Definitely one of my favorite garments I’ve ever made! This is the #mndove blouse lengthened into a dress with pockets added. I did a 1” forward shoulder adjustment and bit of a sloped shoulder adjustment which fixed the big neckline gaping I’d gotten with the pattern as written. But I realized when I made this dress, my second with these alterations, that I forgot to add the 1” onto the back piece so I have actually radically altered things but it works!! I found this great fabric at my neighborhood yard sale, it’s a heavyweight cotton but the drape is very nice. This is the @megannielsenpatterns #mndoveblouse in #bflinen from @blackbirdfabrics ! This pattern was SO well written and creates such a crisp, office-ready garment. My favourite part was the basting stitch-turned-shoulder sleeve fitting technique that I use on other garments now as well. I had to re-do the neckline to perfect the fit of the facing and make a clean v neck, which was very worth the effort. This shirt is ready to go to work! This linen slub from blackbird fabrics was also a treat to work with. I had originally purchased it to make shorts but pivoted when I decided I wanted a nice blouse! This fabric is so versatile and would pair well with a nice dressy blouse like this or casual shorts or shirts too. Two recent makes and an OOTD all in one! I made this top for work but wore it out for lunch today. Which I’m happy about because I’m experimenting with having less of a distinction between work and not work clothes. It meets a lot of my criteria, simple, clean lines, good neckline, sleeve coverage, and a good balance of loose but not baggy. The pattern is the @megannielsenpatterns Dove blouse, curve version. Based on my measurements I was only planning to grade up a size at the hips. But after a couple of toiles I also sized up in the sleeves and bust, so the neckline, shoulders and top 3” of the sleeves are size 16 and the rest is 18. I left out the centre front seam so as not to break up the print, and raised the neckline about 0.75” to make it safe for work. I finished the neckline with bias binding. I also shortened at the hem by about 1” by sewing the hem facing with a bigger seam allowance. Next time I’ll shorten the body 1-2” before cutting it out. The fabric is @ladymcelroyfabrics cotton lawn from @fabricgodmother. I wish it was a bit drapier but I love love love this hydrangea print and love the colours with my silver hair 😍 Pants are my wearable toile of the famous @stylearc Bob pants, in suiting linen from @spotlightstores. I altered the pockets to catch in the waist seam and cropped the legs 4.5cm on the short side (8.5cm on the long side) and levelled off the hem to make it horizontal with the floor. Other than that they’re a straight size 16, my usual Style Arc size. I love these pants and they’re a great addition to my small but growing collection of elastic waist lifesavers. I tried to get a pic showing this outfit seated but did you know that when you sit down it becomes impossible to know what to do with your arms?
