I love seeing end of year and wrap up posts, so here is mine for 2023! I don't make as many items as some folks I follow, but I do find great joy in the things I do make. Here are my highlights for my sewing year, likely in chronological order. Part 1: Garments 1. Easy Fit Yoga Pants by @jsterndesigns . I made these at the SewExpo this year, my first time going! 2. Paola Workwear Jacket by the @fabricsstorecom for Andrew. I used flannel scraps for this wearable muslin. At the time, I had a difficult time with the collar and I haven't gone back to make this again. 3. Adrienne Blouse by @fridaypatterncompany . This was a wearable toile and I love it! I've only made one more, but I have lots planned. 4. Matching set with the Luna Tank by @helens__closet and Easy Fit Yoga Pants by @jsterndesigns . 5. Nolan pants by @seamwork . I made a zipper fly! Tragically, the pants are two sizes too big and I need to re-home them. 6. Jesse tee by @truebias . I like this shirt a lot, even though it's a tad too short. I'd love to make more with a couple adjustments. 7. Puff pants by @georgeandgingerpatternco . These are a wearable toile and for next versions need order of construction adjustments. 8-9. Finlayson Sweater by @threadtheorydesigns for Andrew. This is the second Finlayson I've made Andrew and I always have plans for so many more. I keep reflecting on 2023 as a way to gain a clearer vision for what I hope to achieve in 2024. And when I think about all that happened in 2023 with my business, I can’t help but think about the new fabric I had made specifically for the shop. It brought me so much joy to make fibers that I have come to love knitting with available to home sewists too. Bridging the gap of fiber accessibility in fabrics has become an unexpected passion and mission for me. I want to create more natural fiber blends in knit fabrics and introduce at least 2 this coming year. I would love to bring in more, but that’s where I will start. I also learned a lot from this release and how I might like to do things differently next time. For example I want to outsource some of the sample sewing. Although I LOVE every garment I made for the release, it would have been helpful to have designers and influencers work with it prior to release to share a different vision for the fabric and to reach new audiences. Reaching out to folks without any prior interaction isn’t exactly my strong suit, so I’m hoping that by sharing this openly some designers and influencers might be more apt to approaching me so I know I can reach out when the time is right? I also never shared the collection in its entirety last year. Made the second pattern on my pleated trouser list, the merchant and mills Pegs pant. I’ll be honest, when I first put put these on after I made them, it wasn’t love. But, after a wash and fresh eyes they are pretty darn cute. I made a size 16, only mods was adding belt loops and omitting the leg turn up. I used @matchymatchysewingclub cotton workwear twill in silver sage which is nice springy color and a good weight. Could these fabrics work any more perfectly together? 🩵 I fell in love with both of them at @1stforfabrics and knew they would make the perfect outfit. The trousers are the @hisydgraham Lane Pants (see previous posts for all the sizing details) and the fabric is a gorgeous turquoise viscose linen slub. This fabric is absolutely gorgeous! The drape, the body…and it feels amazing to wear. I think I’ll be ordering more colours, especially as it’s only £8.95pm! The top is the @truebias Jesse Tee (which is a free pattern!) Again this is a repeat make, so see my previous posts for details. The fabric is a lush cotton jersey, which comes in a couple of different colour variations, and the bright blue ribbing is a perfect match. 👕 It’s Tee Time 👕 Finding the right basic tshirt pattern can be tricky. We all have our own style preferences and for me, it’s nothing fitted, or shaped. Or long. I know I’m in the minority there but I have never and likely will never vibe with long tshirts. So. Here are three tried, tested and approved (by me) tshirts that tick all the boxes I’m looking for. The bonus? Two of these are free patterns! Oh, and to help tell them apart I used my @cricut_anz and turned plain white tees into something much more my vibe. In My Defence: This #closetcoretshirt by @closetcorepatterns is your wardrobe all rounder. It has a slightly boxy shape, comes in two lengths, short or long sleeves and a pocket should you be so inclined. I sized up to get the boxy silhouette I like and shortened it a little from the shortest length. The ratio of neckband to neckline is bang on. SABLE: The #jessetee by @truebias is your cool kid on the block staple. Oversized and with a drop