I couldn't wait to share my new bodysuit with you all, so a work toilet selfie it is 🤷🏼‍♀️ After making the Elysian bodysuit a couple of weeks ago, I've been really into them. So I decided to give the @megannielsenpatterns Rowan Bodysuit a go, and I think I love it even more 😍 it just makes me feel really good! I love all the mix and match options. I went with the short sleeves and crew neck in a size 16 (0-20 range). It fits really well with no adjustments. I did have some difficulty attaching the elastic to the leg openings 🫠 but I think i worked out an easier way which I'll be trying next time. I want to make so many more! The fabric is a beautifully soft rib jersey from @sewmesunshine.uk in the moss colourway. I love it so much I'm bought the grape colourway to make another one ASAP! Teamed with an oldie @sewoveritlondon Alba Skirt from the Summer Dreaming ebook in smooth viscose crepe from @fabricgodmother ages ago.

I had grand plans before we went away to sew up a rash vest and shorts for Roo and Lola but didn’t manage to get myself organised enough to get the pattern printed on time. So instead we went shopping to try to find something suitable but as Roo and Lola have sensory needs we couldn’t find something that felt comfortable enough I’d already ordered some fabric from @newcrafthouse in their sale in the hope it would be suitable for swimwear and luckily it arrived the day before we went away! They both were happy with the softness of the fabric. I had to improvise with a pattern as they both wanted something with a crew neckline and long sleeves I ended up using the @megannielsenpatterns Rowan bodysuit pattern but sewed up the crew neck, long sleeve version and for the shorts I used the @sewoveritlondon Huby leggings pattern but traced the pattern off at the thigh to create shorts The top and shorts did exactly what we needed whilst away: provided sun protection, helped Roo feel comfortable when swimming and provided a cover up for their scar too. Both Roo and Lola wore the swimsuits everyday! MARLO and ROWAN I made a cropped #marlosweater out of this gold animal print stretch jacquard from @guthrieghani. I originally made the long length, but much preferred the short so unpicked and shortened it. The @megannielsenpatterns #rowanbodysuit in slinky black jersey from @sewoveritlondon is my 3rd go at the rowan. I added 2” at the shoulders for broad shoulders and 5/8” length in the body. It fits perfect 👌🏼 I like the bodysuit as it doesn’t untuck, looks sleek with trousers and works well under dresses. This lovely corduroy has sat in my cupboard for two years waiting for just the right pattern. And then Lauren (@elbe_textiles ) released the Steele Pinafore and I knew it was meant to be 😍 For this pinafore, I sized down two sizes, cutting out size A to get a more fitted look. The only modifications I made were following @bibbity_bobbity_buttons instructions for adding a facing to the skirt openings, and shortening the skirt by 10 cm. This pattern is magic - I love how the princess seams on the bodice flow into the pocket seams on the skirt, the bow on the back, and of course the giant pockets themselves. I've had the @chalkandnotch Evelyn Skirt pattern for a while but went unmade. And I've had this beautiful Loseta Tile @fabricgodmother crepe sat in my stash for ages (it came in the @sewhayleyjane Luxury box from July 2020!). Thanks to @stash_hub I realised what a great pairing they would be... and I was right 😍 It's just a really great pattern. Came together really quickly in just a few hours. I've been hoarding this beautiful @riflepaperco canvas for AGES but I finally decided to make something with it and I decided on the @ninaleelondon Camden Pinafore ❤️ Loads of good stuff to say about this pattern that it will be a great T&T go-to. The perfect pairing with a precious fabric! Unfortunately I didn't have quite enough to get the waistband out so I've used some black denim from my stash which I actually now love the contrast. Fabric is from @sistermintaka and I've teamed it with my @megannielsenpatterns Rowan Bodysuit.

