Easter outfit finished 20 mins before my family arrived for lunch! Loved making this matching set. Amazing fabric from The Fabric Store coupled with two tried and tested patterns; Twig and Tale’s Scenic Top paired with True Bias Dani Pants. Minor changes to the top. Cropped the length and tapered the sides slightly. I also took about 1/2” out of the centre front. I hacked the pants pattern to make it a flat front by adding in a small pleat to take out the extra bulk. Next time I will shorted the waistband a bit for and increase the pleat size. I left the back with an elastic waist, but added a couple of darts to take out some of the bulk. I also made them wide leg rather than tapered. I had the Fran Blazer from @bellalovespatterns on my ToSew List for a while, in fact I already cut it out of fantastic Italian herringbone wool just in time to notice… that the summer came. So spontaneously I went through my stash last weekend and cut another Fran Blazer out of heavyweight almond linen that I got from Blackbird Fabrics a year or two ago. It was exactly the kind of oversized summer jacket that I planned to make out of it and I definitely need something like this to wear in the morning or generally speaking in the office. Dear Bella, I know you didn’t recommend making this jacket in linen, but I ignored that line in the instructions and just went for it😅 I haven’t made Bella‘s patterns before and I must say the instructions and the attention to detail are fantastic😻I am definitely waiting for her to release the tweed jacket pattern, I already bought the fabric for it. As for this one: this is size 10 with no modifications and I absolutely love it. Planning to wear it with a pair of light blue jean shorts (still to be made) that are a little longer than these True Bias Dani Shorts, although I like this outfit with the Zoey Tank for going out on a summer evening. #memademay2024 day 17 was fully me-made and very wrinkly since we’re out of town and living from a suitcase. I loved wearing this fit!! Rewearing my #danishorts that I made earlier this month, plus a matching tank that I made to go with it! This is, surprise surprise, another modified #willowtank (my most made pattern of all time). For this one I cropped it and drafted a square neckline, which I bias bound just like the scoop neck. It was really straightforward! I used the selvedge edge as the hem, but now I wish I had cropped the top shorter because I think it would be cuter to wear untucked. I might got back and add a little pintuck near the hem so it sits shorter but I still keep the raw hem detail. The jacket is the #cambriaduster from @fridaypatterncompany in a lush tencel twill with bias bound inside seams that I’m really proud of. I haven’t worn it in years, mainly because the sleeves are wider than I want for a fabric this drapey, it doesn’t really make sense unless they’re rolled up but they don’t stay rolled for very long so I find it annoying to wear. I felt the need for red gingham pants, obviously. Here they are in all their summery, picnic tableclothy glory. Pattern: #truebiasdani by @truebias, size 4 graded to a 6 at hips and below, in @blackbirdfabrics linen Mods: waistband reduced to use 1 1/2” elastic and omit paper bag top, shortened legs by probably 4”, maybe 1/4” width taken out and graded at the sides to make them less barrel-legged, and 1/2” taken out of front crotch curve to reduce FUPA bagging. The Summer of Scrap: making my way through off cuts and pieces left of the mending pile in these sweltering months while we hide inside. #1. I had just enough left of this @merchantandmills Hay Bale Blues left to make something, and I really wanted a button down shirt. To conserve space, I started with the #mmwinnie Pj top which doesn’t have a yoke, and then straightened out the front and added the #helensclosetcameron color and stand and added to the seam allowance for flat felled seams rather than facings. I still had to piece together an arm and the patten matching isn’t perfect, but it’s just what I wanted. #2. I’ve dreamed of a #ddhysope in white linen since I first saw the pattern, but only had small bits of this @merchantandmills cream left. I split the front and back pieces and sewed on separate bottom button plackets and binding with some curtain linen I had hemmed. It’s a floaty dream. This and the shirt both have honey shell buttons from @saltlakesewciety . #3. These #truebiasdani shorts are my favorite since I made them a few years ago. I had fitted the rise way too long tho, and in trying to fix that lost all the width on the thigh. I finally caved and bought just a bit more of this perfect @merchantandmills finnhamn cotton/linen to recut the front and back shorts pieces in a straight size 8. I then reattached everything else from the original shorts. I want to make a whole wardrobe out of this fabric, so still deciding what to do reuse the rest for…

