Today I am sharing my new Nikko Tops. I bought 1.5m of the cream and the black double brushed viscose fabric from @bornellafabrics which was enough to make one of each colour top. I also managed to get a third top which was half and half. I made the @truebias #nikkotop before my trip to Iceland. They were the perfect warm base layer! MeMadeMay day 12! I’m annoyed that it’s cold again (in May! Boo), but used the excuse to wear my favorite #mnwattleskirt. I dreamed about this skirt for so long - I wanted a warm skirt to wear during the winter and thought this pattern would be perfect, but needed the right fabric for it. It took a little while to find, but this deadstock wool from @stonemountainfabric is perfect! It has great drape and is super warm. Dress like a toddler // with a toddler . . . Truthfully I picked out this outfit for myself this morning (I wanted something bright and springy and warm and loose) then realized that I had an exact tiny copy for my tiny copy. As part of my current obsession with comfy sweatshirting, I bought some dark green tubular ribbing thinking I would use it as cuffs and neckband. However I ended up making a #nikkotop instead. It was a challenge to squeeze it out of only 1m and I ended up losing a few inches of length and doing the sleeves in two pieces so I could tessellate them. #patterntetris Full confession: I am currently wearing this full-time with my sweatshirt yantas but it does work really well with high waisted skirts too. My makes for the month of October! A little late, but still want to post it because I love how it’s become a record of my progress. This month was actually quite productive! Part of that I have to attribute to getting some patterns printed at the print shop rather than taping them together myself. For me, nothing is a bigger hinderance to sew-jo than the prospect of spending an entire evening cutting and taping. I figured I’d treat myself this month and have a handful of my up-and-coming project patterns printed and give myself a leg-up on actually getting to some of them, haha! In order, we have: - A grim reaper robe (no pattern, just made using my son’s size as a guide. First, Thank you all so much for the wonderful response to my swimsuit post earlier this week. Second, I meant to post this outfit yesterday but was busy getting my child off to school, helping my parents move appliances, and speed sewing a baby gift. This was my attempt at #sewhappycolor yesterday. Although it’s hard to tell in this photo, there are bits of orange in the flowers on my top. This winter I’ve been having fun layering my grey @truebias #nikkotop under my warm weather tops. As such, I decided I needed another one. This one made in bamboo french terry purchased from @pdxsewingstudio turned out to be a perfect match for my @annamariahorner rayon #1930sbutterflyblouse . While I love the way winter forces me to get creative with my wardrobe, I’m anxiously awaiting weather that allows me to throw on a simple summer dress without thinking.

Yesterday was a day of 2 tops… I had this super drapey (but with a bit of body) rayon knit from @dressew for a few years. It became a fabric I was afraid to cut into because once I did - no other possibilities remain 🤦‍♀️ Finally making the very close to the same colour corduroy up into an #S2443 jacket gave me the impetus to finally cut into this fabric. I had enough to make a short sleeved #NikkoTop and an #EightTee I’ve used both of these patterns before and it’s fun having 2 completely different looks in the same fabric and colour. So, the sun came out and out I went - scowling (unfortunately) to show off some recent makes 😆 (Totally annoying side fact: my remote shutter won’t work so these were all counting down with the timer. Hello February! It’s time to take a look at the January makes. These are the things I made for myself during the last month. I also made a few things as gifts, but I don’t have pictures of them.. Picture 1: a red viscose #wildergown that I had planned for Christmas, but didn’t have time for. I love it! I hacked the neckline with elastic and I wear it with a leather belt. Picture 2: a washed linen #v9347 that I put a lining into. I took the picture before I put the buttons on it, but they are in now. Fabric from the lovely @kjolesenteret Picture 3: my first #toastersweater , and I am totally in love with this. It is so nice and warm, and I just snuggle up in it. Mother and son turtlenecks for the fall. Will not push my luck by asking him to wear his at the same time....oh, let’s be honest, I probably will—but can’t imagine he’ll agree😜. Planning my first ever #makenine and given my output last year and the fact that Seattle remains locked down, I’m going to try to do a “make nine” each quarter of 2021. Sometimes I am just blown away by what my lovely customers do with their purchases! Early in the Spring @making.diary stopped in, searching for the perfect fabrics with which to create the vision she held for her mother of the groom ensemble. After putting together many combinations she chose a cotton/TENCEL/spandex jersey for the #nikkotop @truebias & a drapey Lyocell for the wide leg pants, #s8885. Channeling @alabamachanin she used their Magdalena stencil to airbrush the motif on her jersey, then did hand embroidery and reverse appliqué to complete the surface design. Working throughout the summer, “it was a labor of deep love for my son and new daughter’s wedding.” So fitting. This cold wintery day reminded me to post these photos from a few months ago. Unisex jacket pattern by @simplicity_creative_group #s9388 in size M. The fabric is wool blend from @joann_stores . The fit is nicely oversized fit, perfect over thick sweat underneath. After these photos were taken, I noticed the pocket bottom peaks from the hem when you put your hands in, so I attached it by thread chain to the side seam. First, Thank you all so much for the wonderful response to my swimsuit post earlier this week. Second, I meant to post this outfit yesterday but was busy getting my child off to school, helping my parents move appliances, and speed sewing a baby gift. This was my attempt at #sewhappycolor yesterday. Although it’s hard to tell in this photo, there are bits of orange in the flowers on my top. This winter I’ve been having fun layering my grey @truebias #nikkotop under my warm weather tops. As such, I decided I needed another one. This one made in bamboo french terry purchased from @pdxsewingstudio turned out to be a perfect match for my @annamariahorner rayon #1930sbutterflyblouse . While I love the way winter forces me to get creative with my wardrobe, I’m anxiously awaiting weather that allows me to throw on a simple summer dress without thinking.

Swimsuit part 2! Since I wanted 3 colors I had to buy 3 yards which meant enough fabric for multiple suits. Same patterns as before, a hacked up @truebias #nikkotop and @greenstyle_patterns #unpluggedshorts with additional modifications from my last set. I did accidentally mix my fronts so this rash guard is more blue and the other one is more purple, but to this one I added a built-in shelf bra so I don't have to wear over a bikini top, and since these are technically the liners of the unplugged shorts I added a brief liner. Now I have 4 different options between the two rash guards and two shorts I have made, plus one bikini top and I technically have another cut out although the built in bra in this rash guard means I really don't need to finish it. this #nikkotop by @truebias was interesting… 🪡 originally i had it with the normal mock neck, but for some reason (unlike the dress version i made recently) the neck was WAY too tight 🪡 i put a tank top on over the shirt and traced its neckline, cut 1/2” down to account for the neckband, and added a new neckband on 🪡 i also decided to shorten the sleeves as they came down to my elbow 🪡 overall, it came out better than i expected! very cute with this skirt and under overalls!

