Just made some True Bias Shelby dresses! Here’s the first one— I’ll try and post the others throughout the week. I’m on a little sewing spree now that I have a bit of free time. It’s sooo nice! I’ve been craving some blue in my wardrobe, so this was nice to do. Idkw, but I feel very southern in this dress! Maybe because I don’t wear florals very much, and I feel a bit frou frou? 😄 oh well, I like it! The fabric is a cotton sheet from Target 😅 I saw it in the store and fell in love with the print. Sheets (whether new or thrifted) are always a nice source of lots of fabric. I’m very pleased with the fit! I was good and made a muslin, and didn’t have to make too many adjustments. The dress itself is pretty easy to sew up! I highly recommend it! Today was our Easter/Pascha picnic after church. So even though I originally hoped to wear this last week for Easter, I’m glad I could finish up the details and wear it today. 🙂 Adding a quick plug for my friend Elyse Durham’s new book ‘Maya and Natasha’. I made a new dress💃💃! For months while I couldn’t sew I kept thinking about this project, and to make it happen I hacked the #shelbydress by @truebias. I removed the sleeves, and reduced the width at the shoulder seam and some fullness from the skirt. This cotton lawn fabric comes from my trip to Japan. It’s quite narrow, only 110 cm wide/43”, and by reducing the width of the skirt panels I was able to fit this dress in 2.7m. Total cost ~$15 including just the cost of the fabric since I already had the pattern. Finished this @truebias #shelbydress a few weeks ago and am so happy with it! Made in #bfviscoselinennoil from @blackbirdfabrics in Midnight Spruce. I am obsessed with the colour. The princess seams were new for me and I think they turned out pretty good. I did make two left fronts by accident and had to redo it 😅 Besides that setback this was a relatively straightforward project which was nice. The princess seams necessitated outrageous amounts of overlocking for someone without a serger but that is a me problem! (I really should get a serger). I found the waist ties a bit long so I have been tying them in the front and I do like the look even though it's not really meant to be worn like that. Made a straight size 2 and I did not adjust the length for my height so its a little longer than perhaps what was intended but I like that I can wear it to work without fear. Such a fun make and I can't wait to wear year round. 🍃

I went on tour recently with my amazing choir @eursingers to Italy and so had to make a concert dress for the occasion! 3 concerts across northern Italy - Brescia, Lake Garda and Verona 🇮🇹 Keeping with my last minute track record, I finished the buttons off on the train from Milan Airport 🤭 Pattern is the #shelbydress from @truebias , I altered the sleeves to make them wide, and love the tie at the back to create an adjustable shape! A 90’s summer staple 💙 For the longest time I have wanted to sew another 90s princess seamed dress. I have the Shelby but the fit has never worked out quite right for me so I wanted to explore some true vintage sewing patterns in the same style. The New Look 6527 is one of the patterns I stashed as part of my hunt and I was really drawn to the unusual scallop collar. It was cut on a size 14 already and so for ease / match with my waist and hip measurements (28”/38”) I decided to give it a sew with a few mods: 💙 I sewed the front and back seams at 6/8” (rather than 5/8”) to take a bit of fabric out as my bust is smaller than the size 14 measurements. 💙 I took a wedge out of the underarm (1” tapering down 5”) as there was a lot of excess fabric there 💙 Instead of the centre back piece I added simple ties to bow 💙 The previous owner had reduced the length by 10cm so I ended up with this mod too(!) luckily at 5”4 that was okay for me! 💙 I swopped out the HUGE puff sleeve for a much simpler sleeve from another vintage pattern Overall I’m pleased with how this dress turned out, the fit is certainly better than previous attempts I’ve had at this style, though I do always find the shoulders a little restrictive - may just be the design itself! 🔹Fabric: 2.5-3m of 140 width Navy Linen from @discountfabricsltd (AD - gifted) 🔹Buttons: Vintage from stash #discountfabricsltd #sewistsofinstagram #sewist #sewsewsew #sewinglove #memadeeveryday #memadewardrobe #newlook6527 #linendress #shelbydress #sewistofinstagram #sewingblogger #vintagesew #vintagesewingpatterns

S H E L B Y D R E S S 🐚 Pattern: Shelby Dress by @truebias (view B with cap sleeves) Size: 6 bodice graded to 8 at the hips Mods: Shorted bodice by ~2.5cm and shortened skirt by ~ 3.5cm Fabric: Small silhouette floral viscose from @wearethefabricstore (Easy to handle using a Microtex needle) Thoughts: Love it. It brings the 90s aesthetic I was after! I sized down from my recommended measurements of a 8 bodice to 10 hips; there’s a heap of ease in this dress, so I’d recommend going off the finished garment measurements. There’s a lot of ease in the bust and neckline area,I actually wore slip dress underneath to prevent any *exposure* 🫢 Also found button placement perfect! No gaping between buttonholes was a suprise win! Easy to sew, essentially a bunch of straight lines with a few curves around the arms and neckline. My machine even sewed every buttonhole perfectly with no issues…. May 31: Last day of Me Made May and our anniversary so I saved a new favorite for today. This is a #shelbydress by @truebias that I made last weekend out of this very cheerful and vibrant rayon that was gifted to me from @artgalleryfabrics. (It's "dancing florets in rouge" I believe). I have loved every dress or skirt that I've made out of their rayon and this one is no exception. It takes some careful cutting and make sure you don't skip any stay stitching and it'll turn out great. This Shelby dress is a size 16 in their D cup range and the only adjustment I made was to raise the neckline by two inches at the center (I wanted to be sure I could wear this to work!). 🌹A dress for my mom 🥀 About this dress: Last summer I wanted to try ecoprinting for the first time. I originally wanted to print this fabric with roses, but the natural dye didn't take well to the cotton I chose. (This is a beautiful thrifted cotton sheet.) In some areas you can still see some faint rose leaves. But on top of the faint rose leaf prints, I decided to hammer print some sage leaves in order to achieve a bolder design. I set the sage prints with an iron bath. The fabric pieces had been sitting around waiting to be sewn up until a few days ago. I was surprised by how quickly this dress came together, given that most of my recent projects have taken a very long time! The pattern was super easy and quick to sew. I have included a few photos of the inside of the dress because I like how neat it turned out. While trimming the sleeve seam allowance, I accidentally snipped a v-shaped cut into the sleeve, so I had to patch it. There is an extra button sewn onto the inside side seam allowance. I did French seams by machine for all the princess seams, with the hemming done by hand for inconspicuous stitching. Main construction was extremely fast; finishing did take quite a while but was worth it. In the future I would like to try to print some fabric that would turn out more akin to my original intention with this project. I would choose probably wool or maybe silk, since the reason this cotton didn't respond well to the dye is that it's a cellulose fiber rather than an animal one. I would try layering a lot of rose foliage and maybe other plant matter under a - perhaps madder - dye blanket to dye the background around the flowers and leaves. If I made the same dress with it I'd try adding the cool lace-up detail at the