Growing up, mom used to sew me many dresses with Peter Pan collars, which possibly explains my love for them. But I’m not very good with collars, which explains why it took me 2.5 years to sew this up since I bought it Dec 2018! Another pattern rescued from my A0 stash. . This is Banksia by @megannielsenpatterns. The top, which is meant to be loose-fitting, was too big for me when sewed up. I wished I could take such style, but I preferred a slightly more fitted look so I slowly basted it and altered it to my liking. I love love love the top! . A prime example of why you should ALWAYS make a muslin! If I HAD made a muslin, I would’ve ditched this infuriating pattern quickly and saved myself a week of annoying alterations! I looked at this pattern all made up in lots of posts, and it looked so cute, but I am fat and many patterns don’t take non-skinny arms, shoulders, and fuller breasts into account and I think this pattern is geared more toward skinny girls. In the end, it looks cute enough…the squirrel fabric is adorable, but the fit is still kind of wonky. I won’t be making this one again. #banksiapattern #mnbanksia #sewover50 #minerva

I made the Megan Nielsen Banksia top. I sewed size XS using an old version of the pattern and omitted the placket. The fabric is a rayon challis from @dhfabricsandco with some leftover rayon batiste for the collar. I also finally cut into my @atelier_to_naniiro_textile 2021 stash - the @kokkafabric Jardin II Cotton Silk - for this blouse. Bought from @nekonekofabric last year, this soft and subtle colourway is very beautiful in life but hard to photograph - I upped the structure feature to bring out the accents of white on the pale grey. The cotton silk substrate is lightweight and has a nice drape which made it perfect for this blouse. Linen is so wrinkly!! But a full length end of the workday shot nonetheless! I feel like doing cartwheels - the joy if not wearing a belt!!! Is so wonderful. #mndawn size 10 graded to a size 6 waist. One day I’ll take a photo before they’re wrinkled.

👗ROBE BANKSIA👗 Connaissez vous la marque de patrons Megan Nielsen ? J'ai réalisé déjà de chez eux la robe Darling Ranges que je porte beaucoup. J'ai ici revisité le top Banksia, que j'ai rallongé pour en faire une robe, et auquel j'ai ajouté un lien coulissant avec un élastique à la taille avec le tuto du blog de @by_sandra_hand La jupe a été gradée jusqu'au repere de hanches mais j'ai allongé légèrement en trapèze. Mon tissu étant très fluide (et assez léger ) jai réalisé une parementure de jupe de 9cm pour ajouter un peu de tenue à la jupe. Le résultat me plaît beaucoup, même si je regrette ma cotonade bleu marine sur le col (trop lourde et rigide par rapport à l'autre tissu). Ceci étant, j'aime beaucoup le rendu global! J'avais lu beaucoup de commentaires sur la hauteur de pinces qui étaient très hautes, j'ai du coup réalisé une toile à la va- vite du dos et du devant mais j'ai gagné du temps, les pinces horizontales tombent à la bonne hauteur sur ma morpho (comme la Darling Ranges, mais sur laquelle j'ai dû faire un FBA). J'aime decidemment beaucoup cette marque. Ça me donne envie de coudre la jupe Veronica (patron gratuit de la marque) avec un haut banksia assorti. #memademay2019 - Day 14 Wearing my jersey #mnbanksia today. I cropped it slightly to go with my high waisted jeans. I think it was approx 3 inches shorter. Love this neckline and want to make a dress version...it's added to my never-ending list of things to make 🙄

Silk Crepe de Chine otherwise know as Silk CDC, this Aztec, southwestern type of print has all the colors of my life in it, so naturally I had to oblige. This top took 1.5 yards, it’s my first pattern from Megan Nielsen- the Banksia Blouse Pattern. I love the versatility of the pattern and how they give you Inspo ideas at the back of the pattern. This was a quick sew, probably about 4-6 hours, with pattern print out, taping, cutting and sewing, and breaks. Obviously this depends on experience but this was not complicated.  I chose not to add sleeves but cut out another 2 bias pieces from the neckline pattern and added them to finish the sleeve openings instead, I also have enough left over pieces to make more bias tape if I choose to do so. I also curved the side seams in to make it a bit more fitted. My placket wasn't a dream, bc I honestly didn't even think about placement, but maybe next time.  I love that this pattern is long already and tells you where to shorten it, my long torso thanks Megan.  So if you are scared to sew silks, besides silk/cottons, this is the next best silk to start with, it doesn’t slide around like a charmeuse or chiffon, it has a bit of a grip (traction) because of the crepe side.  Tell me if you like it!