shoulder, this is the perfect length for me. No need to size up here to achieve that boxy style. I do find the ratio or neckband to neckline a little on the tight side and no matter what I do, I end up with the teeniest amount of puckering. But this is just me being persnickety. All Gas: The #m8112 Learn to Sew pattern by @simplicitymccallsaustralia is a great starting point in learning to sew with knits. With more detailed instructions, you can sew a short sleeve, cuffed or long sleeve version in two different lengths. I sized up, and did need to do a straight shoulder adjustment. Possibly the reason the neckband on this one is the widest of the three. Next time I’ll reduce it a little. I used the same plain white combed cotton jersey from @spotlightstores to make sure my assessment wasn’t impacted by the fit or drape of different fabrics. The heat has finally hit Vancouver and I am MELTING!!!!!!!!!!! Summer is not my season for dressing. Gimme cozy flannels and pants please! I want to be bundled up at all times (even though I run hot and can't actually do layers). I'm trying to lessen my loathing of summer clothes by making some that are actually comfortable. I've been eyeing the #montypant from @daughterjudypatterns since it was released. What drew me was the exposed front zipper and the crisp pleats. Fit notes: I was inbetween 2 sizes and sized down based on the finished garment measurements. This was the right call for me. I made no mods and do not feel that any were needed for me. I like the length. I'm also pretty tall. So take that however you like. Fabric notes: I got this car fabric ages ago from @oursocialfabric. It's quilting cotton, which I don't normally use for garments. However, I had some voile in my stash that I bought like 4 years ago to line something & never used. I decided to try flat lining these shorts with it to give the garment more substantial body. This worked great and I'd definitely do this again if faced with a similar situation. I used some contrasting fabric for the back welt pockets. Make notes: these shorts were really easy. The trickiest part was the zipper & it wasn't particularly fiddly. They came together super quick. I'd recommend this pattern for confident beginners. The shirt: this is the #jessetee from @truebias. I made it a size down in a fabric I didn't prewash (oops) so it's more cropped than I intended (shrank after washing). However this length pairs perfectly with the shorts! Fabric was a gift from a dear friend several xmases ago. A very easy pattern, great for beginners. If you read this far: thank u lol. What are your go-to clothes for hot weather?

Like adding a jacket or a sweater or a top. What's really fun to look back on this month is that I ALWAYS prefer bottoms (pants, skirts etc) that I've made over something ready-to-wear! How fucking cool is that?????? My whole life I've struggled with my booty fitting onto clothes from stores: esp since I'm only 5'. What a me-made-may revelation!!!!!!!! Maybe that means I need to start purging some pants I don't love??? Thanks to everyone who made this month so fun... So on top I’m wearing a recently made @truebias #JesseTee in a cotton jersey, bought from @lamazifabrics and a pair of very new @helens__closet #WinslowCulottes made in a @fabricgodmother viscose twill, gifted when I was a #FabricGodmotherAmbassador Loving the new culotte addition to my wardrobe but struggling to comprehend when I left the pockets out 😂 as my hands did not know what to do with themselves! I always seem to reach for the elastic waist hack for the Winslow culottes and it’s super easy to do! We made the 6-Hour (yes, 6!) round trip to catch lunch with Helen and Sam in Courtney before heading to Campbell River to visit @discoveryfabrics - what an epic day! It was so lovely to meet Helen and Sam in person and catch all things sewing 🪡 just absolutely MAGIC ✨

BUT IM DEVASTATED that I didn’t make more for this trip but anyhooo. #memademay Day 5! It’s a work from home day so I threw on my @sewhouse7 #freerangeslacks with a @truebias #jessetee, and my @shopwiksten #unfoldingjacket. Reflecting on this outfit, I would say I generally feel like I put on clothes but I don’t style myself. Making and styling are two different skill sets and I really don’t have confidence styling my outfits, nor do I feel comfortable feeling ‘styled’. Is that weird? I have not unpacked my feelings around all of this yet, maybe it’s a self confidence thing, but as a start I’ll be trying to experiment with more outfit combinations this month and wearing my makes that aren’t on the regular rotation. Even if just for my own record here goes … It looks a lot … and I have no need to keep sewing at this pace … but I wanted to test some