I wore my #mnrowan bodysuit on a family outing to the @melbourne_zoo today and asked my husband to take a pic of me with the animals because I feel like this outfit is giving serious safari-style vibes, no? While I really do love tackling more complex sewing projects, I have a real hole in my wardrobe and that hole needs to be filled with basics. The Rowan tee/bodysuit is SO that. I want to buy like, 5 different colours of rib knit and make a heap of neutrals because it’s such a quick sew and a great pattern. I made this one out of a beautifully soft Reformation deadstock rib from @wearethefabricstore, which I wish they had in every colour including neon coral (ok yea that’s not really a ‘basic’ but I like neon 🤷‍♀️) I graded the pattern as follows: Bust: size 14 Waist: between 16/18 (halfway) Hip & placket: size 16 I am so stoked with the fit, which is probably helped by the stretchiness and good recovery in the fabric. I won’t change a thing for the next time I make it. I also found it funny to do the placket because I already had heaps of snaps from sewing for my kids when they were babies! So felt hilarious using them on a onesie for me instead 🐥 Now, my question for my fellow Aussie sewists: where’s the best place to get good quality rib knit that doesn’t have nylon or that kinda poly feel? Any recommendations?

Loving the combination of the dress and the turtleneck. . The dress itself I made already in summer,but it didn't get much wear. I loved the dress on others but mine just didn't turn out that well. For me the instructions were not that straight forward. The deep V in the back doesn't have a nice finish, and I wasn't able to figure out how I can fix it. . I don't know how others did it, seeing that there is very little honest report on how good patterns and instructions really are and how well the finished garments fall and fit. . Slip dress with a twist 💙🌴 I love wearing a slip dress in the summer, and they’re so versatile to wear right now betwixt seasons as they layer so easily. This is the Teia dress from @patternfantastique. I was really drawn to the shape silhouette - high side splits, V-neck and tie straps. The shaping is really gorgeous too with the double sloped bust darts and the perfect amount of ease for a soft and flowy dress without feeling swamped in fabric. It was the perfect thing to make with the gorgeous viscose in this month’s @sewhayleyjane classic box. I fell in love with those beautiful blues and grungy greens so wanted a pattern that really let the fabric do the talking! I really love Cotton/Spandex ribbing for a turtleneck. This is a bodysuit, #mnrowan from @megannielsenpatterns and fabric is from @stylemakerfabrics . It goes with my new boiled wool vest and plaid cropped jacket. I made a huge goof, though. I taped the front top to the back bottoms for the bodysuit pattern. Arrggghh. This is the second big mistake I’ve made in only two projects…😡 On this project, I re-sewed the collar so the collar seam would not be in the front. If you look closely, you can tell the collar is too high in the front and too low in the back. But, it’s not very noticeable so it is very wearable. In fact, I’ve already been wearing it a lot. If you make this, be sure to use heavy duty snaps. I used large sew-in snaps, at first, and they kept popping apart. Heavy duty snaps that you install with pliers work well. In fact, a single one of these snaps would be enough to hold the bodysuit together. Details: Fabric: Cotton/Spandex ribbing from #stylemakerfabrics (SKU 17696), color=mustard, weight=8oz/sq yd, over 100% stretch in the width and about 40% in length. The @tillybuttons Pearl cardigan is such a fab pattern! Easy to make and easy to wear, what more do you want! 😍 I've made this before, but it's a bit big for me now, so I set about making some more. I made the size 6, but I could probably go for a 5 for my next one. This is the long, straight sleeve version. The whole thing was sewn with a straight stitch and maraflex thread which makes it even easier! Wear has maraflex thread been all my life! The fabric is super snuggly viscose soft knit in light green marl from @sewmesunshine.uk. It is absolutely gorgeous quality and feels soooooo nice on my skin. The colour is lovely and subtle, so it will go with so many things in my wardrobe. Worn with my moss green ribbed @megannielsenpatterns Rowan Bodysuit also in fabric from @sewmesunshine.uk 💚