back that I've seen some people do with this pattern. Our Luana's fabric choice was just gorgeous- as she is ♥️ (re-posted) - @lmfcrafts The Shelby Dress from @designerstitch features a flattering silhouette with unique design elements, including a twist collar, gathered and draped sleeves, and ruching at both the front and back. The pattern also includes a standard skirt base without ruching and offers options for elbow-length or long sleeves, along with three different skirt lengths: 55 cm, 60 cm, and 75 cm. I chose the shortest skirt length, with ruching at both the front and back, and opted for elbow sleeves. The pattern recommends using jersey knit fabrics that have good drape and offer at least 50% stretch horizontally and 25% vertically. I used ITY fabric from my stash, which worked well because it was light enough for gathering and had a good drape. The collar was the trickiest part of the construction, but after taking my time to read through the instructions, it turned out to be simpler than I had expected! I finally finished my #shelbydress 😍 This has taken me several weeks, which has completely thrown off my plans to finish something every week this summer, BUT - I'm really happy I took my time with it. I think it's some of the best, most careful sewing I've ever done. That being said, I'm not 100% satisfied with the fit. I made a straight size 14 and I think it needs to be taken in, or maybe even a bust or neckline adjustment. I made a muslin from a relatively drapey bedsheet, but it wasn't quite similar enough to get an accurate gauge of the fit. Oh well! #shelbydress It was lying around for a long time and somehow I didn't have the muse to finish it. Thanks to Nicole's call for summer sewing, I grabbed the dress again and finished sewing it. Unfortunately, it wasn't that easy in the end, I still had a lot of excess fabric on the front part. I don't have that big breasts, so I had to sew away a few things. In addition, the fabric is so heavy, despite its lightness, that it distorts the cut a bit. Anyway, here you can see the end product of my shelby dress by @truebias sewn from viscose linen from @stoffmarktexpo 🇩🇪 Lang lag es angefangen herum und irgendwie fehlte mir die Muse, es fertig zu stellen. Dank Nicoles Aufruf zum Sommernähen, habe ich mir das Kleid nochmal geschnappt und fertig genäht. Danke @kleidercolle So einfach war es am Ende dann leider nicht, ich hatte am Vorderteil doch noch ganz schön viel Stoffüberschuss. Shelby dress no.3 with pocket hack 👗 . I loved my first two long shelby dresses, but there one was one element missing...pockets. The princess seam dress doesn't lend itself to in-seam pockets, so I took inspiration from the Pietra Pants panelled pockets and I hacked myself some pockets. Next time, I would interface the top pocket seam so it'd be less saggy. Otherwise, I flipping nailed it and love it. The fabric wouldn't be one that I would pick and came in a subscription box. However, I really do love the blue stripes in this print. I finished this back in July but forgot to get photos when I wore it to my last in-person meeting with my former job. I bought both the fabric and pattern for this make off of @makers_resale, and the buttons are from a #thrifted duvet cover (that I used to make my Veronica Tucker Hazel dress). So I’m basically a Secondhand Queen and will save the earth single-handed 👑💁‍♀️ //Pattern: #truebiasshelby by @truebias, view A, size 4. Purchased from @makers_resale from @_sewingstars //Mods: Lengthened to the lengthen/shorten line to be knee length. I only had 7 buttons and I really wanted to use them but with this length, I would’ve needed 8 to follow the pattern. So I had to adjust the distance between buttonholes. In other posts, I saw that the armscye was small, but it was just fine for me, so no mods there. //Fabric: Rayon challis, purchased from @makers_resale from @andrea_djones. Buttons are from a duvet cover from @savers_thrift. //Pattern Review: This pattern is drafted for a C cup. I am an A cup and cannot fill the bust of this dress no matter how much padding I wear underneath. I show in the video how much extra fabric I have in that area. There’s no critique here, just a bummer for all the small chests out there. The instructions were clear, it came together quickly, and overall was great! #memademay2023 Day 3: It’s The #shelbydress by @truebias! Not to brag but this fabric + pattern combo is a match made in heaven. I would 100% buy this at a store. Size: I graded from a 10 above the waist to a 12 below, and the fit through the body was perfect right out of the envelope. Sleeves were trickier (see below). Fabric: rayon challis by @cottonandsteel Mods: I added 1” of length to the skirt (I’m 5’3”) and removed 1” of width at each shoulder seam (a common adjustment for me). That created a bigger armscye, so I used a size 18 sleeve piece as a base to re-draft from. (Closeup is in the final slide.) HOWEVER. I did originally baste on the size 10 sleeves (prior to taking the width from the shoulders) and they were waaaay too small and restrictive! I’ve never had to do a full bicep adjustment in any other pattern, but I would have here if I didn’t already need to redraft the sleeves for other reasons. I read several reviews from other people who had major sleeve trouble with this garment as well. So, be aware of that and maybe cut your sleeves out of muslin at first, if you’re not making a full muslin! Speaking of fabric… the pattern called for 3.5yds of 44” fabric. I got this dress out of about 2.75yds, including the facings and cutting the sleeves twice. Shelby Dress no1. It was only after seeing the 6 versions made by Andie of So Andie Sews on her vlog that I decided to get on and make my own version. The pattern is reminiscent of the 'grunge-style' dresses that I loved in the 1990's. I ordered 5 metres of viscose from Rainbow Fabrics (I had misread the fabric requirements on the instructions!). Using my measurements I printed View A in 'D' cup 20-24. I graded from 20 at the shoulders to 24 at the bust, waist and hips. I shortened above waist by 2 inches and ended up with a the total back length 45 inches inclusive of seam + hem allowances. I also downloaded the puff sleeve hack. As the roses print was not one-way design I nested the pattern pieces and used only 3 metres leaving the remnant 2 metres to be made up into a blouse at a later date. I basted the main panel seams and inserted the narrow tie belt into the back panels for the first fitting. The dress was so big it was like a little girl wearing her granny's dress! The shoulders needed to be reduced by at least 1½ inches and the overall fit of the dress could easily be taken in by around 4 inches Second fitting – so much better! I stitched and overlocked the seam allowances before adding the facings. I inserted the puff sleeves, 15 inches of ¼ inch elastic tied in a knot into the casing. That allows for a snug but not too tight fit. I finished off by double turning a narrow hem. I was delighted to find I could get the dress on and off without undoing the fastenings. I stitched 9 Black buttons 2¾ inches apart through all layers. Conclusion: Although I was very disappointed at the first fitting stage this was very soon forgotten as I am now delighted with the dress. I have altered the pattern and there will be many more of this style with variations of sleeve. The only other change will be to stitch the buttons a little closer together as there is some slight gaping between buttons 2, 3 and 4. I fell in love with the #truebiasshelbydress when I saw it on the Great British Sewing Bee as a cool 90s inspired tea dress. That was a few years ago, and despite owning the pattern for quite some time, I was completely terrified of it (buttonholes!!!). However, I finally plucked up the courage to make it, and I'm glad I did; although it wasn't an easy make for me. I used almost 4 metres of this lovely viscose fabric, which whilst absolutely beautiful, I found tricky to work with as it's quite slippery and seemed to grow (hemming was particularly difficult after letting it hang over night-any tips?). I sewed the smallest size, but found the pattern itself runs quite large. Next time, I would adjust the neckline to make it higher, and I would make this in a more stable fabric-perhaps a cotton or poly-cotton. I added the #normablouse sleeves, and used three rows of shirring around the sleeve opening to create a comfortable puffy sleeve. I have tied the belt at the front here, which I feel gives it a better fit for me. Overall a success, but I would like to make some improvements next time. Are you your harshest critic? Day 26 of my very intermittent #memademay is a very special make for a very special occasion ✨ it’s a bit wonky in places but we’ll just say that’s part of the charm… this is the first @truebias #shelbydress I’ve made and I love how it’s turned out. It’s exactly that 90s button through look I was going for, although I think I would size down next time and use lighter weight interfacing. Unfortunately I don't have the skills of @handmadephd (#fangirling) to show you pattern adjustments, but I'll take an old school approach to show you the changes I made to my #shelbydress pattern. After my first toile I immediately realised that for the first time in my life having exactly the same same measures as one of the sizes in the table doesn't mean a single thing. I mean, I knew that already, but a girl can dream, right? 😉 Unfortunately I did not take pictures of all the pattern pieces, but here you can see I shaved off almost the entire curve of the front panels for a #sba, chopped and spread all the pieces 1 cm to allow more height and less pulling in the armpits, broadened back and front side panels, and straightened the center front panel to adjust for hollow/low chest. I was hesitating to show you the sleeves as there is literally zero rhyme or reason there, just 4 iterations of toiles but here they are anyway. The sleeves were too tight and restricting, and now a little less so. Oh, and I lengthened the skirt an additional 13 cm! Picuture 1 and 3 show the pattern piece compared to their un-tortured originals. I'll show you pictures of the finished dress in a separate post, but you can find a sneak peak in the last picture! #truebiasshelby #truebiasshelbydress

My first @truebias #shelbydress 😍 Really pleased with this one! It feels like something I would buy and is possibly the most “me” thing I’ve made yet! Saying that, this type of dress wouldn’t usually fit well as being 5ft the waist doesn’t usually sit in the right place! I shortened this and did a narrow shoulder adjustment but think it could’ve done with a little more there. There is also a little bit of gaping between the first and second button so I might see if I can move the button slightly to help with that ☺️ I really enjoyed the process of making this one though and did it over a few weeks in evenings after work and a little on weekends. I’m so excited to post this #shelbyromper . I almost chucked it in the UFO 🛸 corner because of the placket instructions. 🩻 The insides are lovely. All French seamed and the armholes are bias bound. 📏 The romper comes as a mini or midi version and the pattern pieces are different. I used the mini pattern and lengthened it 3 inches. 🎀 You are meant to tie it in the back but there is no reason you couldn’t tie in the front as one of the photos shows. 👗👖 Without the shadow provided by the afternoon sun, you can’t tell it isn’t a dress. I think it would be perfect for something like a cruise 🚢 where you would always be fighting for your modesty. I can see a long version coming soon. Thanks to Katrina @create_something_pretty I raced off to Spotlight when she showed this fabric she had purchased. I knew the colours were right up my alley. Sometimes if you wear a dress all day it gets wrinkly!!    I received this fabric as a gift many years ago and could never figure out how best to use it until I saw the Shelby dress. The pattern has a super fun shape and I like the use of ties in the back for easy shaping without being too constricting.    Speaking of constricting though, my goodness are these the worst sleeves I've ever sewn. I did not heed the warnings of all others who made this, thinking that my arms and shoulders aren't something I usually have to adjust for. What hubris!! The dress is almost unwearable as drafted. I can't raise my arms, pick things up, or generally use my arms in this. I luckily have just enough fabric to cut new sleeves, but that's a task for another day. The pattern company knows this is an issue: they fixed the issue in sizes 14-32. I don't know why they haven't changed the 0-18 pattern but I'm pretty unimpressed with this part of the pattern.    I made a straight size 4, which calls for 2.5 yards. I lengthened the pattern 7cm and was still able to cut it out of only 2 1/8 yards.    The fabric was a difficult colour to match so I ended up using some translucent yellow flower buttons to go with the 90s theme of the dress.    All in all its a very straightforward pattern but the sleeve issue really grinds my gears.    #shelbydress #truebiasshelby #sewingwithrayon #rayondress #handmade #sewing #memadeeveryday #sewistsofinstagram #shelbydressandromper

I made this dress a couple of years ago but having seen a photo of myself in it, I realised it’s a bit of a tent on me! It’s been sitting on my ironing board for about 9 months waiting for an adjustment! So, to start the year, I’ve spent some time taking it in at all 6 seams (I think I took out about 3 inches in the end!) and now it fits much better - it really didn’t take very long to do, just one of those endless jobs that just doesn’t feel that exciting 😂 - I’m pleased with the result though and now have something more wearable! I didn’t have enough of any buttons to match, so wound up going with mismatched *coordinating* buttons, and they’re cute. I love this pattern. So I’d said I bought this rayon challis two years ago, but looking back at things I realized I’ve actually had this project waiting for THREE years, which is still better than the five it took me to finish that Ninja Turtle western shirt for my kids, so I’d say I’m doing pretty okay. Anyway, obviously this is the @truebias #ShelbyDressAndRomper in the mini dress view with cap sleeves, and the lace back alteration instead of the drafted ties. I’m currently a 39/39.5” bust, 30.5” waist, and 40” hip, and I cut the straight size 10 because I didn’t want tons of ease. The only alteration I ended up having to make was stitching the seam on the sleeves at 1/4” narrower to give myself comfortable ease in the sleeve. I would in future cut the armscye 1/2” higher because it sits slightly lower than is preferable for me, but other than that I’m super happy with the fit straight from the envelope (For length reference I’m just under 5’5”). I also doubled the buttons because with the decreased wearing ease and button positioning I was getting gaping. These were in my stash and I think the size works really nicely with 11 rather than the 5 indicated in the pattern. I went for a reasonable level of plaid matching in proportion to time and energy available, and I’m super happy with the extent to which the red and black/green stripes maintain continuity. It’s not perfect, but it’s better than RTW and I was ok with not perfect for the number of seams in this dress. 36 year old me is super happy with it, and 10 year old me is in looooooove. Wedding guest outfit completed 😅 Size 12 - I went by my bust measurement. According to my waist & hip measurements I should have graded out, but I didn’t need to as I could see from the finished garment measurements given on the pattern that plenty of ease is allowed and it’s worked out fine. I have been quietly participating in #memademay this year, challenging myself to wear at least one handmade piece each day this month, though I haven’t been posting any outfits online. this challenge has caused me to take a step back and realize how, in the words of @kolinamakes, i prefer to buy the cake (RTW basics, tees, jeans) and sew the frosting (fun dresses, jumpsuits, and tops), like this @truebias #shelbyromper, which will be so fun when it *finally* warms up. I lengthened the torso by 1.5” and then I redrafted the sleeve pattern, using the cap sleeve head and the flutter sleeve hem, which is just the feminine look I was hoping for and allows for greater arm mobility. also, bonus points for a romper that looks like a dress! fabric = @rubystarsociety strawberry & friends rayon from @portsmouthfabricco