patterns and see what suited. Here are my thoughts - 1- The #truebiasjessetee is a lovely boxy tee … great sleeve length too. I felt swamped in the size I made so I’ve relegated it to my PJ stash and I’ll make another in a smaller size. 2- The #clobiasskirt by Soften Studio is everything I’ve heard it is. It’s a super simple sew and fits and falls beautifully. Possibly my fave make of the week. 3- The #imbysflowytop by Karmme Apparel is lovely … I’ve already worn this one out and about. When I make it again I think I’ll scoop the front neckline slightly because I prefer my necklines a little lower … but I do feel comfortable in it just as it is. 4- The #islatoppattern by Tiarnas Closet .. another top similar to the Imbys … but with front ties on the bodice. It was also an easy make although the instructions are not the best I’ve read. Next time I’ll cut the front on the fold and lengthen the sleeve a smidge. 5- The #commonstitchloungewear set a Peppermint Magazine pattern .. made from a gingham doona cover just as a tester … and fast became a favourite for lounging at home. This was so easy to make and so damn comfy! 6- The #inthefoldswidelegpants also Peppermint Magazine … I spent so much time on these and yet they are probably unwearable. The pattern was fantastic … I was not! I don’t think I paid enough attention to the seam allowances and they turned out too large! I also didn’t do a great job of the fly or waistband .. despite all my best efforts - once again seam allowance might have tripped me up there. Anyway .. I’ll chalk these up to experience and move on. The fabric had been in my stash for awhile so the only thing I really bought was the zipper … I can handle the loss of a zipper. 😆 . . #simplymardimade #sewingprojects #handmadewardrobe

In my quest to find the ultimate loungewear patterns for the cooler months, I jumped at the chance to apply to pattern test the @tammy.handmade Freya Flare Trousers #tammyhandmadefreya These stretch knit pants are all about comfort and feature a slight flared leg - not so flared that it’s screaming 1970’s, but just enough to make you feel like one of the cool kids! These pants were a breeze to sew up, only taking about an hour to whip up thanks to being able to just run all seams through the overlocker. I made a size 12 as I wasn’t too keen on the pants being too tight, however I would probably consider sizing down once next time around the waist, and maybe grading to a 12 in the leg. I couldn’t resist making a matching @truebias #jessetee (my favourite oversized tee pattern) . . . I know I kind of look like I’m wearing hospital scrubs but I’m totally ok with that 🧑‍⚕️ I used a lovely honeycomb knit from @supercheapfabrics in colour Anchor. It has the perfect amount of stretch to it and the subtle texture creates some interest to the fabric. Faux dress. A fress, if you will. A draux? Drauxess? Fressaux? Top //Pattern: #truebiasjesse @truebias, size 6. //Mods: The length is close to the cropped view of the tee, but a bit below. I was working with a scrap so I used whatever length was available. This fabric has minimal stretch so I considered using a black rib for the neckband, but ultimately didn’t want the contrast. So I cut the neckband out a bit longer than the pattern piece so that it only needed to stretch a little to go around the neck. I probably could’ve made it slightly smaller, but it works fine. //Fit: I could technically size down one or two sizes, but this is my preferred fit. It’s just enough oversized for the cropped view. If I were to make the long view, I would size up so all of it was extra oversized. Skirt //Pattern: #elementalpencilskirt @sewhouse7, size S. //Mods: No intentional mods. I cut it against the grain on accident so I don’t really get to benefit from what little stretch this fabric had to begin with. A quick sew today 🤎 This Jesse T-shirt pattern is free from @truebias I lengthened the bodice by 2” and used a twin needle to finish the hem. Perfect fit and it looks so neat. I finally figured out how to fix skipping stitches issue with twin needles. Never thought of changing thread tension to avoid the problem before I watched @yoursara_k ‘s tutorial. Lowered the thread tension to 2. Lengthened the stitch to 3-4. Problem solved! 👍It works like a charm. Two new makes: The Shepherd skirt by Merchant & Mills and Jesse tee by True Bias. Both were actually test samples but I’m glad they turned out ok and will be wearable. 