Today, I’m wearing my third #PamelasPatterns Favorite Bias Skirt. This one is sewn in Coal Slub Texture Linen Blend from #StyleMakerFabrics. The fabric is cool & beautifully drapey. I used the same color to sew a pair of #ThreadTheory #EastwoodPajama pants for my husband. He wears them a lot in the summer! My top is another #TrueBias #OgdenCami. I used leftover Floral Rayon Challis from another bias skirt. I didn’t have large enough pieces to cut on the fold, so both the front & back have center seams. But I like it just fine & feel good about the sustainability-waste-not-want-not mindset. Pretty chuffed with these linen loungers featuring more of that 🌈 thread. I’ve been wanting to hop on the paper bag waist trend for a while, and I’ve also wanted to dip my toe into pattern drafting. This isn’t a truly self-drafted pattern but it is a mashup of my favorite trousers (#lazotrousers by @threadtheorydesigns ) and the #peppermintspringshorts by @inthefolds for #peppermintmagazine (#freesewingpattern !!!). Since it’s the middle of summer here, this outfit wouldn’t be complete without an #ogdencami by @truebias. Well my last #makenine was a bit of a disaster - I managed 3 out of the total and I’m carrying 2 forward into #makenine2021 but I’ve abandoned the other 4. I guess no ones 2020 worked out according to plan... Still, I like to think I learned a lot in the last 12 months and that this year’s list is more appropriate and thought out! 1. The #maevecardigan by @maddermade this is a carryover but I’ve actually cast on! I’ve almost finished the first sleeve and I intend it to be ready for winter. 2. The #morganjeans by @closetcorepatterns this is my other carryover but I’ve added the notions and tools since last year so the only thing stopping me is my fear. 3. The #palisadepants by @papercutpatterns this was actually the first pattern I made and it was a bit of a disaster. I had no idea how to make modifications to the pattern. I think I can do this now 4. Looking at my make 9 for this year, I realise i’ve only made one from the list so far. And that’s the Pattern Emporium ‘Grab a cuppa cardi.’ I’ve started the patchwork jacket. And got sidetracked by other makes. It’s not that i don’t want to make them. I haven’t gone off the patterns. Far from it. It’s just i’ve found other patterns I’ve wanted to make more for now. This is my make nine 2023. I found this easy, and yet difficult too. I know I want to make a pouf. More bags. Finish my patchwork jacket. I’ve literally only attached a few squares so far. The Lotta dress was leftover from last years make nine. I’d like to make a coat. Probably a long coat. I was going to add a shirt of some kind. Instead I’ve added the Ogden Cami. Totally opposite! I’ve settled for a mix and match of what I fancy making and what I’d like to wear etc. I’m finding I’m loving non clothes making projects too. Is this supposed to be any makes or just clothes? After reading other posts, I agree that it’s more the skills I’m wanting to perfect. Like I’d like to make clothes with zips, button holes. Get the fit right. Make clothes that will suit me. Will still be in my wardrobe for years to come. Tomorrow marks two years since I bought my Janome sewing machine to try and see if I was capable of making clothes. Understanding instructions etc. 2 years later, I’m on my second sewing machine. My Pfaff is so much better and makes sewing a lot more enjoyable. I’ve also invested in an overlocker and a fabric stash that him indoors keeps saying is big enough! No more fabric purchases. So now, I want to build on what’s gone before. wohoo! my first @truebias #ogdencami made out of #riflepapercofabric leftovers from another dress AND my first @patternemporium_kate #sashayshorts - i lengthened the shorts about 10 cm and didnt do a hem 🤫 i used the middle width of the pattern, straight size 14. its a wonderful tencel modal fabric thats flowey AF. i think these would be good for ladies that use bikes! don‘t use the slides though, i burned my bum today while sliding but thats a story for another time. the other slides show the @elbe_textiles #triggshorts i made for flo out of the wonderful @lidanistore cotton (i made emerson crop pants out of this fabric and flo got these from the leftovers). 2,5 m of fabric got us two trousers! wohoo!