#memademay2025 Dropping a note for MMM because it feels like I just stopped recording! Unfortunately, I wasn’t feeling well in the last week so I was wearing handmade but not recording. I started sewing about five years ago and I found that #memademay was such a good source of connection and also where I could find Indi Patterns. Nowadays, I’m using it as a way to review what I’m making and wearing. I’ve also really enjoyed and been inspired by everyone’s makes! Sewing Notes for my last make in May: • #truebiasdani by @truebias #truebiaspatterns • I’ve made Version B which is has the zip fly front. It’s elasticated 3/4 around which is super comfortable and accommodating. I love the small paperbag effect of the waistband. •I do love high waisted pants! I think it helps to give me a bit more definition around the waist area. I also added the cuffs with this version which I didn’t with my denim version. •Made the size 12 without any modifications (33W:40H) •Went to have a look at my receipt for the fabric which I bought from @spotlight and realised I got the stretch drill which explains why it’s soft and a bit looser than my denim version. #memademay2025 I’ve found this year’s MeMadeMay to be very helpful. I found that even though I am tempted to buy every dress pattern released, I actually reach for pants and shirts. I’ll be travelling soon so I have decided to sew a few Dani Pants because it will be so comfortable to travel in and there are two versions of this pattern. I’ve made a denim version this time. 🌼 Stitchmaiden Daisy Top 🌼 This pattern is tiny but mighty. I was looking for a pattern where I could experiment with decorative features like adding lace or trim or even embroidery and then I came across the Daisy Top. It’s designed to do exactly that. There’s a whole section on adding these decorative details. I’ve used lace here instead of the ruffles but there are so many options to explore. Sewing Notes: • My measurements put me between the size 42 and 44. I made a toile and found that I could make the size 42 as the side seam has a bit more seam allowance so I could start with the 2cm side seam at the bust then grade down to 1cm at the waist. So awesome! • In fact, the whole pattern is adjustment friendly. Not just with the side seam allowance but the way it is constructed as well. If alteration is needed later on, it’s easy to reverse and change it. •Of course, being a Stitchmaiden pattern, there are lots of options. I have made mine with the longer length and with the insert of lace between the middle front and side front bodice. I’m a bit behind on my blog posts but I did make two Daisy Tops so will post it soon. Pattern was kindly gifted for collaboration. Two September makes today, which I’m finally get around to sharing on the grid 🍂 These pictures were taken back in that final little bit of warm weather we had last month. I like how this outfit was nice and cool for the last throes of summer, but still very much autumnal in terms of the colours! I bought this block print back at the Stitch Festival in March and have been waiting for the right project, and I love how it turned out. The ruffle style is very cute, but the darker tones in the block print give it a little bit of edge too 🖤 The Dani trousers/shorts are a new favourite pattern of mine. Funnily enough, now that I’ve made them as trousers I’ve found that I need to make a fitting adjustment where I didn’t in the shorts version. You might be able to see that they are pulling slightly around the front crotch (see the small smile lines) - nothing disastrous, but to improve the fit I have added a little bit more room there for future versions. Swim day with Hubby and the kids in my new #danishorts by @truebias made in some leftover Ankara fabric! After making a toile I decreased the front rise by 1 inch and decreased the elastic in the waist by 4 inches. We had a blast and I'm loving my new shorts! #truebiasdani

This is the new oversized shirt from @thepatternline The design of it is so good. I love the little details that make it stand out. Although it is oversized, there are some elements that help to not make me feel I am drowning in fabric. I especially like the small yoke and the sleeve length. Pattern: #boweryshirt @thepatternline it currently only comes with the Shirting course. Fabric: Cotton Poplin Size: 8 based on my bust measurements. My hip measurements put me into a size 4 according to the size chart. After I made my adjustment (see below) the finished measurement of the hem is in line with a size 4. Adjustments: 1) I moved the position of the buttons a little bit. I wanted to have my 3rd button a bit higher. 