🧵 First, #theshepherdskirt I’ve been looking at some pleated skirt patterns for a while and chose this one as it’s seemed the most casual. Loved the button closure on each side and was hoping it would add some volume to my hips, helping with the overall A-line shape. I added 10cm to the length but if you don’t, you still have some wriggle room as the hem is 7,5cm as per pattern. I made Size 10 which I would say is spot on as I’m usually uk10. It has shocking 5 piece pocket construction. Each! Plus interfacing. it will test your organising skills 😆, I suggest clearly labelling what’s what once you cut. Precision is key here, don’t forget your notches! Once the skirt was finished, I decided to add one more buttons on the pocket as it was gaping open a bit. Could have added more actually but I run out of buttons. Next time I would definitely add 3 or even 4 button on each pocket plus 2 at the waistband. The fabric is cotton poplin from my stash. 🧵Now, the tee. #jessetee is a free pattern if you sign up to @truebias newsletter and it comes in classic length or cropped. I made size 2 cropped. Once finished, I decided to thread through elastic at the hem, as overall this gives that kind of tucked-in look without adding any bulk to the skirt waistband. I used cotton French terry in champagne from @littlelegsfabrics . Celebrating #memademay by going on a trip!!! Jk, this trip has actually been planned for 10 months. But the timing was coincidentally great to get some #airportselfies of my #memade outfit for a day of travel. //Patterns: #truebiasjesse by @truebias , size 6; and #thebayflares by @the.hemming, size 4. //Mods: The top is hemmed halfway between the cropped and full length versions. I wasn’t sure what size to make the pants after cruising the hashtag, so I went with what the pattern recommended, which is a size 4. I wanted to use a wider elastic so I lengthened the very top of the pant by an inch or so, which turned out to be unnecessary. I hemmed it by 3/4” to keep a little more length and the hem hits about 1/2”-1” above the ground, which is my preferred length for this style of pant. At first, the pant felt and looked tight on my thighs and 🍑 and I thought I made a horrible mistake with the size. And then I wore them around my house for a bit and they loosened up enough for me to like it and not have to recut it. //Fabric: The softest charcoal ribbed knit thrifted from @makingspacethrift. It gets sheer when stretched out, another reason why I was worried about the size and tightness. This is my first #madelineshorts that I pattern tested for @madswick_studio which will be released really soon!! I followed the size chart and I fall under size 4. It has more ease than my other shorts but that is the intended fit of this pattern. It is very comfy! My fabric is a thicker wool like fabric, not much drape and more structured. The instructions are very good and this is a great beginner pattern. I like the pocket construction and I find it easy since it’s anchored to the waist. I made total of 3 pairs (2 woven and 1 knit) already since I got the pattern. That’s how much I like it!! Cute and comfy 🥰 This is my first time testing a pattern and Madeline is very pleasant to work with. She responds fast. Also shout out to my pattern tester buddy @sew_extracurricular. The Jesse T Shirt by @truebias - I liked it so much I made it twice ☺️ I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect relaxed T shirt for quite some time and this one had been on my list to try for a while. I’m so pleased to have finally got around to trying it because I absolutely love it!! Jesse has a boxy style, dropped shoulders and a wide neckline. I am super fussy about necklines but this one is really comfortable to wear. My black version is an organic cotton jersey and the white is a viscose jersey so is much more drapey than the black. Both fabrics were from my local @johnlewis. I cannot wait to make more of these. Nothing fancy to see here, but sometimes one just needs a quick and dirty sew to add a wardrobe staple to the mix - enter my new @truebias #jessetee ❤️❤️ I had this 90cm jersey knit remnant in my stash from @doopsdesigns which I knew was destined to become some kind of funky tee. I had already used a small amount for a tube top, so was able to use the left overs for the back and front and added contrast sleeves and neck binding by chopping up an old white tee that was destined for the bin. This tee was sewn up using a combination of my @jukidomesticau airthread overlocker and @guetermann_creativ_au #maraflex thread. This was my first time using this thread and is an absolute game changer when sewing with knits. Sewing knits is still a huge learning curve for me, but the slightly stretchy nature of this thread means a more professional finished looking garment (goodbye zig zag stitch!). This is my second #truebiasjesse that I have made and this honestly took me about an hour to sew. The pattern comes in this cropped version as well as a longer length, and for an oversized