How many times can you make the same thing before getting sick of it? I decided to simply size up to a 16. Raised the neckline by 1". I could have raised the underarm by 1/4" but I think I'll leave it at this for the next one. Yes, I'm tired of buttons holes and bias binding, but it is worth it to have finished products. Made baby girl a @truebias Southport dress. She loves maxi dresses and being 5 foot nothing makes it difficult to find one that fits her. I made my usual size 4 for her but shortened it by 4 inches. Sunny Southport 👗 . Getting ready for a summer trip when it's chilly outside is quite the contrast. I used this delightful two-sided double gauze, which I debated playing with. I kept this one simple with just contrast pockets and tie. . The waist tie is too long by a few inches, but otherwise, it's a simple and quick make. I struggled with buttonholes, so as advised by other sewists, I have faux buttons with poppers to keep things together. . I am making another one immediately in a similar blue gingham, AND I have a floral Viscose in my stash too. . #southportdress three. Hacked to a tank version until I get the fit right. For this one, I made a size 14, raised the underarm depth by 1/2" compared to my last version, which was too tight with a 3/4" raise. Kept the 1" raise at the neckline. My right side is thicker than my left, so it pulls just a bit, but nothing I really need to change. I could open that up and loosen the side seam by a tiny bit to decrease the pull. I also added 1/4" to the side seams for front and back. The overall feel is much better and more relaxed than the last one. Slowly getting there. Again, super impressed with the darts!

Posting every day of me made may was a bit of a bust this year, but I should have expected that traveling with a child 😜 Here’s a new make based off a vintage rtw dress, and hacked from my tried and true base, the #southportdress by @truebias. I really liked the side button placket feature, and added a tiny slit at the bottom for more dynamic “sitting down and getting up” activities. I also really liked the neckline finish as a facing sewn down instead of bias, and want to do more copying rtw patterns to learn more techniques for alternative finishing. I still need to add front pockets, as I find I’m needing them quite a bit, but love this little summery dress so far and want to make one in black denim or twill - just in time for winter! 😝 . We went to Idyllwild for a mini side trip from visiting family in LA with a toddler, and am SO happy we planned in downtime for recharging, and in such a unique place. The skirt and matching top were intended for that really hot summer weather we were going to get in the UK 😆 #iykyk The top is @lieslandco #laurelestopdress It’s a new pattern to me so the floral version was a muslin and made something very old from Mum’s stash. The sleeveless version is in a viscose which came from @drapersfabrics I know the fit isn’t perfect but both have been worn lots. The pattern has cup sizes and ranges from sizes 0-20. I made one of the larger sizes… The skirt is loosely based on the @truebias #southportdress I moved the front slit to two side slits, gave it an elasticated waist and added pockets which are attached at the waist for stability. I don’t know which size I made! I made the top and skirt to go together or separate after seeing lots of similar two pieces online. Let's get to know garment fabrics: This one I classify part of the rayon challis family ( I like to group fabrics, so easier for me to remember what they are). It behaves like a rayon challis if you have this in type of fabric in your stash or in your closet. Drapey,flowy, and great for blouses, tanks, dresses. What is important to think about in choosing fabrics is its sheer or not/ can it be used for top or bottom weight patterns, or both! This one is opaque- so it makes it great for flowy pants, skirts, shorts. It is a shifty fabric- so recommend trying this if you have already sewed with rayon challis first. If new to sewing: start with cottons (quilting cottons, poplins, lawns, and linens first. ) Cupro is a silky man made regenerated cellulose from cotton waste ( by product of cottonseed oil production) and a sustainable alternative to rayon fabrics. It has a hand similar to tencel and modal. Silky smooth and has a suede silky like hand. A breathable opaque fabric and if you were wanting something not as sheer as a rayon challis- consider this gem. Reveal day! I had the most amazing day with my family today at a gorgeous public garden. My sisters and I took our beautiful 93-year-old mom for a belated mother's