Biggish scrap busting brought to you by my dearest @darncheapfabrics , specifically the soon-to-be-closed-forever-and-I-may-never-forgive-you-but-thanks-for-the-20% Heidelberg branch 😢😭😩 You may recognize the giant houndstooth (remnant from my #seamworkjill ) as the bodice, and fluffy orange knit (leftover from the #marlosweater ) as the sleeves of the #lindensweatshirt by @grainlinestudio . Both fabrics are used on the ‘wrong’ side for maximal textural stimulation. The feline knit making up this #mnaxel skirt (by @megannielsenpatterns ) is also from DCF. Pic 2 depicts the current store and soon-to-be opened Fitzroy branch - with the current lockdown, another visit prior its demise seems unlikely. I am seized with a daunting sense of loss. Why did I not grab that faux fur? Surely I need another 23 green metal snaps? One could always do with more graphic knits… and WHAT AM I GOING TO DO THE NEXT TIME I NEED TO WHIP UP SOMETHING LAST MINUTE TO UPSTAGE EVERYONE AT WORK AND BOOK WEEK??? 😩☹️😱 So many questions. No answers… only that deep hollow grief echoing back like when you scream into the long toilet roll cardboard of the bolt that held 1.7m when you needed 2. MARLO and ROWAN I made a cropped #marlosweater out of this gold animal print stretch jacquard from @guthrieghani. I originally made the long length, but much preferred the short so unpicked and shortened it. The @megannielsenpatterns #rowanbodysuit in slinky black jersey from @sewoveritlondon is my 3rd go at the rowan. I added 2” at the shoulders for broad shoulders and 5/8” length in the body. It fits perfect 👌🏼 I like the bodysuit as it doesn’t untuck, looks sleek with trousers and works well under dresses. My husband surprised me for my birthday this year and got me a new sewing machine. He had my parents help him find the right one and I ended up with the same make and model my mom has. I LOVE it and have been slowly working on this skirt as my first project on it. It's the #soierinskirt from their first e-book out of a stretch corduroy from @stylemakerfabrics . It was mummy and me cardigan this time round. The perfect little autumn cardigan for the both of us! I used the Marlo cardigan pattern and Lily used the Maple cardigan pattern. I think there will definitely be more use for both patterns in the future! The maple was super quick, easy and straightforward to make because the size of the garment is only so small. The Marlo was a lot more tricky to work with due to the stretch of the fabric coupled with the much larger size of the pattern. I had to interface the entire neck band instead of just interfacing the section where the buttons are, then I had to add a 1.5" wide elastic to the inside of the cuff because it would stretch so much that it won't stay over my elbow when I pull up the sleeves. None of these makes are new but I haven't shared two out of three and all three have been saved with some mending/modifications. First up: these #cnisle corduroy flares. I made them last spring and they needed some taking in through the hips and they may still need some mods through the rise but they fit better than store bought ever do on me so I am wearing them this fall! The #soikittydress blouse hack in #libertytanalawn was made about five years ago and was a little tight across my bust. So, I moved the buttons over (there is a facing, not a placket!) And now, it's much better. And third, the sweater is a #marlosweater by @truebias in a navy rib knit. I originally made it to be worn closed all of the time like my first Marlo. But, the fabric was different enough and I found it just never looked quite right. So, I took the buttons off, made the button holes and put the buttons back on. some fiber arts related things from my NYC trip last week! I didn't end up buying any fabric in the garment district because 1) I'm on a fabric no-buy & 2) I found it all really overwhelming & 3) I didn't find something that fit exactly what I was looking for. (I'm planning a dress to wear to a wedding this autumn which includes a color palette in the dress code for guests so I'm willing to break my no-buy once to get something to match the color palette.) This is my first time going to the Met I'm pretty sure and it was absolutely massive. Marlo Sweater Vest Hack 👌 I really need to improve my photos 📷🤳 but I wanted to share this great little make. It's a lovely throw-on vest, worn here with my favourite Loddon pants by style arc that I shared last month. Details ⬇️ Pattern: #marlosweater from @truebias.  I hacked this into a vest using the instructions on the True Bias blog. Fabric:  1m of lovely beige andorra sweater knit from @higgsandhiggs.  Label: You won’t be surprised to learn that it’s another one from @sewanonymousofficial.  This is definitely my favourite source of labels. Buttons:  From @annies.abbeydale in Sheffield.  