tee it has the perfect amount of ease to it. For reference I made a size 10 with no modifications. A make from a few weeks ago and this #jessetee by @truebias has been worn on high rotation ever since! I love an oversized tee - pattern is a relaxed fit, however I still made a size larger than the pattern called for when it came to my measurements. I measured a RTW tee that I already had and compared the finished garment measurements to that . . . and it turned out just right! Made from an Organic Cotton Jersey from @spotlightstores in a retro tie dye colourway. Love it with styled with jeans, but also with bike shorts for a super casual feel. Paola Workwear Jacket by the @fabricsstorecom for Andrew. I used flannel scraps for this wearable muslin. At the time, I had a difficult time with the collar and I haven't gone back to make this again. 3. Adrienne Blouse by @fridaypatterncompany . This was a wearable toile and I love it! I've only made one more, but I have lots planned. 4. Matching set with the Luna Tank by @helens__closet and Easy Fit Yoga Pants by @jsterndesigns . 5. Nolan pants by @seamwork . I made a zipper fly! Tragically, the pants are two sizes too big and I need to re-home them. 6. Jesse tee by @truebias . I like this shirt a lot, even though it's a tad too short. Could these fabrics work any more perfectly together? 🩵 I fell in love with both of them at @1stforfabrics and knew they would make the perfect outfit. The trousers are the @hisydgraham Lane Pants (see previous posts for all the sizing details) and the fabric is a gorgeous turquoise viscose linen slub. This fabric is absolutely gorgeous! The drape, the body…and it feels amazing to wear. I think I’ll be ordering more colours, especially as it’s only £8.95pm! The top is the @truebias Jesse Tee (which is a free pattern!) Again this is a repeat make, so see my previous posts for details. The fabric is a lush cotton jersey, which comes in a couple of different colour variations, and the bright blue ribbing is a perfect match. I’ve gone for a quick palate cleanser before I start another, more time-consuming make. This is the Jesse t-shirt by True Bias, which is a free pattern if you sign up to their mailing list! I’ve made quite a lot of stretch t-shirts and this is another really easy make, with great instructions. I deviated only slightly to try another method of enclosing the neckline with bias binding, using a tutorial from @The Foldline, and I’m so impressed with the neat finish! ✂️ I made a straight size 6 based on my measurements. As it’s drafted for 5’5” height, and as I’m 5’8” and went for the cropped view, I added a couple of inches to the length. 🧵 Fabric is a lovely soft cotton jersey from my stash, originally from @Tilly and the Buttons. La tela dels texans i les butxaques és de @lafiladora Me Made May és un repte de costura iniciat per @sozoblog en el que cadascú tria els seus objectius durant el mes de maig. Alguns anys hi he participat sense superat el repte i d'altres, l'he completat. L'any passat, no hi vaig participar perquè la relació amb el cos canviant de l'embaràs no va ser bona. Tornava a tenir els mateixos complexes que de l'adolescència. Enguany volia enfocar el repte des de la neutralitat corporal i des de l'amabilitat, i per això vaig voler seguir una llista de consignes divertides. Però també és una eina que pot ajudar en la sostenibilitat i a reivindicar espais que moltes vegades han estat vetats a segons quines persones. Segur que la repercussió de les accions d'una sola persona és petita, però el món de les cosidores té un sentiment de comunitat molt fort i s'han aconseguit canvis. Here’s my latest make, the @truebias Jesse tee! This is the second time I’ve made this T-shirt and I have to say, I love it!! The first time I made it, I used a bamboo jersey which was obviously a lot more drapey, and didn’t bother hemming it at all - I also made that in the cropped version, which I love. This is the standard length which is actually not too long, I’ve just tucked the front into my jeans. I made a size 10 - it’s a looser fit so comes up a bit over sized. I am here for the looser fit these days 😂 This cotton jersey is from @higgsandhiggs which I got at the #stitchfestival2025 - it’s beautifully soft and I love that it’s not white, it’s actually like a taupe colour, which I thought was quite unusual! I had to do some riding before I could officially name the #cascadiajoggers from @roadtrippatternco the ULTIMATE bike pant. • I’ve been on the hunt for a good pattern to make some pants for mountain biking when I saw Ellie release this new pattern. With a knit waistband and articulated knee, this pattern is designed for a stretch fabric to move with you. I love the side panel pocket