Finally feeling well enough to wear and get pics of my second #teddydress @mykeepernz in linen denim @wearethefabricstore I sized up for this one so I could wear as a pinafore style dress for winter. The Home Depot bucket was a paid actor. More views of my super thrifty #coetrousers made from two pairs of ‘men’s’ 44” waist Carhartt work jeans. These were of course, directly inspired by @saint.clairs.scissors and had been on my mind for a while. It took longer than expected to source two pairs of jeans that would be large enough and similar enough to make this work. The top is a #nikkotop with the crew neck hack that you can find online. Though I did this totally by eye before I knew there was a proper hack and the striped one from back in my feed was made using these instructions. Bag is #baggu obvs Clogs are @drmartensofficial I wore these for all of 20 minutes today to run an errand around the block. My body is very much still recovering (see previous post) and hard pants just isn’t it for me yet. Good thing I’ve made so many pairs of elastic are waist pants over the years! #memade #silversews

I grabbed a copy of this pants pattern the moment it was released - the Denton Pants by @carlyrobbinsnewyork . The slouch! The piping! The pockets! The shape! I just loved everything about the design. This version was supposed to be my toile, but I’m pretty pleased with how the pants turned out, so they have been moved into the wardrobe rotation. There’s plenty of room in these babies, so I decided to make a size S, but I think I could use the length of the M or even the L for a more relaxed vibe. Next time! I added thread chains to the bottom of the side seams so I can use optional ankle ties when I’m in the mood. It’s cold, and I needed some more warm tops, so I decided to use a remnant of merino and add some sleeves to the #dewtop to make something to keep me cosy at work! It was pretty straightforward to add the armscye of the Nikko top onto the Dew bodice, but I wish I had added a bit of length to the shoulder seam when I traced it off. I didn’t think about the fact that the Nikko is drafted to sit so close to the chest across the front, but the cowl neck from the Dew would benefit from a bit more fabric to decrease the tension created by the sleeves across the front bodice and help with the drape of the cowl. Lesson learned for next time! This has been another slow sewing year so far. I did go to Montreal in early May and found some bright, happy fabrics that I am now finding time to make up. I made up these #saguaroset pants in a slightly mysterious fabric from Tonitex. It has a bit of stretch, but is also a light, crepe-like texture. It's a great weight for a summer pant. I adjusted the width of the waistband for 1 inch elastic; I also lengthened the pants to be full length rather than cropped and finished with a deep hem. I made an XXL. . I paired these pants with an older make #nikkotop #memadeonrepeat

NIKKO & HATTIE - Me Made May Day 23! Today I didn’t feel like following a prompt, and just wanted to wear my new comfy pants. These are the @tianasclosetsewingpatterns #hattiepants. It’s one of the many free patterns she has available. I compared the crotch depth of these pants with the Saguaro pants, decided not to make any fit adjustments and went for it. And I’m happy! I did make some other adjustments: I omitted the side seam, decreased the seam allowance for attaching the waist band (used a 3 cm elastic) and added a drawstring. The fabric is a @atelierbrunette crepe that is super airy and I hope this too will be great to wear in hot and humid Malaysia! Sometimes, when I'm sewing a lot of stuff for other people, no matter if it is for presents or to sell, the sewing start to feel like a chore... I try to avoid this by sewing something for myself every in between the other projects, just to keep the spark going 😉💥 Luckily, turtlenecks only take about 1,5 hours to make, so it's perfect for an inbetweener project 🤗 and I wear these allllllll the time so truely a win-win! This was meant to be a quick and refreshing project in the midst of a very overwhelming few days. I sat down with my #marlosweater pattern and hack pieces for a nice simple sew; what ensued was an hour and a half of pulling-out-my-hair nonsense after wrong cut after cut, me busily re-imagining how this would work as my available fabric got less and less. Gah! Don’t do a hack in a hurry, folks. I had meant for this to be one solid piece (no seam) and about 2 inches longer, but I immediately cut it too short. Oops! At that point I had enough fabric to remedy things with a simple seam in the upper portion, but then I accidentally cut the back neckline wrong - forgetting to use the hacked neckline piece taken from the #nikkotop pattern*. Same thing with the front! Gah! Anyway, it ended up shorter than I wanted and has a seam across the top but I do love it. The seam is actually prob my fave part - a happy mistake. I’m still debating taking off the bottom ribbing and: a. adding a couple inches more of the sweatshirt fabric (so, another seam mid-sweatshirt) and then reattaching the ribbing or b. adding a couple inches more sweatshirt fabric and hemming it as is (no ribbing). #MeMadePacking: Honeymoon Edition In April, I went on my honeymoon to Paris, Athens, and Crete and took an almost exclusively #memade wardrobe with me. Both as carry-on only girlie and knowing that I didn’t want to carry a wheeled suitcase around, I packed everything in my Cotopaxi Allpa 35L and Courtney Duffle. Psychedelic velvet dress to say goodbye to winter and welcome spring 😅😅 You know I don’t sew prints very often. It’s not that I don’t like them but I am very picky about them. Plus I like to style and layer my outfits and having plain color clothes, checks or stripes makes it much easier. However when I saw this psychedelic print in stretch velvet from @audreyrobitaille_collection with the lilac and red stripes I just couldn’t pass.😅 And from up close it’s even more gorgeous and vibrant! This velvet is just so soft and plushy that I want to hug myself all the time 😂 I had another @truebias #nikkodress in mind when I ordered it a couple months ago and that’s what I ended up making. I absolutely love it! Same size and mods as previously: graded from 8 to 12 at the hips, raised the slit and left the armhole bands exposed for visual interest. This dress is such a quick make that usually acts as a palette cleanser for me😂 and i haven’t yet managed to make a non velvet version🤣🤣 It’s starting to become a signature I guess 🤷‍♀️. I think this dress enters my dopamine dressing category, and I am sure I will reach for it often when I feel like dressing more boldly and less demure. I loved the look with my silver boots! Day 6 of #memademay: It’s a 3 sport day today, so I grabbed a closet staple, a @truebias #nikkotop. I don’t recall where I ordered the fabric, but I really haven’t figured out how to cut/size a really stretchy rib knit. I thought not ironing was good since I wasn’t planning on ironing this after each wash. It was humongous. After ripping everything apart, I then ironed it and cut it a size or two down and it still feels a bit large in the shoulders/arms. For context, I’ve been wanting to throw a birthday disco for years but we didn’t have access to a good space for it. Things lined up this year so all my disco dreams came true! I’m so thankful for the friends who came together to help make this happen, and who embraced the theme so wholeheartedly 🪩💕 This might become a yearly thing! So for the dress, it’s a truly unholy mashup of the @edgewaterave #HannahTop, the @truebias #NikkoTop, and the #NikkoDress. I used the straps and top neckline from the Hannah, the fitted waist of the Nikko top, and the hips of the Nikko dress, but I flared the skirt slightly. I also added a built-in bra to the under-dress. These patterns are all meant for the same stretch percentage but have very different amounts of ease, so the grading was… creative 😅 The under dress is made of purple-burgundy matte Lycra from @dressew and the overdress is a showstopping metallic stretch mesh from @galafabrics. It shimmers and catches the light without heavy sequins or shedding glitter and the colour is just divine. January was very productive - I made four things!!!! This was the first. It's the @truebias #NikkoTop made in a tropical flower jersey. I think it's a scuba - it's been in my stash so long, I'm not sure. Anyway, as always with this pattern I needed to take some fabric out of the armscye, so I just added a dart after pinching out the excess. #nikkotop by @truebias and #talhighwaistedtrousers by @theassemblylineshop. Both fabrics from @remainderspas I was lucky enough to attend a coaching session with the amazing @freerangethinking at a recent @campowerment #minicamp. I was absorbing everything she was saying bc she is brilliant, but i was also distracted by her unique sweater. As us sewists tend to do, somewhat inappropriately… I asked her afterwards how it was constructed. Without hesitation, she pulled it off and let me study it. 💕 So I made the body and sleeves of a #truebiasnikkotop, doubled the collar so it could fold on itself and made a half cape-ish thing to overlay it. Yay! It turned out just as I hoped! It’s like wearing a blanket. Basically I cut a big rectangle, cut out the neck hole, attached it to the collar that was attached to the shirt and then hemmed it all up. I did slope the right shoulder down to mirror the slope of the shirt. I was aiming for some traditional looking khaki trousers, but my fabric choice is too thick and stiff so they don’t drape nicely. The Dani in lightweight corduroy.⁠ ⁠ As much as I love the Dani pattern sewn up in light weight linens and crepes during the summer, I equally love it sewn up in a light to medium weight corduroy for the colder months. The Riley Overalls are here! I got lots of questions when I wore these a few weeks ago, and felt bad being hush hush but I can finally share! These are the @truebias #rileyoveralls in a straight size 4 (which is the size that most closely corresponded to my waist & hip measurements 27.5” & 36”). I chose the shorts view with no mods. I was paid to test the pattern with no obligation to post. Unfortunately I tested positive for covid right before the testing window opened and worked on these while super sick so please don’t look too closely at my stitching 🫠 I used a thrifted cotton/blend canvas I got from @cleveroctopus. I also used dritz overall buckles and buttons from Joanns but they SUCK please run far far away from that crap and buy the good hardware. The pattern is awesome & although the million pattern pieces was daunting at first, it all came together really organically and I love the fit! Can’t wait to make the longer version soon! These dungarees took a month of Sundays to make, and it was worth every minute. It’s been a while since I shared any makes with you, and I’ve missed it. It’s partly due to making Christmas presents/things for other people, partly due to just not getting round to taking pics. Mostly it’s because I’m trying to slow down and take my time with each make to get a better finish. As part of this new effort to take my time and enjoy the process, I decided to finally get over my fear of topstitching. I dipped a toe in the water with a pair of modern sewer worker trousers (to share another day) and then I jumped right into the deep end with these dungarees with a lot of very visible topstitching 👀 It was daunting and it took forever but I’m so proud of how they turned out. These are my second pair of #rileyoveralls by @truebias . I was inspired by a khaki pair that Kelli shared back in the summer that I thought looked so great and versatile. I love True Bias designs because they are super functional but don’t scrimp on interesting details. They also have such clear instructions which makes a huge difference. Along with the dungarees I’m wearing a #nikkotop which is also a True Bias fave that I wear daily in winter.

Loving my new @truebias #truebiasblair skirt paired in the first photo with my hacked #truebiasroscoe and in the second with a new #truebiasnikko I’d seen various lovely versions of this skirt in all lengths and decided I had to have the pattern. I knew that I wanted to line my Blair so that there’s no chance of it sticking to tights and Kelli has helpfully included how to do that on the true bias blog - it’s super easy to do and I’d definitely recommend it. My outer fabric is a beautiful chocolate coloured corduroy from @merchantandmills and the lining is a Bemberg cupro from a store called Suasion Shop on eBay. The skirt comes in 3 lengths, but of course, you could sew any length you like. I sewed the maxi version and shortened it by 2” as it is very long (I think I would shorten future versions by 4” for an ideal length for me). For reference This pattern is drafted for a height of 5’5” and I’m 5’6”. I sewed the pattern according to my measurements a size 4 at the hips merging to a 2 at the waist and it’s perfect. I managed to cut the skirt out of 1.5m of 140 wide fabric (instead of the suggested 2m) and 1m of lining. I chose not to sew buttonholes down the entire length of the placket as there’s no way you would be able to walk in it if you were to button them all up - consequently I used the buttonhole markings for the knee length skirt rather than the maxi as I prefer the look without the extra buttons/buttonholes. As you would expect from True Bias the instructions are fabulous and there’s also a sew along. I’m excited to share my first makes of 2025! 🖤 This outfit has been taking shape in my mind for a while and I am so excited to have it realized because it is everything I had hoped for. I am really trying to focus on sewing more pants and skirts because I simply do not have enough bottoms in my closet. The Blair skirt from True Bias is SO GOOD! I am so happy I finally got around to making one. This is the mini version and was an extremely quick sew, especially because I skipped the pockets and button loops. It has beautiful finishing details inside. I know I am going to make many more versions of this. In fact, I already have the next one cut and ready to sew! The animal print lace top is inspired by something I saw online but now cannot for the life of me remember where. In any case, it was also extremely quick to whip up. Happy MeMadeMay! I haven’t participated in MeMadeMay before, and I’ve been thinking about why. I sew for many reasons, but creating a handmade wardrobe has never been a goal — it’s more of a byproduct. I choose my sewing projects purely on creative inspiration and impulse, which has always felt like the right antidote to my professional life as a scientist and program manager. But lately I’ve discovered that if I sew with no game plan for a while, I end up not really knowing my own wardrobe. I tend to wear the same 4-5 staples most days and leave the rest as “too special” for everyday wear. I also have a lot of wardrobe unicorns that don’t seem to go with anything else, so I don’t wear them often. I want to practice a more holistic, mindful approach to sewing. Therefore… I, Stacey, pledge to pull out all of my handmade items this month and identify: 1️⃣ Fresh combinations of colors and silhouettes. 