@sewhouse7 #remyraglan I made a Remy Raglan Blouse out of this viscose crepe, purchased from Spotlight many years ago. This is a wearable trial after not having made it for several years. Unfortunately the fabric is not the best match for this view of the pattern. A lot of the details disappear in the busy pattern and the cuffs shape is lost in all of the drape, however I think it will still get a lot of wear. Hello from 1970s Coventry. Day 6 of #memademay2025 I’m wearing: @andotherstories top @nikewomen trainers (which are so comfortable) @sezane earrings @truebias Blair Skirt made in @sistermintaka corduroy I don’t like this skirt. It’s too big so I keep pushing my tummy out to keep the skirt up. The belt becomes loose as the corduroy is so smooth, making it purely decorative at this point. The length feels awkward and the style isn’t very me. I wanted to love it. I imagined the silhouette might be cute like the Lora Dress, but I don’t think I can compare them. This just doesn’t work for me. It’s a well designed pattern but it’s not one I’ll reach for again. It’s not my style and that’s ok. Learning to make clothes, experimenting with styles, silhouettes and fabrics, means that you’ll find some things that don’t work, but you’ll also find things that make you feel incredible. Couple of recent makes in Ace Animal Print Denim from @fabricgodmother This denim is wonderful to sew! This was my second pair of jeans and my first skirt and I'm so pleased with how they came together and the fit. I lengthened the skirt by 2" which turned out well! Trouser pattern is the Sera Pants by @papercutpatterns and the skirt is the Blair Skirt by @truebias I also knitted the jumper in the final photo - it's the Roads Sweater by @ozetta in De Rerum Natura Gilliatt and I've hardly stopped wearing it since it came off the blocking mats #handmade #sewing #knitting #blairskirt #serapants

After seeing @modelled_by_madge Blair skirt I thought, I could wear that! I'd seen the pattern on it's release but didn't think it was very me. Sue's changed my mind. I had this denim in my stash and it was just the right amount. I added 2" to the midi length in the hopes of it being summer friendly (rarely will i wear shorter than a maxi!). I didn't expect to wear for winter but it does go with this jumper and tights. I had help in @textileexpress with the button choice as I was unsure whether to go so light or with a darker brown. We definitely made the right decision. I added back pockets for the look as well as the practicality of phone carrying. And of course, a few @kylieandthemachine labels for good measure. I’ve been finding it very hard to take nice pictures of my makes, so I haven’t posted in quite a while, which doesn’t mean I didn’t make anything in that time! But I really want to get back into sharing my sewing adventures, and also get over the reasons I don’t like to take photos of myself right now. I now took this as an opportunity to experiment with Procreate on my new iPad to try to create a more interesting background than just a white wall lol So this is my first try at the Blair Skirt by True Bias, using a stretch 8 wale corduroy in the colour brick that I bought a year or so ago at Les Tissés here in Montreal. Although I really like the fabric, it probably wasn’t the best choice as the pattern called for woven fabrics and this corduroy had a bit of stretch to it, which maybe explains some construction issues I had where in the end the pieces didnt fit together anymore. The button plackets ended up to be different lengths, but it’s not too obvious I think. The other thing that went wrong was the buttons I chose. They were very difficult to install, were constantly falling off again, and they are made to be a bit loose it seems. This and the bit of stretchyness of the fabric probably is the cause of the last few bottom buttons unbuttoning themselves quite often. I may need to sew them closed… The waist is also becoming a bit looser after wearing it for a while, I might need to size down the waist next time. I went for the mini length, but added 1 inch. It’s release day for #sralma and I had a lovely time testing the pattern! @sycamoreroadpatterns put a lot of work into the pattern and it shows. There are three different views and lined and unlined options, and the drafting is really well done. It’s rare for a blouse to fit me without adjustments, but this one does. It’s super cute too! I made the lined version here in a gingham linen I found at a thrift store, and I’m looking forward to making a long sleeved, unlined version next. Maybe with some sheer fabric? I’m wearing it here with my @truebias #blairskirt made in a stretch corduroy fabric.

