The Salida skirt from @truebias has literally been on my planning for years. There was always something that came my way that had to be finished first. Now it finally happened! I sewed a size 4 without adjustments and it fits like a glove ❤️. And I’m crazy happy with it! The fabric is a thin denim that I bought a while ago in the sale at Cortina in Tessenderlo. Spring calls for bright colors, right? The perfect time to finally make something with this purplish pink woolen herringbone fabric I bought 1-2 years ago, in a whim, I might add. A different color for a change felt good at the time! How splendid that this bright color 💕looks great with my newish light grey sweater. I made this elegant #lariatpullover by @yamagara last summer as part of the #lorjasummerkal by @made.by.lota and @knitting4compliments Although I was very happy with the finished pieces I didn’t take the trouble to sew the seams.😳 The black skirt I wanted to wear it with didn’t fit me anymore (I deliberately lost weight), so I couldn’t bring myself to do it. Oops. But… that’s all in the past now, for I have not one but two skirts to go with it! A purple ánd black one! I have had numerous pairs of thrifted jeans in my stash for years but never figured out what to make with them. Originally it was to be a jacket but I already have a denim jacket I don’t wear much and I wanted something that would get a lot of use. I noticed that I wear my corduroy #truebiassalida all the time and realised that it was the perfect pattern. I didn’t think too much about colours, it mattered more which pattern pieces would fit on what I had. Somehow the dark and light panels worked out. Luckily I am small and the jeans were large so everything fitted easily. I even managed to salvage a waistband to finish it off. On the close up you can just about see the red topstitching done with a heavy Guterman thread Whilst the skirt is quite thick and doesn’t really drape, it is perfect for a cold damp winter with thick tights and boots. . . The instructions were very clear and easy to follow and it came together so nicely. I chose a stretch cotton corduroy in Indigo (amazing colour!) from the @minervadotcom core range which was a dream to work with. This is a garment I can wear all year long and combine with loads of blouses and shirts from my wardrobe. Now that I’m essentially at the last step, I’m stuck on the length. Should I keep it the original mid-calf? Or shorten it to just below knee length? I cut this out last October and needed to make a lot of adjustments to what I thought was a flawlessly adjusted pattern. This is a reminder to not wait as long to get sewing. The sew-along tutorials helped me fix some zipper mistakes I made on previous versions. You know when a piece of clothing lodges itself in your brain? Well last year I became obsessed by a leopard-print denim skirt from Ganni, so I attempted to recreate it using the #truebiassalida skirt pattern. It's not hugely close to the original but I'm pleased with the result! The @truebias Salida is a panelled skirt with a front and back yoke and a whole bunch of topstitching. Sadly, none of that detail is really visible in this leopard print needlecord but I like the shape it gives the final design. #salidaskirt

4 June 2024. The last round up of the #memademay2024 outfits. 1. Purple top with red sleeves - thrifted worn with @merchantandmills #clementineskirt 2. Blue daisy top @tillybuttons #stevietop sewn at one of my first sewing classes with @valleythreads_thestitchery with a black maxi skirt - pattern @valleythreads_thestitchery and a lilac @alinadesignco #hamptonjeanjacket made from bull denim from @blackbirdfabrics (expensive purchase but worth it for the quality and colour) 3. Orange #salidaskirt @truebias with @paulinealice_patterns #russafajacket in Kahari Japanese denim from @drapersfabrics - this is superb denim - great quality 4. Partial May make - purple #russafajacket - cuffs and waistband to go but very happy with the jacket so far. Could not skip past the purple denim. 5. Shot of the pink/purple waistband- invisible zip replacement- broke the zip - in the mending pile for about a year - almost donated it - then took the damaged zip out and replaced it. Good to go! Things I learned this May challenge: the value of altering and mending things. A new lease of life for otherwise unworn garments and it does not take long to do - so satisfying to fix stuff. Colour - love it and absolutely will be embracing it. Orange and purple are my favourite colours (no surprise there). Over winter I plan to tackle jeans. Lots of scary unknowns in that plus I think time to take out the fit book and look at refining the fit of garments.