2️⃣ Lessons learned while making and/or wearing each garment. 3️⃣ Missing basics that will make my wardrobe more cohesive. 4️⃣ Alterations or refashions for anything that’s not working. I will share some of my progress on IG when the spirit moves me. Today’s outfit: Nikko top from @truebias - Size 14 with a 5/8” sloped shoulder and 3/8” narrow shoulder adjustment. I also did a 1/2” FBA by adding length at the bust in the front only, then easing the excess into the side seam above the waist. Thanks to @wzrdreams for reviewing this pattern in stories a while back and mentioning the need for an FBA. Fabric is Chestnut ZQ merino jersey from @wearethefabricstore. Arden Pants from @helens__closet - Size 14, no adjustments although I plan to add some belt loops. Fabric is navy Nevada linen from @stonemountainfabric. This was my first project using heavyweight linen and it’s glorious. Very soft but durable. Shoes are @bryrclogs in fennel. Necklace is a recent gift from my mother in law. #memademay2025 and it’s Day 2. I wear me made everyday so this year, I’ll just be posting things that are new for me. By new that’s a new way of wearing, layering and extending the usefulness of a make I already have, or something I’ve sewn to fill a gap in my wardrobe - a repeat tried and tested memade. These are the #rubyoveralls by @helens__closet I’ve wanted a pair of overalls for ages and never made them thinking I just liked the idea of them but would I ever wear them? Haven’t taken these off unless they are in the wash since I finished making thrm. They have deep in seam pockets secured at the waist band (no drooping!) a comfy elastic back, semi fitted through the hip, and a wide leg. They work with a tee, a knit, a blouse… and layered under a jumper, so cosy. Cold has hit Sydney! Fabric is a medium weight cotton drill that will soften and fade with further wear. Size 10 although next time I would do a size 8. There is plenty of room to get in and out. I made only one mod which was to shorten the bodice to suit my height - all of Helen’s closet patterns come with such clear and extensive instructions for how to do this. Here are some tips for staying safe… ⚠️Low danger - this calls for a touch of high viz clothing, like this neon yellow slip dress ⚠️⚠️Moderate danger - exercise more caution and up the high viz content by adding a neon yellow blazer ⚠️⚠️⚠️High danger - biatch, throw everything you have at it and choose head to toe high viz with a dress, blazer and neon yellow top Fabrics Dress and blazer: Neon yellow crepe Top: Neon yellow burn out knit Both from @theremnantwarehouse (Alex Perry deadstock) Buttons: Beautifully made ring edge buttons from @buttonmaniac Patterns: Blazer: #v1870. As far as blazers go, this is a pretty easy and straightforward pattern, with nice modern lines. But the cut and techniques are no match for the Vikisews and DP Studio blazer patterns I’ve previously made. I think I will round off the front bottom edge, as I don’t like how it’s sitting (I probably should have used a heavier interfacing). Top: Tried and true #nikkodress top version Dress: Vintage vogue #v2859 @simplicitymccallsaustralia . This pattern has been in my stash forever and it is beautiful. I didnt follow the instructions, as they called for some unusual (maybe just old fashioned) techniques, like overlapping and top stitching pieces together (I sewed the seams in the usual ‘right sides facing’ manner), binding edges (I faced and lined the dress) and inserting side snap closures (I substituted for a centre back zip). I shortened the dress and also changed the bust gathers in the front bodice to a single dart for a more modern line. I will absolutely be sewing this pattern again, maybe in a more elegant colour. In closing: I think I am suffering from a very impractical neon yellow obsession. I have left over fabric and can’t stop thinking about making matching pants, even though I am pretty certain I will NEVER wear them…

It’s a great winter dress and a perfect layering piece. After finding myself reaching for the other one constantly, I decided to make a second and I love how it’s comfy and polished at the same time. Skirt on and skirt off. I have a hidden dress under my skirt (giggles). I love to make more outfits with the same pieces of clothing. So for my last project I decided to make a plissé skirt and show how much wear out you can have out of one single item. But I also can show you how to wear a dress as a top. Vous devez vous dire mais elle fait quoi Agnès en robe pull et cuissardes sous ses cocotiers 😂 et bien il était temps de vous dévoiler au fur et à mesure le contenu de la valise d’hiver lors de mon séjour à Paris pour le #CSF2023 cousu depuis Novembre. Je n’ai pas eu l’occasion de prendre en photo mes cousettes d’hiver dans le froid parisien (à part mon manteau Lana déjà sur le feed) et comme il aurait été dommage de ne pas les mettre en lumière, vaille que vaille j’ai ressorti mes tenues d’hiver, les bottes et l’amoureux a photographié tout ça mais sous les cocotiers. Le décalage décor/cousette de mes prochains posts est donc de mise autant vous le dire 😂 La #nikkodress de @truebias était pour moi incontournable lorsque j’ai décidé des tenues que j’allais me coudre pour ce séjour hivernal. J’en ai d’ailleurs cousu 2, la 2éme est un hack que je vous montrerai bientôt. Une robe noire est aussi un must have dans mes valises quelle que soit la saison. La jolie maille RUSH sur laquelle j’avais craqué lors de mon passage à l’entrepôt de @la_tissutheque.de.charlie en juillet dernier, s’est imposée comme une évidence. Big merci à ma Roberte et à ma Lolo pour ces pépites. Cette maille est d’une douceur! Une impression de cashemire. A quick make yesterday afternoon for @scarpickard for her mini break. And I’m really pleased with the result even tho I do say so myself! 😜 A hacked Nikko dress from @truebias I picked this lovely striped jersey up from @susans_work_basket in Attleborough when I was in Norfolk a couple of weeks ago. The staff in the shop were very friendly and helpful and they had a good range of dress fabrics. Pattern alterations were to lower and widen the neckline and add a narrow neckband omitting the turtle neck (too hot to wear in this heat wave we are having) I also added armhole bands instead of doing a facing. The dress was also shortened to just above the knee. It was a quick make and I will be making a couple more. The next one will have a bigger neckline and I am going to lower the armholes a little. Coming back from an unintentional posting hiatus with a dress that makes me very happy: the disco gown! For context, I’ve been wanting to throw a birthday disco for years but we didn’t have access to a good space for it. Things lined up this year so all my disco dreams came true! I’m so thankful for the friends who came together to help make this happen, and who embraced the theme so wholeheartedly 🪩💕 This might become a yearly thing! So for the dress, it’s a truly unholy mashup of the @edgewaterave #HannahTop, the @truebias #NikkoTop, and the #NikkoDress. I used the straps and top neckline from the Hannah, the fitted waist of the Nikko top, and the hips of the Nikko dress, but I flared the skirt slightly. I also added a built-in bra to the under-dress. These patterns are all meant for the same stretch percentage but have very different amounts of ease, so the grading was… creative 😅 The under dress is made of purple-burgundy matte Lycra from @dressew and the overdress is a showstopping metallic stretch mesh from @galafabrics. It shimmers and catches the light without heavy sequins or shedding glitter and the colour is just divine. Neither of them are my best sewing, but the process encapsulated everything I want to do at 29: embrace learning, do things with the potential to fail, and most importantly, find the fun 🪩💃🕺🪩 Thanks to @alerialeria and @catreynoldsphoto for capturing the vibe of this dress/night so perfectly xoxo #sewing #handmadewardrobe #memade

