Took my new Erin Skirt from @megannielsenpatterns out this morning, it’s made from this beautiful Jersey I got in one of the @sewhayleyjane boxes. Still got 2 meters of it. Life update We are expecting a second child in May. I haven't felt like doing a pregnancy announcement but most of my sewing lately is focused on trying to fill gaps in my maternity wardrobe. All is going well, we are happy and healthy but Instagram is feeling more and more alien to share such private things. But to be honest it is becoming ridiculous to try and take photographs of my makes without showing the bump. So here we go, some maternity sewing for you. As my son was born in August, last time I didn't need any cold weather clothes and mainly wore standard, loose-fitting dresses. This time around I quickly realised that I needed some additional clothes. Supplementing two pairs of second hand maternity jeans, I wanted to focus on skirts and dresses. My plan: - the @truebias #NikkoDress in a grey stretchy wool knit - the @megannielsenpatterns #MNErin skirt in a mint heavy cotton knit - a faux wrap skirt inspired by a Toast piece in an olive wool knit I've already finished all of these and will share some details on them soon. A very easy and quick project, but probably better for a fabric a bit heavier/thicker than the jersey I used. New bump friendly outfit for maternity pics. 36 weeks so getting to the final stretch! (LITERALLY) First off the fabric is an anaconda foil printed stretch velvet from @bluemoonfabrics. Very fun 🐍 I used two @megannielsenpatterns to make separates since I thought I'd get more use out of them. Hacked #mnrowan to be sleeveless. And then of course #mnerin, a very popular maternity skirt pattern. I'm planning to wear it even after pregnancy with some slight modifications. The jean jacket is #seamworkaudrey. I did use two different denim colors so it has some color blocking. Also cropped it. Denim is from @blackbirdfabrics. I used my sewing machine to stitch some hearts and stars on the back panel. And lastly thank you to @autumnnicole_ for the fabulous photos documenting this phase of life 💜👶🤰 #maternitysewing

Pregnancy wardrobe - Part 1 @megannielsenpatterns #MNErin Skirt I feel like there are not a lot of cute pregnancy skirt patterns out there. The Erin skirt however is an exception. I've had it on the radar since it first came out. It's a quick and simple sew. The only challenge here was this heavy cotton knit fabric that had a lot less stretch than recommended. To accommodate that I sized up two sizes and added some width at the centre front and back. Now it fits like a glove, which however means that I won't be able to wear it for much longer. As for the style, it is very figure-hugging, something I love on others, but feel a little bit out of my comfort zone in, so I haven't worn it much. It's probably only a matter of styling though. Maternity sewing; it’s tricky, right? You’ll only need the clothing for a few months, but during that time, it’s hard to feel cute and like yourself wearing a bunch of hand-me-downs that aren’t necessarily your style. Now that I’m in the middle of what’s most likely my last pregnancy, I’m feeling like I missed out a little, so I made up this quick Erin Skirt from #megannielsenpatterns, and I really love it! It’s comfy and pretty versatile made in a very soft modal jersey. Happy news… Baby #2 is on her way! I haven’t been sewing much because I’ve been busy napping, but here are some recent makes. I decided I wanted a maternity skirt for summer, and went with the #mnerin pattern. It was super quick and satisfying to make. I cut the midi length, but being petite (5’0”) ended up chopping off about 8 inches at the bottom anyway. Next time I’ll just cut the “knee length.” Here in a rayon blend from Joann. Also, a nearly-finished #seamworktacara in a solid gold from @stonemountainfabric. I inserted two invisible zippers on the side seams so this will be nursing friendly too. Same patterns, different look! This is my new favourite pattern combo, the #mnErin and the #gilberttop - it's the same patterns as in my last post, but a different vibe because of the fabric choice. The skirt is made from deadstock jersey and the top is make from a thrifted tablecloth. Time flies! I keep meaning to share my #maternitysewing makes and yet my phone tells me it’s been a year since my bump looked like this 🙈. While some of my usual dresses worked for maternity, including some old RTW jersey dresses, these skirts #mnerin and the black top #sewingagnes #sewingmaternityagnes have been my best. I did veer towards fitted clothes as I preferred clothes to hug my bump rather than look like a tent. The Agnes top worked well with my usual narrow upper bust adjustment and I even made it as a dress, which lost its long sleeves on the second pregnancy as the seasons were different. The Erin skirt is so quick and easy. As for the wrap top, I loved the idea of #mnalissa but it just wasn’t practical. In my first pregnancy, I changed into my uniform at work and then once or twice a week, I went swimming after work. This meant wrapping myself up 3 times and unwrapping 3 times. And it wasn’t suitable for antenatal visits. So this time I cut the wrap off and sewed it into a crop top. Not quite my favourite in the end either. All in all, I wore my #maternitysewing clothes so much that they had to go into fabric recycling after Mini He was a few months old. It was nice to not be restricted to RTW and still be me!