Sizing✂️ I can’t remember what size I made but didn’t make any adjustments other than to extend the shoulders slightly to make it sleeveless. I made the cropped length, and it fits perfectly. Construction and Adjustments 🪡 The pattern drafting was perfect, but I struggled with the fabric I’d chosen as it only had one way stretch.  Stupidly, I only realised this when I struggled to get the bands to fit.  I gave up on buttonholes as well and just added the buttons for interest. Final Thoughts 🤔 I love this and have worn it loads since I made it.  It’s a great layering piece to add to my wardrobe, and I really want to make another one in black. Just finished this @truebias #marlosweater in time for the #SewFruity25 challenge set by @blossomsandwich. The strawberry fabric came from@beyond.thepinkdoor. But it’s way too hot to put it on and model it in the UK today! 🥵

Making a @truebias #marlosweater for a special someone. Some knits like to curl. A lot. Even after steam & a clapper. I can’t have these curling up while I’m trying to also topstitch them down on knit. That’s just a lesson in misery. Enter @elmersproducts glue sticks. Quilters figured out using glue well over a decade ago, and wouldn’t you know it? They’re right. It’s washable & just a dab’ll do ya. I’ll also be gluing them into place for top stitching. Sometimes I don’t need the ultra strength of Wonder Tape, just a tap of Elmers.

Some more #MeMadeMay pics - gutted to not fully take part this year on the insta side of things but I’ve been a bit overwhelmed with a million other things to do! That being said, I’m sure I’ve worn something me made every day without particularly trying which is so cool !! even days where I’ve been wearing work uniform during the day, I’ve been wearing me-made pyjamas and stuff so that’s really fun !! This is my entry for #preciousfabric24 I purchased 3 yards of this Tropical Leaves Rayon Poplin fabric from @stylemakerfabrics in 2021 with the intention of making a dress. Well, the dress never got made and I was immobilized about what to do with the fabric. Then Pattern Emporium came out with the Sweet Talker Bubble Sleeve Top and I saw Karina's versions @liftingpinsandneedles on YouTube and I knew that was it! I managed to squeeze the top and a True Bias Mave Skirt out of just under 3 yards. This cold wintery day reminded me to post these photos from a few months ago. Unisex jacket pattern by @simplicity_creative_group #s9388 in size M. The fabric is wool blend from @joann_stores . The fit is nicely oversized fit, perfect over thick sweat underneath. After these photos were taken, I noticed the pocket bottom peaks from the hem when you put your hands in, so I attached it by thread chain to the side seam. I don’t think I will ever tire of the super satisfying ‘cut’ sound at the end of each print 🙌🏻 It has been completely thrilling to get this new A0 pattern printing service up and running and see the orders flooding in! Here is another #memademay A much loved #reznorskirt by @elbe_textiles in a merino blend from @wearethefabricstore I’ve made 2 of these skirts and wear them quite often. They are comfortable and make me feel good. It seems that I make most of Lauren’s patterns twice, they are so well thought out and the instructions are great. A self drafted top in a lovely fabric that I got at @crossandwoods when I visited the Netherlands last year. It was a remnant piece and only 135 cm square, so not a lot to work with. But I loved the print and the colour so I couldn’t leave it behind. And a firm favourite: the #marlosweater by @truebias in an Ochre organic cotton sweatshirting from @wearethefabricstore It is so SO comfortable and I wear it all the time. It’s also the only non knitted cardigan in my closet. Something that I might have to change. Doing #mmmay does help to think about the clothes I’ve got and what I’m missing. #memademay2023

It’s been pretty cold here, around 10-14 C so I haven’t been that inspired to sew summer clothes. Instead I made up these two #MarloSweater from @TrueBias in a heavy sweat shirting. My idea being I could use them to make summer dresses wearable! I made the green one first and thought since it didn’t seem that stretchy, I would add 4cm to each band – the neckband and the waist band. I really needn’t have and didn’t do so to the red one. My conclusion is that the shorter band sits better around the neck on the red one, but I quite like the longer waistband on the green one. I also added 2cm to the wrist cuffs on the green one, but not to the red. I’ve now made about six Marlos, including a few of the longer version. I like both versions, though I find the short one goes with more things like skirts, dresses and high-waisted wide leg trousers. This fabric is a thick brushed sweatshirting of 80% cotton, 20% polyester and I couldn’t get my machine to make buttonholes – even though I had tested successfully. That’s why I ended up using snaps. I have been able to use buttonholes on ‘soft