Confession: I heart sequins! The problem is, sequins itch. And as it turns out, mermaid sequin kimonos are heavy as heck. 😅. Me-mades for 34+ degrees celsius weather in two parts of Thailand and 10-20 degrees celsius weather in Tokyo...a tricky trip to pack for! 🪡1. My latest make just in time for the trip, #m7789 with a few mods, adding pockets and a slit for easy walking. This fabric was through a white elephant fabric swap and it was perfect for this dress in hot weather, a light almost gauze. 🩱2. These Valentines pajamas were the perfect way to use up my scraps from the dresses I made for my girls. The Ogden cami is simple and oh-so-drapey when cut on the bias. I finished it with bias binding instead of a half-liner, and used my label to help me tell the back from the front. . The Ogden Cami at her bridal best! I loved putting this lingerie set together out of pieces of bridal lace and silk crepe from my stash. The cami is cut on the bias for maximum drape. Happy Sunday shiny happy people! 🌞💖 I am super happy to finally share my new favorite lounge set, inspired yet again by my favorite band of all time, TLC. This is a combination of the True Bias patterns #ogdencami , @mccallpatterncompany #m8056 pants and #v8888 robe made out of this gorgeous Minerva Exclusive Viscose Challis print called „Heron Harmony“. I originally wanted to make the set from a silk satin like the original but I find the quality of these Viscose Challis so close to silk plus they are washable that I think this is a great alternative. As a nice finishing touch I added some piping to the pants and the robe from leftover silk in salmon colorway I had in my stash. The Ogden cami came together like a charm as always, same for the pants which I made fully French seamed to make them more durable. The robe was surprisingly easy to make as well although I tried to partially make better seam finishes by again French seaming everything. This is the perfect set in the Florida heat to chill in the morning and/or the full weekend. It’s such a rainy day outside and while I’m absolutely wearing sweats and a simple tee today, I decided to try styling an outfit using one of the first skirts I ever made. I’ve learned so much since I first made this skirt! The skirt is a Vogue pattern,#v8750, and I really liked the seam lines in the pattern. Not that any of them matched up when I made the skirt so it’s a relief that I made it in black 😂 I don’t wear black typically since I prefer more colors or earth tones, and I don’t wear pencil skirts much (even though I love the shape of them). And it collects so much cat hair! But part of one’s sewing journey is finding out what one enjoys wearing. I made this #makenine2019 at the beginning of the year and have been trying to tick off a few of these boxes over the past few months. I’m finding it really motivating to have clear goals in place (but also feeling distracted by all of the shiny new patterns that keep popping up!). My #makenine2019 is a bit complicated because I’ll be prego the first six months of the year and postpartum for the remaining six, so I planned projects that are forgiving and can work both pre- and post-babe. Here’s my list: 1) My coat! (#b6394) I specifically chose a wrap coat that will accommodate a bump but still be wearable after pregnancy. 2). #ebonytee tunic: the perfect roomy/flowy top that’s both bump and breastfeeding friendly. 3)The @megannielsenpatterns #farrahdress: hoping this will be a good one for spring, bump and all 4) #seamworkpatsy skirt: For the summer, when I’ll need nursing-friendly separates. 5) #stylearc Loren jacket: love this for fall in a fuzzy teddy fabric. 6) #ogdencami (because I’m the only sewist in the world who hasn’t made one yet). 7) The #adrienneblouse, for when I want to look presentable but still be comfy during mat leave. 8) Ditto for the #winslowculottes. 9) #carolynpyjamas, in the vain hope that I may actually sleep after July!

I had to make a pink tweed cape. Like HAD to. It’s been done since November and I still haven’t worn it. And honestly, not sure when/if I will wear it. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Anyway, here it is. Used the leftover fabric from my #s8505 vintage caftan to make the #ogdencami from @truebias. I made a size 12 and added 2 inches to the length of the lining to better fit my bust. Some recent personal sewing projects 🌿 1. New fav black linen pants: #closetcoremitchell @closetcorepatterns 🖤 sooo happy with these, worn with an older make: silk #ogdencami @truebias (lace hack on my blog). 2. The first try on that same pattern in navy Tencel twill (I have to go back and fix the leg width, long story, will write in a blog post). 3. New fav black knit top: #weilandtank @elbe_textiles in a mystery rib knit, worn with an older make: stone washed linen bias skirt, started out as a #clobiasskirt, but I ended up redoing the waistband like on one of the bias skirts I got from Uniqlo (took away the waistband, made the skirt tighter, added simple elastic). 4. Linen #gibbonsslipdress @elbe_textiles cut as a top. I already made one bias cut garment in this pretty lavender linen (a long bias dress), and it was giving major Swedish nurse vibes on me (not sure how to describe that in another way 😂), I blame the color, although it should be "my color". I recut that dress into this top. Let's see if I manage to pair this one with something, but it's kind of turning into a cursed fabric, I think. The pattern is cute, and I have other plans for it, and I'd love to try the dress! 5. Alone time in my happy place 🤍 I'll post all these makes more in detail on the blog/ Threadloop once I have a bit more time and energy. Hopefully, both work and the heatwave will behave at some point 🫠.

New clothes is a tradition for Tet/Lunar New Year! The Year of the Tiger- my son's year. The girls got Ogden camis and E got a couple new neckties. One to match his sisters and one Tiger King-esque. (I'm still trying to decide if it's cool or ridiculous.) The #everydaynecktiemade tween size is getting too short for E, I think he needs a men's length next time I make it. Or maybe one in between. It is still a favorite, fun, quick and easy pattern. This is my first time sewing up an #ogdencami although I have been wanting to for a long time. The size 7 #miniogdencami fit B perfectly and for C I went with a 10 based on her measurements. After these pics I took 4 cm off the strap length and she is currently wearing it at school as a layering piece under a cardigan. 😊 Next time I may want to try a full length lining. This cotton lawn was beautiful to sew, didn't get sucked down into the needleplate like I feared, but it's sheer enough that you can see where the lining ends. They were fairly easy makes, not quite as quick as the ties but not bad. I'm proud that I sewed them very carefully, following all of the instructions about stay-stitching, etc, and pressing in between every step. There will definitely be more of these coming, for them and me. Last pic- the banh chung I made for Tet! Not sewing but they took even longer to make and came out so pretty. Today's sewing room adventures resulted in a "new" summer set! First, I decided to refashion a top (#SoleeTop, shared in stories) I made (with @atelierbrunette rayon) last summer (that I'm pretty sure only got one wear). After removing the elastic and straps, I figured it was about the right proportions for a basic skirt. I created a simple waistband, made to accommodate the 1.5" wide elastic previously in the hem of the top, and gathered the skirt into it. As the length was a tad too long, I added a tuck. Next, I improvised an #OgdenCamiHack, inspired by the #MiniOgdenCami, using a small remnant of this same fabric. The halter ties came from deconstructing the Solee's straps and the back elastic was previously in the Solee as well. whipped this #ogdencamihack up for our vacation this weekend! 🪡 the base pattern is #ogdencami by @truebias and i did the tie strap hack with the elastic waist 🪡 the elastic waist did not work out quiiiiiiiiite the same as the tutorial wanted me to do, so i took it into my own hands and i think it worked out fairly well the tutorial wanted me to cut another good bit off of the bodice for the elastic casing, but idk if it was just written for a different sized torso or what, but cutting any more off would basically just be the croppiest of crop tops on me and i’m not ready for that 😂 so instead of closing the lining and bodice like it wanted me to, i just turned both under and sewed them together at the same length, leaving room for the elastic to go in. i also used thinner elastic, so my casing was thinner as well. the only place i don’t really like the fit of is how it kinda bunches on my chest, but that may be just the way i was standing. i love the tie straps, but i should have thought of how i personally would want them to tie in the back, making the strings uneven as they dangle… but oh well! overall, i’m very pleased! it was a super quick sew and i will definitely be doing some more of the ogden hacks featured on the #truebias blog soon! #truebiaspatterns #truebiasogdencami

