I had a go at making the Megan Nielsen reef camisole and shorts set out of some left over gingham linen. As part of the cami is on the bias it takes quite a lot of fabric and I didn’t quite have enough. Rest is made out of a natural linen curtain I found at a charity shop which I had my first go at natural dyeing with parsley and mint from my garden. Wow, what a rabbit hole natural dyeing is! After some experimenting I ended up with not the green to match the linen but a lovely sage colour anyway and these are planned for pjs. Taking a class is so important for me in restoring my creative satisfaction. I had been saving this 1.5ish yard of fun banana double gauze for something unique. I decided some #isewlation pjs were just the thing. These are the #mnreef camisole and shorts from @megannielsenpatterns . The shorts are View 2 (mid-rise, longer). I have made both views of the shorts and prefer the fit and length of this view. Primary fabric is a double gauze I picked up during a trip to Japan (#tokyobanana ) and I had to use some yellow quilting cotton from my stash as a coordinate because I didn’t have quite enough fabric. A transformation challenge worthy of @britishsewingbee! One pre-loved duvet set transformed into a cute set of summer pyjamas. 🛏️ 💥👕 I absolutely love the modern cut of this pattern. Das Oberteil ist ein Ashton Top von Helen's Closet, mit Schrägband versäubert statt mit Beleg, damit es noch für eine kurze Hose reicht. Die Hose ist die Reef Shorts von Megan Nielsen. I don’t really have much in the way of time to myself these days (an understatement in the extreme), but sometimes I can sneak in a few minutes here and there to work on a sewing project. It’s #slowfashion indeed, and mostly just a way to remind myself that I still exist as a person outside of being a mom, and that eventually I will get back to doing all the other things I enjoy. #sewlalanora @sewlalapatterns hat ihren neuesten schnitt herausgebracht, ein basic t-shirt mit zwei ausschnittvarianten und zwei varianten für den ärmelsaum. ich habe in den letzten jahren heimlich andere näherinnen hier auf insta beneidet, die "ihren" t-shirt-schnitt schon gefunden hatten, den rauf- und runternähen und immer wieder darauf zurückgreifen konnten. da waren schon einige echt schöne schnitte dabei, aber nie der richtige für mich. natürlich hätte ich mir einen schnitt einfach abändern oder einen von meinen kaufshirts abnehmen können, aber irgendwie wollte ich das nicht. ich bin ein entscheidungsschwacher mensch und obwohl ich näh- und anprobenprofi bin (wirklicher profi, ich wurde dafür ausgebildet), wünsche ich mir manchmal, dass einfach jemand anderes mir sagt "so stimmt es". ich wußte schon von annas #sewlalamara, dass sie bei shirts auf die gleichen dinge wert legt wie ich und habe mich deshalb besonders gefreut, auch nora testen zu dürfen, ich war mir sicher, der ist es. und dieser schnitt ist wirklich ganz genau so wie ich ihn mir erhofft hatte: locker sitzend, aber trotzdem tailliert, perfekte schulterbreite, das armloch hat eine angenehme größe und klebt einem nicht direkt unterm arm. wenn man nora etwas schmaler tragen möchte, näht man genau nach maßtabelle, ich bin dem rat der anleitung gefolgt und von einer guten 38 auf 40 hochgegangen, nach den meisten maßtabellen bin ich ohnehin eine 40/42. an der paßform selbst habe ich nichts verändert, nur die ärmel habe ich etwas gekürzt und den rumpf verlängert. und habe jetzt endlich auch "meinen" schnitt gefunden ☺️ danke dafür, liebe anna 🤍 die variante mit rundhalsausschnitt zeige ich euch morgen. mit im bild: @megannielsenpatterns #mnreefshorts #sewlalapatterns #upperbiggerthanfull #tntpattern #sewmystash #elsewhenmillinery #cadetcap #details #memade #slowsewing #slowfashion #sewersgonnasew #sewistsofinstagram #couturiere #sewingforsanity #isewthereforiam #isewlation2023 #isewlated2023 #mobileonly