sweat shirting’ in 95% cotton 5% lycra. The tracksuit bottoms are the @modern_sewing_co #mssundaytrackies of which I’ve made three and wear at least once a week. I love the shape and they’re really comfortable. The stripe Tee is the #JacksonTee from @Helens__Closet. I really love this pattern for a loose, casual long-sleeve Tee. It's a brushed back sweatshirting so has a lovely fluffy reverse of the fabric to keep you cozy against the skin. Continuing my quest to use fabric I already own, especially if it involves an upcycle of something I don’t wear. The #marlosweater by @truebias made in an Indian quilted cotton jacquard from @merchantandmills This longer version features a dropped shoulder, deep v-neck and patch pockets. It is supposed to feature large buttons, but I have not found the right ones yet, though I kinda like it without them … thoughts? I used the same fabric for the bindings and made them wider so as to match the size of the fabric square. So it looks and feels more like a kimono jacket … mmh, so cosy! The colour of the fabric is ‘pollen,’ a light pale tan, probably a little lighter than I hoped (as bought online). The fabric probably would’ve suited having lining, given the gauzy open-weave inside, though it does make it feel very snuggly! And whilst quite warm, it actually is light to wear. Will definitely be making this pattern again. Might attempt the cropped version, though I have to say I like this long version. When taking the pics in my local park, I think I may have opened a mysterious portal (last pic) amongst the sheoaks! 🌈

My third day of #memademay2025 ! It's definitely the wrong season for it here in Knoxville, but I just finished the #marlosweater by #truebias. I have had a hankering for a pastel, color block cardigan so I made one. It's in a sweater knit but I can't remember where I got it. If I do I'll post it!

This was meant to be a quick and refreshing project in the midst of a very overwhelming few days. I sat down with my #marlosweater pattern and hack pieces for a nice simple sew; what ensued was an hour and a half of pulling-out-my-hair nonsense after wrong cut after cut, me busily re-imagining how this would work as my available fabric got less and less. Gah! Don’t do a hack in a hurry, folks. I had meant for this to be one solid piece (no seam) and about 2 inches longer, but I immediately cut it too short. Oops! At that point I had enough fabric to remedy things with a simple seam in the upper portion, but then I accidentally cut the back neckline wrong - forgetting to use the hacked neckline piece taken from the #nikkotop pattern*. Same thing with the front! Gah! Anyway, it ended up shorter than I wanted and has a seam across the top but I do love it. The seam is actually prob my fave part - a happy mistake. I’m still debating taking off the bottom ribbing and: a. adding a couple inches more of the sweatshirt fabric (so, another seam mid-sweatshirt) and then reattaching the ribbing or b. adding a couple inches more sweatshirt fabric and hemming it as is (no ribbing). Today I’m wearing the #truebias #marlosweater with a tank top from vintage #mccalls6503 and some RTW shorts. I made a few adjustments to the Marlo. First, I lengthened the sleeves and the bottom hem to coincide with the width that the ribbing would be. I then hemmed the sleeves, but after hemming the bottom of the sweater, I inserted elastic to bring it in. Instead of buttons, I used large sew on snaps. New pattern alert! #talbarrellegtrousers from @theassemblylineshop These are the perfect cropped barrel leg jeans. They barrel out at just the right spots but don’t don’t curve inward on the inseam like some other very popular pattern (the one with an elastic waist). I don’t like how those make me look very bow-legged. They have three options of waistbands: straight, regular and curved. I used the curvy fit option for the back pant legs bc I like the way the extra darts look. (Four vs two). These are barreled out just the right amount in my opinion. There’s been lots of sewing but very little sharing recently so thought I’d start with my latest @truebias Marlo in a beautiful clay pink snug sweater knit from @lamazifabrics . I was inspired by a cardigan I saw on a shopping trip before Christmas (last photo) and found these giant pearl buttons at @newcrafthouse 💕 Pink is not in my usual colour palette but this clay pink is more of a dusty rose - I think the photos are making it more vibrant than it is. I made this @truebias #marlosweater and I am crazy about it. I might never take it off. At least until I make another…. Swipe to see me wearing it. Made view B, a straight size 14. Usually I add about 4” to tops I make, but I didn’t want this quite as long as the pattern was intended so I didn’t add the length it is just how I wanted. I would next time add an inch or so to the sleeves. Fabric is from @marshallfabrics. I don’t know what