I'm actually wearing a different #memade outfit right now, but Seattle weather isn't cooperating, so you get this number instead. I made it last spring for my brother's wedding rehearsal dinner, and love it so! ✨Hacked #OgdenCami by @truebias, lengthened and with an added gathered tier, in a rayon blend from @seattlerecreative. I sketched out the design of a reversible tank dress with tie straps, was prepared to draft it from scratch, and realized using an existing pattern would be tons easier. I extended the Ogden hem down to my fingertips, eyeballed the length and doubled the width for the gathered panel. DAY THIRTEEN: This #ogdencami designed by @truebias will forever hold a special place in my heart. I had really just started building my wardrobe in 2023, getting deep into garment sewing when I had what I refer to as The Year of Dying. I spent around 18 mo deathly ill, in and out of the hospital and bedbound. The absolutely amazing @mollymollyfabric sent me this fabric as a get well and get back to sewing and while it was almost a year before I was able to, it was the FIRST THING I sewed when I was able to. I now do the majority of my sewing from my electric wheelchair and it gives me the freedom to be able to do something for more than 15 min at a time. It's a great freedom to be able to be back to building my wardrobe. The Wooster jacket worn, although it's still too hot to wear it out at the moment. It's a lovely little jacket pattern, unlined, but it would be easy to make a lining. . . Sewing details: * I made a size S, and shortened the bodice 6cm. On the front pieces, I divided this between the upper and lower fronts. * As the fabric suggestions were for a heavier weight than my viscose, I underlined each piece with linen, which gives a bit of structure. * red linen used for neckband and yoke to break up large scale pattern. *I faced the yoke with red crepe, satin side out to make the jacket easier to slip on and off. * bias trim sewn to the lower front by pocket. * appliqué flowers and leaves salvaged from scraps sewn on to yoke. . . I made up another of my 3 pieces of fabric for my three month challenge! I thought I would get tons of sewing done over the summer, but the days seem to be running away with me. This is the #eviebiasskirt by @tessutifabrics I made the elasticated version and it was a super quick sew. I had enough scraps to make an #ogdencami too. Unfortunately I couldn’t find my original cut pattern and had to print it again. I suffered a massive case of body dysmorphia and ended up having to chop tons off the side seams, which has distorted it slightly. I saw a three piece set on a horrible probably-uses-sweatshops website, but I thought it was cute.. so I plotted. @rainbowfabrickilburn to the rescue. Oh my darlin Clementine… Here’s a day in the life of my new matching set! I dug into this fabric in a hurry on Thursday before we left for our weekend away on Friday and am so glad I just went for it! This glorious fabric is designed and custom printed by @fluidplusdrape and I absolutely loved working with it and wearing it. It’s a linen cotton blend and barely wrinkles (total wizardry). And last I looked she still has some left! Patterns are both first time makes for me and both worked out really well- the tank is the Ogden Cami by @truebias and the shorts are the Tulum Pants and Shorts by @stylapatterns . I don’t post a lot of sewing on my feed because it’s not really related to my business, but once in a while I like to document something here because it’s still creative and fun to look back at! My sewing space always has several projects on the go, and often it’s a lot of mending or altering of existing items. Last weekend, I really felt like making something from scratch, so I looked at my fabric stash and this super fun fish print got me excited! It’s a block-printed lightweight cotton fabric from India and I LOVE it, so I made it into a dress :) I used the #ogdencami pattern for the top, and added a button placket and gathered skirt to create the dress. I gave the back an elastic waistband so I could get it over my shoulders without needing a side or back zipper :) I’m really happy with it! Aren’t the fish so much fun?!

Haven't posted for a while but I've finally finished my shorts. It took a while because I spent ages to try and find matching buttons. my entry for the category K.I.S.S in the #patternhackathon2025 Kris @unsewcial and @26bydayana I used the #ogdencami from @truebias and made a swishy sundress. It’s one of my favourite patterns to hack and only 5 pieces. I lengthened the main bodice took it in a bit at the sides and added a frill for swishiness. the straps I made wider as I wanted to use the lovely blue and white cross parts of the fabric. I thought it made it look more professional using a feature of the design. The fabric is gorgeous both the pattern and the feel it’s very fine cotton but feels like silk from @ladymcelroyfabrics it has a gold lurex dash running all the way through which really shimmers in the sun. A summer dress sewn from film industry leftover fabric scrap rectangles that have sat in my stash for years until I cut this out last year and found it again as a thing to do with my hands while my brain processes devastating images of war crimes, weather events, gen0cide, sex traffickers but also bumblebees and flowers and communities rallying in support and frozen blueberries and new babies and and and I know if we have the capacity to be creative we owe it to the world right now, however we can. This is a hack of the @truebias #ogdencami pattern, mostly made following the “Ogden empire waist maxi hack” tutorial on their blog, with a few changes (namely a second gathered tier), based on the size of scraps I had to work with. I turned the straps into ties, and yes, it has pockets too. The fabric is maybe a tencel? It’s swooshy and flowy and I love it. 10/10 will make this hack again. This is a size 8, true to size for my B measurement of 36, which is the only measurement that matters for all these gathers. It’s my (late) Mom’s bday so I wanted to walk among the flowers today especially 💞 She loved her fleurs! This is my first entry for #refebulous2025 hosted by @madebyliesl I’m not quite following the rules, as this week is about posting plans, but I’m more of a plan and complete in one post sort of person. This refebulous project didn’t end the way it started. I salvaged the dress in the first photo from my daughters discard pile a few years ago. She made the dress, and I knew there were scraps I could add to this gorgeous linen. I was planning an #ogdencami #truebiasogden Fast forward a few years…I was about to start cutting, but thought I would check my daughter didn’t want it back, as she has lost weight and might fit into it again. Turns out she did want it back. I repaired some holes and resewed some of the binding, and it is back in service as the original garment. That left me with not enough fabric for my cami. I am a hoarder of scraps, and a bit of a search uncovered some satin scraps in a good colour match. In the photos you can see I cut the body of the cami on the cross grain. I cut the facings from the satin (I did iron the satin after this photo and before cutting). The back facing needed to be cut on the bias and pieced with a centre seam, but I don’t think that is a problem. Ending with a bathroom selfie. When I first made this pattern, several years ago, I went to the trouble of making a toile. I remember there was a broad back adjustment. The final garment is perfectly comfortable so I’m really glad that past me went to that effort 😆.