These are my go-to casual shorts pattern because they are simple but have the fun curved hem detail that makes them just a bit more special. . . . . wie gerne ich das #teiadress von @patternfantastique mag, sieht man ganz gut daran, daß ich gleich noch zwei tops nach diesem schnitt genäht habe. das leinen für dieses hatte ich fast 20 jahre lang in meinem stash, es war nur ein reststück und hat nie so richtig gepaßt. in kombination mit dem rauchigen himbeerrosa der shorts fand ich es schließlich perfekt, dank der belege aus einem anderen stoff, hat es gerade so gereicht. die #mnreefshorts mit dem gerundeten saum sind ebenfalls diesen sommer genäht. endlich, der schnitt lag jahrelang schon in der warteschleife. da mir meine anderen kurzen hosen alle zu klein geworden sind, wurde es auch von denen mehr als ein paar. bei den shorts habe ich die leibhöhe rundum stark gekürzt, damit sie auf der hüfte sitzen, außerdem habe ich die tascheneingriffe vergrößert und auch die taschenbeutel, so sehr es bei dieser knappen länge eben ging. material ist das leinen "binoche" von @merchantandmills. das top habe ich gestern nach dem fotografieren zum ersten mal länger getragen und dabei festgestellt, daß es sich mit den troddeln nach hinten eigentlich richtiger anfühlt. davon gibt es jetzt nur kein bild, nächstes jahr dann 🌞 (und eigentlich hatte ich die troddeln an den hinteren bändchen auch extra weggelassen, wegen rucksack und so...) so. hier hat es jetzt nicht einmal mehr für aktuelle schnappschüsse gereicht, nur noch für eine schnelle suchaktion im handyspeicher und einen netten filter 🤓 einen faux jumpsuit für den sommer hatte ich mir auch schon länger gewünscht (diesen sommer gingen für mich viele nähwünsche in erfüllung 🧡), weil ich zwar großer fan von jumpsuits, aber kein großer fan der zugehörigen toilettensituation bin, besonders nicht im campingurlaub. ich hatte allerdings keine konkrete vorstellung, wie das ding genau aussehen sollte. die nesselteile von #teiadress und #mnreefshorts habe ich dann eher zufällig zur gleichen zeit genäht, außerdem meine leinenstoffe wegen etwas ganz anderem durchsucht und als ich dabei dieses leichte schokoladenbraune leinen in den händen hielt, hat mein kopf dieses projekt quasi von ganz alleine beschlossen, ohne mich groß nach meiner meinung zu fragen (ich hätte es aber gut gefunden, nur fürs protokoll). das leinen ist ungefähr so alt wie das rote des anderen tops und hat ebenfalls nur dank puzzeln und mit belegen aus einem anderen stoff gereicht. was gleichzeitig prima gepaßt hat, denn das sehr feine leinen ist nur aufgrund seiner dunklen farbe einigermaßen blickdicht, belege und taschenbeutel aus dem gleichen stoff hätten sich wohl dunkel abgezeichnet. die leichte indische baumwolle, die ich stattdessen verwendet habe, ähnelt meinem hautton und ist dadurch nicht sichtbar. ich bin extrem zufrieden mit dem ergebnis und auch separat machen sich beide teile ausgesprochen gut zu anderen lieblingsstücken aus meinem kleiderschrank. Once again I was inspired by @alenesews and made a copycat pair of her gorgeous #mnreef shorts from @megannielsenpatterns in the same red viscose linen from @blackbirdfabrics that I made my copycat Burnside Bibs! I made these in early June and planned to photograph them on holiday in the US, but that never happened. So here they are. I believe I made a straight size 4 in the C view with no alterations. I remember that I actually cut the inseam length of the shorts in the longer length, and then had to go back and redo things. So the project ended up being a bit more elaborate than it should have. What I really like about them is that they are very comfortable, and they can be dressed up or worn very casually. She has put her order in for more! What a fun make. Great pattern drafting and instructions. I did a little hack with the top and made it a regular tank. I’m working on the version that is in the pattern now. Will be from the navy linen blend as the shorts. I also copied a RTW tank from some salvaged knit fabric. Now she has a mini capsule wardrobe for summer.

