plus maybe another that I’m forgetting? Light gray maybe? And they’re asking for more!) They wear them as soon as they get laundered and love picking pocket colors. Day 3 of #memademay2022 🧡 Rainy stay-at-home day today, so I’ll be in my studio finishing some art projects. Perfect day to wear my #hudsonpant joggers! I realized I’ve never shown them on the ‘gram. This is my first attempt, and I’m not in love with the pattern as written. They are a little too low rise for my taste and I’m not a fan of the “diaper” look in the front. But they are very comfy! I would like to make a full length pair and resolve some of the fit issues. I realized that I seldom wear sweats (I just don’t feel “ready” for the day). In my work wardrobe, I am very torn between giving in and wearing scrub-like outfits, and my dislike for wearing anything remotely pajama-like in public. I work at a hospital and 90% of my coworkers are in scrubs. But I can’t deal with seeing myself in matching top/bottoms, it just makes me look tired and ready for bed. These joggers are the closest I’ll get, and I’m in LOVE. I’m still figuring out how to style them. (Have you ever searched on Pinterest “how to dress up joggers” and turned up 15 pictures of white women in jean jackets??) I can’t figure out if I want to wear them to hike, brunch, work, ski, gym, dog walk, or the grocery store? All of the above?! They are #hudsonpants with several mods detailed below. I couldn’t find much information about the difference in fit between the women’s and men’s patterns, and already owned the men’s version. It seems the men’s are drafted longer, higher rise, slightly different pocket shape, maybe narrower hip? They fit me great, though I do have fairly straight hips. They are made from dreamy, super warm, thick but lightweight polar fleece. Only broke one needle on my serger! I am so thankful I made these shorts before it got super hot - they are in heavy rotation right now. Super light and comfy, what more could I ask for? Oh yeah, pockets and slightly oversized! Also, just to note, I am posting frequent birth updates in my stories, so feel free to follow along if that’s your jam. . . I made these maternity #hudsonshorts with the only intent to be to wear them during pregnancy and post-partum. I doubt they will fit in a year and that is totally ok. I sewed them up in a size 16, which was the largest size that I could do with pattern package I purchased. Obviously, I shortened the #hudsonpant pattern to be shorts as well as incorporated a notch in the side hem just to be cute. I hand stitched the eyelets for the waist drawstring and finished off the drawstring with the same embroidery floss and some fray check. . . One other thing I decided to try was lowering the waistband in the front for pregnancy. Otherwise, I would need to fold down the front waistband or the pants will pull and tug in the front because they need to sit so low in comparison to the back. I have about 2 inches of material sewn up into the waistband in the front, that I should be able to let out fairly easily after my big bump is gone. The idea being that I can wear them a little more straight once I have this baby. Time will tell if this plan works out! . . I tried something new today. I made pants!! 🥳 Y’all, I can sew bags for days, but a piece of clothing scares me! 🤣🥴 I’m happy to report that they turned out really good! Especially for my first pair. Pockets. Joggers. Boy child. I’ve lost count but I think I’ve made 4, maybe 5 pairs of @jalie_patterns #henrijoggers for my guys. Their favorites are all made with the adventurer ribbed sweater fleece from @surgefabricshop (2 pairs in black, a pair of navy, and a pair of red so far. Plus maybe another that I’m forgetting? Light gray maybe? And they’re asking for more!) They wear them as soon as they get laundered and love picking pocket colors. Day 3 of #memademay2022 🧡 Rainy stay-at-home day today, so I’ll be in my studio finishing some art projects. Perfect day to wear my #hudsonpant joggers! I realized I’ve never shown them on the ‘gram. This is my first attempt, and I’m not in love with the pattern as written. They are a little too low rise for my taste and I’m not a fan of the “diaper” look in the front. But they are very comfy! I would like to make a full length pair and resolve some of the fit issues. I realized that I seldom wear sweats (I just don’t feel “ready” for the day). I've had lots of questions about drawstrings for the Hudsons over the last few days. I'm always looking for good drawstrings and I've learned a few things over the years. My husband and I have been married for 8 years! And for 8 years, he has told me how he had a green sweat suit when he was a childhood and it was his favorite thing ever. So I’ve been on the hunt for green sweatshirt fabric for quite some time and finally got a chance to use this lime green one from Minerva. We analyzed his favorite sweatpants and sweatshirt in our closet and I picked some similar patterns. For the top, I used Seamwork Paxson, it is a unisex pattern for a sweatshirt with raglan sleeves. I had made it previously and had to make some major modifications for it to work well on my shorter arms and torso, but I knew it would be a good fit for his body type. For the pants, I purchased the mens version of the True Bias Hudson Pants. I’ve wanted to try out this pattern because it seems to be a staple in the sewing community that is very popular. I like the jogger style and he likes a more tapered fit on his sweat pants. I was able to make both patterns without any modifications and they fit him well right out of the gate. I really really like this shade of green. It’s a gifted poly cotton, fleece backed sweatshirt material from @minervadotcom. It has sewn up very well and is incredibly soft. My only complaint is that I have washed it 3 times now and it sheds green fuzz from the inside quite a bit. He’s not planning to really wear this out of the house so I don’t mind too much, but I could see that being bothersome depending on your use for this fabric. I tried to source some green ribbing from local stores and I couldn’t find anything that I was happy with. We were planning to settle with black ribbing for the cuffs and waistbands, but ultimately decided to use up some green ribbing scraps and have fun with it. I was batch sewing some Hudson pants yesterday and made myself a pair out of a hunter green sweatshirt fleece remnant I bought from @needlesharpny. It's a super cozy fabric but a little less stretchy than my last pair. I sized up to a size 6 to accommodate less stretch and a growing waistline. Also to accommodate the vaguely visible bump and it's future growth, I made the elastic a little looser than I normally would and omitted the drawstring and elastic topstitching so I can take them in easily post baby. Me Made May Day 25. We went on a lovely walk to “Horseshoe lake” and had a picnic in the sunshine. The second photo is of the cute ducklings, taken by my daughter. I am wearing my @truebias Hudson pants in a woven fabric. They are made in a viscose fabric and are so comfy and cool to wear in the hot weather. I have put the link to the tutorial I followed in the comments. My T-shirt is a @mariadenmarksewing kimono, this is a free pattern on her website, if you subscribe to her website. It can also be made in a small amount of fabric so a good stash buster.