it is other than that it came from the sweater knit section. I made another one! This is my third #marlosweater by @truebias I love this pattern. Such a quick make and it can be made in so many different fabrics. This is a very stretchy lightweight rib knit from deep in the stash. I think it came from @darncheapfabrics but I can’t be 100%. My green one I made was a size 10 and I LOVE it but it was annoying with the sleeves for me, this is a straight size 6 made with a 6.5mm seam allowance straight through my overlocker. Day 8 #MeMadeMay and I’m taking myself on a date to the movies. It may be warm outside, but I am always freezing in the theatre. So, my Marlo sweater from @truebias is perfect. This is the first #marlosweater I ever made, basically a #wearablemuslin since it is made from a lightweight rib knit I’ve had in my stash for at least a dozen years. It’s a great light layer for a cold-natured person like me. This is the shorter version of the Marlo and it really can double as a top all on its own. Heavily influenced by the amazing @rhian_wyn_ and her wonderful collection of SA Hopes I decided to experiment and use this jersey cord to make another @stylearc #sahopewovendress . I sized down and used clear elastic to join the bodice to the skirt as I was worried it would be too heavy. It’s super comfy and I think will be great when the weather warms up and I can wear it with trainers. Today I wore the second @truebias #rioringertshirt made using the @guthrieghani sewing society kit. There was enough white ribbing to make contrast cuffs and neckband. The fabric is less stretchy than the white so this one is a better fit I think. After a morning coffee, a stroll past some giant Easter eggs we visited the Roman Bishops Basilica and the Small Basilica. These are full of fantastic mosaics. Plovdiv is full of surprises! I finally purchased the Riley Overalls from True Bias, not sure why it took me so long. I love to wear overalls, so this seems like a perfect match for my style. This pattern was so fun to sew, the instructions are so well written and easy to follow. I made a size 8, except at the waist I I set by to a 10. For the length I did add 2 inches and that easy just right. From the leftover fabric, which came from Joann Fabrics I made a pair for my youngest granddaughter. I used Kwik Sew 3145 and I sewed this little overalls in an afternoon. I realized after I took the photos, my entire outfit is from True Bias! I also purchased the hardware for my overalls at True Bias. The Dani in lightweight corduroy.⁠ ⁠ As much as I love the Dani pattern sewn up in light weight linens and crepes during the summer, I equally love it sewn up in a light to medium weight corduroy for the colder months. I made this pair a couple years ago as part of a capsule wardrobe and have enjoyed wearing them paired with Nikko tops and sweaters like the Marlo. Har laga ruter for om eg har mønster og stoff i hus også, og ei siste rute for gjennomført✅ Eg har eitt nytt mønster eg har lyst å kjøpe og har ikkje planar om å kjøpe fleire enn det mønsteret, ut april. 😅 I tillegg kjem eg i større grad til å bestille stoffprøver før eg handlar stoff på nett, for å vere sikker på fargetone. #MarloSweater is finished. Size 10, short version lengthened 2" Fabric: #FabricanaFabrics left over from a Toaster Sweater 2, made 3 years ago Ribbing: @oursocialfabric Label: @little.rosy.cheeks "I Made This" Sewing notes: Did the intermediate method of the enclosed seams neckband. I like that clean finish. Buttonholes: I had problems with them and I appreciate all the advice I got when I asked for tips in my stories. I did learn something new about my new Pfaff 710 - it has a special knit buttonhole that is less dense. I also reduced the presser foot pressure. So the top two buttonholes went well, but not the bottom due to the seam allowance bump inside. Got part way and it jammed, so I had to unpick. 😩 So I put the regular presser foot on and did 2 rows of zigzag stitches, left the tails long and used them to hand-sew the bar tacks. I learned this from @sewmuchfashion who used this for a jeans waistband buttonhole. Pregnancy wardrobe - Part 1 @megannielsenpatterns #MNErin Skirt I feel like there are not a lot of cute pregnancy skirt patterns out there. The Erin skirt however is an exception. I've had it on the radar since it first came out. It's a quick and simple sew. The only challenge here was this heavy cotton knit fabric that had a lot less stretch than recommended. To accommodate that I sized up two sizes and added some width at the centre front and back. Now it fits like a glove, which however means that I won't be able to wear it for much longer. As for the style, it is very figure-hugging, something I love on others, but feel a little bit out of my comfort zone in, so I haven't worn it much. It's probably only a matter of styling though. ✨Make Nine 2024 Review✨ ⁣ ⁣ I’m