Day event. She was so happy and so enjoyed seeing all the gorgeous gardens! She misses gardening so much. We are so blessed for everyday we get to spend with her! Because we all sew we decided to do a summer dress sew along. None of us knew what the other was making or what fabric we were using until we arrived! So fun! A fabulous day in a gorgeous dress 🥰 and I already have the fabric for my second version! This pattern is the #southportdress by @truebias, and I really enjoyed sewing this project 😊. The instructions were great, I do not recall questioning any step, so this was a great sewing experience 🤓! It is an intermediate level pattern, and I would agree with that - mainly due to the buttonholes and the bias binding. The rest of the dress is actually very easy to sew, so if you can practise those 2 techniques, you should be able to sew this pattern without any problem 🤗. This dress has been on my projects list for a while, so very pleased I could not only sew it, but also wear it straight away and on this gorgeous Summer day last month ! I made this dress yesterday in a linen rayon blend, and it's cute, but it's way too big at the top yet. I already sized down and took in an inch at the back. The neckline and arm holes are far too low for my liking. I don't think there's a way to solve that problem without remaking the entire bodice. 😕 If you're a XL - 1X and have a large chest (D or bigger) and want to try it on for purchase, let me know. My last #memademay2026 entry. (I am the one on the far right, holding a pink sweater.) I made the lovely #southportdress designed by @truebias. I used this lovely Pima cotton lawn called The Tropics, which I sourced from @beyond.thepinkdoor. She has such beautiful fabrics and is very customer oriented. Highly recommend! I made a few mods to the pattern: I faced the bodice instead of using bias tape, and raised the neck line by about an inch. I also raised the hem by 8”. I am fairly tall (5’9”), but it was still quite long after my alteration . But the perfect length for me! Photo is of me, my two sisters, and my mom. All three sisters made our own dresses, but did not share them until we got together for this big reveal day at Tower Hill Botanical Gardens in Boylston, MA. So much fun! Adjusted the size 14 as follows: Raised 1" at the neckline Raised 3/4" at the underarm Too tight now at the underarm, so I'll drop that by 1/4" and add 1/8" to each side seam to add a bit more width for comfort on the next one. This one is made using a thrifted cotton bedsheet, and although it's snug, I'll keep it in my closet for my future healthier self. I am so happy with how the darts sit at the bust. No crinkle or awkward points.

I made this True Bias #southportdress last month from an old linen maxi dress that I wasn’t loving any more. It’s shorter than I wanted but that’s only because I ran out of fabric. It’s a nice dress for the hot sweaty summer months and I’ll probably make another next year. Next time I’ll raise the neckline a couple of inches because it shows a bit too much skin when I lean over.

I normally gravitate toward skirts with more volume but contrary to the message my RBF is sending, I can tell this is going to be a summer staple 😊 Mods: took a half inch off the shoulder straps on the front and back. Me made May Day 28: my usual weekend instagram assistant is off at a volleyball tournament today and my tripod is at work so this was the best photo of my outfit that I could get today! I’m wearing a @truebias Southport dress that I made 7 years ago from @cloud9fabrics. I rediscovered this dress in a box at my mums house when I flew home last year. It was actually really cool to find a bunch of my early makes from my pre-uk days and really funny because I packed them away thinking I wouldn’t need summery clothes in the UK 😂. I love the Southport dress and have made it 4 or 5 times. I like the fit and the fact it looks good as a mini or maxi dress. My only complaint is that every maxi version I’ve made has needed repairing at the leg slit because I’ve ripped it every time I’ve napped while wearing it. First dress of the year 🤩 can’t believe it took me one and a half month before I sewed a dress. A new record in my book. Anyway, I fell in love with this muted tropical viscose fabric as soon as I saw it. There were only 90 centimeters left so I took it all! I also do love shorter dresses as well. It is hard for me not to notice that my fabric and yarn stashes have gotten a bit out of control. So this year I am really trying to use up my stash. It’s been fun going through what I have and figuring out what to do with it. More