I’ve had my eyes on this skirt pattern for a very long time. It’s so elegant but also cute and kind of French? I love it! But yes, I kept resisting buying it because I had doubts about the fit for me. But when a sale came around and while I was having a weak moment I went for it. As I said I wasn’t sure if it would suit me. The high waist for example is really nice but I have a very short upper body which is not ideal. The button closure also made me doubt because I don’t like gaping holes in between the buttons. Nevertheless, the Arielle skirt kept calling my name! So I made a “move”😉 and bought it. I first made the skirt as is, but for grading between two sizes and choosing a length between the two intended lengths. I was very happy with the result, although the waist really came too high (stomach height) and I didn’t like the placement of the buttons. But no worries, I thought about solutions and redrafted the pattern. I moved the button closure to where the right dart would be. I lowered the waist band and shortened the skirt. See pics for details on what I did. And wow, I love this skirt! I also love that I made it with denim (I literally never wear denim, until now that is) I like the blue color and the feel of the fabric. Let’s hope that it’ll go a long way! This stripy skirt is my new favourite thing I made ❤️ I love how the pattern gave me an opportunity to play with the stripes placement, which I had some fun with exploring different options. It's my second Blair Skirt, but this time I changed the pockets, tracing a pinafore I have. This type of pocket is more comfortable for me, even though I also liked the look of the original pockets of the pattern. The fabric was a remnant from my local fabric store Tissu Social. I found out later that it’s a Sevenberry Japanese cotton as I was contemplating to order more of it online, because I did some mistakes while cutting and I had no fabric left. But I ended up working with what I got and frankensteining it together, which worked out fine in the end! But for next time I will keep in mind to check twice and cut once 😅 For this stripy fabric, I should have also done less top stitching than instructed, to not distract from the pattern. I did flat felled seams on the sides but should have gone for french seams to have less top stitching visible. After seeing a great version of this skirt made by @emsewhappy I decided to give it a go. It has multiple length options & can be sewn with or without pockets, so it’s easy to achieve different looks. I wanted something casual so I went with the midi length and cargo pockets. _____________________________________________ Pattern: #BlairSkirt by @TrueBias Fit : I made a Size 2 with extra taken out of the back to account for my pancake backside! I shortened the midi length by 2.5cm/1” and drafted a curved waistband. I may have to slim my side seams slightly knowing how twill softens & grows🤞but I don’t want it uncomfortable when I sit, nor do I want gaping between the buttons so I’ll wait until I wear a bit before deciding. Fabric: Lived in Twill colour Kelp from @blackbirdfabrics 300gsm which is on the heavy side for this pattern but it seems to have worked okay. I absolutely love this fabric, it’s so soft! Buttons: 18mm beaten bronze from @allbuttons Newtown who deserve a mention after their exceptional customer service. So helpful and easy to deal with over the phone when I realised I needed more of buttons. I’ve been sewing lots recently but sort of lost my posting mojo on the grid. I thought I’d kick off with one of my Lenne tops. This is the second one I’ve made in a stretch velvet/jersey. It’s super soft and the ruching at the shoulder makes it look like a much more difficult make than it is! I shortened the arms by about 4 inches and also took the sleeves in as the fit was baggy on me. Other than that I didn’t make any mods! From cutting to wearing it was about 1.5 hrs, it would be even quicker with a more stable jersey. This one liked to roll about and slither away! One for Mrs Shaw. This make is a special one for me because of the fabric. The wool and lining were both given to me when I started dressmaking by a close family friend, Mrs Shaw. Unfortunately I didn’t ever get round to making anything with them before she passed away last year in her 90s. For that reason I really wanted to make something to wear this winter that had as much attention to detail and care put in to it as she did to all of the personalised knitted jumpers she made me growing up. I spent a few years trying to think of the right garment to make as I wanted it to be something that I would get a lot of wear out of but also that Mrs Shaw would approve of. Last year after I made the @truebias Blair skirt by in denim, I knew that I’d found just the right pattern for the wool. Having made the skirt before I spent a lot of time on this one trying to get a really professional looking finish. I (tried) to pattern match the pockets and pocket flaps, sew the lining in all the way round and ofcourse add a @little.rosy.cheeks label. While there are a few areas that could be slightly better (such as the pocket flaps being sewn on through the lining), I’m overall really pleased with this make and can see it being a staple in my winter wardrobe. As soon as I saw this pattern, I had to make it! This is the @truebias Blair Skirt that I made in a cool wool (lightweight) with a little bit of elastane for a bit of stretch that I purchased from @sotissus_com . I love this fabric, but it’s very hard to get old wrinkles out despite using heat and steam (as you’ll see in the photo of the back of the skirt). Maybe it’s time to try some kind of fabric spray? For the pattern, I modified it in a few ways: I graded the pattern down manually one size from the smallest size to fit my waist, then graded from that size to the size 4 at the hips. I also made a length in between the pattern’s midi and maxi lengths and I’ll be adding a lining soon because I’ll mostly be wearing this skirt with tights, and the fabric sticks to my legs in a very unpleasant way. I made a #blairskirt by @truebias in a leopard linen rayon blend. This project was kind of life-changing for me for two reasons: 1) I finally learned about the full butt adjustment! Just adding width at the hips never gave me the fit I was hoping for, and this made a huge difference. 2) I discovered the magic of machine-stitching buttons. I hate sewing buttons by hand (and they always fall off after a couple of wears), so machine-stitching made it so much quicker and sturdier! This was also a good reminder to check my current measurements before starting a project. The numbers in my head were all an inch or so bigger than my actual measurements, so I ended up having to remove a bunch of fabric from the center front, and it’s still a little loose at the waist. Thankfully, nothing a belt can't solve! Another amazing pattern by @truebias, and I see many more Blair skirts in my future.