First, I made it exactly as per pattern instructions - romper with short sleeves. And then I realised I NEED pockets (also adds volume) and the sleeves were giving me an army nurse vibes so they had to go! See pictures, there is a bit of both versions for comparison. I’m so excited to post this #shelbyromper . I almost chucked it in the UFO 🛸 corner because of the placket instructions. 🩻 The insides are lovely. All French seamed and the armholes are bias bound. 📏 The romper comes as a mini or midi version and the pattern pieces are different. I used the mini pattern and lengthened it 3 inches. 🎀 You are meant to tie it in the back but there is no reason you couldn’t tie in the front as one of the photos shows. 👗👖 Without the shadow provided by the afternoon sun, you can’t tell it isn’t a dress. I think it would be perfect for something like a cruise 🚢 where you would always be fighting for your modesty. I can see a long version coming soon. Thanks to Katrina @create_something_pretty I raced off to Spotlight when she showed this fabric she had purchased. I knew the colours were right up my alley. What do you know - NZ Spotlight had it in my local store. There were lots of sew alongs for the dress version but not for the more difficult romper- couldn’t find any. 8 makes this month, one skirt, one topper, one romper (which looks like a dress), and 5 dresses 👗 👗👗👗👗 My reflections are; Patterns: ✂️finally made the Shelby romper, I’ve had for a year- my first romper ✂️made my tnt #celestiadress by Papercut patterns. I made one similar in January 2023. That makes 5. ✂️4 Indie and 4 Big Four, one of the Indies was actually a mash up of 2 different Indie brands, Cashmerette & Merchant and Mills. ✂️going to have to put the Ibi by Pauline Alice on my sewing short queue as this cream version was made for my daughter. The one I made her for Xmas is on such high rotation. Styles: The long skirt, gathers and tiers predominates, although the #shelbyromper was a departure being just to the knee and a fit and flare silhouette. I really like it. ✅ This bias skirt was an experiment for my body shape. There were so many bias cut things on Insta I had to try a skirt. My report is, I like this version because it is not too clingy. It’s easy and doesn’t take too much fabric, so I might even try it one day in a silk. Most popular: 🥇goes to the Celestia dress by number of likes. It’s my favourite too. Fabrics: 6 fabrics were from local @spotlightstores 1 from The Fabric Store in NZ 1 from Harmer and Huff From this I think I’m saving up my special fabric and need to start using more. Cottons are still my most used substrate- 5, then linen -2 and 1 rayon. There were 2 plains and 6 prints, so again no such thing as a capsule wardrobe, but they were mostly dresses and the 2 items which were plain were separates, so they can be worn with other pieces. New techniques: i love it when I learn something new. 🪡 tried Hong Kong seams 🪡 I made a thread loop for a button for the first time. 💚 For the green dress I dyed the lace. I have dyed lace once before and this time I mixed colours to get the right shade of lime green. It was so easy when starting with a white coloured natural fibre. 🪡attaching grommets for a draw string for the bias skirt. My @truebias Shelby Romper 🧡 I made a size 8. The pattern is drafted for a C cup, so the fit is just right for me, also thanks to the waist ties at the back that cinch in the waist. I decided to lengthen the bodice by 2 cm and the legs by 5 cm, as I am 172 cm tall and the pattern is drafted for a height of 165 cm. In the end, the bodice was too long and I had to take the shoulder seams in by 2 cm to lift it and recut the armscye 🤦‍♀️ I had read reviews saying that the sleeves restricted movement, so I made fluttersleevese from the start to avoid that possibility! The fabric is viscose poplin with lovely drape from @chamdorfaktrysales . . Made a cute #shelbyromper and it's my new fav thing 💗🌷🍊 I saved this gorgeous "Spider flowers" fabric from @elliewhittakerstudio for a year, just waiting for the right pattern.  Pattern is by @truebias , one of my fav pattern makers.  I sewed a size 0 with no mods. I went with the longer sleeve option and it's a bit snug and restricted around the shoulders. I think it's necessary for the snug look but wonder if there's a way to modify this. I love the 90's style of this. There are ties towards the back which help bring the waist in. I saw there was also a corset style back blog if you wanted an even more snug fit.  I do think this would of looked great as a dress too. I have seen alot of romper versions, mostly in viscose. Rimma @rimmazolo made this super fun Shelby Romper that I had to share with you. This was actually her wearable muslin which she sewed up in this really pretty daisy print polyester fabric. Me made May Day 24. I actually sewed something new that I had cut out over a year ago and discarded. Why does that feel like such a big win? 😅 I really hated how fiddly this viscose was when I was cutting out this #shelbyromper and it made me so annoyed I couldn’t bare to sew it 😬 But this weekend I had a big chunk of time, unusually, where I had zero plans, and so I decided to tackle this make. I figured it would be perfect for the summer, and I was right. I cut a size 14 with no mods. A 14 is accurate for my bust measurement but my hip would have put me in a bigger size. As this is so flowy, I’ve gotten away with sizing down on the bottom half and I really like the fit. This viscose was from @ribesycasals over a year ago, and was less than €5 a metre. The quality is really great. I wasn’t looking forward to sewing this at all, but actually it came together really well with no hiccups, and I’m really happy with it. It feels cool and comfortable, I’ve worn it all day and don’t want to take it off. Hello from a person that doesn’t like jumpsuits. Up until now! This #truebiasshelby jumpsuit caught my attention with its front button closure (for obvious convenience reasons), princess seams that are easy to the eye yet so body shaping and it’s A-line silhouette which is a bit more sophisticated than a bog standard jumpsuit. And here I am - a jumpsuit convert!🤘 🧵 pattern True Bias Shelby #truebiasshelby by @truebias 🧵 size 6, long romper view 🧵mods: added pockets. Lower neckline by 1”. Added 10cm to the leg length. No sleeves, finished off with bias binding (probably need taking in by 1” or 2”) and longer tie straps as I want to wrap it around my waist. 🧵 fabric is soft stone washed linen from my stash (old haul from Latvia, from a shop that was closing down. It’s grown & produced in neighbouring Lithuania - one of the best quality with strong production heritage) 🧵 instructions were fantastic. Clear text and pictures. And lots of ironing! 