with thoughtful details like a pocket bellow and overlap to keep things in place with no need for a zipper. • I made a size 0 with no other adjustments and am pretty happy with the fit. I will likely take in the waistband 1” on each side to make it a bit more fitted and I could use another 1/2” or so in the rise to accommodate my seated position on the bike. I love how it fits in the thigh and knee, and the cuff is such a great detail to keep my pants from getting caught in my chain. • I used leftover Airwave from @ripstopbytheroll that had previously been gifted for these pants with a Recycled Brushed Tricot from @saltlakesewciety for the waistband and cuffs. This color combo is so much fun and I have been so happy with the combination of breathability and durability with these fabrics. • I also have to mention that @wild_rye_ has some great women’s mountain biking pants, if it seems daunting to sew your own. Size 10, short version lengthened 2" Fabric: #FabricanaFabrics left over from a Toaster Sweater 2, made 3 years ago Ribbing: @oursocialfabric Label: @little.rosy.cheeks "I Made This" Sewing notes: Did the intermediate method of the enclosed seams neckband. I like that clean finish. Buttonholes: I had problems with them and I appreciate all the advice I got when I asked for tips in my stories. I did learn something new about my new Pfaff 710 - it has a special knit buttonhole that is less dense. I also reduced the presser foot pressure. So the top two buttonholes went well, but not the bottom due to the seam allowance bump inside. Got part way and it jammed, so I had to unpick. 😩 So I put the regular presser foot on and did 2 rows of zigzag stitches, left the tails long and used them to hand-sew the bar tacks. I learned this from @sewmuchfashion who used this for a jeans waistband buttonhole. Made a tee yesterday and got a wisdom tooth removed today, please enjoy my swollen face 😍 I used the @truebias #jessetee with a few cm added to sleeve length, in thrifted cotton which already has such a nice patina! I embroidered Sleep Token on the front because I’ve been listening to them so much, they’ve really wormed into my brain and I’ve had Emergence on repeat since it dropped. Celebrating the end of #memademay2025 with my #truebiasjesse hack for day 31! The Jesse T-shirt pattern was a perfect template for a hack. I added in the Nikko top neckline to the existing bodice pieces, and just added a collar and exposed zip. I think I've had this blue check knit in my stash for over a decade so I am delighted to finally work out what to do with it! I did not cut this out straight but I think I got away with it 😓 I love a cute little knit collar and I'm really happy with this one! T-shirt pattern from @truebias. Knit fabric - heaven knows. I'm not sure I have any #memademay conclusions yet - like last year I could do with some more solid colour items. Maybe some trousers to throw on when I can't be bothered? Enjoying my new pink #truebiasjesse tee for day 18 of #memademay2025. During last year's me-made-May, I realised I needed more plain colour items to increase flexibility. And since then I have sewn...one other item that is plain. And it was also pink 🩷 So I've doubled numbers! The @truebias sew-along videos were great, and I especially liked the recommended zig-zag stitch settings because for the first time in a long time, my zig-zag stitch didn't shred my thread! So putting it together was breezy, despite the lighting here making my collar insertion look rougher than it is. I'm chuffed with this fun staple! Tee pattern by @truebias. It’s #SewFrugal25 Reveal Day 🥳 My Instagram feed has been full of amazing free pattern inspiration all day ~ it’s been delightful! I shared in my March Plans Vlog that I was planning to make the @truebias Jesse Tee - and that’s exactly what I’ve done, although I’ve switched fabrics. I had a remnant of this JOYFUL cotton jersey from another project & it was the perfect amount for the cropped version of Jesse (which really doesn’t take much fabric at all!) I added black ribbing for the neckband as I prefer a contrast. My measurements put me in a size 8 for the bust & hip and a 4 for the waist, but I decided on a size 6 based on the finished measurements. I’m happy with this size ~ it’s just the right amount of oversized for me. Obviously it is very cropped, but again it’s sitting just at a perfect length for me. It does come with a longer option too, if cropped isn’t your thing! I didn’t make my usual broad shoulder adjustment, with this being a dropped shoulder pattern, so it perhaps doesn’t look as ‘dropped’ as the pattern intends 😅 This feels like a SUPER frugal make, with it being a leftover remnant of fabric too. And I’ve already lined up 3 more fabrics for Jesse, so I think that shows it’s a success! Two new makes: The Shepherd skirt by Merchant & Mills and Jesse tee by True Bias. Both were actually test samples but I’m glad they turned out ok and will be wearable. 