This is my second @truebias #blairskirt I made this one out of a wool -poly blend #deadstock from @stonemountainfabric Story time: I didn’t notice the front and back of this fabric had a different warp and weft maybe, hard to explain for someone who doesn’t weave. It basically has a prominent horizontal stripe on the “front” and “vertical” on the back. By the time I noticed I had two of the same front panel. I had to then cut a new front panel and I don’t know what I did, maybe accidentally cut cross grain ?!?, but it was a bit ripplely when I sewed it in with the other panels. I spent hours trying to manipulate the fabric to get the ripples out and wound up with a large divot, that maybe is a compromise. Since this is deadstock and I’m trying to be type B, and live with it. I did use a little interfacing on the inside (light weight fusible), but if anyone has suggestions to make this stiffer I’m all ears. I def think this is my own cutting error because the other side panel and back lay so nicely. I really like experimenting with fabrics that are unconventional for the garment I’m making, but then these issues come up and lots of lessons are learned 🫠 It’s warm but honestly not too warm. I’m a bit of a lizard though. ID: Me on the sidewalk in a plaid brown and black wool skirt with black buttons. It’s ankle length. I’m also wearing a black turtleneck and black Chelsea boots. 🐆 Leopard Blair 🐆 Two of my favourite things - leopard print and the @truebias Blair skirt. This skirt is such a great fit and I love the shape. First up in my catching-up-on-2024-makes series… my most recent finish, a Blair skirt by @truebias! When this pattern first dropped I wasn’t interested at all, but it caught my eye during TB’s Black Friday sale so I decided to give it a try. I have a high success rate with True Bias patterns - with very few exceptions, they are well-drafted, fit true to size, and have great instructions. This skirt was a fun and fairly easy make, and I’m happy with how well it fits in with the rest of my wardrobe. The top in these photos is also me-made - it’s a hacked-back Stella sweater by @madeformermaids. I can’t remember what size this is but I know I got the fabric from @stylemakerfabrics. Fabric: Kaufman 14 wale corduroy from somewhere (?). That gorgeous pocket lining is a long ago remnant from @stitchesseattle. Size: 12 waist, 14 hip Mods: I let out the 14 hip by 1/2” on each side, so 1” total. I should have done a 12 waist and graded to a 16 hip. Live and learn. Mistakes: I put the buttonhole on the top skirt button way off center, and I was on such autopilot that I didn’t even notice until I had already ripped it open! So that button looks weird and causes drag lines, and will look weird forevermore, because I think the only way to fix it would be to replace the entire button placket and I just can’t see myself bothering. My denim skirt is ready and together with the Nan t-shirt, it has become a nice combination. Something I had hoped. And most importantly.. the skirt fits. I have a two size difference between hip width and waist. So it is always necessary to make the pattern fit. That does not always work. Sometimes just too wide or too tight at the waist. I was able to buy the denim locally along with the jersey for the t-shirt. The jeans buttons were not available locally anywhere, so I bought them online at @wawaksewing . Have it sent to an address in Miami (they only deliver within the USA) and from there to Aruba. When @truebias released the Blair Skirt with a sample in orange corduroy, I immediately wanted to sew it with the length I had in my stash! I made the mini view with an added 4” and an extra button. I didn’t have enough buttons in my stash but I found these vintage gold ones for the pockets and the smaller for the front. I look forward to wearing this with tights and boots this fall/winter! Atelier Jupe Este Shirt & True Bias Blair Skirt When @truebias released the #blairskirt I knew I needed to make one! I wanted to use a fabric I had in my stash but wasn’t sure what to use. Then I found this mustard denim from @lafinchfabrics_new years ago. I always loved this fabric but wasn’t set on jeans so the Blair skirt was perfect. I made a size 8 midi length/view B. I loved making this skirt, the directions were amazing and it came together quickly. I also used fun @pittofficial fabric for the lining. What better excuse is there to make a new shirt than a unique color skirt! The @atelierjupe #esteshirt was actually the second shirt I made for this skirt. I ordered 1.5 yards of the Atelier Jupe viscose from @surgefabricshop to make an Este, a pattern I have been wanting to make. I love a shirt but this has a lovely drape & dropped shoulders, that give a nice blousy look with a classic shirt shape. As always Atelier Jupe patterns don’t use a ton of fabric and are straight forward to make. I made a size 36 with long sleeves and collar. Finally getting around to posting pictures of my new corduroy #blairskirt from @truebias. • This pattern was on my radar, but when I saw @sewimpatient corduroy version, it immediately jumped to the top of my list. I had been eyeing this Fig color of 21-Wale Corduroy in my shop for the longest time, so this was the perfect excuse to take