😆👍 I imagine this jumpsuit would look incredible in some sort of viscose - with good drape and a bit less ironing needed after a wash. Shelby dress no.3 with pocket hack 👗 . I loved my first two long shelby dresses, but there one was one element missing...pockets. The princess seam dress doesn't lend itself to in-seam pockets, so I took inspiration from the Pietra Pants panelled pockets and I hacked myself some pockets. Next time, I would interface the top pocket seam so it'd be less saggy. Otherwise, I flipping nailed it and love it. The fabric wouldn't be one that I would pick and came in a subscription box. However, I really do love the blue stripes in this print. I finished this back in July but forgot to get photos when I wore it to my last in-person meeting with my former job. My new favorite dress pattern, the True Bias Shelby out of viscose fabric from Think Pink Box 29. I lengthened it 5” to knee length and did the lace up back hack from the True Bias blog. Because this was such a light summery fabric I bias bound the armholes instead of adding the sleeves. My @truebias Shelby Romper 🧡 I made a size 8. The pattern is drafted for a C cup, so the fit is just right for me, also thanks to the waist ties at the back that cinch in the waist. I decided to lengthen the bodice by 2 cm and the legs by 5 cm, as I am 172 cm tall and the pattern is drafted for a height of 165 cm. In the end, the bodice was too long and I had to take the shoulder seams in by 2 cm to lift it and recut the armscye 🤦‍♀️ I had read reviews saying that the sleeves restricted movement, so I made fluttersleevese from the start to avoid that possibility! The fabric is viscose poplin with lovely drape from @chamdorfaktrysales . . S H E L B Y D R E S S 🐚 Pattern: Shelby Dress by @truebias (view B with cap sleeves) Size: 6 bodice graded to 8 at the hips Mods: Shorted bodice by ~2.5cm and shortened skirt by ~ 3.5cm Fabric: Small silhouette floral viscose from @wearethefabricstore (Easy to handle using a Microtex needle) Thoughts: Love it. It brings the 90s aesthetic I was after! I sized down from my recommended measurements of a 8 bodice to 10 hips; there’s a heap of ease in this dress, so I’d recommend going off the finished garment measurements. There’s a lot of ease in the bust and neckline area,I actually wore slip dress underneath to prevent any *exposure* 🫢 Also found button placement perfect! No gaping between buttonholes was a suprise win! Easy to sew, essentially a bunch of straight lines with a few curves around the arms and neckline. My machine even sewed every buttonhole perfectly with no issues…. I’ve been meaning to try the @truebias #truebiasshelby for a long time! First challenge was to find the fabric (viscose from @javrostoffen ), I wanted a cute ditsy floral to really embrace the 90’s vibe, and then the actual cutting and sewing. I don’t love it as much as I thought I would. And I think it’s the v-neck (I find them really strange on me sometimes and also hard to fit) but also the hungry bum, haha, it’s just when you sit or walk it rides up a bit and that’s not super flattering. I also shortened the legs on this one because the original length looked really weird on me. Which means it’s quite cheeky (literally) now but I like it, and I feel my legs look super long in them! #truebiasshelby jumpsuit in romper version. I made it, took some pictures of it and did not like what I saw so it had to go back to my sewing table. First, I made it exactly as per pattern instructions - romper with short sleeves. And then I realised I NEED pockets (also adds volume) and the sleeves were giving me an army nurse vibes so they had to go! See pictures, there is a bit of both versions for comparison. This week of #memademay, I have been focusing on wearing my favorite rompers and overalls. I quickly realized this is a hole in my wardrobe that finally pushed me to sewing up the #shelbyjumpsuit from @truebias. • I made a size 0 and shortened the torso 1 1/2”. My next version, I will also take 3/4-1” out of the bust to make these princess seams fit my small chested self a bit better. I’m a BIG fan of the princess seams and love the flowy legs of this linen romper. Cody told me that it’s a great make “because it looks like you’re wearing a dress but it’s actually a jumpsuit.” • I was able to strategically squeeze this out of 1 1/2yd of this Washed Linen in Sangria from @saltlakesewciety. Day 4–Me Made May. Fourteen years, people. Fourteen years! Not sure how that happened, nobody expected it. But today I’m 14 years ovarian cancer free. Wearing my True Bias Shelby dress, made from a Think Pink box viscose fabric. This is one of my fav patterns, I always do the lace up hack from the True Bias blog. Other changes I made to this version was I made a kind of lantern sleeve—lengthened the sleeve piece to the elbow, then gathered and attached a wide straight rectangle and gathered the other end into a small cuff. And, how about the shoe match today with my Fluevog Malala’s. Forgot to show off my @truebias Shelby Playsuit. #truebiasshelby I made a version ages ago but in the dress style and it came out way too big. So this time I sized down and it’s perfect. I made the size 10 in this viscose challis I got from @rainbowfabrickilburn I love that’s it’s a playsuit but still looks like a dress. This is the outfit I am wearing for the hen due. We need to wear something black. It’s an all day/eveningg advent so needed to be comfy and it’s Going to be hot. 😍👌

New dress to wear on vacation!! I’ve been wanting to make a princess seamed dress for a while, and an upcoming vacation seamed to be the perfect excuse to get down to it. After rummaging around I decided to go with the Shelby dress from True Bias. I didn’t have to mess around with the pattern much - lowered back neck, forward shoulder adjustment, 3” shortened at the line, and going out a few sizes from bust downwards. I pulled up the bgps and made a thigh length toile as well - it confirmed all my changes nicely and no further changes were needed. In the spirit of my holiday destination - Southeast Asia -I decided to bravely cut into the wild jungle print slub cotton I’d been hoarding in my stash for just such a moment. The directional print meant I had to be creative with my cutting and flexible about pattern matching, but I did manage to eke it out with 3metres, including sleeves gathering at a cuff. The loosely woven slub needed some serious seam finishing, so another tug at the bgps to try out bias binding them for the first time ever. Yet another @truebias pattern - this time it’s the Shelby! Again! But cropped to be top length instead of dress, as a transitional-weather office shirt. Isn’t that @fableism honeycomb fabric so nice? Big warning ⚠️ on this pattern - the sleeve drafting on the smaller size range is wonky. Every time I make it I use a size 18 sleeve, even though the body is a smaller size (this one is a 12), because I have no arm mobility otherwise. I suspect if you are actually a size 18 the sleeve would strangle your bicep. More details on my modifications are on my first Shelby post, earlier on the grid. That feeling when you perfect the fit of your new favourite pattern 🤩🤩 This is my second attempt at the True Bias Shelby dress and it fits beautifully. I made the largest size 18, and then refined the curve of the princess seams based on my first version (just by using my french curve to take a slither off where needed). I also raised the curve of the hip line up because I’m short waisted and wanted the flair of the skirt to start higher up accordingly. This pattern is a good example of why checking the finished garment measurements are so important. Technically I don’t fit into this pattern’s measurements, but there is enough ease in the style that it still fits me, and by adding the right shaping I’ve ended up with a pattern I will make and wear time and time again!! 