really pleased that this year I have managed to complete all of the projects in my #makenine2024 plans. There was a point when I thought I might not finish them but managed to finish 4 in the last 3 months. ⁣ ⁣ The first grid shows photos of my nine finished makes and the second grid shows the plans I had made. Of course I couldn’t go on holiday without making my vacation fits! First up was an ode to @truebias as I wore a Darla jumpsuit and Marlo cardigan. The jumpsuit, in a bold Merchant and Mills linen from @oakfabrics, has a zippered back (view C), and I added 3 inches to the hem to make it floor-sweeping. Marlo was my first time sewing a sweater, but won’t be my last. My fabric choice was merino wool also from Oak Fabrics, and I made view B with the side slit hack (which is brilliant!). I debated the buttons to use, but super pleased with my choice of heavy gold, organically wavy shank buttons - cardigan jewelry! Another one from the archives. Here’s my first #truebiasmarlo in a boiled wool viscose blend I bought very early on in my sewing career because it was 15% off with ZERO plans to use it😂 that darn scarcity mindset. Anyway this fabric is veryyy close to the bottom of the stretch requirements, maybe even below it, and it took a lot of tugging to get the button band where it needed to be. I think because of that, the part around my neck sticks up a bit so maybe someday I’ll take a wedge out at center back but it really doesn’t bother me while I’m wearing it. I also think I put the bottom buttonhole a hair too high because it pulls funny while buttoned. My only mod was to match the width of the sleeve band to the sleeve width so I could get a slouchier vibe. I will probably do this to the hem band next time too. I’ve already worn it quite a bit but the fabric is pretty itchy next to my skin so it is purely a layering piece. Me Made May Day 7 First week done, it's going quickly! It's still chilly so layers again. The cardigan is the @truebias Marlo. The dress is the Davenport by @fridaypatterncompanypatterns The dress is an old make. I made it just before Christmas a few years ago and I didn't have enough fabric for the ruffle. So I improvised and used a coordiating colour for the shoulder ruffles, belt, skirt tier and yoke. I didn't love it, so I never wore it again (see grid for photo) So, I ordered a small piece of fabric to change the skirt ruffle. This sat on my to do pile for way too long, so this weekend, along with a few other repairs I've got it finished. A muslin of the Marlo sweater. Horrible lightweight jersey that came with a twist in the grainline line so I really lost most of the yardage. nonetheless I sewed this to the pattern with only the addition of 2 inches to the length (the pattern is built to 5'5" model) and 1" to the sleeve. It was easy to sew, the pattern pieces fit together really well, and I enjoyed it. no way am I going to put buttons on this! #truebiasmarlo #sewover50

Pink thread on the overlocker and I could whip up the #tessutipatterns Alice top from just around a metre piece from @creative.community.space when I lined it with an old pillowcase. Boosted by the win I thought I’d “whip up” a tnt #truebiasmarlo because the overlocker was already pink. Easy peasy until trying the buttonholes on thick rib. Had to take off the first neckband because after unpicking several buttonholes (argh) I realised my blue chalk lines would not come out. Back for extra rib @rathdownefabrics and many practises with tension, foot pressure, length, width and they are good enough. Took so long. This is the first #marlosweater I ever made, basically a #wearablemuslin since it is made from a lightweight rib knit I’ve had in my stash for at least a dozen years. It’s a great light layer for a cold-natured person like me. This is the shorter version of the Marlo and it really can double as a top all on its own. This cardigan is a handy layering piece but I think I put the top buttonhole in the wrong place or messed up the button band because there's all this strain around that top button. It bugs me when I wear it but I'm not sure how to resolve. A @truebias pattern and the rust-coloured sweatshirt fleece is from @fabricgodmother. (There's no photo of day 4, I felt rough. While I don’t suffer from endometriosis myself, I think it’s a demonstration of the sexism that’s been baked into our society that we have no cure or even an idea why it happens for something that 1 in 10 women live with daily and that can take years to even diagnose. I firmly believe that if men were in that level of pain and living with those complications- we would have addressed it sooner. We need to do better. #memademay2022 Day 2. So this is the ever popular Marlo Cardigan as a sweatshirt. I battle big time trying to find sweatshirts. I don’t want a gangster statement oversize one, but nor do I want a teeny tiny belly button reveal cropped sweat from