Just finished sewing the #mnminitania culottes for my daughter, and I love that there is plenty of room in the legs for her to kick around. Made a tag so she can tell front from back. Navy cotton bunny fabric from @leeann.textiles at People's Park Complex, which she chose herself. At nearly 4 years old, she now has opinions about what she likes. The shop team was kind enough to follow her around the store and hold the tops of their fabric bolts so they did not fall on her when she hugged them. So happy to have squeezed in some sewing over the Vesak Day long weekend after quite a break. Our child has hit a fabric milestone- one yard of cloth is no longer definitely enough to make her something! She has had this #sevenberry snooker ball cotton in her tiny stash for a little while and in that time she grew so much that a return trip to @leeann.textiles was necessary so that we would have enough for her #mntania culottes (her 3rd pair!) She picked out the print herself and still loves it. It's an odd choice but then she doesn't know what snooker balls are, she just thinks they are colourful and happy. I am not sure why more kids don't wear culottes. They are like a skirt that she can kick around in all day. This pair has pockets too, because little girls should always have pockets. After sewing with a few Sevenberry prints, I really appreciate that they are designed in such a way that the pattern doesn't have a 'right' way up and that the pattern may look random but actually helps you line up the sewing pattern straight 😍 Please visit Lee Ann (02-1110 People's Park Complex) and the other local fabric & sewing businesses in SG if you get a chance, they are wonderful places. |Magic Trick ✨| These #mnminitania culottes are hopefully the solution to two difficulties I’m facing when dressing my youngest child. The first thing is that Lea is the kind of kid who knows exactly what they want and how they want it, no matter the weather or the occasion (We’ve had to battle her against wearing wool tights and boots under 30degrees Celsius🥵 ) She has her own style and likes combining things on her own. I’m not one to discourage creativity in a child BUT I’m also not one who embraces chaos too easily... So Beside removing “out of season” items from her wardrobe, I’ve decided to make clothes for her that would mix and match well while still being colourful and allowing her to be herself : “The Capsule is back✨” The second thing is that Nothing makes my daughter happier than wearing skirts and dresses (especially if they spin « properly ») until she wants to climb trees that is 🌳, and I want her to climb rocks and trees and explore her world. This is where these skorts come in. We’ll see what she thinks of them but I’m calling them magic shorts. Fabric-wise: the first pair is made of cotton probably bought years ago at the stoffenspektakel with the Brussels’s knitting gang when Lea was a baby. The second fabric has a long history. I don’t remember where I bought this huge piece but it’s a slightly sheer coton as well. I made a skirt from it (the diner skirt on the blog) in 2014 that I wore on my first days of pregnancy with Lea, then I used some to line the bunny sleeping bag I made for her when she was a baby (on the blog as well) and now I’ve just made two dresses and a pair of culottes with it hoping to finish it 😅 The last fabric is a cotton « cretonne » bought and cut to make a comfy blanket for Lucas (I had another fabric ready for Lea’s), a gift I wanted to sew for both of them around Lea’s birth but I never had time 🙊 So you see there is a theme 😅 #childrenwardrobe #summerclothes #blackwomensew #blackgirlssew #wocwhosews #sewincolor #qtpocwhosews #pocwhosews #sewqueer #yanoudatoisews

A final hem length check, resulted in a lot of twirling 💃 My daughter has decided that dresses are no longer her thing, so I am banned from sewing any more. Shorts, skirts & skorts however are 👌& have been requested. A viscose by @seeyouatsixfabric called Tiny Flowers was her first choice, Flower Wealth a close second. This fabric is perfect for this pattern, it has a beautiful drape and very easily sewn up with a Microtex sewing needle. If you are looking for a very quick and easy sew for a little person in your world, I highly recommend this pattern. Sewing Helper (aka Snips and Pin Lady) was helping me make her twirly pants (#MNMiniTania culottes, size 6 in a red rayon from Spotlight). / She really really wants to help with sewing but of course there's very little that it's safe for her to do (or that she would be competent at) so I promoted her to Pin Lady and Snips Lady. / As Pin Lady, she passes me a pin from the pincushion when I ask for one and then, when I'm sewing, I give her a pin and she puts it back in the pincushion. ("Here's a pin" / "thank you Sewing Lady" / "thank you Pin Lady"). As Snips Lady, she uses the thread snips to clip the thread from the machine at the end of the seam and then clips the starting thread (both clips are done with me holding the thread and she clips between my thumbs). / It makes sewing take a long time but on the other hand at least Sewing Helper is engaged in the process and not getting up to mischief or getting sad and teary because she wants to help and isn't allowed to. / (Also it's quite possible she's not even related to me because I told her I was adding pockets and she told me that SHE DIDN'T LIKE POCKETS.