I’m not a regular mom, I’m an impractical footwear mom. This was actually weeks ago, as we’ve now reached permanent face melting temps here, but definitely also wore wooden platforms to go to the vet, three groceries, and the butcher this morning. These shorts are several years old, made from the bottom portion of a late 1930s (maybe 1940) Advance playsuit pattern. The waist is snug, but not suffocatingly tight like my only other remotely fitting pair of shorts. I need to measure to see how much I graded them up from the pattern because I’ve got some seersucker to make the whole playsuit again. I made it in a green/blue seersucker like 13 or 14 years ago and absolutely loved it but it didn’t make it through the numerous closet purges over the last decade. This pair is a lightweight cotton twill that holds the pleats nicely, but they do get kind of wrinkly after sitting very long, which honestly is to be expected. The cherry print rayon #OgdenCami from spring break also makes an appearance. Having finished the #closetcorepietra shorts I decided to make the tapered trousers. I loved working so much with the Tencel from @croftmillfabric so much that I bought some more to make the trousers. I am equally happy with these as the shorts. Not wanting to waste any of the fabric I decided to make the #truebiasogden cami and to really make the most of the scraps I self drafted a ruffle around the neckline to go with it. I am so happy how this has turned out. I bought this raspberry linen at a little bitty Hancock Fabrics in Napa, CA in 2005. It was a remnant with some minor sun bleaching, so it was super cheap, and at the time I made an empire waist, jumper style mini dress that I’d based off a pink gingham knit mini dress that I got at a thrift store. Both were really cute. Anyway, I still had plenty left to make something else, and I’ve been hanging onto this fabric for 19 years trying to decide what I wanted to make with the rest. This was a test run of the skirt block I drafted, and while I do need to extend the back darts 1/2” - which I’ve since done on the paper pattern - overall it came out pretty well. I probably could have taken a hair out of the center back for this linen, since one side seam pulls around just a hair past where it should, but it’s not bad, and it’s a wrap, so I can sort of fudge the fit easily. I still had just barely enough to cut an Ogen Cami as well. The #ogdencami is the pattern that I’ve made the most. I think I’m close to ten now. 😆 It’s such a pleasure to sew and I love how it looks (and how little fabric is needed). This one is extra special because is made with the old shirts of my dad that passed away about a year ago. The cotton is of great quality but mostly it has an sentimental significance. I opted for a cropped length and didn’t do the hem to make it more casual looking. We are having a September heatwave here in the UK, which means the summer pyjamas can stay out a little longer, and breakfasting out on the patio in them can continue a little longer too! I made this summery pyjama set quite early on in my sewing journey. The pyjama bottoms are a @tillybuttons make from the book "Love at First Stitch", and the cami is the @truebias Ogden cami, which works so perfectly as a pyjama top. I love this set, and live in it during the summer months, though my husband pointed out that I have cut the fabric upside down so the flowers are the wrong way up. This is my fourth #odgencamihack and it might be my favorite. //Pattern: #truebiasogden hack by @truebias, size 6. //Mods: Lengthened the bodice to a *certain* amount. Somewhere in the realm of 45ish”. There’s a slit about 10” from the bottom on either side seam. I also topstitched the neckline and around the arms because understitching just wasn’t cutting it. //Fabric: Cupro twill from @madewithharmony. It was in the remnant basket and I immediately knew it would be the perfect slip dress for all seasons. I love how it floats over my body without being boxy. Normally I’d want a waist tie with this silhouette, but this doesn’t need it. This is a slippery fabric that I honestly just didn’t stress about getting it perfect because I would lose my mind if I did stress about it. Here's my attempt at some up-cycling.... This is my latest Ogden cami by @truebias This garment started life as a ready-to-wear shift dress from H&M (second image), which I have had for many years, and used to wear for work. It was very short, so I had to always wear it with tights when I was in the office, but because it is polyester, it would stick to my tights and I was forever tugging at it uncomfortably. In the end I just stopped wearing it, and it has sat for years in my wardrobe, unloved. I was going to send it off to the charity shop, but I love the William Morris print, so have up-cycled it instead, giving it a new life. I am already reaching for it lots, so it was clearly a project worth doing! There were hardy any scraps left (last image), and what scraps I do have I plan to use to stuff the Closet Core pouf I have planned to make for my husband's home office. Seeing as it is the last day of #memademay2023, I figured I might as well share at least once: this dress I made for my birthday last week. Making a dress for my birthday has become a fun tradition. This was more of a spur-of-the-moment idea and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. I used the bodice of the #truebiasogden cami and the bottom of the #tammyhandmaderhea with six inches added to the long tier. The top of the Rhea dress is very similar to the Ogden but I still haven’t found the perfect tweak so I just decided to go with the Ogden. I added bust darts which made it pretty big in the chest so I’ll have to go back to the drawing board on that one, too. Alas. Here's my entry in @sewing_in_spain and @jenleggsews summer challenge, #st4s25 . The challenge was to sew a co ord, so here's mine. It's actually 4 outfits, 8 if you add a wide belt to turn the co-ords into faux dresses and jumpsuits, but the chances of me getting pictures of that were less than nil. So here we are. Two tops, a skirt, and a pair of trousers - all made from one King Sized IKEA duvet cover. I spent ages cutting these out to make sure the stripes were straight and that they met in lovely neat little arrows then took pictures of it looking like a bag of totties. Pinky promise that when worn on someone who