ASOS. Why is it so hard? I love the fit of the Marlo. So hacked the front piece. As I drafted the front I had total respect for the pattern drafting that makes this such a good fit. It’s important you use the fronts (not back), join them and allow the extra for the placket and shape out your preferred neckline. For the actual neckband I allow seam allowance, but take 10-20% of the total measurement around my neckline depending on stretch. This was non-stretchy French Terry, so just 10%. Swipe to see my pattern piece. I’m really happy with it. It works well with skirts, jeans etc and avoids the hours of shopping and unethical labour of some RTW brands. So whilst it’s not the most exciting make, it’s a more important one. Pattern: Marlo Cardigan @truebias in size 4 (sized down from 8). Two ways to wear a Marlo Sweater 😂 Scroll to picture 6 to see how I found little miss trying it on this morning. I finished my second cropped True Bias Marlo Sweater the other week, and immediately started wearing it. My woredrobe was in serious need of an upgraded 'matches' everything cardi, since a couple of my favourite ones disintegrated on me earlier in the year and some of my older ones just drive me bananas now. I really think this is going to get alot of love. I am still not certain this cardigan is the best use of these gorgeous buttons, I feel like they just get lost in the texture so I may swap them out one day if I find a better project for them. New pattern alert! #talbarrellegtrousers from @theassemblylineshop These are the perfect cropped barrel leg jeans. They barrel out at just the right spots but don’t don’t curve inward on the inseam like some other very popular pattern (the one with an elastic waist). I don’t like how those make me look very bow-legged. They have three options of waistbands: straight, regular and curved. I used the curvy fit option for the back pant legs bc I like the way the extra darts look. (Four vs two). These are barreled out just the right amount in my opinion. There’s been lots of sewing but very little sharing recently so thought I’d start with my latest @truebias Marlo in a beautiful clay pink snug sweater knit from @lamazifabrics . I was inspired by a cardigan I saw on a shopping trip before Christmas (last photo) and found these giant pearl buttons at @newcrafthouse 💕 Pink is not in my usual colour palette but this clay pink is more of a dusty rose - I think the photos are making it more vibrant than it is. I reprinted the pattern and sized down to a 12 for this version which is much more wearable than my bigger ones. #memademay2022 day 8. Sports. Hard to get an exciting photo of run tops. I’ve searched high and low for long run tops.. Anyone else? Anyone found good patterns? I would never voluntarily go out of my house in a Lycra catsuit and yet it seems that every run shop sells run clothes with that aim in mind. I don’t really fancy 8.30am chats on the school run with all the wobbly bits on show, so I make my own long sweats and tees. This Tee is based on my RTW copy extended by about 30cm for good butt cover. See grid (white tee, denim jacket and skirt) for details. It’s in the same lush bamboo jersey from @raystitch which doesn’t pill, doesn’t spoil in a million washes and ‘breathes’. I made this @truebias #marlosweater and I am crazy about it. I might never take it off. At least until I make another…. Swipe to see me wearing it. Made view B, a straight size 14. Usually I add about 4” to tops I make, but I didn’t want this quite as long as the pattern was intended so I didn’t add the length it is just how I wanted. I would next time add an inch or so to the sleeves. Fabric is from @marshallfabrics. I don’t know what it is other than that it came from the sweater knit section. I had about a metre of fabric left over from another project I started in the @sewconfidentdundee studio and managed to squeeze this short version out of it! I had to make a few adjustments as it’s all woven fabric but think it turned out quite cute!! True Bias Marlo Sweater: I have always loved this pattern as the style is something I wear. However, the stretch percentage requirement put me off making it for a while as I wasn’t sure what material to buy. In the end, I opted for a French Ferry in caramel brown from #poundfabrics . I bought two metres at £9PM. I made the cropped version in a size 10 and have just under half a metre left I think. The fabric felt a bit thin at first but I am pleased with how it has turned out. A nice layer or summer weight cardi. It was easy to sew and came together quickly. I also reinforced the shoulder seams with ribbon. The button holes did take me awhile as my main machine just hated this fabric. I tried everything, so decided to swap over to my old Brother and do four step button holes. Not my favourite method as I don’t think they look as neat (on my machine or when I do them). The buttons were