The Salida skirt from @truebias has literally been on my planning for years. There was always something that came my way that had to be finished first. Now it finally happened! I sewed a size 4 without adjustments and it fits like a glove ❤️. And I’m crazy happy with it! The fabric is a thin denim that I bought a while ago in the sale at Cortina in Tessenderlo. (Swipe for front view) It’s one of my favourites makes ever and it was so much fun to make ☺️ I really enjoyed the process! The instructions were very clear and easy to follow and it came together so nicely. I chose a stretch cotton corduroy in Indigo (amazing colour!) from the @minervadotcom core range which was a dream to work with. This is a garment I can wear all year long and combine with loads of blouses and shirts from my wardrobe. Yay! 🥳 DE Wer hätte gedacht, dass es hier mal ein Bild von meinem Hintern zu sehen gibt 🤭 Aber ich liebe dieses Detail vom @truebias Salida skirt. (2. Bild zeigt die Frontansicht). Ich finde diesen Rock einfach nur genial und es hat richtig viel Spaß gemacht ihn zu nähen. You know when a piece of clothing lodges itself in your brain? Well last year I became obsessed by a leopard-print denim skirt from Ganni, so I attempted to recreate it using the #truebiassalida skirt pattern. It's not hugely close to the original but I'm pleased with the result! The @truebias Salida is a panelled skirt with a front and back yoke and a whole bunch of topstitching. Sadly, none of that detail is really visible in this leopard print needlecord but I like the shape it gives the final design. #salidaskirt

Spring calls for bright colors, right? The perfect time to finally make something with this purplish pink woolen herringbone fabric I bought 1-2 years ago, in a whim, I might add. A different color for a change felt good at the time! How splendid that this bright color 💕looks great with my newish light grey sweater. I made this elegant #lariatpullover by @yamagara last summer as part of the #lorjasummerkal by @made.by.lota and @knitting4compliments Although I was very happy with the finished pieces I didn’t take the trouble to sew the seams.😳 The black skirt I wanted to wear it with didn’t fit me anymore (I deliberately lost weight), so I couldn’t bring myself to do it. Oops. But… that’s all in the past now, for I have not one but two skirts to go with it! A purple ánd black one! And I closed the seams of my pullover.🎉 As for the black skirt: @suestoney and @sewing_in_spain of the #magamsewalong announced the theme for February #magamnofrillsfebruary and that seemed the perfect moment to sew a basic black skirt. So I made something new. A skirt, a shirt and an another shirt. Shirts are such a great staple in any wardrobe and good to wear in cooler weather that’s upon us. It occurred to me I didn’t have any. Why? Because of all these buttons and buttonholes, not my favourite thing to sew. That’s why I jumped at this new technique of sewing buttonholes posted by @sewcreativetazzi Check out the World’s Best Button Hole Stand on their feed. 👌 Once I made the first shirt I realized it was such a great fit that I had to make another. I love sewing on repeat to get a chance to improve when working with a new pattern. Therefore here come two shirts plus a third that is still in the making. I’ll post the second shirt soon, it is peaking behind in one of the photos. The shirt is #mccalls7575 version B nicely fitted with front and back vertical darts in addition to the bust darts. Made in craft cotton from @fabricland.canada My skirt is a very comfortable and a perfect length #salidaskirt by @truebias in corduroy also from Fabricland. Looking for a great upcycle project? Marlene @sleepykins used her step-dad's old jeans to make a Salida skirt and the end result is a perfectly worn in look that I love. This is the #truebiassalida skirt In upholstery fabric sourced at @fab_scrap I learned the hard way that if you don’t mark the front and back of your fabric pieces, you might get confused and serge the wrong side of the seam. Luckily, my serger threads are fun colors and I think it works as a design feature.
