New dress! This is sort of a @truebias #lododress but I’ve omitted the darts and added little grown on sleeves. I also split the front into two halves, cutting half on the bias, so that I could play with the stripe that runs through this fabric. This fabric came from @lafinchfabrics_new It reminded me of a shirt dress my grandmother used to wear in the 70s, while chain smoking and having a cocktail. It’s #memademay2025 which means I’m back at my mirror selfies. The world has felt kind of dark so I wanted to stitch up some happy. I tend to gravitate to a sewing pattern and make it in multiples. I love the modern shape of the Lodo dress pattern. It's perfect sewn up in a structured knit like a ponte which really helps hold the structure of the dress. This pattern has been around for while, but it's still one of my favorites for it's sleek look and easy sew.⁠ #lododress

Loving this Lodo dress by Kayla @kctarey_handmade. The Lodo has been around for awhile, but I am always draw to it's slightly cocoon shape. I think it makes an otherwise basic tshirt dress feel more modern. Kayla sewed this one up in a viscose nylon ponte from her shop @surgefabricshop. Can you even call yourself a sewist if you aren’t making something new the night before a big event? In this case, it was for my college reunion this past weekend. Fortunately, I had the foresight to photograph the dress before I left home. ••• Pattern: @truebias True Bias Lodo Dress, view A with back slit Fabric: medium-weight, stable knit (a textured black/gold poly blend) from a Deborah Parker studio sale in April 2016; crisp pima cotton in gold for the facings, also from the deep stash Label: @kylieandthemachine Mods: shortened 3 in. because the pattern is drafted for someone who’s 5 ft. 5 in. Total cost: $12 for 1.5 yards of fabric Notes: The features that drew me to this pattern are its “subtle cocoon shape,” “flattering deep V-neck,” and “extended cap sleeve.” I’ve also never finished a knit neckline and armholes with a woven facing, which was challenging, but it adds stability and structure. 100% satisfied with the results! I’ve been thinking on where to photograph my new merino Lodo Dress, and this morning I was driving by this cute graveyard I see a dozen times a week and it looked especially lovely today with all those purple flowers. It’s an old (for here) graveyard and their preference is to do as little grooming as possible to maintain a very natural feel - there’s even a sign outside it asking that visitors do not do anything to take away from it’s almost-overgrown vibe. After school I asked my son if he’d take some pics there with me and he agreed. The way the light diffused through the trees made these photos turn out almost ethereal! This dress just feels so good on my body and I still have a bunch of this merino left, so I might even make another Nova Jumpsuit from it. Yesterday I also got to help a few sewists new to sewing and recommend all the fabrics to pick out a colder weather fabric and pattern matchup! On the cutting table... Ponte De Roma solids! A double knit tri blend knit- this is a nylon rayon spandex and is opaque, excellent recovery, great for structured garments, and perfect for top and bottom patterns that require a double knit. I showcased a pattern that was on the Sewing Lab wall of indie patterns to show how ponte would look for a dress. The lodo dress by @truebias is perfect and on the cover is a ponte. (An LA Finch old school deadstock gem- who else has this ponte from back in the day! So this is the result of two weekends + several additional evenings of sewing. I initially wanted to use this for a #m7969 because the image of these stripes, cut on the bias, for that faux wrap bodice really was making me swoon, but try as I might I cannot get that pattern to fit me right :(. The first attempt was two big. I made adjustments, and then it was way too small! I had to order more fabric to recut the bodice. When it arrived? I recut it and this time it was both too big and too small and I’d tried to turn it into an actual wrap. I adjusted it again and it fit — YAY — but then when adding a button hole on the side, to thread the tie through, I completely mangled the fabric. There was no saving it. I actually had to cut the dress out of the machine. I may have cried. I wadded the whole thing up and tossed it in a corner. But I couldn’t stop thinking of these cheerful colors and decided to salvage the fabric and make a simple, no frills shift with grown on sleeves. To get pieces big enough to cut out my pattern I had to piece scraps together. I like the contrast of the vertical and horizontal stripes, though, so I’m ok with that. The dress I’ve wanted to make for a year now!! I went back and forth on my color choice in that time, but ultimately decided on this Rosy Mauve color. Are you surprised? Or is this expected from me by now? 