knows how to pose they look normal. Skirt - @neighborhoodpatterns #plainjaneskirt I love this pattern. The hem facing is lovely to sew and the instructions to sew the French seams and pockets are especially easy for a person with absolutely no spatial awareness to follow Top - @merchantandmills T shirt for woven fabrics, bought when I was home from @bawntextiles . I cropped it, sewed a deep hem, and added turn ups to the sleeves. Trousers - of course, the #bobpants from @stylearc. I love them, though I'm not 100% sure of them in this fabric. Definitely more suited to a holiday trouser rather than the mean streets of Wokingham. Vest - the @truebias #ogdencami. I made the wrong size and it's too big, so I am going to alter it. That's why I have my Ilford Jacket on, the size issues are obvious without it. Thanks to Suzy and Jen for a fun challenge. I really enjoyed the planning and sewing. Usual OMG why can I not take a picture stress, which is why I've put all the co-ords on one post and haven't taken a picture in all the combinations. I cannot believe July has been and gone. Another total me made look 🥰 I made these @kianabonollo wide leg shorts actually last year! 😅 But it was towards the end of the summer so I didn’t manage to wear them until now. Does this ever happen to you? 🙈 I wanted a wide leg shorts and these didn’t disappoint! They are so easy to fit, the instructions are great, both pictures and video, and I could make these as a beginner. The only downside I found on wearing them (which you would never know until a proper “test drive” 😂) is that the inside leg rides up as I walk - maybe I need to make them a tad shorter next time? My first time making these type of zip/button fastening with the waist end covering the hook and eye! 🥇 The top is @truebias Ogden Cami - I posted about this a while back with details but this is a size bigger than the original I did because it was tight on my chest. One of my intentions this year was to use the beautiful fabrics that have been kept in my stash for ‘something special’. The trouble is I just kept collecting fabrics and being too afraid to use them. So I decided to start making things that are wearable and slot into my wardrobe so I can feel special everyday. This fabric is from @selvedgeandbolts and is a deadstock @mulberryengland silk. It’s light and beautiful and behaved itself when I sewed it. I made a coord because it gives me options to wear together or as separates. I have a black set in cupro tencel that I can mix and match with. Obviously I made my favourite @fridaypatterncompany #saguarotrousers (I promise I’ll start making other trousers soon) and the @truebias #ogdencami. This time for the cami I raised the armholes and shortened the straps. A more difficult post. I stumbled upon this old song from another person’s stories and had a ponder on the lyrics. I know it’s about a romantic relationship on Lana’s part, in context, but the words resonated with me in a different way. Living with health issues for a little while, the lyrics she sings reminds me of whether I’d love & appreciate my God given body when it fails to do what I want it to do, with all the aches and pains? And throughout time. So although you see a beautiful new two piece outfit I sewed up, what it doesn’t show is months of rest and work behind the scenes to sew again. And questioning whether I would even sew again, if I’d give it up for a while and how I’d feel if I had to give it up forever. If you also suffer with health issues, especially if it stops you from doing what you want to, my heart goes out to you 💕 Oh the hills and valleys of life. I've got a bit of a backlog of makes to show you but I'll start with this one. This is a hack of the Ogden cami by @truebias I bought this tiny remnant (0.88cm) of lovely rust coloured double gauze from @sewcialising in York and went about seeing what I could get out of such a tiny piece of fabric. The Ogden cami is always good for this. I used the peplum/rouleau hack that is on the True Bias website but substituted ties for buttons. I used the strap pattern for the ties and they turned out the correct size. Although I used the smaller size range for my top, I borrowed the straps from the larger size range (for the actual straps this time, not the ties) as they're a bit wider and offer a tiny bit more coverage. If you swipe you can see my (hand drawn) magic mock-up that I did on @stash_hub . The first one is what I was aiming for, the second drawing is what I ended up with! I honestly don’t know how many times I’ve made a dress hack of the Ogden cami, but I know that more are in my future. It’s a versatile pattern because you can make it as long or as short as you like. It is very easy to just throw an Ogden dress on and get on with life. I wear my Ogden cami dresses often. When I saw this fabric from Rifle Paper Co earlier in the spring, I knew I had to make it into a dress. It’s a lightweight rayon fabric. It’s pretty breathable. It does wrinkle but not as much as some rayons. It’s just a reliable fabric. I usually make my Ogden dresses with tiered skirts, but this one I just did as one straight piece. It’s simpler that way, and it lets the print be the focus of the dress. And I love this print. Roses and raspberries…so fun. (Yes, it has pockets. Of course it does.) I’m already scheming some fun occasions to to wear this dress again soon. I love it. I'm actually wearing a different #memade outfit right now, but Seattle weather isn't cooperating, so you get this number instead. I made it last spring for my brother's wedding rehearsal dinner, and love it so! ✨Hacked #OgdenCami by @truebias, lengthened and with an added gathered tier, in a rayon blend from @seattlerecreative. I sketched out the design of a reversible tank dress with tie straps, was prepared to draft it from scratch, and realized using an existing pattern would be tons easier. I extended the Ogden hem down to my fingertips, eyeballed the length and doubled the width for the gathered panel. I don’t think I’ll ever stop sewing #truebiasogdencami . The cami is perfectly suited to my preference. I always end up buying cami tops, might as well sew my own! I also appreciate that it is so versatile. There are so many possibilities with just this one pattern. One simple hack is to transform it into a straightforward A-line dress. DAY THIRTEEN: This #ogdencami designed by @truebias