gifted. Label from from Amazon. I’d definitely make this pattern again and won’t be as worried about the stretch requirements as it’s oversized anyway. You do need some stretch mainly around the neck. I printed the pdf pattern at home and wouldn’t recommend that you do that as it was 58 pages of A4 😂. I’m happy to share my makes for the @stylemakerfabrics Fall Inspiration…! I was drawn to the Layered Spits Cotton Modal Jersey Knit in Ocean and love that there was a nice color match in the Confetti Speckled Sweatshjrt Fleece in the Ocean color. Both fabrics are soft with vivid colors and washed and dried well. I sewed up a @truebias outfit with the Zoey Dress and the longer length Marlo Sweater. I love wearing knit dresses and thought the cotton modal jersey has a good balance of drape and structure for the Zoey Dress. I wanted a matching cardigan for the cooler months to wear with my dress and picked the Marlo Sweater but opted to not put sleeve cuffs and instead rolled the sleeves. I also haven’t put buttons and buttonholes on my Marlo and may choose to later. I think my outfit will carry well into fall and is suitable for a work outfit for my office. Yay. Today I’m wearing the #truebias #marlosweater with a tank top from vintage #mccalls6503 and some RTW shorts. I made a few adjustments to the Marlo. First, I lengthened the sleeves and the bottom hem to coincide with the width that the ribbing would be. I then hemmed the sleeves, but after hemming the bottom of the sweater, I inserted elastic to bring it in. Instead of buttons, I used large sew on snaps. True Bias Marlo Sweater: I have always loved this pattern as the style is something I wear. However, the stretch percentage requirement put me off making it for a while as I wasn’t sure what material to buy. In the end, I opted for a French Ferry in caramel brown from #poundfabrics . I bought two metres at £9PM. I made the cropped version in a size 10 and have just under half a metre left I think. The fabric felt a bit thin at first but I am pleased with how it has turned out. A nice layer or summer weight cardi. It was easy to sew and came together quickly. I also reinforced the shoulder seams with ribbon. The button holes did take me awhile as my main machine just hated this fabric. I tried everything, so decided to swap over to my old Brother and do four step button holes. Not my favourite method as I don’t think they look as neat (on my machine or when I do them). The buttons were gifted. Label from from Amazon. I’d definitely make this pattern again and won’t be as worried about the stretch requirements as it’s oversized anyway. You do need some stretch mainly around the neck. I printed the pdf pattern at home and wouldn’t recommend that you do that as it was 58 pages of A4 😂. I would never voluntarily go out of my house in a Lycra catsuit and yet it seems that every run shop sells run clothes with that aim in mind. I don’t really fancy 8.30am chats on the school run with all the wobbly bits on show, so I make my own long sweats and tees. This Tee is based on my RTW copy extended by about 30cm for good butt cover. See grid (white tee, denim jacket and skirt) for details. New pattern alert! #talbarrellegtrousers from @theassemblylineshop These are the perfect cropped barrel leg jeans. They barrel out at just the right spots but don’t don’t curve inward on the inseam like some other very popular pattern (the one with an elastic waist). I don’t like how those make me look very bow-legged. They have three options of waistbands: straight, regular and curved. I used the curvy fit option for the back pant legs bc I like the way the extra darts look. (Four vs two). These are barreled out just the right amount in my opinion. I made another one! This is my third #marlosweater by @truebias I love this pattern. Such a quick make and it can be made in so many different fabrics. This is a very stretchy lightweight rib knit from deep in the stash. I think it came from @darncheapfabrics but I can’t be 100%. This was meant to be a quick and refreshing project in the midst of a very overwhelming few days. I sat down with my #marlosweater pattern and hack pieces for a nice simple sew; what ensued was an hour and a half of pulling-out-my-hair nonsense after wrong cut after cut, me busily re-imagining how this would work as my available fabric got less and less. Gah! Don’t do a hack in a hurry, folks. I had meant for this to be one solid piece (no seam) and about 2 inches longer, but I immediately cut it too short. Oops! At that point I had enough fabric to remedy things with a simple seam in the upper portion, but then I accidentally cut the back neckline wrong - forgetting to use the hacked neckline piece taken from the #nikkotop pattern*. Same thing with the front! Gah! Anyway, it ended up shorter than I wanted and has a seam across the top but I do love it. The seam is actually prob my fave part - a