🤩🤩 I love how the flare of this dress is created by beautiful full length princess seams. It adds such a pretty shape, and can be further cinched in with the ties at the back. I saw a hack on Instagram of a laced back, which I’d love to try on my next version 🤔 🤔 Viscose is the perfect fabric for this pattern, with its fluid drape and swish. This new Minerva Exclusive EcoVero viscose has a more matt texture than some of the slippier silky viscoses, making it that little bit easier to sew with, and ideal for my favourite French seams, but still with the stunning movement and softness you expect from viscose 🥰🥰 This is the capped sleeved version, but I hacked the length to be in between the long and the short lengths, so it hits just over the knee, which is my personal preference for day dresses 👗 👗 Have you made this pattern before? I made a new dress💃💃! For months while I couldn’t sew I kept thinking about this project, and to make it happen I hacked the #shelbydress by @truebias. I removed the sleeves, and reduced the width at the shoulder seam and some fullness from the skirt. This cotton lawn fabric comes from my trip to Japan. It’s quite narrow, only 110 cm wide/43”, and by reducing the width of the skirt panels I was able to fit this dress in 2.7m. Total cost ~$15 including just the cost of the fabric since I already had the pattern. I finally finished my #shelbydress 😍 This has taken me several weeks, which has completely thrown off my plans to finish something every week this summer, BUT - I'm really happy I took my time with it. I think it's some of the best, most careful sewing I've ever done. That being said, I'm not 100% satisfied with the fit. I made a straight size 14 and I think it needs to be taken in, or maybe even a bust or neckline adjustment. I made a muslin from a relatively drapey bedsheet, but it wasn't quite similar enough to get an accurate gauge of the fit. Oh well! I had a RTW dress just like this in the early 90's (or was it late 80's?) that I loved and wore a lot. The @truebias Shelby Dress (and Romper) has princess seams, button front, front and neckline facings, back waist tie and can be made with cap or short sleeves, a dress in 2 lengths, and a romper in 2 lengths. I made the cap sleeve mini dress version and didn't shorten for my height of 61". I bought both the fabric and pattern for this make off of @makers_resale, and the buttons are from a #thrifted duvet cover (that I used to make my Veronica Tucker Hazel dress). So I’m basically a Secondhand Queen and will save the earth single-handed 👑💁‍♀️ //Pattern: #truebiasshelby by @truebias, view A, size 4. Purchased from @makers_resale from @_sewingstars //Mods: Lengthened to the lengthen/shorten line to be knee length. I only had 7 buttons and I really wanted to use them but with this length, I would’ve needed 8 to follow the pattern. So I had to adjust the distance between buttonholes. In other posts, I saw that the armscye was small, but it was just fine for me, so no mods there. //Fabric: Rayon challis, purchased from @makers_resale from @andrea_djones. Buttons are from a duvet cover from @savers_thrift. //Pattern Review: This pattern is drafted for a C cup. I am an A cup and cannot fill the bust of this dress no matter how much padding I wear underneath. I show in the video how much extra fabric I have in that area. There’s no critique here, just a bummer for all the small chests out there. The instructions were clear, it came together quickly, and overall was great! I love True Bias patterns and this is now a stan account. //Next Time I Will: Grade to a smaller size for the bust, maybe? #memademay2023 Day 3: It’s The #shelbydress by @truebias! Not to brag but this fabric + pattern combo is a match made in heaven. I would 100% buy this at a store. Size: I graded from a 10 above the waist to a 12 below, and the fit through the body was perfect right out of the envelope. Sleeves were trickier (see below). Fabric: rayon challis by @cottonandsteel Mods: I added 1” of length to the skirt (I’m 5’3”) and removed 1” of width at each shoulder seam (a common adjustment for me). That created a bigger armscye, so I used a size 18 sleeve piece as a base to re-draft from. (Closeup is in the final slide.) HOWEVER. I did originally baste on the size 10 sleeves (prior to taking the width from the shoulders) and they were waaaay too small and restrictive! I’ve never had to do a full bicep adjustment in any other pattern, but I would have here if I didn’t already need to redraft the sleeves for other reasons. I read several reviews from other people who had major sleeve trouble with this garment as well. So, be aware of that and maybe cut your sleeves out of muslin at first, if you’re not making a full muslin! Speaking of fabric… the pattern called for 3.5yds of 44” fabric. I got this dress out of about 2.75yds, including the facings and cutting the sleeves twice. I fell in love with the #truebiasshelbydress when I saw it on the Great British Sewing Bee as a cool 90s inspired tea dress. That was a few years ago, and despite owning the pattern for quite some time, I was completely terrified of it (buttonholes!!!). However, I finally plucked up the courage to make it, and I'm glad I did; although it wasn't an easy make for me. I used almost 4 metres of this lovely viscose fabric, which whilst absolutely beautiful, I found tricky to work with as it's quite slippery and seemed to grow (hemming was particularly difficult after letting it hang over night-any tips?). I sewed the smallest size, but found the pattern itself runs quite large. Next time, I would adjust the neckline to make it higher, and I would make this in a more stable fabric-perhaps a cotton or poly-cotton. I added the #normablouse sleeves, and used three rows of shirring around the sleeve opening to create a comfortable puffy sleeve. I have tied the belt at the front here, which I feel gives it a better fit for me. Overall a success, but I would like to make some improvements next time. Are you your harshest critic? Day 26 of my very intermittent #memademay is a very special make for a very special occasion ✨ it’s a bit wonky in places but we’ll just say that’s part of the charm… this is the first @truebias #shelbydress I’ve made and I love how it’s turned out. It’s exactly that 90s button through look I was going for, although I think I would size down next time and use lighter weight interfacing. Unfortunately I don't have the skills of @handmadephd (#fangirling) to show you pattern adjustments, but I'll take an old school approach to show you the changes I made to my #shelbydress pattern. After my first toile I immediately realised that for the first time in my life having exactly the same same measures as one of the sizes in the table doesn't mean a single thing. I mean, I knew that already, but a girl can dream, right? 😉 Unfortunately I did not take pictures of all the pattern pieces, but here you can see I shaved off almost the entire curve of the front panels for a #sba, chopped and spread all the pieces 1 cm to allow more height and less pulling in the armpits, broadened back and front side panels, and straightened the center front panel to adjust for hollow/low chest. I was hesitating to show you the sleeves as there is literally zero rhyme or reason there, just 4 iterations of toiles but here they are anyway. The sleeves were too tight and restricting, and now a little less so. Oh, and I lengthened the skirt an additional 13 cm! Picuture 1 and 3 show the pattern piece compared to their un-tortured originals. Sometimes if you wear a dress all day it gets wrinkly!!    