2) After I finished the shirt I didn‘t like how much it was flaring out at the hem. So I decided to remove some width. In the end I removed 2cm of width, measured at the hem. I then drew a line from the waist notch towards the new width at the hem. #memademay day 29 and I’m in a newly finished outfit! I really needed new pants, and I liked my @truebias Dani shorts so much that I made the pants view in this pretty berry colored linen from @fabricsstorecom as a sort of wearable muslin before cutting into a fabric I dyed and have been very precious about. I love them! These are a size 26, and I added 1.25” to the rise and to the leg, but I probably didn’t need to add so much to the leg, I removed some length when I hemmed them. I felt the thighs had a bit too much ease after the pockets, so I increased the seam allowance between the pockets and the knees a bit, but would probably grade down to the next size for the next pair. I also lengthened the back patch pockets and widened the inseam pockets so now my phone fully fits in either. The shirt is my first time doing a pattern from @munaandbroad which feels absolutely insane. It’s the #waikerieshirt in a rayon I got at a fabric swap. I made a size G, and added 3” to the length. Honestly would probably add more length if I make one again, this shirt is CROPPED. I made the buttons for both the shirt and the pants again! I was going for a “strawberries and cream” sort of vibe with the shirt buttons (and made them before deciding on this shirt or fabric), but they ended up looking kind of like pokeballs. The Dani in lightweight corduroy.⁠ ⁠ As much as I love the Dani pattern sewn up in light weight linens and crepes during the summer, I equally love it sewn up in a light to medium weight corduroy for the colder months. I made this pair a couple years ago as part of a capsule wardrobe and have enjoyed wearing them paired with Nikko tops and sweaters like the Marlo. Make Nine 2025 I haven’t done a Make Nine over the last three years. It was a nice break to stop putting that pressure on myself. I also sort of missed having the challenge, so I’m bringing it back for 2025. This time I’m focusing on projects that I’ve been thinking about for a while but haven’t gotten around to. 1. Presenting my newest make - it’s yet another pair of @truebias #danishorts ! This is my 4th pair and this slip on elastic-waist pattern with roomy pockets is all I want to wear in the sweltering heat. The fabric is 100% silk, repurposed from a long dress I bought in a vintage clearance bin for $1! This is View C, the only view I have made so far, size 6. I omitted the back pockets and shortened the original hem by about 3”. I then made two ruffle strips that were 2” tall and 1.75x the length of each leg opening and gathered them onto the leg openings, hemming with a tiny rolled hem. The ruffle and its topstitched seam allowance adds a bit of structure that helps each leg opening hold its shape and stops the silk from clinging. I know these aren’t the clearest pictures, but black silk is hard to capture! I can see these being styled lots of different ways, and will definitely be playing dress up soon 🪩 I’m really happy because these fit perfectly into the personal style goal I set out for myself this year: clothes that are practical for everyday (the silk is machine washable) but not boring; feminine but a little weird. #truebiasdani #danishort #danipant #ruffleshorts #silkshorts #handmadewardrobe #millennialsewing #handmadeootd #modernsewing

Presenting my newest and weirdest matching set! I’ve had this @nathalie_lete @conservatorycraft @annamariahorner collab fabric in my stash for years; I was planning for it to be a jacket lining. But recently I was messing with my fabrics, I picked this up and just knew, it was time to use it, and not just as a lining. This is outside fabric, baby! I couldn’t shake the idea of a matching top and shorts set. This is quilting cotton (although, as far as QC goes it’s relatively thin and drapey), so I knew I should keep it simple with the shapes. I absolutely think there’s room for quilting cotton in garment sewing, but picking the right silhouette is key to avoiding the dreaded homemade using quilting cotton look. I feel like I achieved that. The shorts are #danishorts from @truebias; this is becoming a TNT pattern for me at this point. To reduce bulk in this thicker fabric, I did size down one size (from 6 to 4), but cut the elastic for the size 6. This works well for me because I have a low waist to hip ratio (W 30.5, H 34.5); I know that won’t work for everyone so use your own judgement. For the scallop hem, I made it up as I went. I folded my hem up right sides together, measured and carefully drew on my scallop pattern (width of each side/3 for 3 even scallops on each side, 6 per leg). Then I stitched along my line, clipped the curves, finished the raw outer edge, turned + pressed them right side out, and topstitched along the turned out scallop. I’m delighted with them. Like, beside myself. The top, I also made up as I went, but considering where I ended up, I definitely should have just made the @truebias #astertop. I started off with the #grainlinewillow but I modified it so much it’s no longer recognizable. I’m really happy with it though! I do think the straps might be a little short and slightly restrictive, so I might unpick part of my facing and let the straps out by about 1/2”. ✨DANI PANTS ✨ Last one! I’ve made the Version D of the @truebias Dani Pants to add to my travel capsule. I think I would pack these over the green khaki ones because it’s a linen which will be easier to wear where it’s going into summer and humidity is climbing. I might end up packing both. I’m good at over packing! Sewing notes: • I’ve made the size 12 again and shortened the pants by 2 inches. • If you haven’t come across this pattern before, the previous versions I’ve made have a zip fly and is only semi elasticated whereas this one has the elastic waistband without the zip fly. • My measurements are 33W:40 H • Decided to put everything in a blog post! #memademay day 24! I have been SO EXCITED for this outfit you have no idea. @fluidplusdrape always has the coolest fabrics in, and this print was an immediate must have for me. I’ve been trying to build a wardrobe that is better for my current day-to-day, and have felt the need to add more classic button ups to it. This perfectly suits my needs. The #cameronshirt from @helens__closet is a really great pattern for this! Likewise, I needed to add more shorts this year as I was down to just two, one of which is a bold floral, and I didn’t want to wear the same denim pair almost everyday. I took that as an opportunity to finally make the @truebias #truebiasdani in a nice cotton twill. This is one of those patterns that I wanted to make the second it was available and then didn’t, for no reason. I’m so glad to finally have made them though! These were my first zip fly, too, somehow? I’ve done button flys and false flys, but this just feels so nice to have done. I added 1.25” inches to the rise, and to the inseam. The one thing I want to tweak on these is to make the pockets a bit bigger, as they are my phone doesn’t fit great in either the front or back. And!!!! I’ve made my own buttons! I’ve been meaning to do this for actual years, and have had the resin and the mold to do it for a while now. I loved using this fabulous Merchant & Mills cotton-linen to make a trio of shorts! It’s wonderfully lightweight for tropical weather, and has a really soft texture. The handy thing about cotton-linens is that they don’t crease as much as pure linen, but the trade-off is that they can feel stiff and scratchy. This one feels almost pre-washed/distressed, it’s so soft. It’s also yarn-dyed, so the colors are just as intense on the reverse side of the fabric. After making my pair, I found some remnants of giant ric-rac in my stash and decided it would be a great contrast to the strict lines of the plaid on the girls’ shorts. They’re applied in two different ways — instant mini capsule collection. 😂 Now I want a pair of ric-rac-trimmed shorts of my own! 🧵Shorts: Mine is a @truebias Dani short. I arbitrarily removed 2cm from the rise and it worked out. The girls’ are @peonypatterns Lilac. So I guess I waited until the end of summer to sew the perfect summer shorts🤦🏾‍♀️. It’s the Dani shorts by @ truebias using lyocell twill fabric from Joanns. I’ve been wearing it regularly since I finished it a few months ago as it’s still pretty warm here, I even got a compliment yesterday when I wore it to the grocery store👍🏾. This pattern is on my make9 so I’m happy to cross of an item off my list. The fly detail almost did me in mainly because I was not in the head space for it but thankfully the instructions were clear and simple for me to follow so it worked out at the end. I plan to make the other versions soon especially the pants version as the weather is cooling down. I may also go down one size just to see if I prefer that for. I highly recommend this pattern, it’s perfect for beginners and advanced sewists. When the @truebias #danishorts was released, it reminded me of a rtw pair that I wear all the time. Purchased the pattern immediately, cut it out… and finally sewed it up months later 😁. Slow sewing and even slower documenting these past few months, so here’s a double feature! Sized down on this pair to 8, love the tapered view. Well I finally finished my Dani pants! Day 26. Finishing out #memademay2022. Still angry. Still disgusted by our country. Still scared. And yet this is how it goes every time right? We keep going. We send the kids back to school and just hope it doesn’t happen there. I finally get what they mean by “thoughts and prayers”. They’re for the parents sending their kids to school, playing a numbers game that their school won’t be the next target, or the one after. I try to be open and honest with my kids. But I never want to have to talk to Calvin or River about the reality that innocent children are getting shot in schools. I never want them to feel that fear. And yet, I know it’s only a matter of time until we have to have that conversation, and I hate that. 