🧵 First, #theshepherdskirt I’ve been looking at some pleated skirt patterns for a while and chose this one as it’s seemed the most casual. Loved the button closure on each side and was hoping it would add some volume to my hips, helping with the overall A-line shape. I added 10cm to the length but if you don’t, you still have some wriggle room as the hem is 7,5cm as per pattern. I made Size 10 which I would say is spot on as I’m usually uk10. It has shocking 5 piece pocket construction. Each! Plus interfacing. it will test your organising skills 😆, I suggest clearly labelling what’s what once you cut. Precision is key here, don’t forget your notches! Once the skirt was finished, I decided to add one more buttons on the pocket as it was gaping open a bit. Could have added more actually but I run out of buttons. Next time I would definitely add 3 or even 4 button on each pocket plus 2 at the waistband. The fabric is cotton poplin from my stash. 🧵Now, the tee. #jessetee is a free pattern if you sign up to @truebias newsletter and it comes in classic length or cropped. I made size 2 cropped. Once finished, I decided to thread through elastic at the hem, as overall this gives that kind of tucked-in look without adding any bulk to the skirt waistband. I used cotton French terry in champagne from @littlelegsfabrics . The Jesse T Shirt by @truebias - I liked it so much I made it twice ☺️ I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect relaxed T shirt for quite some time and this one had been on my list to try for a while. I’m so pleased to have finally got around to trying it because I absolutely love it!! Jesse has a boxy style, dropped shoulders and a wide neckline. I am super fussy about necklines but this one is really comfortable to wear. My black version is an organic cotton jersey and the white is a viscose jersey so is much more drapey than the black. Both fabrics were from my local @johnlewis. I cannot wait to make more of these. Next I want to try the cropped length as I think that will go great with floaty skirts and trousers in the summer time (if it ever comes!!). Have you tried this pattern yet? Nothing fancy to see here, but sometimes one just needs a quick and dirty sew to add a wardrobe staple to the mix - enter my new @truebias #jessetee ❤️❤️ I had this 90cm jersey knit remnant in my stash from @doopsdesigns which I knew was destined to become some kind of funky tee. I had already used a small amount for a tube top, so was able to use the left overs for the back and front and added contrast sleeves and neck binding by chopping up an old white tee that was destined for the bin. This tee was sewn up using a combination of my @jukidomesticau airthread overlocker and @guetermann_creativ_au #maraflex thread. This was my first time using this thread and is an absolute game changer when sewing with knits. Sewing knits is still a huge learning curve for me, but the slightly stretchy nature of this thread means a more professional finished looking garment (goodbye zig zag stitch!). This is my second #truebiasjesse that I have made and this honestly took me about an hour to sew. The pattern comes in this cropped version as well as a longer length, and for an oversized tee it has the perfect amount of ease to it. For reference I made a size 10 with no modifications. In my quest to find the ultimate loungewear patterns for the cooler months, I jumped at the chance to apply to pattern test the @tammy.handmade Freya Flare Trousers #tammyhandmadefreya These stretch knit pants are all about comfort and feature a slight flared leg - not so flared that it’s screaming 1970’s, but just enough to make you feel like one of the cool kids! These pants were a breeze to sew up, only taking about an hour to whip up thanks to being able to just run all seams through the overlocker. I made a size 12 as I wasn’t too keen on the pants being too tight, however I would probably consider sizing down once next time around the waist, and maybe grading to a 12 in the leg. I couldn’t resist making a matching @truebias #jessetee (my favourite oversized tee pattern) . . . I know I kind of look like I’m wearing hospital scrubs but I’m totally ok with that 🧑‍⚕️ I used a lovely honeycomb knit from @supercheapfabrics in colour Anchor. It has the perfect amount of stretch to it and the subtle texture creates some interest to the fabric. A make from a few weeks ago and this #jessetee by @truebias has been worn on high rotation ever since! I love an oversized tee - pattern is