Packing Guide has arrived! A full me-made trip during Me Made May just feels right 🤌 I wore everything except for the light green self-draft tank because I had a last minute meeting come up that it wouldn't have been appropriate for! Nothing but black linen sets this summer! I wasn't sure the Aster Top was going to work for me since it's quite cropped, and that's not really my jam. But I loved the neckline and buttons down the back so I took the plunge and I'm so glad I did. I lengthened it about 5 inches and I definitely see more of these, along with the dress version, in my future. Also, the finishes in the pattern are fantastic. This was my first pants version of the Foxie Boxies and they are so comfy! Perfect match with linen fabric although I'd love to try them in something flowy like tencell or rayon. I just finished a shorts version in sweatshirt fleece and I can confirm I will be living in these. ✨Aster Top✨ Made a quick wearable toile of the True Bias Aster Top. I’ve got plans to make the dress so I just wanted to sew the top as a toile. Didn’t take too long and I love the square neckline. I initially was thinking of using this pattern with the linen/tencel fabric but with the buttons down the back, I decided it’s better suited to a sturdier fabric so I’ll be using a cotton or linen when I make the dress. I’m not sure I’ve styled it quite right here! I’m not used to showing my midriff. There’s a few adjustments I would make if I wanted to make it again as a top. Adjustments like increasing the length and slight adjustments to the left shoulder. Finally getting around to posting some of these travel fits. Just before leaving in May I made 10 pieces of clothing in one week. I had unintentionally lost some weight and was panicked I had no clothes that fit 😅 This @truebias #truebiasaster top and #bisqueshorts set is probably my fave, and @blackbirdfabrics everyday linen gives the pieces a nice weight and luxe feel. The only mod I made was to shorten the top and the rise of the shorts by 1”. As a side note, I saw several negative reviews about the #bisquetrousers which put me off making them for a long time. But I have to say the construction and fit are amazing, so much so I made three pairs of shorts and the tapered view pants in one week! Can’t wait for the new tailored version @vivianshaochen

A little nod to my roots and summer solstice that we had last week. I’m from Latvia 🇱🇻 originally btw. And summer solstice celebrations are BIG there! Traditionally we would make flower wreaths to wear throughout the night and we would go into cornflower fields to pick them. My favourites were cornflower and daisies together. I can still smell those fields! Apparently, our smell memories are the strongest! 😉 Anyway, I embroidered some cornflower on my skirt, as you would 😆 I was planning some embroidery for the top too but by the time I got the skirt done I was done with it all together. I can see this being a classic in my wardrobe, not just for summer solstice (last time I was there celebrating it was 15 years ago 🤷‍♀️) but also for some Greek 🇬🇷 holidays! 🧵skirt is lined version of #shepherdskirt by @merchantandmills . My finished #truebiasaster top. I had hoped this mock up to test the pattern would be wearable but it turned out so well 😁 I only added some length to the hem which was just a personal preference. It's hard to tell with this patterned fabric but the style of the bust darts in this pattern (based on french style darts I think?), combined with the cut of the necklines and arm holes creates such a beautifully fitting, clean lined silhouette. I stumbled upon the @truebias Aster top and dress recently, which fell under my radar before. After making a top, I immediately cut out a dress because I loved it so much! I made a 14 and took 1/2” out of the back strap and 1/2” out of the center front fold to help with neckline gaping. I also lengthened it 8” for a midi version. I love the fish eye darts for shaping in the back, the mitered corners at the hemline, and the wide straps! I’ve been having another go at sorting out this dress, now that we are coming into summer again. I’ve now cut out the lining as it it was annoying me and I felt like it was affecting the fall of the fabric. I’ve also fixed the back seam because I fixed my machine and it is now doing button holes again! The straps are still too long so without modifying them I can only wear it with a top underneath otherwise it sits too low. I really don’t want to modify the straps as I can’t figure out how to do it without ruining the tidy construction and finish! Me Made May - Day 19 We’ve got another kids party today and I’m dressing warm and casual. I’m wearing my #pomonapants, #truebiasaster and #homecardigan. I made both of these last year but I’ve never posted them. The cardigan I wear a lot when it’s cold, but the top I rarely wear. I used some scrap cotton voile for the pockets because I couldn't deal with pattern matching 😅 It's my coord entry to the #st4s25 challenge hosted by @sewing_in_spain and @jenleggsews I made a size 10 in the Aster and added 3cm to the length and a size 14 in the Emerson high rise shorts, View D. I didn't do the double fold on the shorts hem so gained 1/4" in length. This coord will be perfect for my summer holidays in... the UK! 😂

🖤 Black linen on repeat. 🖤 I wish I could remember where I read that a black linen bias skirt is the gateway into bias cut garments. I get it now. It's supremely comfortable and everything looks good in black linen. Consider me converted. It’s a very @truebias outfit. I tend to do a lot of adjustments for true bias patterns, which isn’t surprising, my measurements are careening all over the size chart, but it’s been worth the effort, both of these patterns are staples for me. The top is a #truebiasaster, I made it the same combination of sizes as my first one, size 8 front bodice, between size 10 and 12 back bodice, moved the size 8 straps to the 10/12 position, left off the button placket. If you leave off the button placket you have to do the burrito method and every time I do I go back and look at the reel @kelseymariewhite has about it because my brain doesn’t want to remember how it works. Pants are the #truebiaslanderpants, I think these ended up being about a size 6 in the waist and 12 in the hip, with two inches added to the rise and slightly widened legs. I originally made these when my measurements were slightly different, but right now my measurements right now are upper bust 35”, bust 34.5”, waist 27.5” and hip 41.5” and everything still fits great.

I realized I was wearing two things that I’ve never shared, my hair was clean (it really doesn’t need to be, but for me, today, it helped) and the light was nice, the babies were sleeping, so here are two things I made that I love and wear A LOT. And think about making other versions of A LOT. @spaghetti_western_sewing #swshenriettaskirt and @truebias #truebiasaster, aka the perfect all occasion answer to the what should I wear question. Fit info: I sewed the 2XS for the Henrietta, which is a size down from my hip measurements (42” hip, my waist and hips always are at different places in size charts and I don’t like too much fabric in an elastic waistband). True bias aster I’m all over the place on the size chart (36” high bust, 35” bust, 28” waist) and after a toile I did a size 8 for the front bodice, and cut between a 10 and a 12 in the back, and moved the size 8 straps to the 10/12 position. It worked really well! Nothing gapes, I don’t have any uncomfortable restriction. I skipped the buttons in the back. The construction is beautiful, I normally hate facings but these stay in place so well which is so nice, I’m glad I gave them a chance this time and didn’t do a bias facing.

Sometime in the last year, I decided I wanted to make a handmade wardrobe. I've been sewing all my life, but never very seriously. I am like my dad in always wanting to make something, do something with my hands. When he passed away last year, sewing became my mechanism for reaching back and connecting with him. I have learned so many new skills. I sew almost every day, even if it's for 10 or 15 minutes. I love the feeling of finishing something and wearing it. I'm finding that it's more thrilling to wear things after the second or third or fourth wash, when I can really appreciate my new skills.