Combat Huds! My second pair of True Bias Hudson pants in textured crepe jersey from @fabworksmillshop To reduce bulk on the pockets I’ve used a finish I spotted on my RTW Under Armour joggers (swipe for pic) By attaching the pocket cuff to the pant front I omitted the pocket lining, I then coverstitched the pocket bag to the front pant leg from the wrong side. One less pocket layer gives me a cleaner line over the hip/thigh area which I am all for! As the pocket bag is anchored to the pant leg it saves me all that rummaging around and splaying my fingers to unrumple the pocket. Personally, I see no reason why I’d ever want to go back from doing the pocket this way. It would work on a sewing machine too with a twin needle or a zigzag stitch finish. This fabric has much less stretch than the jersey I toiled in, so I sized up - once at the waist, twice at the hip and once on the lower leg. I also added 1 cm on the crotch rise. Having made a sweater dress in this fabric I know it’s warm to wear, so I wanted a looser fit. Finally, the leopard laces. I stole them from my daughters shoes. How low can you go? 😂🤣 In my defence, they’re a spare set from school shoes and she never used them 😬 and hasn’t expressed any upset, so they’re mine. Thought they might be a bit much but I love the touch of claws and fur 🐾 with my floral camo. 🌺 Obviously I need to go and stand before my stash to work out what to make them in next. Even tho it’s stylish, it’s too low waisted for me. I am tempted to hike them up all day. This post is about the #truebiashudsonjoggers. I sized up and widened the cuffs by two inches total since this fabric doesn’t have tons of stretch. I like the little strip of fabric on the pocket. It’s a nice detail. The pockets could be a bit deeper and I definitely could use a cargo pocket for my phone. Or I might add back pockets. Or I might do nothing. I love the pajamas at Target, and I bought these because of their lovely color palette and cute print. 🐆💕 Whenever I was wearing them, I would trip over the legs that would get caught in my birks - especially when going down stairs. I had tried tying up the corners, but they always came undone at the worst times! To address this, I tapered the legs and added an ankle band using the #truebiashudson pattern as reference. And I did initially cut the ankle bands double wide because there was more than enough extra fabric from the original to wrap around my ankles twice!! 😅 Now that I've tweaked them, not only are they super comfy, now they are 100x more wearable. #slowerfashion #refashioned

Today’s work from home attire included #greenstylecreations #powersportsbra paired with #truebiaspatterns #hudsonpants I haven’t ventured into sewing athletic tops yet because I have a gazillion t-shirts from past races (when once upon a time, a group of people gather and run together). Now I think I need to make some tank tops or muscle tees that will show off the lovely garden haze print and the cute strappy backs. The #truebiashudsonpants took awhile to make because I added these moto hacks to the front thighs and also on the back calves. These 1/4”-wide pleats are an inch apart. I also added zippered welt pockets that angle to the front, which supposedly have a more flattering effect, but I just like the placement for my hands. My second pair of True Bias Hudson pants in textured crepe jersey from @fabworksmillshop To reduce bulk on the pockets I’ve used a finish I spotted on my RTW Under Armour joggers (swipe for pic) By attaching the pocket cuff to the pant front I omitted the pocket lining, I then coverstitched the pocket bag to the front pant leg from the wrong side. One less pocket layer gives me a cleaner line over the hip/thigh area which I am all for! As the pocket bag is anchored to the pant leg it saves me all that rummaging around and splaying my fingers to unrumple the pocket. Personally, I see no reason why I’d ever want to go back from doing the pocket this way. It would work on a sewing machine too with a twin needle or a zigzag stitch finish. This fabric has much less stretch than the jersey I toiled in, so I sized up - once at the waist, twice at the hip and once on the lower leg. I also added 1 cm on the crotch rise. Having made a sweater dress in this fabric I know it’s warm to wear, so I wanted a looser fit. Finally, the leopard laces. I stole them from my daughters shoes. How low can you go? 😂🤣 In my defence, they’re a spare set from school shoes and she never used them 😬 and hasn’t expressed any upset, so they’re mine. Thought they might be a bit much but I love the touch of claws and fur 🐾 with my floral camo. 🌺 Obviously I need to go and stand before my stash to work out what to make them in next.