will forever hold a special place in my heart. I had really just started building my wardrobe in 2023, getting deep into garment sewing when I had what I refer to as The Year of Dying. I spent around 18 mo deathly ill, in and out of the hospital and bedbound. The absolutely amazing @mollymollyfabric sent me this fabric as a get well and get back to sewing and while it was almost a year before I was able to, it was the FIRST THING I sewed when I was able to. I now do the majority of my sewing from my electric wheelchair and it gives me the freedom to be able to do something for more than 15 min at a time. It's a great freedom to be able to be back to building my wardrobe. Today’s Me Made May transformation is a dress. This was originally made 10 years ago and again the original pattern and fabric source are long forgotten. For this one I took the top of the True Bias Ogden cami which by lucky coincidence was pretty much identical to the width of the dress. The Ogden cami is another of my tried and tested patterns and one I wear a lot in the summer, but I’ve never made it into a dress before. I cut the dress to the Ogden cami pattern and used a piece of cotton poplin for the facing. The original belt was super long so I sacrificed some of the length to create the two straps. Having finished the #closetcorepietra shorts I decided to make the tapered trousers. I loved working so much with the Tencel from @croftmillfabric so much that I bought some more to make the trousers. I am equally happy with these as the shorts. We are having a September heatwave here in the UK, which means the summer pyjamas can stay out a little longer, and breakfasting out on the patio in them can continue a little longer too! I made this summery pyjama set quite early on in my sewing journey. This is my fourth #odgencamihack and it might be my favorite. //Pattern: #truebiasogden hack by @truebias, size 6. //Mods: Lengthened the bodice to a *certain* amount. Somewhere in the realm of 45ish”. There’s a slit about 10” from the bottom on either side seam. I also topstitched the neckline and around the arms because understitching just wasn’t cutting it. //Fabric: Cupro twill from @madewithharmony. It was in the remnant basket and I immediately knew it would be the perfect slip dress for all seasons. I love how it floats over my body without being boxy. Normally I’d want a waist tie with this silhouette, but this doesn’t need it. This is a slippery fabric that I honestly just didn’t stress about getting it perfect because I would lose my mind if I did stress about it. Here's my attempt at some up-cycling.... This is my latest Ogden cami by @truebias This garment started life as a ready-to-wear shift dress from H&M (second image), which I have had for many years, and used to wear for work. It was very short, so I had to always wear it with tights when I was in the office, but because it is polyester, it would stick to my tights and I was forever tugging at it uncomfortably. In the end I just stopped wearing it, and it has sat for years in my wardrobe, unloved. I was going to send it off to the charity shop, but I love the William Morris print, so have up-cycled it instead, giving it a new life. I am already reaching for it lots, so it was clearly a project worth doing! There were hardy any scraps left (last image), and what scraps I do have I plan to use to stuff the Closet Core pouf I have planned to make for my husband's home office. Sometime in the last year, I decided I wanted to make a handmade wardrobe. I've been sewing all my life, but never very seriously. I am like my dad in always wanting to make something, do something with my hands. When he passed away last year, sewing became my mechanism for reaching back and connecting with him. I have learned so many new skills. I sew almost every day, even if it's for 10 or 15 minutes. I love the feeling of finishing something and wearing it. I'm finding that it's more thrilling to wear things after the second or third or fourth wash, when I can really appreciate my new skills. whipped this #ogdencamihack up for our vacation this weekend! 🪡 the base pattern is #ogdencami by @truebias and i did the tie strap hack with the elastic waist 🪡 the elastic waist did not work out quiiiiiiiiite the same as the tutorial wanted me to do, so i took it into my own hands and i think it worked out fairly well the tutorial wanted me to cut another good bit off of the bodice for the elastic casing, but idk if it was just written for a different sized torso or what, but cutting any more off would basically just be the croppiest of crop tops on me and i’m not ready for that 😂 so instead of closing the lining and bodice like it wanted me to, i just turned both under and sewed them together at the same length, leaving room for the elastic to go in. i also used thinner elastic, so my casing was thinner as well. the only place i don’t really like the fit of is how it kinda bunches on my chest, but that may be just the way i was standing. i love the tie straps, but i should have thought of how i personally would want them to tie in the back, making the strings uneven as they dangle… but oh well! overall, i’m very pleased! it was a super quick sew and i will definitely be doing some more of the ogden hacks featured on the #truebias blog soon! #truebiaspatterns #truebiasogdencami

✨ Made with love… and a few last-minute pivots ✨ We’ve just returned from the most amazing family holiday in Porto 🇵🇹 and I had to share one of my favourite makes from the trip. Before we left, I wanted to sew something that would feel really special — a real showstopper for a photoshoot I booked with the brilliant Davi - @fotografoemportugal__ He made us all feel so relaxed — especially the kids — and captured such gorgeous moments. I can’t wait to share more of the photos soon (we got a mix of me, Robert and I, and the boys too!). Originally, I had planned to wear the True Bias Shelby Dress, but as I got closer to finishing it, it didn't feel right for me. With time running out (and patience wearing thin 😅), I pivoted and went for something I knew I loved after ordering more fabric — the True Bias Ogden Cami and the Sienna Skirt by Galia Couture. Sewn in this beautiful mosaic viscose from @lamazifabrics, the fabric was light, breathable and perfect for the 30+ degree heat. The colours felt so "me" and I’m so glad I went with this