😂 I used my favorite viscose nylon ponte blend from @surgefabricshop and the @truebias #LodoDress to make this. I wasn’t sure how this silhouette would look on me because of my 🍐 shape. But I actually really like it! I did blend sizes going from a size 8 bust to a 14 hip and I was happily surprised by how smoothly I did this as I didn’t have to go in and resew the hip area like I often have to. I also sewing this completely on my domestic machine, not finishing any of the raw edges. It felt a little wrong, but in a liberating way! The evolution of a dress…from fabric to event. I made my first @truebias #lododress, and it won’t be my last. Super-simple sew and so comfortable. #memademay2024 Here's my newest one: a @truebias #lododress in darkish red ponte. That's a #deepstash fabric - meaning mystery origin and mystery composition, bought back when my only criteria for choosing fabric were color/pattern and price. It feels synthetic though, so not exactly great for hot days. I realized how much fabric I really have when I had to move it and it's *a lot* so I've been trying to use more of it instead of buying yet more fabric. The first picture shows how it is after altering it. It turned out way too oversized for my liking so I had to take it in a lot. Took a poll in my stories asking what to make next, and I listened to exactly no one. Because if there's anything I know about myself, it's that I'm going to do exactly the opposite of what I should do in most situations. 🌻 The weather has transitioned in a mighty way. So there’s that. Back to my Lodos.. Hot pink is not a color I typically buy/wear for myself. This fabric must’ve been left over from something I made for someone else.. So this piece has been in my stash for awhile. I’m so glad I found some good use for it..I love this color on me. It’s a stable knit but pretty light weight and it has some texture from @DiscountFabricOutlet. This is in a straight size 14. No mods. Made with all of 1 yard. Our Pattern of the Month for December was the Lodo cocoon jersey dress from True Bias. I made our sample using our luxury ponteroma fabric and did the longer length with a slit at the back. ❤️ The facings are made from a contrasting woven cotton fabric and giving it an added stability. It was simple to make and as most of the seams needed to be pressed open the stretchy Gutermann Maraflex sewing thread was perfect. ❤️ This is a great pattern that can be worn in the summer and layered up for the winter. ❤️ #lododress #lododresspattern #truebiaspatterns #truebiaslododress #ponteroma

🐈‍⬛ // Day 12 of #memademay2023 cooling off at the mall in this #lododress that I haven’t worn since I was 9 months pregnant 2 years ago. I remember that was an equally hot day and I felt so uncomfortable in it. What a difference not being pregnant makes 😅 (duh) I feel so much more comfortable, though some things still bug me - like the stiffness of the fabric (recommended for this pattern) and the V-shape of the neckline. I love the sleeves and the fit though, so it’s likely I will modify the neckline (to a crew, or to a shallower V) and try this again in a cotton jersey instead! TRYING to capture the awesome cocoon shape on this #LodoDress ✔️ Lodo Dress from @TrueBias, size 12 overall, size 0 v-neck ✔️ Bamboo/cotton french terry in Pine @BlackbirdFabrics Sewing notes 🧵 This dress really won me over. I confess I was skeptical: only TWO pattern pieces for the main fabric (and three for facings)? woven facings for knit self fabric?! Yes to both. This pattern is quietly great, thoughtfully drafted and creatively constructed. Some things I created in late December 2020 include the birth of my second child; an emotional maelstrom in my first child (see: newborn baby sibling); and a draft of a knitting pattern for a sweater, which I am knitting here while nursing my newborn son at night, by the creepy red glow of a headlamp. I do a lot of applied statistics in my daily life and one day I wanted a math problem that didn't have anything to do with work or my PhD so I knit up a little gauge swatch and determined how I'd make a crew neckline at particular dimensions, from the top down and in the round and steeked, as I wanted to use self-striping yarn and to knit a continuous tube for the whole sweater, including on either side of the neck. I rang in the New Year last night like this, listening to Philadelphia's fireworks and cow bells from my bedroom, my son and my knitting crammed in my lap, my headlamp's red bulb casting a weird pall. . Last year on New Year's Eve I was in the midst of a protracted miscarriage that concluded with surgery in the early weeks of 2020. As much as 2020 was a grindstone year with inauspicious beginnings that profoundly exhausted my partner and I, not to mention our older son, the fact of this birth only 12 months after a painful loss has absolutely reoriented and uplifted me. I am trying to better embrace and observe - borrowing words from artist Gabi Abrão (@sighswoon) - the ways I've shape-shifted, adapted and evolved as a result of this strange year. Not all the shape-shifts are bad. . With full-time work, study, simultaneous childcare to a toddler for most of the year, and a pregnancy, I did not engage much in my beloved hand crafts in 2020. I wasn't sure if this would fit well over this baby, but it actually fit perfectly with the stretch of the fabric! I was so comfy and cool in today's hot weather. #Refashioned Lodo Shirt, and peep my new earrings from @Jane.AndJuly! 