We’ve been dying to see a dress made up in this Liberty Poppy Viscose Jersey and @betty_sewandsew’s did not disappoint! We love the simple shape (the @truebias Nikko) to show off the print and movement of this special fabric. So cool 🌟 This viscose jersey has a sporty piqué style of weave and it’s pure viscose fibre content gives it a super slinky drape. It feels smooth and breathable, slightly mesh-like but magically not see through. It’s a fabric that we sourced directly from Liberty who used it to create their own garments. We’ve never seen a Liberty print on a base cloth like this before and it really is very beautiful. Use it for tops too (Rosie has one already!) and all kinds of skirt and dresses. My second attempt at copying an outfit I found on Pinterest. On the left is a cute little jersey dress which caught my eye a few months ago. On the right is my attempt using the #nikkodress The only adjustments I made is to make the dress more fitted (taking away the side splits too), and creating a scooped neckline which I bound in the same way the armholes are. The fabric is a Ponte jersey which is more forgiving on the lumps and bumps. Psychedelic velvet dress to say goodbye to winter and welcome spring 😅😅 You know I don’t sew prints very often. It’s not that I don’t like them but I am very picky about them. Plus I like to style and layer my outfits and having plain color clothes, checks or stripes makes it much easier. However when I saw this psychedelic print in stretch velvet from @audreyrobitaille_collection with the lilac and red stripes I just couldn’t pass.😅 And from up close it’s even more gorgeous and vibrant! This velvet is just so soft and plushy that I want to hug myself all the time 😂 I had another @truebias #nikkodress in mind when I ordered it a couple months ago and that’s what I ended up making. I absolutely love it! Same size and mods as previously: graded from 8 to 12 at the hips, raised the slit and left the armhole bands exposed for visual interest. This dress is such a quick make that usually acts as a palette cleanser for me😂 and i haven’t yet managed to make a non velvet version🤣🤣 It’s starting to become a signature I guess 🤷‍♀️. I think this dress enters my dopamine dressing category, and I am sure I will reach for it often when I feel like dressing more boldly and less demure. I loved the look with my silver boots! I have entered the age of the Nikko! Late to the party on this one for sure. I dithered about this pattern for years, but then when I had decided I was heading back to the UK in Winter, it finally felt like time to get on with it. I started making winter projects to wear when I got back way back in the NZ spring so I was super chuffed to finally wear this one today as it has sat patiently waiting. And I have loved it! So glad I finally got on board! ___________________________________ Pattern : #nikkodress by @truebias Fabric: merino Jersey from @wearethefabricstore Adjustments: this is a size 14 dress length with sleeves. I took 1cm from the shoulder width and shortened the sleeves. No other adjustments. ___________________________________

New makes! Im out wearing an #elizatrenchcoat and #nikkodress. It was nice to work on them as a form of escape from my regular work, which really buried me the past few months. Unfortunately, neither one turned out as well as I’d hoped—I’ll explain. Coat woes… The dye: The trench coat fabric dye was not set well. The whole time sewing, my fingers turned blue. I could have sworn I pre washed it, and even after I washed it again, the dye kept rubbing onto my fingers. Next time, I’ll try adding some salt to the wash, which apparently helps, though the fabric has already faded in parts. I purchased it as deadstock, and I guess that’s why a brand couldn’t use it. Other issues: didn’t sew the welts correctly 🙄 the lining I chose seems a bit too heavy as a fabric compared to the shell, so it tugs at the bottom. 🫤 the top button hole gave me lots of troubles. Yet, I still love it and I’m already wearing it out! It was also my first complete project on my recently acquired vintage Pfaff 362, which works like magic, so it will likely remain a nostalgic make for me. The dress: the edges are wavy—a common issue with ribbed knit. I read about how to troubleshoot this, and went ahead without taking precautions or following the stabilizing strategies, other than lowering the tension. My bad. As with the coat: this won’t stop me from wearing it It’s super cozy, and I love the green color. Its a welcome addition to my wardrobe. I recently made another #nikkodress by @truebias, this time in a thick wool. It’s amazing! I wore it today with my #holidayslipover by @petiteknit and it kept me warm. My walking foot was still attached to my machine when I sewed this and it made everything go smoothly. Again, fabric is from @gammatextile aka Tissus St-Hubert. 🐑

It’s been a busy few months and I have almost no time to sew right now. But I have a couple weeks of break so I finally got to do this projet that I’m been wanting to bang out for awhile, the @truebias #nikkodress. The fabric is a wool jersey from @sacres_coupons and ya’ll, this dress is basically like wearing a blanket. I graded between bust 6-waist 4-hip 10 with the full turtleneck hack on Kelly’s blog. I also eliminated the side slits and replaced them with a back slit for personal preference, as I find that side slits often don’t lay flat and the fabric flaps around. ✨Happy New Year! ✨ Today I started off the new year with some new sewing students! Both were learning how to use their sewing machines for the first time. One was a refurbished older Janome machine and one was a brand new Brother machine. Old or new, no matter what brand of machine I can teach you how to use it! Life update We are expecting a second child in May. I haven't felt like doing a pregnancy announcement but most of my sewing lately is focused on trying to fill gaps in my maternity wardrobe. All is going well, we are happy and healthy but Instagram is feeling more and more alien to share such private things. But to be honest it is becoming ridiculous to try and take photographs of my makes without showing the bump. So here we go, some maternity sewing for you. As my son was born in August, last time I didn't need any cold weather clothes and mainly wore standard, loose-fitting dresses. This time around I quickly realised that I needed some additional clothes. Supplementing two pairs of second hand maternity jeans, I wanted to focus on skirts and dresses. Catching up on Me Made May 😎. I’m pretty happy with how this Nikko Top body con dress turned out. Once all the fabric pieces are cut, it’s a fun sew! Fabric: 1.5m medium weight bamboo rib knit @blackbirdfabrics Pattern: Nikko Top (View A) @truebias Pattern modifications: I extended the length by almost 2’ —@truebias has a tutorial on their blog for this; left the armhole facing out instead of sewing in. Added a slit to the side. I love this pattern + dress combo. It’s SO COMFY, I can live in it. It’s a good dress for goofing around. Chloe, our black loves it, too. She likes being carried around and has taken a liking to certain fabrics I wear. 