co-ord set in the end 💙 📍These shots were taken at the stunning Igreja Capela Das Almas. Me Made May - day 14 Big joyous holiday trousers and a top I haven't worn for years, all because MMM made me think differently and wear something slightly out of my ordinary zone. Thinking about these lovely lemony tiley trews yesterday made me want to wear them today, and then that lead to remembering I didn't have a lot that went with them. There are lots of colours in the trouser print, but I would naturally pick out the blue. But, something in me prodded me towards the red and this old Ogden cami, which I would not have picked because it has a print of its own, even if it's a tiny one. I don't really so print clashing, so this feels a bit brave. Also I get scared of wearing red in general, because it feels like wearing a big beacon that says LOOOK AT MEEEEEEE. But - again - I really like how they work together! And it made me think I should cut up an old unworn voue dress to make another Ogden. So it's all been terribly productive. This is my first entry for #refebulous2025 hosted by @madebyliesl I’m not quite following the rules, as this week is about posting plans, but I’m more of a plan and complete in one post sort of person. This refebulous project didn’t end the way it started. I salvaged the dress in the first photo from my daughters discard pile a few years ago. She made the dress, and I knew there were scraps I could add to this gorgeous linen. I was planning an #ogdencami #truebiasogden Fast forward a few years…I was about to start cutting, but thought I would check my daughter didn’t want it back, as she has lost weight and might fit into it again. Turns out she did want it back. I repaired some holes and resewed some of the binding, and it is back in service as the original garment. That left me with not enough fabric for my cami. I am a hoarder of scraps, and a bit of a search uncovered some satin scraps in a good colour match. In the photos you can see I cut the body of the cami on the cross grain. I cut the facings from the satin (I did iron the satin after this photo and before cutting). The back facing needed to be cut on the bias and pieced with a centre seam, but I don’t think that is a problem. Ending with a bathroom selfie. When I first made this pattern, several years ago, I went to the trouble of making a toile. I remember there was a broad back adjustment. The final garment is perfectly comfortable so I’m really glad that past me went to that effort 😆.

A few years back, I bought a black rayon dress from Old Navy. It’s a cute dress, and I mostly loved wearing it. But it doesn’t have pockets, and I don’t entirely love the armcye. So I decided to make an even better black rayon dress. It would fit my arms comfortably, it would have pockets, and it would work well with any pair of earrings and any headband. So I made an Ogden cami dress hack. There are pockets, an elasticized waist, a swingy skirt, and a fun ruffle at the bottom. It’s pretty much amazing. I might live in it. I’m not a regular mom, I’m an impractical footwear mom. This was actually weeks ago, as we’ve now reached permanent face melting temps here, but definitely also wore wooden platforms to go to the vet, three groceries, and the butcher this morning. These shorts are several years old, made from the bottom portion of a late 1930s (maybe 1940) Advance playsuit pattern. The waist is snug, but not suffocatingly tight like my only other remotely fitting pair of shorts. I need to measure to see how much I graded them up from the pattern because I’ve got some seersucker to make the whole playsuit again. I made it in a green/blue seersucker like 13 or 14 years ago and absolutely loved it but it didn’t make it through the numerous closet purges over the last decade. This pair is a lightweight cotton twill that holds the pleats nicely, but they do get kind of wrinkly after sitting very long, which honestly is to be expected. The cherry print rayon #OgdenCami from spring break also makes an appearance. Today is mostly given over to chores in the house & garden wearing an old RTW maxi. As such, my #memade du jour will be tonight’s PAJAMAS! Yay. Tonight I’ll be wearing a True Bias Ogden cami sewn in a natural-colored midweight linen blend jersey from @stylemakerfabrics. I just checked and they still have this fabric in 12 colors. So very tempting. The PJ bottoms are a hack of the Brindille & Twig free adult leggings (pattern SS03). I widened each leg a few inches and added elastic to the waistband. I sewed these in a natural-plum painterly wildflowers digital print linen jersey also from #stylemakerfabrics. Having finished the #closetcorepietra shorts I decided to make the tapered trousers. I loved working so much with the Tencel from @croftmillfabric so much that I bought some more to make the trousers. I am equally happy with these as the shorts. Not wanting to waste any of the fabric I decided to make the #truebiasogden cami and to really make the most of the scraps I self drafted a ruffle around the neckline to go with it. I am so happy how this has turned out. I bought this raspberry linen at a little bitty Hancock Fabrics in Napa, CA in 2005. It was a remnant with some minor sun bleaching, so it was super cheap, and at the time I made an empire waist, jumper style mini dress that I’d based off a pink gingham knit mini dress that I got at a thrift store. Both were really cute. Anyway, I still had plenty left to make something else, and I’ve been hanging onto this fabric for 19 years trying to decide what I wanted to make with the rest. This was a test run of the skirt block I drafted, and while I do need to extend the back darts 1/2” - which I’ve since done on the paper pattern - overall it came out pretty well. I probably could have taken a hair out of the center back for this linen, since one side seam pulls around just a hair past where it should, but it’s not bad, and it’s a wrap, so I can sort of fudge the fit easily. I still had just barely enough to cut an Ogen Cami as well. The #ogdencami is the pattern that I’ve made the most. I think I’m close to ten now. 