😍 I loved the chevrons in the original dress (swipe to see—heeeeeyyy, 2019), but after a few years of wear, the hems were yellowed, the shape was meh, and the polyester lining was staticky. 🧵 The #LodoDress pattern is not made for woven fabrics, but its simple lines were a good match for letting the chevrons shine. I lined it with a rayon lining, pieces cut identically to the self fabric. 🧵 Verdict: it's tight around the arms (again, not for wovens), and the pristine white at the neck and armholes will wilt quickly in this Texas humidity. 🌻 My new favorite “T-Shirt Dress” pattern!! I first made this dress over a year ago in a burnt orange dimple knit. Well I’m finally getting back around to making it again and I’m hooked. It takes about 1.5-2 yards of fabric but I’ve actually even made a couple tunics that took about 1 yard. I’ve had so many 1-2yards pieces of fabric that I didn’t really know what to do with and then 1 day I sewed up 3 dresses in a day. I actually did some bulk pattern cutting.. so you’ll be seeing a lot of this dress in the coming weeks. It has 2 main pattern pieces and 3 facing pieces. The neckline is a little deep so I made an adjustment in several makes. After reading some descriptions in other people’s makes, I’ll be making the rest of my makes by using a smaller size for the neckline. Thank you genius sewing community! This beautiful fabric is a designer fabric remnant that I got from @habermanfabrics. And look at the side seam.. I didn’t even try to pattern match. This is a size 14. I think I shortened it a little based on the length of my fabric. The only thing this pattern is missing is pockets 😉. Here’s another tried and tested pattern that I hacked. Lodo dress from True Bias chopped into a banded top. This is my go to pattern for remnant knits 😍 Anyone else obsessed with the little dots from hand sewing? I know I am! Swipe right for the 2nd pic where I hand sewed the facing down. Used to shy away from hand sewing as it felt tedious, but soon realise that it’s makes a big difference to the outfits. I like how it gives more control to how the fabric lay against each other, particularly for hems. I usually accumulate all the pending hand sewing, put a movie on and work through the stitches. I’ve been on a sewing kick lately - finishing school reignited the sewing fire and I’ve made a whole bunch of things since. Today’s finish - a woven line tee. I took my Toddler dress bodice, added the cap sleeves cut on the bias from the #mbrtrillium dress, and then used the neckline from the #truebiaslodo and got this. I wish I had cut it a couple of inches longer - this turned out a little shorter than I anticipated and so I didn’t have any length to spare to true up the hem line and in fact I even did a bias finish for the hem to preserve every bit of length I had. I’ll do that differently next time, but otherwise I love how it turned out. Fully lined in handkerchief weight linen, it has a really lovely weight to it while still being airy and light. Loving this Lodo dress by Kayla @kctarey_handmade. The Lodo has been around for awhile, but I am always draw to it's slightly cocoon shape. I think it makes an otherwise basic tshirt dress feel more modern. Kayla sewed this one up in a viscose nylon ponte from her shop @surgefabricshop. Fortunately, I had the foresight to photograph the dress before I left home. ••• Pattern: @truebias True Bias Lodo Dress, view A with back slit Fabric: medium-weight, stable knit (a textured black/gold poly blend) from a Deborah Parker studio sale in April 2016; crisp pima cotton in gold for the facings, also from the deep stash Label: @kylieandthemachine Mods: shortened 3 in. because the pattern is drafted for someone who’s 5 ft. 5 in. Total cost: $12 for 1.5 yards of fabric Notes: The features that drew me to this pattern are its “subtle cocoon shape,” “flattering deep V-neck,” and “extended cap sleeve.” I’ve also never finished a knit neckline and armholes with a woven facing, which was challenging, but it adds stability and structure. 100% satisfied with the results! I had a friend’s bday dinner in the city this weekend so I decided to try a true bias lodo dress! I made the toile of a black jersey from Joanne, and I had graded the hips too wide. So for my final version I resized and made it with this lovely olive raylon/nylon ponte knit from @stonemountainfabric #truebiaslododress #truebiaslodo. I styled it with an obi belt. It was a pretty quick sew, and I think I could do another from a woven! I like it a lot and hope to wear them both a bunch!