some home. • Since I fall two sizes below the pattern, I made the smallest size and took 1/2” out of each side seam. I also moved the darts 1/4” toward the CF and CB so they would hit in the right spot. I made the midi length + 2” for this version and love where it hits. After the first wear, I ended up sewing the button plackets together up to the top two buttons to help it lay nice and flat. • Once again, Kelli has done an excellent job of modernizing a classic silhouette. This was such a fun sew (though it took twice as long to make with our new kitten “helping out). • Top: #fridaybateautop @fridaypatterncompany size XS in the Fawn Ribbed Pointelle from @saltlakesewciety. This stripy skirt is my new favourite thing I made ❤️ I love how the pattern gave me an opportunity to play with the stripes placement, which I had some fun with exploring different options. It's my second Blair Skirt, but this time I changed the pockets, tracing a pinafore I have. This type of pocket is more comfortable for me, even though I also liked the look of the original pockets of the pattern. The fabric was a remnant from my local fabric store Tissu Social. I found out later that it’s a Sevenberry Japanese cotton as I was contemplating to order more of it online, because I did some mistakes while cutting and I had no fabric left. But I ended up working with what I got and frankensteining it together, which worked out fine in the end! But for next time I will keep in mind to check twice and cut once 😅 For this stripy fabric, I should have also done less top stitching than instructed, to not distract from the pattern. I did flat felled seams on the sides but should have gone for french seams to have less top stitching visible. I haven’t been sewing much lately, not because I have t wanted to but I have been lucky enough to do a lot of traveling in the last few months. Over the last few days I have been making up another Blair Skirt from True Bias with some fabric that was given to me by my MIL. , it’s a soft corduroy. I fully lines the skirt and actually made the waistband 2 inches longer than my waist measurement and eased it into the top of the skirt. I figured with a belt I could have the skirt waist at whatever was comfortable for me - either before or after dinner:). I also added an interior elastic ( usually used on kids clothes) that I could cinch up the elastic an inch or so if needed and if I wasn’t wearing a belt. Just something I thought I would give a try. I’m very aware of “ future proofing” my clothes and as they are all well made, I want to be able to give them away and have them fit more than one person. Also , I have found with a button placket and a fitted skirt if the skirt is even slightly too tight over the hips it pulls the button placket off a bit, so I was definitely ware of that and there is about 2 1/2 inches of ease in the hips. This fabric started life as another skirt years ago which all went wrong so got put aside for a long time. I repurposed it for this wearable toile and it’s very wearable! This skirt is everything! I was drawn to the @truebias #truebiasblair because I love the big pockets and the shape of the skirt. I don’t wear a lot of fitted things so I wasn’t sure it would suit me. When I finally tried it on I gasped as somehow it gives me a waist! Love. I made the mini version in a black denim from @fabworksmillshop. The denim has a bit of stretch which makes it more comfortable when sitting. I found the pattern really easy to follow, I didn’t make any modifications, and it was straightforward to make. I used a denim needle and regular thread. It’s a really versatile piece that will go with loads of things. I really want a white top to wear with it (don’t have one as I spill, and can’t find one I like so will have to sew something). It took me over a month to finish this project, but in my defense: it’s two garments! And I started a new job last month AND I’m starting to stress out over my first half marathon next month (I am not as prepared as I initially planned), so I might even say that finishing this at all, is a February miracle ✨ This ribbed fabric has been in my stash since my early sewing days, but it turned out too heavy for my original plan and it wasn’t until recently that I figured out a new plan. Loving my new @truebias #truebiasblair skirt paired in the first photo with my hacked #truebiasroscoe and in the second with a new #truebiasnikko I’d seen various lovely versions of this skirt in all lengths and decided I had to have the pattern. I knew that I wanted to line my Blair so that there’s no chance of it sticking to tights and Kelli has helpfully included how to do that on the true bias blog - it’s super easy to do and I’d definitely recommend it. My outer fabric is a beautiful chocolate coloured corduroy from @merchantandmills and the lining is a Bemberg cupro from a store called Suasion Shop on eBay. The skirt comes in 3 lengths, but of course, you could sew any length you like. I sewed the maxi version and shortened it by 2” as it is very long (I think I would shorten future versions by 4” for an ideal length for me). For reference This pattern is drafted for a height of 5’5” and I’m 5’6”. I sewed the pattern according to my measurements a size 4 at the hips merging to a 2 at the waist and it’s perfect. I managed to cut the skirt out of 1.5m of 140 wide fabric (instead of the suggested 2m) and 1m of lining. I chose not to sew buttonholes down the entire length of the placket as there’s no way you would be able to walk in it if you were to button them all up - consequently I used the buttonhole markings for the knee length skirt rather than the maxi as I prefer the look without the extra buttons/buttonholes. As you would expect from True Bias the instructions are fabulous and there’s also a sew along. 