😆 It’s such a pleasure to sew and I love how it looks (and how little fabric is needed). This one is extra special because is made with the old shirts of my dad that passed away about a year ago. The cotton is of great quality but mostly it has an sentimental significance. I opted for a cropped length and didn’t do the hem to make it more casual looking. My two favourite colours of the moment - cobalt and orchid. My Christmas present to myself was Nerida Hansen fabric. The gorgeous pod print is a linen viscose and the millennial summer print (worn by a Gen Xer) is a cotton voile. Both fabrics were purchased from Miss Maude. I wanted some plain items to showcase these beautiful prints so I chose some wide leg Opal pants from Megan Nielsen and my new go to cap sleeve top pattern from treasurie patterns. I also managed to squeeze out an Ogden Cami from True Bias, which I altered slightly by taking a sliver off the centre each piece to make it less low cut and gaping. The orchid and white gingham is from Spotlight. All these patterns would make great beginner patterns. We are having a September heatwave here in the UK, which means the summer pyjamas can stay out a little longer, and breakfasting out on the patio in them can continue a little longer too! I made this summery pyjama set quite early on in my sewing journey. The pyjama bottoms are a @tillybuttons make from the book "Love at First Stitch", and the cami is the @truebias Ogden cami, which works so perfectly as a pyjama top. I love this set, and live in it during the summer months, though my husband pointed out that I have cut the fabric upside down so the flowers are the wrong way up. This is my fourth #odgencamihack and it might be my favorite. //Pattern: #truebiasogden hack by @truebias, size 6. //Mods: Lengthened the bodice to a *certain* amount. Somewhere in the realm of 45ish”. There’s a slit about 10” from the bottom on either side seam. I also topstitched the neckline and around the arms because understitching just wasn’t cutting it. //Fabric: Cupro twill from @madewithharmony. It was in the remnant basket and I immediately knew it would be the perfect slip dress for all seasons. I love how it floats over my body without being boxy. Normally I’d want a waist tie with this silhouette, but this doesn’t need it. This is a slippery fabric that I honestly just didn’t stress about getting it perfect because I would lose my mind if I did stress about it. A year in the making: my cami collection. Pattern is the @truebias The fabrics are all from the stash The golden one was made as a wearable toile last summer. It got a surprising amount of wear and it was such a great use a scrap I’ve had in my closet for a good 5 years. Eventually I got around to making more. The lucky fabrics were a precious scrap of SYAS viscose A refashion of a failed Jill dress A narrow scrap I got from someone like 10 years ago Satin leftover from a wedding guest dress I sized down from my wearable toile While all were made in lightweight fabrics, it was interesting to see how the drape of fabric each fabric affected the fit. I do think I got the strap placement a bit off on one of them because it keeps sliding of my shoulders. Despite them not being perfect they are already getting worn regularly. This project reinforced the idea that i am much more comfortable in woven rather than knit clothing. Here's my attempt at some up-cycling.... This is my latest Ogden cami by @truebias This garment started life as a ready-to-wear shift dress from H&M (second image), which I have had for many years, and used to wear for work. It was very short, so I had to always wear it with tights when I was in the office, but because it is polyester, it would stick to my tights and I was forever tugging at it uncomfortably. In the end I just stopped wearing it, and it has sat for years in my wardrobe, unloved. I was going to send it off to the charity shop, but I love the William Morris print, so have up-cycled it instead, giving it a new life. I am already reaching for it lots, so it was clearly a project worth doing! There were hardy any scraps left (last image), and what scraps I do have I plan to use to stuff the Closet Core pouf I have planned to make for my husband's home office. Seeing as it is the last day of #memademay2023, I figured I might as well share at least once: this dress I made for my birthday last week. Making a dress for my birthday has become a fun tradition. This was more of a spur-of-the-moment idea and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. I used the bodice of the #truebiasogden cami and the bottom of the #tammyhandmaderhea with six inches added to the long tier. The top of the Rhea dress is very similar to the Ogden but I still haven’t found the perfect tweak so I just decided to go with the Ogden. I added bust darts which made it pretty big in the chest so I’ll have to go back to the drawing board on that one, too. Alas. ✨[AD] True Bias Blair Skirt✨ A while back, I was part of the testing team for the Blair Skirt. I really love the look of a skirt that is fitted over the waist and hips which then goes straight down to the hem. It was released for their autumn collection, but I think it looks great all year round. As part of a paid collaboration for Instagram, I was asked if I could make another version of the True Bias Blair Skirt. I’ve been wearing my tester version on many occasions but I used a gorgeously patterned fabric so I decided to make a neutral version this time. I’ve used a beige denim and added all the optional extras of the Blair Skirt. The skirt comes in three lengths and I can’t look past a Midi Version. I’ve used nine buttons down the front button placket and two buttons for the pockets. There are also button loops and even an included pattern for a matching belt. Unfortunately, my buckle that I’ve ordered from Amazon hasn’t arrived but I’ll be keen to try sewing the belt when it arrives. I’m looking forward to wearing this all year round! It was wonderful to sew this pattern again. I love how sewing allows us to customise the details. A pretty little @truebias Ogden Cami. Obviously it’s too cold to wear this on it’s own at the moment but I like the way it peeks out at the bottom of my cardi. This fabric was a 70-something cm remnant from John Lewis. I bought it last year while on a training course away from home and not enjoying myself. I took myself off to look at fabric to cheer myself up! And now this can cheer me up every time I wear it! Like my previous Ogden cami, I have added bust darts to fix the gaping under the arms. I’m not sure if this is because I’ve chosen the wrong size, or I’m an odd shape.