a relaxed fit, however I still made a size larger than the pattern called for when it came to my measurements. I measured a RTW tee that I already had and compared the finished garment measurements to that . . . and it turned out just right! Made from an Organic Cotton Jersey from @spotlightstores in a retro tie dye colourway. Love it with styled with jeans, but also with bike shorts for a super casual feel. First time I have made a basic tee - can’t believe how quickly it came together. A quick sew today 🤎 This Jesse T-shirt pattern is free from @truebias I lengthened the bodice by 2” and used a twin needle to finish the hem. Perfect fit and it looks so neat. I finally figured out how to fix skipping stitches issue with twin needles. Never thought of changing thread tension to avoid the problem before I watched @yoursara_k ‘s tutorial. Lowered the thread tension to 2. Lengthened the stitch to 3-4. Problem solved! 👍It works like a charm. I had the joy of testing the #sewinclusivesizing to 61.5” hip @truebias #truebiasrileyoveralls and I’m, frankly, unabashedly impressed with myself. 😂 After some consideration, I decided to lean in to the classic overalls design and go with traditional mid-toned 10 Oz denim (I think) and a gold contrasting topstitch with Gutermann 70 in ochre. I have a real luxury in my sewing room with two lockstitch sewing machines— so I set one up for topstitching with the ochre in the needle and navy Gutermann 100 in the bobbin— and my other machine had the 100 navy in both needle and bobbin for assembly. If you like the contrast stitching idea and have only one sewing machine like a normal person— some libraries let you check out sewing machines, or find a like-minded sewing friend and get your machines together! This is my first #madelineshorts that I pattern tested for @madswick_studio which will be released really soon!! I followed the size chart and I fall under size 4. It has more ease than my other shorts but that is the intended fit of this pattern. It is very comfy! My fabric is a thicker wool like fabric, not much drape and more structured. The instructions are very good and this is a great beginner pattern. I like the pocket construction and I find it easy since it’s anchored to the waist. I made total of 3 pairs (2 woven and 1 knit) already since I got the pattern. That’s how much I like it!! Cute and comfy 🥰 This is my first time testing a pattern and Madeline is very pleasant to work with. She responds fast. Also shout out to my pattern tester buddy @sew_extracurricular. Faux dress. A fress, if you will. A draux? Drauxess? Fressaux? Top //Pattern: #truebiasjesse @truebias, size 6. //Mods: The length is close to the cropped view of the tee, but a bit below. I was working with a scrap so I used whatever length was available. This fabric has minimal stretch so I considered using a black rib for the neckband, but ultimately didn’t want the contrast. So I cut the neckband out a bit longer than the pattern piece so that it only needed to stretch a little to go around the neck. I probably could’ve made it slightly smaller, but it works fine. //Fit: I could technically size down one or two sizes, but this is my preferred fit. It’s just enough oversized for the cropped view. If I were to make the long view, I would size up so all of it was extra oversized. Skirt //Pattern: #elementalpencilskirt @sewhouse7, size S. //Mods: No intentional mods. I cut it against the grain on accident so I don’t really get to benefit from what little stretch this fabric had to begin with. Celebrating #memademay by going on a trip!!! Jk, this trip has actually been planned for 10 months. But the timing was coincidentally great to get some #airportselfies of my #memade outfit for a day of travel. //Patterns: #truebiasjesse by @truebias , size 6; and #thebayflares by @the.hemming, size 4. //Mods: The top is hemmed halfway between the cropped and full length versions. I wasn’t sure what size to make the pants after cruising the hashtag, so I went with what the pattern recommended, which is a size 4. I wanted to use a wider elastic so I lengthened the very top of the pant by an inch or so, which turned out to be unnecessary. I hemmed it by 3/4” to keep a little more length and the hem hits about 1/2”-1” above the ground, which is my preferred length for this style of pant. At first, the pant felt and looked tight on my thighs and 🍑 and I thought I made a horrible mistake with the size. And then I wore them around my house for a bit and they loosened up enough for me to like it and not have to recut it. //Fabric: The softest charcoal ribbed knit thrifted from @makingspacethrift. It gets sheer when stretched out, another reason why I was worried about the size and tightness.