🐆 Leopard Blair 🐆 Two of my favourite things - leopard print and the @truebias Blair skirt. This skirt is such a great fit and I love the shape. There are lots of details that I enjoy sewing like the pockets on the front. The belt loop construction is one of the best I’ve done. Obviously it’s in that @fabricgodmother Ace Animal Print denim. The best bit is that I managed to squeeze this out of a remnant that I had left from my Thea jeans (post incoming). I love using up all the fabric! OMG I actually finished sewing something for myself 🤯🤯!! Knitting has been easier and more convenient for me these days so not much sewing happening. I’m thrilled with this wardrobe staple, the Blair Skirt, from True Bias. As soon as the pattern was released I was smitten with it and knew I wanted to make it as a basic denim skirt that I can travel with in winter. The instructions were great and I learned a new method of attaching a waistband. The metal jean buttons I found on Amazon, although they are at Wawak as well. A great project with techniques I like to do. For anyone wanting some help I did film this as I made it. A tutorial will be up on my YouTube channel , I sew like that, later today. ( that”s for you daughters if you decide you want to sew this up! ❤️).TIP- line the skirt!! After wearing it a couple of times I noted the denim “sticks” to my tights. ✨[AD] True Bias Blair Skirt✨ A while back, I was part of the testing team for the Blair Skirt. I really love the look of a skirt that is fitted over the waist and hips which then goes straight down to the hem. It was released for their autumn collection, but I think it looks great all year round. As part of a paid collaboration for Instagram, I was asked if I could make another version of the True Bias Blair Skirt. I’ve been wearing my tester version on many occasions but I used a gorgeously patterned fabric so I decided to make a neutral version this time. I’ve used a beige denim and added all the optional extras of the Blair Skirt. The skirt comes in three lengths and I can’t look past a Midi Version. I’ve used nine buttons down the front button placket and two buttons for the pockets. There are also button loops and even an included pattern for a matching belt. Unfortunately, my buckle that I’ve ordered from Amazon hasn’t arrived but I’ll be keen to try sewing the belt when it arrives. I’m looking forward to wearing this all year round! It was wonderful to sew this pattern again. I love how sewing allows us to customise the details. One for Mrs Shaw. This make is a special one for me because of the fabric. The wool and lining were both given to me when I started dressmaking by a close family friend, Mrs Shaw. Unfortunately I didn’t ever get round to making anything with them before she passed away last year in her 90s. For that reason I really wanted to make something to wear this winter that had as much attention to detail and care put in to it as she did to all of the personalised knitted jumpers she made me growing up. I spent a few years trying to think of the right garment to make as I wanted it to be something that I would get a lot of wear out of but also that Mrs Shaw would approve of. Last year after I made the @truebias Blair skirt by in denim, I knew that I’d found just the right pattern for the wool. Having made the skirt before I spent a lot of time on this one trying to get a really professional looking finish. I (tried) to pattern match the pockets and pocket flaps, sew the lining in all the way round and ofcourse add a @little.rosy.cheeks label. While there are a few areas that could be slightly better (such as the pocket flaps being sewn on through the lining), I’m overall really pleased with this make and can see it being a staple in my winter wardrobe. Just completed Blair Skirt from True Bias! This was one of Needle Sharp's subscription boxes this Spring, finally found some time to make it! The pattern was very well drafted; the instructions and video sew along were clear and helpful. First time making a bunch of buttonholes at once as well as using the machine to sew on buttons. I haven't filled out my dress form to match me since COVID so things look a little loose on her, I made a straight size 12 midi length version. The @truebias #truebiasblair skirt has been on my list since the day it was released, Kelli has once again captured such a beautiful classic look with modern detailing. However, I had to wait for @blackbirdfabrics to restock this cotton corduroy in brick from the samples of the pattern because it is my favorite color. Based on my measurements, I would have been 6 at waist graded to 12 at hips. I did full bum adjustment per the online walkthrough for one size, and after fitting reduced to a size 8 at hips and through the hem. It fits so beautifully. I also added the optional lining in bemberg cupro from @oakfabrics to make these wearable with tights (I’ve learned my lesson). This is my first time sewing with cord so of course I sewed the button bands upside down at first. I also ended up shorting the maxi length by two inches overall and only doing buttons through the midi length. I was torn between the vies, but fortunately I mapped it out and have just enough left from my original 2m to make a mini version in the future! I love how efficient straight sided pattern pieces are. Buttons are horn picked up from @brooklyngeneralstore