Fortunately, I had the foresight to photograph the dress before I left home. ••• Pattern: @truebias True Bias Lodo Dress, view A with back slit Fabric: medium-weight, stable knit (a textured black/gold poly blend) from a Deborah Parker studio sale in April 2016; crisp pima cotton in gold for the facings, also from the deep stash Label: @kylieandthemachine Mods: shortened 3 in. because the pattern is drafted for someone who’s 5 ft. 5 in. Total cost: $12 for 1.5 yards of fabric Notes: The features that drew me to this pattern are its “subtle cocoon shape,” “flattering deep V-neck,” and “extended cap sleeve.” I’ve also never finished a knit neckline and armholes with a woven facing, which was challenging, but it adds stability and structure. 100% satisfied with the results! 🌻 Lodos.. Today is mauve. This is a straight size 14 with a rounded V-neckline. I made a hoodie dress for someone awhile back and I had this small piece of fabric leftover. Not a color I would buy/wear for myself but I’m happy to get some use out of it. I left the hem raw. 🌻 My new favorite “T-Shirt Dress” pattern!! I first made this dress over a year ago in a burnt orange dimple knit. Well I’m finally getting back around to making it again and I’m hooked. It takes about 1.5-2 yards of fabric but I’ve actually even made a couple tunics that took about 1 yard. I’ve had so many 1-2yards pieces of fabric that I didn’t really know what to do with and then 1 day I sewed up 3 dresses in a day. I actually did some bulk pattern cutting.. so you’ll be seeing a lot of this dress in the coming weeks. It has 2 main pattern pieces and 3 facing pieces. The neckline is a little deep so I made an adjustment in several makes. After reading some descriptions in other people’s makes, I’ll be making the rest of my makes by using a smaller size for the neckline. Thank you genius sewing community! This beautiful fabric is a designer fabric remnant that I got from @habermanfabrics. And look at the side seam.. I didn’t even try to pattern match. This is a size 14. I think I shortened it a little based on the length of my fabric. The only thing this pattern is missing is pockets 😉. Our Pattern of the Month for December was the Lodo cocoon jersey dress from True Bias. I made our sample using our luxury ponteroma fabric and did the longer length with a slit at the back. ❤️ The facings are made from a contrasting woven cotton fabric and giving it an added stability. It was simple to make and as most of the seams needed to be pressed open the stretchy Gutermann Maraflex sewing thread was perfect. ❤️ This is a great pattern that can be worn in the summer and layered up for the winter. ❤️ #lododress #lododresspattern #truebiaspatterns #truebiaslododress #ponteroma

I blog at Love, Lucie I’m 47 and been sewing and crafting since I was small but only hooked on dressmaking in the last few years and seriously hooked, this past year!!! I live in Wakefield, West Yorkshire with my husband and temporarily again, my student daughter. I’m lucky to be surrounded by fabric shops, deadstock, surplus stock fabric shops in all directions although that wasn’t always the case. My day job is in civil engineering, specifically roads, and sewing is my creative release. I’ve fallen into a non clothes (apart from undies) buying year having bought my last item of clothing on NYE 2019. 🌻 So this is 49! I celebrated my birthday yesterday.. it was nice and chill! My boyfriend @timreevesmusic and I went to the Henry Ford Museum. I was born and raised in the Detroit area and remember going to #GreenfieldVillage as a kid but I can’t remember going to the museum. So when I moved back to Michigan in 2016, I told Tim I wanted to go to Greenfield Village/Henry Ford Museum. Well, here we are 7 years later. Better late than never.. We had a great time! Another unposted make. I made this @truebias Lodo Dress sometime last year, not quite sure when. I wasn't sure if this would fit well over this baby, but it actually fit perfectly with the stretch of the fabric! I was so comfy and cool in today's hot weather. We went to the park for scooter riding and bird watching before it hits 80° out. Made this in a ponte knit from @stonemountainfabric and used some remnants for the facings. 🐈‍⬛ // Day 12 of #memademay2023 cooling off at the mall in this #lododress that I haven’t worn since I was 9 months pregnant 2 years ago. I remember that was an equally hot day and I felt so uncomfortable in it. What a difference not being pregnant makes 😅 (duh) I feel so much more comfortable, though some things still bug me - like the stiffness of the fabric (recommended for this pattern) and the V-shape of the neckline. I love the sleeves and the fit though, so it’s likely I will modify the neckline (to a crew, or to a shallower V) and try this again in a cotton jersey instead! Made a @truebias #lododress out of 1.25m of #organiccottonrib from @wearethefabricstore. This dress is really simple to make and it's great to wear to work. Swipe to see the slit in action. I've got plenty of room to move! This pattern goes up to a 59.5in hip. I made a 14 up top and graded to an 18 in the hip. Here’s another tried and tested pattern that I hacked. Lodo dress from True Bias chopped into a banded top. This is my go to pattern for remnant knits 😍 Anyone else obsessed with the little dots from hand sewing? I know I am! Swipe right for the 2nd pic where I hand sewed the facing down. Used to shy away from hand sewing as it felt tedious, but soon realise that it’s makes a big difference to the outfits. I like how it gives more control to how the fabric lay against each other, particularly for hems. I usually accumulate all the pending hand sewing, put a movie on and work through the stitches. 