happy mistake. I’m still debating taking off the bottom ribbing and: a. adding a couple inches more of the sweatshirt fabric (so, another seam mid-sweatshirt) and then reattaching the ribbing or b. adding a couple inches more sweatshirt fabric and hemming it as is (no ribbing). Today I wore the second @truebias #rioringertshirt made using the @guthrieghani sewing society kit. There was enough white ribbing to make contrast cuffs and neckband. The fabric is less stretchy than the white so this one is a better fit I think. After a morning coffee, a stroll past some giant Easter eggs we visited the Roman Bishops Basilica and the Small Basilica. These are full of fantastic mosaics. Plovdiv is full of surprises! Finally finished off the button holes on my latest Marlo cardi. After unpicking the same button hole for a third time I did a practice button hole then decided to try a new needle. Seemed to do the trick! Fabric was from @backstitchshop it did leave little bits all over the house while I was sewing it. Because of this I chose to encase the seams for the hem band and neckband to keep things neat as I don’t have an over locker. I zig zagged the side seams and all the arm seams. There’s been lots of sewing but very little sharing recently so thought I’d start with my latest @truebias Marlo in a beautiful clay pink snug sweater knit from @lamazifabrics . I was inspired by a cardigan I saw on a shopping trip before Christmas (last photo) and found these giant pearl buttons at @newcrafthouse 💕 Pink is not in my usual colour palette but this clay pink is more of a dusty rose - I think the photos are making it more vibrant than it is. I reprinted the pattern and sized down to a 12 for this version which is much more wearable than my bigger ones. First makes of 2024! And I'm hoping that these images may inspire you to hack a pattern to release your creativity. The first version is the original pattern without any adjustments (apart from lengthening the cropped version by 1.5inches). Scroll through to see the third image - which is a scrap buster of mittens made from the blue fabric. Although I do look like I'm nursing a sore paw.... 🤣 The second version has no button stand, adding grosgrain ribbon to strengthen the button placements, extending the centre front to the collarbone, and adding a necktie which is part of the cardigan for extra cosiness. I’m happy to share my makes for the @stylemakerfabrics Fall Inspiration…! I was drawn to the Layered Spits Cotton Modal Jersey Knit in Ocean and love that there was a nice color match in the Confetti Speckled Sweatshjrt Fleece in the Ocean color. Both fabrics are soft with vivid colors and washed and dried well. I sewed up a @truebias outfit with the Zoey Dress and the longer length Marlo Sweater. I love wearing knit dresses and thought the cotton modal jersey has a good balance of drape and structure for the Zoey Dress. I wanted a matching cardigan for the cooler months to wear with my dress and picked the Marlo Sweater but opted to not put sleeve cuffs and instead rolled the sleeves. I also haven’t put buttons and buttonholes on my Marlo and may choose to later. I think my outfit will carry well into fall and is suitable for a work outfit for my office. Yay. #memademay2022 Day 2. So this is the ever popular Marlo Cardigan as a sweatshirt. I battle big time trying to find sweatshirts. I don’t want a gangster statement oversize one, but nor do I want a teeny tiny belly button reveal cropped sweat from ASOS. Why is it so hard? I love the fit of the Marlo. So hacked the front piece. As I drafted the front I had total respect for the pattern drafting that makes this such a good fit. It’s important you use the fronts (not back), join them and allow the extra for the placket and shape out your preferred neckline. For the actual neckband I allow seam allowance, but take 10-20% of the total measurement around my neckline depending on stretch. This was non-stretchy French Terry, so just 10%. Swipe to see my pattern piece. I’m really happy with it. It works well with skirts, jeans etc and avoids the hours of shopping and unethical labour of some RTW brands. So whilst it’s not the most exciting make, it’s a more important one. Pattern: Marlo Cardigan @truebias in size 4 (sized down from 8). Two ways to wear a Marlo Sweater 😂 Scroll to picture 6 to see how I found little miss trying it on this morning. I finished my second cropped True Bias Marlo Sweater the other week, and immediately started wearing it. My woredrobe was in serious need of an upgraded 'matches' everything cardi, since a couple of my favourite ones disintegrated on me earlier in the year and some of my older ones just drive me bananas now. I really think this is going to get alot of love. Usually I add about 4” to tops I make, but I didn’t want this quite as long as the pattern was intended so I didn’t add the length it is just how I wanted.