I made another #mnrowan bodysuit using some yellow ribbed jersey. This time I cut a size 6 (graded the waist to a 10) and chose the V-neck option. I used some leftover scraps (from a refashioned shirt) for the facing and 3 sew on snaps. Not that I'm going to wear a long-sleeved bodysuit anytime soon (it's still way too hot 🥵😄), but I'm sure it will make a great staple for autumn/winter. Finally posting about this make. I have a feeling it will be a MVP in my wardrobe in the colder months. It is perfect for layering with the low armscye, but also because it is reasonably fitted around the bust, it doesn’t swamp my figure. Since I am 5’2” I chose to shorten by 6 inches. And since my fabric is quite heavy, I shortened from the hem, effectively reducing the width. I used my front and back pieces to draft the facings for the hem. Really love the result. It would’ve been waaaay to voluminous in this fabric if I’d kept the width as per the pattern. My first make of the year (2022 has been quite a rollercoaster so far and most of the time I don't feel like sewing at all): the #peppermintmiltonpinafore , a free pattern by @peppermintmagazine . This pattern was on my radar since it came out last year. I liked it but I knew that I wasn't gonna wear it as a summer dress. I don't like wearing anything tight when it's hot, so combining it with a t-shirt/top under the pinafore was no option and it's just too revealing sans top (at least for my liking). Then the idea was born to make a winter version and pair it with a turtleneck. When we moved back to Austria two years ago, my mum gave me her old Ikea curtains (6! metres). I only needed a little bit so I still had a lot of fabric left for other projects (I also made a button up mini skirt some time ago). Even though I love the look, it wasn't the best choice for this pattern, as it is very unforgiving. It has zero stretch and you can see every single stitch. I had to un pick the darts and even after using a lot of steam the stitches are still visible. I made a couple of changes: I don't like buttons in the back because I have to sit a lot and it just isn't comfortable. So I got rid off it in favour of a zipper. After much consideration I removed the pockets - I know... WHY?!?! Well, it was just too bulky and no matter what I did, it didn't help with the gaping pockets. This was a bit of a let down because pockets make everything better, right? I was in for another surprise once I tried it on after I installed the waistband. It was too tight and the zipper wouldn't go all the way up. I was perplexed because I graded up at the waist before cutting the fabric. I tweaked the side seams to accommodate my flat hip curve and maybe I wasn't paying any attention and accidentally made it too tight 🤷. Of course by then the sides seams were already trimmed and finished, so the only option was to the let out the darts as much as possible. Unfortunately, this cause the side seams to move toward the front. The pinafore is still too tight but at least now I can fasten the zipper and keep everything in place with a hidden hook and bar. I’m gonna start a new trend… dress up like your furniture 😂. I didn’t realise that I was twinning with my newly painted cabinet until I saw the photos 😬. A couple of weeks ago, I saw a cute button front mini dress in denim and I was wondering how easy it would be to hack the #spkeatonvest into such a dress. Turns out it’s quite easy :)! Basically, I didn’t change a lot except for lengthening the pattern, removing the midsection (including the inseam pockets), and adding flap pockets to the front. As I want to pair it with turtlenecks, jumpers or any other chunky knit wear, I decided to keep the ease of the original pattern. For a more fitted look, I would definitely take in the waist. I added back ties so I can change the fit if necessary (swipe to the second photo). I lined the whole dress because 1. The cord fabric is very thin (215g/m²) and 2. I didn’t want the dress to ride up my legs when wearing tights (nothing more annoying than constantly pulling down your skirt/dress). Due to the fabric being so lightweight, I didn’t use denim buttons but opted for snaps (thanks for voting!). A word of warning: I do like the look of the snaps a lot, but every time I bend down the lowest button just pops open 🤦🏼‍♀️. More detailed photos will follow soon. I used the @megannielsenpatterns #RowanTee for this version of my @blackbirdfabrics retro stripe tee. I sized up two sizes from my measurements, but since it’s a bodysuit pattern, it’s still quite fitted! But I feel like the real star here are these pants. This is my first proper fitted trouser pattern and there is so much to love, like the high waist and the double front pleats. I graded between a 38 in the waist and a 36 in the hips, and I’m pleasantly surprised by how good the fit is with no other adjustments! You can see in the back that I have a little fabric wrinkle under the waistband that I believe is from the back crotch being a hair too long for me, and next time I think I’ll add another inch of length to the legs and widen them a bit towards the hem, but overall an EXTREMELY comfortable and good fit. I made this with pretty cheap fabric from a local shop, so it doesn’t have a great drape, which I think the pants need, so will keep that in mind when I make these for real. Overall this is a very detailed pattern, but I will say I had a handful of frustrating moments of pattern reading confusion. I always got there