I received this fabric as a gift many years ago and could never figure out how best to use it until I saw the Shelby dress. The pattern has a super fun shape and I like the use of ties in the back for easy shaping without being too constricting.    Speaking of constricting though, my goodness are these the worst sleeves I've ever sewn. I did not heed the warnings of all others who made this, thinking that my arms and shoulders aren't something I usually have to adjust for. What hubris!! The dress is almost unwearable as drafted. I can't raise my arms, pick things up, or generally use my arms in this. I luckily have just enough fabric to cut new sleeves, but that's a task for another day. The pattern company knows this is an issue: they fixed the issue in sizes 14-32. I don't know why they haven't changed the 0-18 pattern but I'm pretty unimpressed with this part of the pattern.    I made a straight size 4, which calls for 2.5 yards. Me made May Day 24. I actually sewed something new that I had cut out over a year ago and discarded. Why does that feel like such a big win? 😅 I really hated how fiddly this viscose was when I was cutting out this #shelbyromper and it made me so annoyed I couldn’t bare to sew it 😬 But this weekend I had a big chunk of time, unusually, where I had zero plans, and so I decided to tackle this make. I figured it would be perfect for the summer, and I was right. I cut a size 14 with no mods. A 14 is accurate for my bust measurement but my hip would have put me in a bigger size. As this is so flowy, I’ve gotten away with sizing down on the bottom half and I really like the fit. This viscose was from @ribesycasals over a year ago, and was less than €5 a metre. The quality is really great. I wasn’t looking forward to sewing this at all, but actually it came together really well with no hiccups, and I’m really happy with it. It feels cool and comfortable, I’ve worn it all day and don’t want to take it off. Shelby Attempt Two 🧡 A few months ago I made my first @truebias Shelby dress and while I loved the style of the pattern, I just felt the fit wasn’t quite right. Mainly the armholes were too high (I lowered the armsyce of my last dress by 1”) and the back felt like it was pulling when I moved my arms - not ideal! To be honest, it had really put me off making another one as I wasn’t sure I could be bothered to fix the fit issues - I’ve never had to do a broad back adjustment before because I (don’t think) I have a broad back - I’ve certainly never had this issue with any other pattern. However, I decided it was time and (reluctantly) looked online for how to adjust a princess seamed back pattern piece and added 1/4” to the 2 back pieces where it was previously tight. I also dropped the armsyce by 1” as per my last version and adjusted the sleeve for this too. Finally, I opted to double the number of buttons (in for a penny in for a pound on the mods at this point!) and this is the finished result: The fit is SO much better than my first attempt - the back doesn’t pull at all 🙌🏻 Size wise, I worked off what was size 2 (My measurements: B 34” W 28” H 40”) and the fabric is a gorgeous orange viscose from my new fave @walthamstowfabrics - definitely check them out as they’re basically 🌈but half the price and much faster postage! Ok. I feel like you all need to stop collaborate and listen right now. I have long loved this Shelby Romper and finally bought the pattern but alas the largest size does not fit me and it does not come in extended sizes*. But if you cinch those waist ties real tight it almost fit Kate! I removed the sleeve and raised the shoulder seam by about 2 inches because the neck was too low for her. I then reattached the sleeves. It was easy peasy! I am kind of mad at how cute this looks on her. I hope she’ll wear it so I can visit it from time to time. I will probably work on upsizing the pattern for myself because I do love it. Shelby Dress no1. It was only after seeing the 6 versions made by Andie of So Andie Sews on her vlog that I decided to get on and make my own version. The pattern is reminiscent of the 'grunge-style' dresses that I loved in the 1990's. I ordered 5 metres of viscose from Rainbow Fabrics (I had misread the fabric requirements on the instructions!). Using my measurements I printed View A in 'D' cup 20-24. I graded from 20 at the shoulders to 24 at the bust, waist and hips. I shortened above waist by 2 inches and ended up with a the total back length 45 inches inclusive of seam + hem allowances. I also downloaded the puff sleeve hack. As the roses print was not one-way design I nested the pattern pieces and used only 3 metres leaving the remnant 2 metres to be made up into a blouse at a later date. I basted the main panel seams and inserted the narrow tie belt into the back panels for the first fitting. The dress was so big it was like a little girl wearing her granny's dress! The shoulders needed to be reduced by at least 1½ inches and the overall fit of the dress could easily be taken in by around 4 inches Second fitting – so much better! I stitched and overlocked the seam allowances before adding the facings. I inserted the puff sleeves, 15 inches of ¼ inch elastic tied in a knot into the casing. That allows for a snug but not too tight fit. I finished off by double turning a narrow hem. I was delighted to find I could get the dress on and off without undoing the fastenings. I stitched 9 Black buttons 2¾ inches apart through all layers. Conclusion: Although I was very disappointed at the first fitting stage this was very soon forgotten as I am now delighted with the dress. I have altered the pattern and there will be many more of this style with variations of sleeve. The only other change will be to stitch the buttons a little closer together as there is some slight gaping between buttons 2, 3 and 4. My @truebias Shelby Romper 🧡 I made a size 8. The pattern is drafted for a C cup, so the fit is just right for me, also thanks to the waist ties at the back that cinch in the waist. I decided to lengthen the bodice by 2 cm and the legs by 5 cm, as I am 172 cm tall and the pattern is drafted for a height of 165 cm. In the end, the bodice was too long and I had to take the shoulder seams in by 2 cm to lift it and recut the armscye 🤦‍♀️ I had read reviews saying that the sleeves restricted movement, so I made fluttersleevese from the start to avoid that possibility! I finally finished my #shelbydress 😍 This has taken me several weeks, which has completely thrown off my plans to finish something every week this summer, BUT - I'm really happy I took my time with it. I think it's some of the best, most careful sewing I've ever done. That being said, I'm not 100% satisfied with the fit. I made a straight size 14 and I think it needs to be taken in, or maybe even a bust or neckline adjustment. I made a muslin from a relatively drapey bedsheet, but it wasn't quite similar enough to get an accurate gauge of the fit. Oh well! Throwback Thursday to our Easter holiday in Thailand. I’m trying to post more of the things that I make as I find it useful personally to have a record of the changes I make to patterns. I also really appreciate being able to look at other people musings on patterns I am planning to make. I made this #truebiasshelbydress last summer in a rust and white floral challis from @rainbowfabrickilburn. I’ve had great success with fabric from them and this didn’t disappoint. The lightness of the fabric made it a perfect choice for the climate and the drape worked well with the pattern. You really don’t want anything too crisp for this. I love this dress and plan to make more maybe the longer version too.