😸 I’ve been slowly building up my garment-sewing skills this month. I’m proud of this make—it made me crush my “fear” of/aversion to working with knit fabrics. Truth: It was more fear of the unknown—different needles, using clear elastic or stretchy tape to stabilize, different stitches. Adding to the challenge, I also had to redo the entire dress because the previous style (long sleeves and loose fit) just didn’t work for me. That meant ripping a ton of stretch and overlock stitches, which is a process I dislike. It’s part of why I avoid alterations, but I am trying to learn to make modifications for a better fit and I didn’t want to waste the beautiful fabric (plus it’s not cheap). A quick make yesterday afternoon for @scarpickard for her mini break. And I’m really pleased with the result even tho I do say so myself! 😜 A hacked Nikko dress from @truebias I picked this lovely striped jersey up from @susans_work_basket in Attleborough when I was in Norfolk a couple of weeks ago. The staff in the shop were very friendly and helpful and they had a good range of dress fabrics. Pattern alterations were to lower and widen the neckline and add a narrow neckband omitting the turtle neck (too hot to wear in this heat wave we are having) I also added armhole bands instead of doing a facing. The dress was also shortened to just above the knee. It was a quick make and I will be making a couple more. The next one will have a bigger neckline and I am going to lower the armholes a little. Birthday Nikko dress made in stretch velvet inspired by the lovely @junolovesthread and @truebias — took a bit to get the fit right bc this fabric has less stretch than is recommended and I needed to get it over my head! It’s about 33% horizontal stretch - a poly stretch velvet from @joann_stores. I would love to find a non-polyester stretch velvet if I made it again. I made a 12 in the neck, arms and chest, a 6 in the waist (I also raised the waistline 1”), and an 8 hip. I raised the slit by 5” and added that 5” back to the bottom to keep the length. I ended up splitting the back pattern piece into two thinking I would take it in there but ended up not doing it—though I like having the back seam there so I can tell which side is the front and which is the back! 🤪 My measurements at present are 35”b, 28.5”w, 39”hip, and 5’7” tall. My last makes of 2023. I had intended for this to be my Christmas dress. An easy Nikko that I could whip up quickly before traveling for the holidays. Nope. This was my third attempt at a Nikko dress and I’ve just had a hard time with the fit, specifically in the back (last vid). Too much fabric. I tried taking it in on the side seams but it wasn’t enough. Ultimately, I didn’t have it figured out before traveling so. I guess it’s a New Years dress. I’ve realized I need to cut the Nikko back in two pieces so I can take out extra fabric using the back seam. Or find a different pattern for a long, fitted, knit dress. But for now, I’m okay with a matching set. //Pattern: Top is a mashup of the #truebiasrio bodice, size 10, with #truebiasnikko sleeves, size 8. The skirt is the #truebiasnikkodress, originally size 8 but I took in quite a bit on the side seams before chopping the skirt off. //Mods: I chopped the skirt off a few inches above the waist, folded over and stitched the top, and slid in 3” elastic. I had to cut out a new top bodice since I chopped the skirt high up into the shirt area. I decided I didn’t want the mock neck so I chose to use the Rio in a larger size so it would be a little looser. I didn’t have enough fabric to also cut out new sleeves so I used the sleeves from the dress, which needed to be slightly stretched to fit the Rio armholes. //Fabric: Houndstooth wool/knit blend from @madewithharmony that is softer than I expected. Catching up on posting some me mades, mostly because I want to eternalize fit notes on the Daphne Maxi dress for myself! #1 - #daphnemaxidress @sewing.masin this was my second Daphne after the white dress. I really wanted to make a version with spagetti straps instead of the puffy sleeves and I feel in love with this abstract fabric from Joann (RIP, I left with the entire bolt though!) so it was meant to be! I made a size A bodice with a size C back panel and widened the skirt dimensions to 35” x 41” instead of 29” x 41”. Spaghetti straps were cut on the bias 13.5” long and attach at the points. #2 - my first Daphne maxi dress! Love this pattern. And I think the bodice could seriously be used as a starting point to make so many more garments. This one was a size B bodice with the back panel taken in some (likely ended up being a size A width back panel). I really do fall in between sizes for this one so I can’t decide which fit I like better. But this one ended up being a little more loose. Might be because the cotton is heavier and it’s lined. Skirt panels also widened to 35” here and lengthed to 49” (photo pre hem) #3 - another @petitestitchery #jessicaskirt mini version with hacked shorts underneath to match my @fridaypatterncompany #arlotrackjacket in @blackbirdfabrics organic cotton sweatshirt fleece & ribbing. I later lowered the slit (which earlier I’d raised from the pattern specs for my velvet maxi dress) because it didn’t really fit the vibe or the lay of the fabric. Sewn in a med/heavy French terry knit (brushed) - 95% cotton/5% elastane that was sooooo lovely and stable to sew with from @fiveeighth here in Chs. #Seraflex thread which I highly recommend for sewing knits on a standard sewing machine. Spontaneous Nikko Dress! Last week, while I was preparing projects for my sewing weekend, I went through my fabric stash. Sometimes, when I'm sewing a lot of stuff for other people, no matter if it is for presents or to sell, the sewing start to feel like a chore... Another cosy January sew! This is my fourth go at the #nikko pattern by @truebias it’s such a great one for colder weather and very easy to make bump friendly as it already has a good amount of ease. I made it a size up from my previous Nikko’s just to allow a little more room over the coming weeks and months but this should still work well for post pregnancy. The fabric is from @ladymcelroyfabrics and is a beautiful chain cable knit in mink. I ordered 1.5m and still had enough to make for the dress version of nikko. The pattern recommendations feel a bit on the generous side for how much you need! I wore this out last week with my me-made vegan leather biker jacket (➡️to see) and felt so good AND so warm! This is my fourth #odgencamihack and it might be my favorite. //Pattern: #truebiasogden hack by @truebias, size 6. //Mods: Lengthened the bodice to a *certain* amount. Somewhere in the realm of 45ish”. There’s a slit about 10” from the bottom on either side seam. I also topstitched the neckline and around the arms because understitching just wasn’t cutting it. //Fabric: Cupro twill from @madewithharmony. It was in the remnant basket and I immediately knew it would be the perfect slip dress for all seasons. I love how it floats over my body without being boxy. Normally I’d want a waist tie with this silhouette, but this doesn’t need it. This is a slippery fabric that I honestly just didn’t stress about getting it perfect because I would lose my mind if I did stress about it. January was very productive - I made four things!!!! This was the first. It's the @truebias #NikkoTop made in a tropical flower jersey. I think it's a scuba - it's been in my stash so long, I'm not sure. Anyway, as always with this pattern I needed to take some fabric out of the armscye, so I just added a dart after pinching out the excess. ♡ WHICH PATTERN(S) DO YOU WEAR THE MOST? ♡ For me that question is a close call! If you ask me which pattern I've made the most, it's between the #baypants from @_beletoile_ and the #nikkotop