I’m excited to share my first makes of 2025! 🖤 This outfit has been taking shape in my mind for a while and I am so excited to have it realized because it is everything I had hoped for. I am really trying to focus on sewing more pants and skirts because I simply do not have enough bottoms in my closet. The Blair skirt from True Bias is SO GOOD! I am so happy I finally got around to making one. This is the mini version and was an extremely quick sew, especially because I skipped the pockets and button loops. It has beautiful finishing details inside. I know I am going to make many more versions of this. In fact, I already have the next one cut and ready to sew! The animal print lace top is inspired by something I saw online but now cannot for the life of me remember where. In any case, it was also extremely quick to whip up. As soon as I saw this pattern, I had to make it! This is the @truebias Blair Skirt that I made in a cool wool (lightweight) with a little bit of elastane for a bit of stretch that I purchased from @sotissus_com . I love this fabric, but it’s very hard to get old wrinkles out despite using heat and steam (as you’ll see in the photo of the back of the skirt). Maybe it’s time to try some kind of fabric spray? For the pattern, I modified it in a few ways: I graded the pattern down manually one size from the smallest size to fit my waist, then graded from that size to the size 4 at the hips. I also made a length in between the pattern’s midi and maxi lengths and I’ll be adding a lining soon because I’ll mostly be wearing this skirt with tights, and the fabric sticks to my legs in a very unpleasant way. Another location shot wearing my #truebiaspatterns Blair Skirt. I made this to replace a well-loved, well-mended and finally irreparably damaged cargo skirt from Debenhams years ago! This mini version is perfect as an alternative to shorts on holiday. The pockets are made separately with a lining, so it is much easier to match the shape of the curves and the topstitching. I love the inverted pleat detail. This is a stretch cotton, left over from another make and it works well to help avoid gaping between the front buttons. The placket is a wide one which also helps this. I made size 6 which is an inch smaller than my waist measurement, but the stretch allowed me to get away with this. My only alteration was to straighten the hip curve to suit my shape. A perfectly explained pattern with 3 lengths and instructions for a buckle belt if desired. I think the longer lengths will look great in denim or corduroy for autumn/winter. I had plans for everything I bought but of course things changed once I had more time to think! I originally bought this @riflepaperco canvas to make a pair of shorts but decided to make a @truebias Blair mini skirt. I made this pattern before but it was a little big so I reprinted the pattern in a size 6. I made no adjustments & this came together quickly as I remembered. 🌼 Me Made May 2025, day 1 🌼 I have participated in Me Made May many years past, though last year I opted out which was the right decision for me at the time. This challenge can be whatever you want it to be whether you are a beginning sewist or very experienced - make it your own, make it doable for you, and most importantly, keep it fun! I hadn’t decided until this morning if I wanted to participate this year. With getting ready, making lunches for my kids in the mornings plus having to leave the house around 6-7 am for work, it is a real struggle to be presentable, fight with early morning light/weather, AND get decent photos/video. I deeply envy those with more regular work hours 😵‍💫 I already wear me made clothes every day so my plan for this year is just to keep that up and document it along the way, but also to not stress if a rough day or hectic work schedule prevent me from getting photos. This stripy skirt is my new favourite thing I made ❤️ I love how the pattern gave me an opportunity to play with the stripes placement, which I had some fun with exploring different options. It's my second Blair Skirt, but this time I changed the pockets, tracing a pinafore I have. This type of pocket is more comfortable for me, even though I also liked the look of the original pockets of the pattern. The fabric was a remnant from my local fabric store Tissu Social. I found out later that it’s a Sevenberry Japanese cotton as I was contemplating to order more of it online, because I did some mistakes while cutting and I had no fabric left. But I ended up working with what I got and frankensteining it together, which worked out fine in the end! But for next time I will keep in mind to check twice and cut once 😅 For this stripy fabric, I should have also done less top stitching than instructed, to not distract from the pattern. I did flat felled seams on the sides but should have gone for french seams to have less top stitching visible. 