often than not, what I have been making is nowhere near what I had in mind when I originally purchased the yarn/fabric. ⁠ ⁠ This is my second Southport Dress from True Bias in some super lightweight rayon that I got eons ago from @lafinchfabrics_new. The fabric was a bit transparent so I lined it with a mystery lining-type fabric I found in my stash. As I was hemming the skirt lining I remembered that this particular piece of fabric is acetate that I bought to reline a winter coat. Oops. I’ve never been a huge fan of maxi length dresses on myself. I’m on the shorter side (5’3”) and most of the height I do have is in my torso. I’ve always just thought that this length dress called extreme attention to how short my legs are. Then for reasons still unknown to me I cut a #southportdress from @truebias in the maxi length. Maybe because I am using a tencel twill that I don’t particularly care for in the first place? I told myself that when I didn’t like how long it was I could just cut it off above the knee and use the excess fabric for something else. But you know what? I’m not cutting the dress off above the knee. Another me-made in the wild. I was obsessed at first sight with this satin viscose fabric from @emmaonesock , and immediately knew that I wanted to make the @truebias Southport. Reality matched my vision of a floaty, easy to wear but elevated maxi dress. I was stuck on the idea of adding sleeves, so with a little bit of research and bravery 😅 I drafted and added a simple flutter sleeve to the pattern. I also lengthened the slit by 3 inches. I have been slowly working on a button down linen shirt for my daughter but I needed a break (after my third attempt to sew the collar) and "snuck" in this quick make of the True/Bias Southport dress. Clear, easy to follow instructions and there is also a sew-along video available too! This dress is meant to be an easy fit with the drawstring waist. I did need to shorten the shoulder straps a little, but that is an alteration I almost always need to make on sleeveless dresses. I love the front slit detail and of course the pockets! I used a soft viscose twill from @minervadotcom which was perfect for this dress. I can't say enough about this fabric! I love it so much I bought it in two more colors! I normally gravitate toward skirts with more volume but contrary to the message my RBF is sending, I can tell this is going to be a summer staple 😊 Mods: took a half inch off the shoulder straps on the front and back. After the Roberts Wood dress it was nice to make something that came together quickly as a palate refresh. Even though we’re in mid Autumn here it’s quite warm (27 degrees Celsius today ☀️) so I chose the @truebias Southport dress as it’s sleeveless but has a long skirt option (and pockets!) I had been told by a couple of people they’d had fit issues when I shared it to my stores but I have to say it fits perfectly. I made a straight size 4 and only modified the skirt length to fit my height. It’s such a comfortable dress and really simple to put together. I did make a toile in the short version which I never do and I didn’t have to modify at all. Also am absolutely loving this @jeninuferu print fabric from @neridahansenfabrics which pairs so perfectly with this pattern. Second make of the weekend I started this True Bias Southport Dress last weekend it felt too big so I undid the bias binding at the shoulders 😳and took 2 inches off the shoulders it now fits perfect was very fiddly to sort out but I now know what modifications I need to make I also took 7 inches off the length it’s now just above the ankle which is easier to walk in. Me made May Day 28: my usual weekend instagram assistant is off at a volleyball tournament today and my tripod is at work so this was the best photo of my outfit that I could get today! I’m wearing a @truebias Southport dress that I made 7 years ago from @cloud9fabrics. I rediscovered this dress in a box at my mums house when I flew home last year. It was actually really cool to find a bunch of my early makes from my pre-uk days and really funny because I packed them away thinking I wouldn’t need summery clothes in the UK 😂. I love the Southport dress and have made it 4 or 5 times. I like the fit and the fact it looks good as a mini or maxi dress. My only complaint is that every maxi version I’ve made has needed repairing at the leg slit because I’ve ripped it every time I’ve napped while wearing it. First dress of the year 🤩 can’t believe it took me one and a half month before I sewed a dress. A new record in my book. Anyway, I fell in love with this muted tropical viscose fabric