💗 Dani Pant 💗 A great new pattern from @truebias, Dani comes with both short and trouser options. I made the trouser version with the zip fly - my first ever one, so good job the instructions were easy to follow! 😂 I made a size 18 and found they weren't as tapered as I wanted, so I ended up taking in about an inch at the side seams. Day one of #MeMadeMay2024 ! I’m so excited to see everyone’s makes! May typically is the month I am most inspired and motivated to sew because of this challenge. Last month I made these @sewliberated #chanterellepants with some washer linen I got from @freemanscreative when we were in NC over spring break. They’re secret pjs, except maybe not so secret? 🤔 I was recently hired to sub elementary and middle school and figured I better get cracking on pants that aren’t jeans. These were the first make! I’m also wearing an old @jenniferlaurenhandmade #ostaratop in an @artgalleryfabrics jersey. The chanterelles are drafted for 5’5” and I’m 5’8”. I added a 1/2” in length at the hips and 3/4” at the thigh. I didn’t lengthen the pockets. I prewashed the fabric once and I probably should have done that once or twice more, but I’m happy with the fit. I ended up needing to call in the big dog (Jimmy’s mom @odfamily632) who is an incredible seamstress and used to work for Singer. She helped me hem the bottom of the pants and I am so grateful! I swore I’d never work with this fabric again but it does feel pretty incredible against the skin, so I guess we’ll see. Don’t mind the dog butt! I loved using this fabulous Merchant & Mills cotton-linen to make a trio of shorts! It’s wonderfully lightweight for tropical weather, and has a really soft texture. The handy thing about cotton-linens is that they don’t crease as much as pure linen, but the trade-off is that they can feel stiff and scratchy. This one feels almost pre-washed/distressed, it’s so soft. It’s also yarn-dyed, so the colors are just as intense on the reverse side of the fabric. After making my pair, I found some remnants of giant ric-rac in my stash and decided it would be a great contrast to the strict lines of the plaid on the girls’ shorts. They’re applied in two different ways — instant mini capsule collection. 😂 Now I want a pair of ric-rac-trimmed shorts of my own! 🧵Shorts: Mine is a @truebias Dani short. I arbitrarily removed 2cm from the rise and it worked out. The girls’ are @peonypatterns Lilac. I love the #danishort pattern soooo much!!!! This fabric might have been a tiny bit heavy but they still turned out amazing. I just follow the steps and these shorts turn out beautiful every time. When the @truebias #danishorts was released, it reminded me of a rtw pair that I wear all the time. Purchased the pattern immediately, cut it out… and finally sewed it up months later 😁. 💗 Dani Pant 💗 A great new pattern from @truebias, Dani comes with both short and trouser options. I made the trouser version with the zip fly - my first ever one, so good job the instructions were easy to follow! 😂 I made a size 18 and found they weren't as tapered as I wanted, so I ended up taking in about an inch at the side seams. Fabric is a cotton with a little bit of stretch which was a souvenir from our recent trip to Brighton and @dittofabrics. So I guess I waited until the end of summer to sew the perfect summer shorts🤦🏾‍♀️. It’s the Dani shorts by @ truebias using lyocell twill fabric from Joanns. I’ve been wearing it regularly since I finished it a few months ago as it’s still pretty warm here, I even got a compliment yesterday when I wore it to the grocery store👍🏾. This pattern is on my make9 so I’m happy to cross of an item off my list. The fly detail almost did me in mainly because I was not in the head space for it but thankfully the instructions were clear and simple for me to follow so it worked out at the end. I plan to make the other versions soon especially the pants version as the weather is cooling down. I may also go down one size just to see if I prefer that for. I highly recommend this pattern, it’s perfect for beginners and advanced sewists. I don’t wear shorts ever since becoming an adult,ever so long ago. But then the other day I thought, “maybe that’s cause they don’t fit?” So here’s my experiment to see if that’s it! 2 pairs #danishorts. The blue indigo (this fabric is as old as I am, it was my dad’s) was the first—with a flat seat and fully belly adjustment. Turned out I didn’t really need the full belly adjustment on these so the black plaid “wobble check” from #merchantandmills just has the regular front and a flat seat adjustment. I like both but the second definitely hangs better. It’s a great pattern and I think I’ll redo the pockets on my #bobpants pants to be similar.