after a bit and after consulting future steps/diagrams, and some steps were super clear (excellent welt pocket instructions!!), but a couple felt like they were missing little details (I oddly found the front pocket construction most confusing). If this space is a place for me to record my sewing adventures it would only be fair then to post about makes that are complete fails. N, the older child has been asking for T-shirts for a while and I have been avoiding because something about sewing with knits still feels me with a fair bit of trepidation. Still, I want to make a serious go at it this year and together we agreed on a pattern that she liked: the fairly simple #mnrowan tee (view A). I wanted to do colour blocking, as I was unwilling to cut the very small stash I have of “nice” knit fabric. So I put two of my favourite remnants together with the hope that this would work. Well, it didn’t! This is the smallest size (which is what her measurements suited) and it doesn’t fit her. Not only that, it doesn’t fit the eight year old either (as you can see from the photo). So perhaps I need to find a six year old somewhere? The problem here is that I did not choose the right kind of knit. This pattern has negative ease and so while the finished measurements on the shirt are fine (and according to to the pattern), I really should have been paying more attention to the stretch percentage. Ok so lesson learnt. Hopefully! I would like to make this again (probably only deepening the neck a bit) as this is a close fit for our summers) and with the right fabric. This is the Megan Nielsen Rowan t-shirt hacked with a half circle skirt peblum. First post for #sewwipchallenge 🥳🥳 here is my collection of WIPS (Works in Progress) first photo from top left to right: 2 Megan Nielsen Rowan tees that I recently made, completely finished but the fabric has a little less stretch so I don’t like the high neck! So I need to cut out a scoop neck and re cut a neck band, next are 2 Ikatee kids Paris tops for my littelest guy to match a couple shorts I recently made for him 😎, then a pair of Patterns for Pirates pajama shorts for my daughter- just in need of elastic 🙄. Into the bottom left to right: my very first French navy Stellen tee- awaiting hems on the sleeves, Deliah Creates kick pleat skirt that I modified to have a button placket but added a little too much ease at the waistband- side seams already have the seams picked out- literally have to sew like 3 inches to complete this, then last in this pile is a ready to wear tunic that I hemmed into a shirt years ago but don’t wear because it’s still too long just need to cut it off and throw a hem on! The bin is filled with everything from fully cut out projects just needing to be sewn up to small alteration projects to make something wearable! We’ll get there! I’m going to go about this a little different than Lindsey at Inside The Hem; I’m going to start with my first batch of projects that you see in photo 1 and then use her number game for the items in the bin! Have you ever felt each individual minute of the day before? Welcome to my week… We are back in the land of short daylight hours, and had it not been for a housemate contracting covid, my ability to capture my latest make would have been nigh on impossible. Back to the days of trudging home from work during sunset but not too mad about having to work from home this week. My #MeMadeMay2022 rotation has mainly consisted of my recent pink head-to-toe sweatshirting ensemble, so much so that I had to force myself to put on something different for a few hours, and this was the end result! I now have Avril Lavigne’s “Sk8er Boi” on constant loop in my head, which is not helpful as I try to develop an emergency plan training module that won’t put people to sleep. Maybe I could overlay some Avril Lavigne tracks to complement my monotone scripted drawl… thoughts? Anywho, enjoy my latest 90s inspired “ugly tee”, with sleeve stripes going the wrong way (second time I’ve done this… slow learner? Yup.) in a cotton rib from @spotlightstores. Pattern is the #mnrowantee which I could have gotten away with making in a size smaller. Anywho. It took all of about 30 minutes due to the assistance of the overlocker, unlike the pants which are a 2020 make that took me freaking hours due to my moment of madness to bind allllll the seams. I’ve been on annual leave this week, and self-isolating for the past 3 days, because I’m getting 3 wisdom teeth out under general anesthesia tomorrow 🤞🏽 so I’ve been sewing and made a whole outfit!! And I decided to put on some makeup, get @tiago_ferreira_uk to take photos and pretend to be a model 😂 • This fabric is vintage cotton crepe and was gifted by some very good friends. They probably imagined this would become a formal-ish dress, but that’s not me 😅 the colour is so amazing though 😍 • I wanted to make tapered #mnflintpants for some long, so I just mashed it with the #mnopalpants.