🌻 I’ve been thinking back on all my me-mades from 2022 and trying to decide which me-made I loved the most. It was tough. My shackets were definitely top on my list. My last 2 makes, the white + black plaid dress and tie almost snuck right to 1st place. Hmm, all my #truebiaslododress were so great! I loved that I was able to use up a lot of my small pieces of knit fabric. Then there were my #meghanpeasantdress that make me smile whenever I put them on. And there was the #mariawrapapron that I loved dearly. Oh and the frocks I created with the McCalls7831 + York Pinafore patterns (mash-up)! The list goes on.. But. My most loved “make” last year wasn’t anything I made to wear. My most loved make took over a week to complete. Over 20 yards of fabric. It was the toughest, most tedious. I confess I was skeptical: only TWO pattern pieces for the main fabric (and three for facings)? woven facings for knit self fabric?! Yes to both. This pattern is quietly great, thoughtfully drafted and creatively constructed. I had a friend’s bday dinner in the city this weekend so I decided to try a true bias lodo dress! I made the toile of a black jersey from Joanne, and I had graded the hips too wide. So for my final version I resized and made it with this lovely olive raylon/nylon ponte knit from @stonemountainfabric #truebiaslododress #truebiaslodo. I styled it with an obi belt. It was a pretty quick sew, and I think I could do another from a woven! I like it a lot and hope to wear them both a bunch!

This fabric must’ve been left over from something I made for someone else.. So this piece has been in my stash for awhile. I’m so glad I found some good use for it..I love this color on me. #Refashioned Lodo Shirt, and peep my new earrings from @Jane.AndJuly! 😍 I loved the chevrons in the original dress (swipe to see—heeeeeyyy, 2019), but after a few years of wear, the hems were yellowed, the shape was meh, and the polyester lining was staticky. 🧵 The #LodoDress pattern is not made for woven fabrics, but its simple lines were a good match for letting the chevrons shine. I lined it with a rayon lining, pieces cut identically to the self fabric. 🧵 Verdict: it's tight around the arms (again, not for wovens), and the pristine white at the neck and armholes will wilt quickly in this Texas humidity. We now return to previously scheduled programming of Nandita in OTT poses. My TNT knit pattern is the Lodo dress. I’ve made several short versions but never the midi with the back vent. Well, now I’ve made three! This one is a French Terry and I fell in love with the crochet squares and knew I wanted to use it in a way that did not interrupt the pattern. For the back, I added a long rose gold zipper. The zipper is for decorative purposes only since this is a pullover. 🧿 Most of you know I don’t take myself too seriously when it comes to the poses. I make up a story and reenact. In this set of pics, I’ve imagined myself casually strolling when BOOM! A blank canvas of a wall stops me and says,” you MUST stop and show the world how new and bright and shiny I am. Flail your arms, lift your shoulders, swing those hips, imagine countless cameras clicking” So, I did just that. In reality, this wall is the back of a newly built strip mall. There was a kid wailing to his mom about how he was bored. And the view in front of me was a construction port-a- potty and two large garbage cans. But, hey, like I’ve written before, I pose ANYWHERE and EVERYWHERE…I dive into my imagination and everything else around me disappears. Some things I created in late December 2020 include the birth of my second child; an emotional maelstrom in my first child (see: newborn baby sibling); and a draft of a knitting pattern for a sweater, which I am knitting here while nursing my newborn son at night, by the creepy red glow of a headlamp. I do a lot of applied statistics in my daily life and one day I wanted a math problem that didn't have anything to do with work or my PhD so I knit up a little gauge swatch and determined how I'd make a crew neckline at particular dimensions, from the top down and in the round and steeked, as I wanted to use self-striping yarn and to knit a continuous tube for the whole sweater, including on either side of the neck. I rang in the New Year last night like this, listening to Philadelphia's fireworks and cow bells from my bedroom, my son and my knitting crammed in my lap, my headlamp's red bulb casting a weird pall. . Last year on New Year's Eve I was in the midst of a protracted miscarriage that concluded with surgery in the early weeks of 2020. As much as 2020 was a grindstone year with inauspicious beginnings that profoundly exhausted my partner and I, not to mention our older son, the fact of this birth only 12 months after a painful loss has absolutely reoriented and uplifted me. I am trying to better embrace and observe - borrowing words from artist Gabi Abrão (@sighswoon) - the ways I've shape-shifted, adapted and evolved as a result of this strange year. Not all the shape-shifts are bad. . With full-time work, study, simultaneous childcare to a toddler for most of the year, and a pregnancy, I did not engage much in my beloved hand crafts in 2020.