as soon as I saw it. There were only 90 centimeters left so I took it all! I also do love shorter dresses as well. I have been slowly working on a button down linen shirt for my daughter but I needed a break (after my third attempt to sew the collar) and "snuck" in this quick make of the True/Bias Southport dress. Clear, easy to follow instructions and there is also a sew-along video available too! This dress is meant to be an easy fit with the drawstring waist. I did need to shorten the shoulder straps a little, but that is an alteration I almost always need to make on sleeveless dresses. I love the front slit detail and of course the pockets! I used a soft viscose twill from @minervadotcom which was perfect for this dress. I can't say enough about this fabric! I love it so much I bought it in two more colors! A fabulous day in a gorgeous dress 🥰 and I already have the fabric for my second version! This pattern is the #southportdress by @truebias, and I really enjoyed sewing this project 😊. The instructions were great, I do not recall questioning any step, so this was a great sewing experience 🤓! It is an intermediate level pattern, and I would agree with that - mainly due to the buttonholes and the bias binding. The rest of the dress is actually very easy to sew, so if you can practise those 2 techniques, you should be able to sew this pattern without any problem 🤗. This dress has been on my projects list for a while, so very pleased I could not only sew it, but also wear it straight away and on this gorgeous Summer day last month ! I normally gravitate toward skirts with more volume but contrary to the message my RBF is sending, I can tell this is going to be a summer staple 😊 Mods: took a half inch off the shoulder straps on the front and back. Also did a #swayback adjustment - meaning I took a little length out of the back bodice by absorbing it into the seam allowance when I attached it to the skirt. TBH, I really didn’t feel like taking photos today but here I am skulking my way into Week 1 of #wearhappycolor2022 • With the war on Ukraine, Omicron raging through NZ and a personal health issue concerning me (and far more superficially, my hair was a mess) I wasn’t in the mood to be putting on a show in front of the camera. After the Roberts Wood dress it was nice to make something that came together quickly as a palate refresh. Even though we’re in mid Autumn here it’s quite warm (27 degrees Celsius today ☀️) so I chose the @truebias Southport dress as it’s sleeveless but has a long skirt option (and pockets!) I had been told by a couple of people they’d had fit issues when I shared it to my stores but I have to say it fits perfectly. I made a straight size 4 and only modified the skirt length to fit my height. It’s such a comfortable dress and really simple to put together. I did make a toile in the short version which I never do and I didn’t have to modify at all. Also am absolutely loving this @jeninuferu print fabric from @neridahansenfabrics which pairs so perfectly with this pattern. Today I cut the buttons off this #truebiassouthportdress that I started last summer. Why? Because it was too short for my comfort as a dress and I wouldn't wear it as a top. It was guilting me from the window and I finally had enough. The fabric was purchased at FabricMart in the retail store and I bought everything, so I spent less than $2 - it doesn't need to be finished and given away. It's okay to toss $2 worth of fabric. It is hard for me not to notice that my fabric and yarn stashes have gotten a bit out of control. So this year I am really trying to use up my stash. It’s been fun going through what I have and figuring out what to do with it. More often than not, what I have been making is nowhere near what I had in mind when I originally purchased the yarn/fabric. ⁠ ⁠ This is my second Southport Dress from True Bias in some super lightweight rayon that I got eons ago from @lafinchfabrics_new. The fabric was a bit transparent so I lined it with a mystery lining-type fabric I found in my stash. As I was hemming the skirt lining I remembered that this particular piece of fabric is acetate that I bought to reline a winter coat. Oops. Another me-made in the wild. I was obsessed at first sight with this satin viscose fabric from @emmaonesock , and immediately knew that I wanted to make the @truebias Southport. Reality matched my vision of a floaty, easy to wear but elevated maxi dress. I was stuck on the idea of adding sleeves, so with a little bit of research and bravery 😅 I drafted and added a simple flutter sleeve to the pattern. I also lengthened the slit by 3 inches.