🐆 Leopard Blair 🐆 Two of my favourite things - leopard print and the @truebias Blair skirt. This skirt is such a great fit and I love the shape. There are lots of details that I enjoy sewing like the pockets on the front. The belt loop construction is one of the best I’ve done. Obviously it’s in that @fabricgodmother Ace Animal Print denim. The best bit is that I managed to squeeze this out of a remnant that I had left from my Thea jeans (post incoming). I love using up all the fabric! First up in my catching-up-on-2024-makes series… my most recent finish, a Blair skirt by @truebias! When this pattern first dropped I wasn’t interested at all, but it caught my eye during TB’s Black Friday sale so I decided to give it a try. I have a high success rate with True Bias patterns - with very few exceptions, they are well-drafted, fit true to size, and have great instructions. This skirt was a fun and fairly easy make, and I’m happy with how well it fits in with the rest of my wardrobe. The top in these photos is also me-made - it’s a hacked-back Stella sweater by @madeformermaids. I can’t remember what size this is but I know I got the fabric from @stylemakerfabrics. Fabric: Kaufman 14 wale corduroy from somewhere (?). That gorgeous pocket lining is a long ago remnant from @stitchesseattle. Size: 12 waist, 14 hip Mods: I let out the 14 hip by 1/2” on each side, so 1” total. I should have done a 12 waist and graded to a 16 hip. Live and learn. Mistakes: I put the buttonhole on the top skirt button way off center, and I was on such autopilot that I didn’t even notice until I had already ripped it open! So that button looks weird and causes drag lines, and will look weird forevermore, because I think the only way to fix it would be to replace the entire button placket and I just can’t see myself bothering. I haven’t been sewing much lately, not because I have t wanted to but I have been lucky enough to do a lot of traveling in the last few months. Over the last few days I have been making up another Blair Skirt from True Bias with some fabric that was given to me by my MIL. , it’s a soft corduroy. I fully lines the skirt and actually made the waistband 2 inches longer than my waist measurement and eased it into the top of the skirt. I figured with a belt I could have the skirt waist at whatever was comfortable for me - either before or after dinner:). I also added an interior elastic ( usually used on kids clothes) that I could cinch up the elastic an inch or so if needed and if I wasn’t wearing a belt. Just something I thought I would give a try. I’m very aware of “ future proofing” my clothes and as they are all well made, I want to be able to give them away and have them fit more than one person. Also , I have found with a button placket and a fitted skirt if the skirt is even slightly too tight over the hips it pulls the button placket off a bit, so I was definitely ware of that and there is about 2 1/2 inches of ease in the hips. Showing off my latest make -- the Blair Skirt from True Bias. This is my most successful attempt at fitting a skirt so far! Started with a size 8, adding 1/4" to the side seams at the hip. Eliminated the front darts and took a 1/2" wedge from the front side seams to take up the extra fabric from the dart. After basting the skirt to check the fit I took in the side seams a bit to make the hip curve more gradual. I’ve been finding it very hard to take nice pictures of my makes, so I haven’t posted in quite a while, which doesn’t mean I didn’t make anything in that time! But I really want to get back into sharing my sewing adventures, and also get over the reasons I don’t like to take photos of myself right now. I now took this as an opportunity to experiment with Procreate on my new iPad to try to create a more interesting background than just a white wall lol So this is my first try at the Blair Skirt by True Bias, using a stretch 8 wale corduroy in the colour brick that I bought a year or so ago at Les Tissés here in Montreal. Although I really like the fabric, it probably wasn’t the best choice as the pattern called for woven fabrics and this corduroy had a bit of stretch to it, which maybe explains some construction issues I had where in the end the pieces didnt fit together anymore. The button plackets ended up to be different lengths, but it’s not too obvious I think. The other thing that went wrong was the buttons I chose. They were very difficult to install, were constantly falling off again, and they are made to be a bit loose it seems. This and the bit of stretchyness of the fabric probably is the cause of the last few bottom buttons unbuttoning themselves quite often. I may need to sew them closed… The waist is also becoming a bit looser after wearing it for a while, I might need to size down the waist next time. I went for the mini length, but added 1 inch. This skirt is everything! I was drawn to the @truebias #truebiasblair because