#memademay2023 Day 3: It’s The #shelbydress by @truebias! Not to brag but this fabric + pattern combo is a match made in heaven. I would 100% buy this at a store. Size: I graded from a 10 above the waist to a 12 below, and the fit through the body was perfect right out of the envelope. Sleeves were trickier (see below). Fabric: rayon challis by @cottonandsteel Mods: I added 1” of length to the skirt (I’m 5’3”) and removed 1” of width at each shoulder seam (a common adjustment for me). That created a bigger armscye, so I used a size 18 sleeve piece as a base to re-draft from. (Closeup is in the final slide.) HOWEVER. I did originally baste on the size 10 sleeves (prior to taking the width from the shoulders) and they were waaaay too small and restrictive! I’ve never had to do a full bicep adjustment in any other pattern, but I would have here if I didn’t already need to redraft the sleeves for other reasons. I read several reviews from other people who had major sleeve trouble with this garment as well. So, be aware of that and maybe cut your sleeves out of muslin at first, if you’re not making a full muslin! Speaking of fabric… the pattern called for 3.5yds of 44” fabric. I got this dress out of about 2.75yds, including the facings and cutting the sleeves twice. My first @truebias #shelbydress 😍 Really pleased with this one! It feels like something I would buy and is possibly the most “me” thing I’ve made yet! Saying that, this type of dress wouldn’t usually fit well as being 5ft the waist doesn’t usually sit in the right place! I shortened this and did a narrow shoulder adjustment but think it could’ve done with a little more there. There is also a little bit of gaping between the first and second button so I might see if I can move the button slightly to help with that ☺️ I really enjoyed the process of making this one though and did it over a few weeks in evenings after work and a little on weekends. I had a RTW dress just like this in the early 90's (or was it late 80's?) that I loved and wore a lot. I fell in love with the #truebiasshelbydress when I saw it on the Great British Sewing Bee as a cool 90s inspired tea dress. That was a few years ago, and despite owning the pattern for quite some time, I was completely terrified of it (buttonholes!!!). However, I finally plucked up the courage to make it, and I'm glad I did; although it wasn't an easy make for me. I used almost 4 metres of this lovely viscose fabric, which whilst absolutely beautiful, I found tricky to work with as it's quite slippery and seemed to grow (hemming was particularly difficult after letting it hang over night-any tips?). I sewed the smallest size, but found the pattern itself runs quite large. Next time, I would adjust the neckline to make it higher, and I would make this in a more stable fabric-perhaps a cotton or poly-cotton. I added the #normablouse sleeves, and used three rows of shirring around the sleeve opening to create a comfortable puffy sleeve. I have tied the belt at the front here, which I feel gives it a better fit for me. Overall a success, but I would like to make some improvements next time. Are you your harshest critic? Unfortunately I don't have the skills of @handmadephd (#fangirling) to show you pattern adjustments, but I'll take an old school approach to show you the changes I made to my #shelbydress pattern. After my first toile I immediately realised that for the first time in my life having exactly the same same measures as one of the sizes in the table doesn't mean a single thing. I mean, I knew that already, but a girl can dream, right? 😉 Unfortunately I did not take pictures of all the pattern pieces, but here you can see I shaved off almost the entire curve of the front panels for a #sba, chopped and spread all the pieces 1 cm to allow more height and less pulling in the armpits, broadened back and front side panels, and straightened the center front panel to adjust for hollow/low chest. I was hesitating to show you the sleeves as there is literally zero rhyme or reason there, just 4 iterations of toiles but here they are anyway. The sleeves were too tight and restricting, and now a little less so. Oh, and I lengthened the skirt an additional 13 cm! Picuture 1 and 3 show the pattern piece compared to their un-tortured originals. #shelbydress It was lying around for a long time and somehow I didn't have the muse to finish it. Thanks to Nicole's call for summer sewing, I grabbed the dress again and finished sewing it. Unfortunately, it wasn't that easy in the end, I still had a lot of excess fabric on the front part. I don't have that big breasts, so I had to sew away a few things. In addition, the fabric is so heavy, despite its lightness, that it distorts the cut a bit. Anyway, here you can see the end product of my shelby dress by @truebias sewn from viscose linen from @stoffmarktexpo 🇩🇪 Lang lag es angefangen herum und irgendwie fehlte mir die Muse, es fertig zu stellen. Danke @kleidercolle So einfach war es am Ende dann leider nicht, ich hatte am Vorderteil doch noch ganz schön viel Stoffüberschuss. So große Brüste habe ich ja nicht, also musste ich da einiges wegnähen, hinzu kam, dass der Stoff trotz seiner Leichtigkeit so schwer fällt, um den Schnitt etwas verzieht. I started reflecting on my make nine from 2021 but instead felt myself drawn to looking at the dresses I've sewn this year. It isn't that I'm not proud of my progress on my make nine, I am, but I realised that this year I've unwittingly reached a goal fundamental to the reason why I wanted to learn to sew in the first place. Since I was a little girl I dreamt of sewing up dresses, and I can't help but look at the dresses I've sewn this year and smile. Even more so when I see the colour that's slowly creeping into my wardrobe. The fact that two of them aren't even finished is inconsequential. I'm really proud of what I've managed this year. My make nine was largely dominated by sloper courses, and a couple of makes I didn't get to. Whilst I didn't finish all those courses, I made steady progress and have learnt a huge amount about pattern cutting and my unique body. I'm looking forward to continuing them in the new year and sewing my first real garments from my slopers. Happy New Year!

Fabric is a #blackbirdfabrics #deadstock no longer available— tbh, wish I could’ve gotten more of this, it’s the perfect summer fabric Notions from la mercerie (I had to two two different buttons that were close enough in style, black metal and black resin)

I bought both the fabric and pattern for this make off of @makers_resale, and the buttons are from a #thrifted duvet cover (that I used to make my Veronica Tucker Hazel dress). So I’m basically a Secondhand Queen and will save the earth single-handed 👑💁‍♀️ //Pattern: #truebiasshelby by @truebias, view A, size 4. Purchased from @makers_resale from @_sewingstars //Mods: Lengthened to the lengthen/shorten line to be knee length. I only had 7 buttons and I really wanted to use them but with this length, I would’ve needed 8 to follow the pattern. So I had to adjust the distance between buttonholes. In other posts, I saw that the armscye was small, but it was just fine for me, so no mods there. //Fabric: Rayon challis, purchased from @makers_resale from @andrea_djones. Buttons are from a duvet cover from @savers_thrift. //Pattern Review: This pattern is drafted for a C cup. I am an A cup and cannot fill the bust of this dress no matter how much padding I wear underneath. I show in the video how much extra fabric I have in that area. There’s no critique here, just a bummer for all the small chests out there. The instructions were clear, it came together quickly, and overall was great! I love True Bias patterns and this is now a stan account. //Next Time I Will: Grade to a smaller size for the bust, maybe? Fitting a muslin on myself for the #TrueBiasShelbyDress extended size 20 Tweaks to be made: decrease shoulder width, decrease upper chest width (X-frt & X-bk). Raise armhole 1/2”. Let's hear it for the girls 🎵 Debuting my #truebiaspatterns #truebiasshelbydress today on an afternoon out with the girls nvolving food, laughs and drinks. I made this dress in a size 10 and cut right into the pattern 😱 felt like a cheeky little rebel but it was quite invigorating to not have the whole tracing fiasco, and if there's one thing covid has taught me - it's be bold. My only issue was that I bodged the hem so it's probably a couple of inches shorter than originally intended. Not an issue for the sesh though! 🥂 I put on some amazing pink heels 👠 The fabric was a lovely viscose poplin from #sewmesunshine Hopefully there will be many more of these in my future!