from @truebias . Loving my new @truebias #truebiasblair skirt paired in the first photo with my hacked #truebiasroscoe and in the second with a new #truebiasnikko I’d seen various lovely versions of this skirt in all lengths and decided I had to have the pattern. I knew that I wanted to line my Blair so that there’s no chance of it sticking to tights and Kelli has helpfully included how to do that on the true bias blog - it’s super easy to do and I’d definitely recommend it. My outer fabric is a beautiful chocolate coloured corduroy from @merchantandmills and the lining is a Bemberg cupro from a store called Suasion Shop on eBay. The skirt comes in 3 lengths, but of course, you could sew any length you like. I sewed the maxi version and shortened it by 2” as it is very long (I think I would shorten future versions by 4” for an ideal length for me). For reference This pattern is drafted for a height of 5’5” and I’m 5’6”. I sewed the pattern according to my measurements a size 4 at the hips merging to a 2 at the waist and it’s perfect. I managed to cut the skirt out of 1.5m of 140 wide fabric (instead of the suggested 2m) and 1m of lining. I chose not to sew buttonholes down the entire length of the placket as there’s no way you would be able to walk in it if you were to button them all up - consequently I used the buttonhole markings for the knee length skirt rather than the maxi as I prefer the look without the extra buttons/buttonholes. As you would expect from True Bias the instructions are fabulous and there’s also a sew along. Happy MeMadeMay! I haven’t participated in MeMadeMay before, and I’ve been thinking about why. I sew for many reasons, but creating a handmade wardrobe has never been a goal — it’s more of a byproduct. I choose my sewing projects purely on creative inspiration and impulse, which has always felt like the right antidote to my professional life as a scientist and program manager. But lately I’ve discovered that if I sew with no game plan for a while, I end up not really knowing my own wardrobe. I tend to wear the same 4-5 staples most days and leave the rest as “too special” for everyday wear. I also have a lot of wardrobe unicorns that don’t seem to go with anything else, so I don’t wear them often. I want to practice a more holistic, mindful approach to sewing. Therefore… I, Stacey, pledge to pull out all of my handmade items this month and identify: 1️⃣ Fresh combinations of colors and silhouettes. 2️⃣ Lessons learned while making and/or wearing each garment. 3️⃣ Missing basics that will make my wardrobe more cohesive. 4️⃣ Alterations or refashions for anything that’s not working. I will share some of my progress on IG when the spirit moves me. Today’s outfit: Nikko top from @truebias - Size 14 with a 5/8” sloped shoulder and 3/8” narrow shoulder adjustment. I also did a 1/2” FBA by adding length at the bust in the front only, then easing the excess into the side seam above the waist. Thanks to @wzrdreams for reviewing this pattern in stories a while back and mentioning the need for an FBA. Fabric is Chestnut ZQ merino jersey from @wearethefabricstore. Arden Pants from @helens__closet - Size 14, no adjustments although I plan to add some belt loops. Fabric is navy Nevada linen from @stonemountainfabric. This was my first project using heavyweight linen and it’s glorious. Very soft but durable. Shoes are @bryrclogs in fennel. Necklace is a recent gift from my mother in law. I sewed a whole fall wardrobe over my summer break and now it’s finally getting worn. Very happy to report that all five pieces have been in heavy rotation, but I didn’t feel like taking photos and kept putting that off. This is my first #TrueBiasNikkoDress and I made it to wear with all my nice long cardigans, but I like it on its own too. The fabric, a ribbed cotton jersey, was always intended for a Nikko top, but I saw a couple of dresses that looked really good when I was browsing the hashtags for inspiration and so I managed to get a dress out of 1.3 metres of fabric. Another good experience with sewing a @truebias pattern.

Birthday Nikko dress made in stretch velvet inspired by the lovely @junolovesthread and @truebias — took a bit to get the fit right bc this fabric has less stretch than is recommended and I needed to get it over my head! It’s about 33% horizontal stretch - a poly stretch velvet from @joann_stores. I would love to find a non-polyester stretch velvet if I made it again. I made a 12 in the neck, arms and chest, a 6 in the waist (I also raised the waistline 1”), and an 8 hip. I raised the slit by 5” and added that 5” back to the bottom to keep the length. I ended up splitting the back pattern piece into two thinking I would take it in there but ended up not doing it—though I like having the back seam there so I can tell which side is the front and which is the back! 🤪 My measurements at present are 35”b, 28.5”w, 39”hip, and 5’7” tall. I’m calling this one “Perfect is the enemy of good”. At beginning of this project I had such strong ideas of how this dress was going to be the perfect winters day dress. As I started to make it I realised it wasn’t turning out quite as perfectly as I wanted, and spent many hours annoyed at it and trying to unpick. My husband is always telling me that perfect is the enemy of good and that I need to stress less about the tiny details and appreciate what I’ve done well (this “helpful” insight usually just makes me more annoyed). After spending about 12 hours on a dress that should have be just a few hours work, I accepted he was right this time. The pattern I used to make this is the Nikko dress from @truebias. It compasses all my must haves for winter (warm neckline, long sleeves, looks like you’ve made an effort but it’s just tights and a dress pulled over the top) and therefore I’m a big fan! The fabric I used for this is a rescued knitted wool from @fabricgodmother. They had a very limited supply of wool that was made from collecting lots of excess from Italian wool mills and turning it into fun fabrics. With only a very small number of meters of each design I love knowing that this dress is truly unique! It’s super cosy for the winter and the colours are perfectly me. I think my main issue here has been the fabric and pattern choice probably weren’t right together. I wanted a very fitted long dress, but in hindsight the fabric was never going to make that. That said, I still love the fabric and pattern! I ended up having to bringing in the side seams 8cm each side and half the width of the shoulders, and it’s still bagging in lots of places. I could spend another 10 hours trying to perfect it, but I suspect it will end up looking back like this again because of the stretch of the wool. Also got new glasses from @iolla, and well done to anyone who’s noticed we’ve decided to redecorate after being in our house for 3 years! Continuing my exploration of stretchy fabrics. This is a viscose ponte from @fabricgodmother. The pattern is the Nikko dress from @truebias. I took 1 cm off the neck depth and a few off the waist. It was an experiment to see how horizontal stripes would work when you've wide hips, but as long as the dress is long enough its very flattering. Vous devez vous dire mais elle fait quoi Agnès en robe pull et cuissardes sous ses cocotiers 😂 et bien il était temps de vous dévoiler au fur et à mesure le contenu de la valise d’hiver lors de mon séjour à Paris pour le #CSF2023 cousu depuis Novembre. Je n’ai pas eu l’occasion de prendre en photo mes cousettes d’hiver dans le froid parisien (à part mon manteau Lana déjà sur le feed) et comme il aurait été dommage de ne pas les mettre en