Been quiet around here this year as I have been busy growing Baby Jeffreys who is due in October 🩵 I did find some time to make this simple @megannielsenpatterns Erin maternity skirt in a lovely, super stretchy 2x2 rib I picked up in Copenhagen recently. I can’t bring myself to buy maternity clothes when I see the price of even somewhat cheaper stores, so I just keep making them. I figure it’s easier to adjust things I’ve made after the fact than it is to do the same with something store bought. While down in Eugene to say goodbye to the old house Bobby and I took a quick jaunt over to the rose garden. It was the first time Bobby has actually been in town when it was mostly in bloom so it was a lovely little surprise to have it be flourishing. I couldn’t help taking a picture in front of the Fourth of July roses since little one is due on the 5th. Gwen was a week early though so who knows when he’ll actually grace us with his presence. This skirt is such an impractical sewing project but I just couldn’t help myself, sometimes I want to feel a little fancy even if more often than not I just want comfy clothes. I had originally intended for this fabric to be used for flared yoga pants so it had exactly the right type of stretch for this kind of form fitting skirt. The patterns are @megannielsenpatterns Erin Skirt and a @sewliberated Hinterland Dress hacked into a crop top that I made as part of a playsuit last summer. Here is a large portion of why I’ve been so quiet on this space…baby #2 is on its way ❤️ We’ve had some exciting life changes over the past 6 months and I’ve really been leaning into the dedicated family time that comes with it. I would have much rather taken pictures like this in Disney World. Instead I’m home, embracing my shape, impersonating both the big ball I can’t visit and the ball that drops each year. • 2020 did not go according to anyone’s plans. On a completely superficial level, 2020 was the first calendar year I can remember that I did not travel to a Disney park (or travel at all). 2020 was also the year we lost our beloved Riker. Plus, we have continued to live through the same craziness the entire world has been going through. • 2020 also gave me a few really great things. A shorter commute (across the hall), more time to make sure our sweet Riker was comfortable (this honestly probably lengthened his life, too), my pregnancy, and our new little furry son, Miles. • If you have goals and dreams for 2021, that’s wonderful. But also remember that the year starting on January 1 is completely arbitrary - it’s just another day. 1. No, I’m definitely not this pregnant (yet...). But I have popped in a way that I can’t really keep under wraps anymore, so we’re on to body con dresses with ruching already.⁣ including this guy! Seen here at something around 35 weeks first time preg. 2. It’s a mashup of the @megannielsenpatterns Cara top and Erin skirt. Size UP in Erin, she is tiny! Also, I stole the back vent from the @colettpatterns Mabel skirt. Because I’m human and I walk. ⁣ 3. I made this in two colors, both in the “4-way stretch rayon blend ponte” from @emmaonesock . This stuff has held up really well. I wore both dresses a ton, then lent them out to a pregnant friend, and now have them back. Took my new Erin Skirt from @megannielsenpatterns out this morning, it’s made from this beautiful Jersey I got in one of the @sewhayleyjane boxes. Still got 2 meters of it. We have beautiful sunshine and it finally feels like spring. I love this maternity skirt, it’s so comfy and easy to style up or down. I’m seeing lots more of these being made soon. Thanks to the gathering on the side there is enough room to grow but it also looks fine with my smaller belly right now.