These are from a TNT pattern that I use to make all my house shorts- the Megan Neilsen Reef shorts with a high waist (by adding 2.5” to the rise, and I also like adding an inch to the inseam). Vacation two piece set, round two. I made these #mnreefshorts at the beginning of last summer and was still sitting on a length of this @atelierbrunette fabric. I’ve had a little summer set in mind for a while, but it was that vacation-imposed deadline sewing that got me motivated. I used the @deer_and_doe_patterns #ddmelilot shirt for the top. It’s a very simple construction for a button-down, with cut-on sleeves and no back yoke. I made version B, with a simple band cuff and stand collar. (In this rayon, tho, the stand doesn’t stand up v much, see second-to-last pic.) There are several spots in the directions where you can substitute a serger for their seam treatment and speed things up further. I am a v slow sewist and this only took me about three evening’s worth of spare time. For sizing, I used the 44 — I didn’t want to make adjustments so I picked the size just based on my bust measurement regardless of the cup size drafting. I think that was a @secondroomsewing tip? Worked just fine! For height reference, I’m 5’3”. I took about 1.5” off the bottom back hem, so it wouldn’t dip quite so far down. Cute little palm buttons are also Atelier Brunette, sold when the fabric came out. Still v impressed with myself for remembering I had them and finding them in my sewing area. Please clap 🙃.

#sewlalanora nachdem ich mit meinem probeteil der nora so glücklich war, habe ich direkt noch einen kleinen stapel weitere zugeschnitten, hier seht ihr die beiden mit rundhalsausschnitt. auch bei diesen habe ich nur die länge verändert, die paßform ist original. bei dem gestreiften habe ich den ärmelsaum sehr breit gearbeitet, so dass der ärmel von vorneherein schon etwas kürzer ist und ich ihn außerdem noch schmal umschlagen kann, ohne dass die stoffkante nach außen gerät. beim weißen habe ich den umschlag nur an der innenseite auf der nahtzugabe fixiert, außen am ärmel habe ich es lose gelassen, weil mein sehr zarter stoff sonst früher oder später löcher an der naht bekommen würde. nora ist schnell und einfach genäht (mit vielen streifen dauert es allerdings auch schnell etwas länger 😅) und wird begleitet von einer ausführlichen, illustrierten anleitung. der schnitt ist also anfängertauglich, seit heute gibt es außerdem eine videoanleitung, falls ihr lieber danach arbeitet. aktuell gibt es den schnitt noch mit 20% rabatt zu kaufen 🥳🎉 weil mich schon ein paar leute gefragt haben: die stoffe sind beide jahrealt, aus französischen shops, und nicht mehr erhältlich. aber bei @schoenerstil gibt es gerade einen schönen kleingestreiften in azurblau, vielleicht ist der ja was 🙃 mit im bild sind @elbetextiles #fremantlepants, @megannielsenpatterns #mnreefshorts, kappen von @elsewhenmillinery @sewlalapatterns #sewlalapatterns #upperbiggerthanfull #tntpattern #sewmystash #elsewhenmillinery #cadetcap #skippercap #details #memade #slowsewing #slowfashion #sewersgonnasew #sewistsofinstagram #couturiere #sewingforsanity #isewthereforiam #isewlation2023 #isewlated2023 #mobileonly

A transformation challenge worthy of @britishsewingbee! One pre-loved duvet set transformed into a cute set of summer pyjamas. 🛏️ 💥👕 I absolutely love the modern cut of this pattern. The camisole was very quick and easy, and I'd like to try a contrast facing another time. The construction of the shorts is more involved but I couldn't be more pleased with how they came out. I'm already planning on making another set for yoga. And completely by chance, the bedding and the sewing pattern are both by Australian designers! 🇦🇺 (Left photos - front views. Finished this pair of REEF shorts to match my HOSTA top. This fabric was 60 inches wide and I had enough fabric leftover for the shorts using the recommended yardage for the HOSTA-I did have to piece the waistband but you can’t tell with the elastic waistband.. I love the turnout. Did not finish the hem as I liked the lightness without and I don’t have to worry about raveling.