lumière, vaille que vaille j’ai ressorti mes tenues d’hiver, les bottes et l’amoureux a photographié tout ça mais sous les cocotiers. My last makes of 2023. I had intended for this to be my Christmas dress. An easy Nikko that I could whip up quickly before traveling for the holidays. Nope. This was my third attempt at a Nikko dress and I’ve just had a hard time with the fit, specifically in the back (last vid). Too much fabric. I tried taking it in on the side seams but it wasn’t enough. Ultimately, I didn’t have it figured out before traveling so. I guess it’s a New Years dress. I’ve realized I need to cut the Nikko back in two pieces so I can take out extra fabric using the back seam. Or find a different pattern for a long, fitted, knit dress. But for now, I’m okay with a matching set. //Pattern: Top is a mashup of the #truebiasrio bodice, size 10, with #truebiasnikko sleeves, size 8. The skirt is the #truebiasnikkodress, originally size 8 but I took in quite a bit on the side seams before chopping the skirt off. //Mods: I chopped the skirt off a few inches above the waist, folded over and stitched the top, and slid in 3” elastic. I had to cut out a new top bodice since I chopped the skirt high up into the shirt area. I decided I didn’t want the mock neck so I chose to use the Rio in a larger size so it would be a little looser. I didn’t have enough fabric to also cut out new sleeves so I used the sleeves from the dress, which needed to be slightly stretched to fit the Rio armholes. //Fabric: Houndstooth wool/knit blend from @madewithharmony that is softer than I expected. Recent me-made sewing projects. Getting back in my studio and into the groove of sewing for myself again has been so rewarding. It’s still a huge part of my self-care and continues to help me in my recovery. After years of hating my body, wanting to change and punish it just for being; I’m learning to respect it. To know that it’s my one safe home that I deserve to honor and nourish. To know it is just a vessel for all the actually important things I am outside of appearance. Day 6 of #memademay: It’s a 3 sport day today, so I grabbed a closet staple, a @truebias #nikkotop. I don’t recall where I ordered the fabric, but I really haven’t figured out how to cut/size a really stretchy rib knit. I thought not ironing was good since I wasn’t planning on ironing this after each wash. It was humongous. After ripping everything apart, I then ironed it and cut it a size or two down and it still feels a bit large in the shoulders/arms. I made this in #meetmilkfabric ribbed knit from #guthrieghani in the colour described as "shell". This top is definitely a success story! I love the fabric, which is a perfect match for this pattern, with just the right amount of stretch. I'm sure to get loads of wear out of this. Obsessed with this @measurefabric gorgeous classic stripe, it’s feels a little bit nautical and a little bit fall, and somehow bright and moody at the same time. Italian red/navy/cream striped rib knit is thick and sweater-y. The percent of stretch took me by surprise, very high, so plan on downsizing! Finally finished sewing up my ‘Weird Fabric’ I got from @stitch_fabric1 - there was only 1m left on the bolt so I knew it would be a challenge but decided on the #seamworkdani pinafore. I tested out the fit first on some old fabric and quickly realised I needed a #swaybackadjustment but that was the only one. I made the size 12 bust and graded to a 14 waist and hip. I ended up not taking anything off the length as I had read that it comes up short and even after doing a bias bound hem it’s only just decent and I’m only 5ft 3inches tall! I decide that the pockets were way too small so ended up removing them and next time I would increase the size. I whipped up a #truebiasnikkotop using a rib knit from @beyond.thepinkdoor in a lovely navy. January was very productive - I made four things!!!! This was the first. It's the @truebias #NikkoTop made in a tropical flower jersey. I think it's a scuba - it's been in my stash so long, I'm not sure. Anyway, as always with this pattern I needed to take some fabric out of the armscye, so I just added a dart after pinching out the excess. A moment on the feed for this make! 🔥 I wanted a bodysuit I could wear as a summer basic as well as to my aerial classes. I had the vision of turning the #truebiasnikkotop into a bodysuit so I hacked it together with the #utnathaliebodysuit bottom for a full bottom fit that would provide lots of room for movement. #nikkotop by @truebias and #talhighwaistedtrousers by @theassemblylineshop. Both fabrics from @remainderspas I was lucky enough to attend a coaching session with the amazing @freerangethinking at a recent @campowerment #minicamp. I was absorbing everything she was saying bc she is brilliant, but i was also distracted by her unique sweater. As us sewists tend to do, somewhat inappropriately… I asked her afterwards how it was constructed. Without hesitation, she pulled it off and let me study it. 💕 So I made the body and sleeves of a #truebiasnikkotop, doubled the collar so it could fold on itself and made a half cape-ish thing to overlay it. Yay! It turned out just as I hoped! It’s like wearing a blanket. Basically I cut a big rectangle, cut out the neck hole, attached it to the collar that was attached to the shirt and then hemmed it all up. I did slope the right shoulder down to mirror the slope of the shirt. I was aiming for some traditional looking khaki trousers, but my fabric choice is too thick and stiff so they don’t drape nicely. I’m in love with my latest finished knitted garment. It got a lot of wear on our recent trip to Brussels and is a fantastic layering piece over my hand-sewn tops. I’m a bit late to the slipover / sweater vest party but I’m definitely a convert now! After a couple of posts about the techniques I’ve used to make this top, here is the result! This is the #vikisews #vikisews_terry #vikisews_терри top, but modified. I’ve written in the previous posts how I’ve used two needles on my vintage Singer. This finish was used to create the hems on the upper and lower bodice and on body hem. The sleeves and neckline were finished with bands. The modifications I made were to use the #truebiasnikkotop neck band and I made the sleeves 3/4 length (mostly because I didn’t quite have enough fabric for full-length sleeves). The cut-off was slightly enlarged, and tightened at the shoulders to create the look I have here. I wore this out for an evening and was slightly worried about the cut-out, but it all stayed in place without any wardrobe malfunction. Although I may just add a couple of stitches to keep it in place at the edges. Also, send greetings to the photo-bombing cat. She’s a new cat on the block and has really taken up residence on my garden bench. The fabric came from #minervacrafts and I only bought 0.8 metres. I’m in a #truebiasnikko batch sewing frenzy, but this fall make it crew neck (I give you my hack instructions two posts ago in a black merino version). Today I’m sharing my entry into the #SewYellowForEndo24 challenge being run by the fabulous Jess @sowhatifisew Endometriosis, a long-term gynaecological condition where tissue similar to the lining of the womb grows in other places, such as the ovaries and fallopian tubes, is such an important topic to raise awareness off. It has been great to see it being talked about more openly by so many Jess has been working so hard to raise awareness and much needed funds to go towards research and raising even more awareness of the condition. My sewing time is very limited at the moment so decided to sew a tried and tested pattern.