I love the big pockets and the shape of the skirt. I don’t wear a lot of fitted things so I wasn’t sure it would suit me. When I finally tried it on I gasped as somehow it gives me a waist! Love. I made the mini version in a black denim from @fabworksmillshop. The denim has a bit of stretch which makes it more comfortable when sitting. I found the pattern really easy to follow, I didn’t make any modifications, and it was straightforward to make. I used a denim needle and regular thread. It’s a really versatile piece that will go with loads of things. I really want a white top to wear with it (don’t have one as I spill, and can’t find one I like so will have to sew something). I’m thrilled with this wardrobe staple, the Blair Skirt, from True Bias. As soon as the pattern was released I was smitten with it and knew I wanted to make it as a basic denim skirt that I can travel with in winter. The instructions were great and I learned a new method of attaching a waistband. The metal jean buttons I found on Amazon, although they are at Wawak as well. A great project with techniques I like to do. For anyone wanting some help I did film this as I made it. A tutorial will be up on my YouTube channel , I sew like that, later today. ( that”s for you daughters if you decide you want to sew this up! ❤️).TIP- line the skirt!! After wearing it a couple of times I noted the denim “sticks” to my tights. Next time I would definitely line it. Those front cargo pockets are awesome on a chilly day, btw. OMG I actually finished sewing something for myself 🤯🤯!! Knitting has been easier and more convenient for me these days so not much sewing happening. BUT I wanted to sew the #truebiasblair as soon as it was released and soon after that I went to a fabric swap with @bayareasewists and found the perfect wool fabric with just enough yardage 🧡🧡🧡 I intended to sew this skirt during the Blair skirt sew along with @truebias but that didn’t happen. Better late than never 🤷🏻‍♀️. Atelier Jupe Este Shirt & True Bias Blair Skirt When @truebias released the #blairskirt I knew I needed to make one! I wanted to use a fabric I had in my stash but wasn’t sure what to use. Then I found this mustard denim from @lafinchfabrics_new years ago. I always loved this fabric but wasn’t set on jeans so the Blair skirt was perfect. I made a size 8 midi length/view B. I loved making this skirt, the directions were amazing and it came together quickly. I also used fun @pittofficial fabric for the lining. What better excuse is there to make a new shirt than a unique color skirt! The @atelierjupe #esteshirt was actually the second shirt I made for this skirt. I ordered 1.5 yards of the Atelier Jupe viscose from @surgefabricshop to make an Este, a pattern I have been wanting to make. I love a shirt but this has a lovely drape & dropped shoulders, that give a nice blousy look with a classic shirt shape. As always Atelier Jupe patterns don’t use a ton of fabric and are straight forward to make. I made a size 36 with long sleeves and collar. Loving my new @truebias #truebiasblair skirt paired in the first photo with my hacked #truebiasroscoe and in the second with a new #truebiasnikko I’d seen various lovely versions of this skirt in all lengths and decided I had to have the pattern. I knew that I wanted to line my Blair so that there’s no chance of it sticking to tights and Kelli has helpfully included how to do that on the true bias blog - it’s super easy to do and I’d definitely recommend it. My outer fabric is a beautiful chocolate coloured corduroy from @merchantandmills and the lining is a Bemberg cupro from a store called Suasion Shop on eBay. The skirt comes in 3 lengths, but of course, you could sew any length you like. I sewed the maxi version and shortened it by 2” as it is very long (I think I would shorten future versions by 4” for an ideal length for me). For reference This pattern is drafted for a height of 5’5” and I’m 5’6”. I sewed the pattern according to my measurements a size 4 at the hips merging to a 2 at the waist and it’s perfect. I managed to cut the skirt out of 1.5m of 140 wide fabric (instead of the suggested 2m) and 1m of lining. I chose not to sew buttonholes down the entire length of the placket as there’s no way you would be able to walk in it if you were to button them all up - consequently I used the buttonhole markings for the knee length skirt rather than the maxi as I prefer the look without the extra buttons/buttonholes. As you would expect from True Bias the instructions are fabulous and there’s also a sew along. This is the first skirt I have owned in 15 odd years 🫢 I made both the skirt and jacket at @izzosewstudio recent sewing retreat. I’ve been sewing lots recently but sort of lost my posting mojo on the grid. I thought I’d kick off with one of my Lenne tops. This is the second one I’ve made in a stretch velvet/jersey. It’s super soft and the ruching at the shoulder makes it look like a much more difficult make than it is! I shortened the arms by about 4 inches and also took the sleeves in as the fit was baggy on me. Other than that I didn’t make any mods! From cutting to wearing it was about 1.5 hrs, it would be even quicker with a more stable jersey. This one liked to roll about and slither away!
