🪡 MATILDA DRESS 🧵 This pattern was released by @megannielsenpatterns waaaaaay back in 2017, but a classic shirtdress never goes out of style! I wanted a bit more of a sewing challenge recently, and I already had this pattern from years ago but had never gotten around to making it . I went with the sizing based on finished garment measurements for this one instead of recommended size measurements; I wanted the top to be fitted based on the Insta versions I liked. This put me at a size 6 top graded to a 10 at the waist and skirt which fits exactly the way I envisioned. I bought a couple of striped cotton remnants from the most excellent @wovenstoriestextiles which was perfect to sew with, and it’s so soft and cool to wear. Thoughts on the pattern: Yes there is a lot of pattern pieces involved, but don’t let that daunt you! The instructions are extremely clear and well written; there are a lot of steps but it’s not a difficult sew! The hardest part was arguing with my machine when trying to make the buttonholes 😆 As mentioned, it’s also a great pattern to use up remnants, and to mix and match fabrics. The small pattern pieces lend themselves to colour blocking or using contrasting fabric if you wanted to mix it up a bit! I really dig this classic dress, its modern but definitely has a retro feel! 17 hours to make a dress 👗 Another beautiful Matilda dress in @libertyfabrics ! I love this material- it’s vibrancy and it’s ease of working with. It makes such beautiful garments that I’m sure will get worn out often and loved very much! Just what I want for my creations! How perfectly sunny is this dress? Another order for an awesome repeat client. Thank you! ☀️ . As I try to take my craft full time, I’ve had to be more precise in my methods, tracking how much time it takes to do everything in my projects. It can be hard to predict, but I need to take my best estimate- especially when I have to calculate how much to charge in order to keep my business sustainable. As I went, I wanted to record the steps to see if it was worth documenting to share. Some crafters might love watching this, for others, a minute is too long to watch a 17 hour process condensed down in to a fraction of that. But I hope you enjoy it nonetheless. My most recently made garment is the #mnmatildadress #mnmatilda made in a tencel/cotton blend chambray from #fabricmartfabrics I trace a size 16 blouse of the curve pattern & should have grade to the 18 at waist but forgot, although I did trace a 18 at waist to 20 at hips all the way to hemline for the skirt. Although I did do a 1” FBA, I still came up short at waistline when I was attaching blouse to waistband. Did some REALLY creative things to fit the two parts which affected the circumference, therefore to make up the shortfall, I stitched a 3/8” seam from 5/8” from top of button band in order to made sure the collar stand would fit. My measurements are: HB 38.5”; B 44.5”; W 38”; H 52.5”. I like the fit overall, but I don’t think I will do french seam on princess seams again because I was unable to clip into the curves & the seams are not lying as flat as they should, which seem to cause some drag lines. I was a tester for this pattern, and it took me a while to make this version because I couldn’t decide if to do in a plain or print fabric (test version was in a print). I plan to make another with sleeves for the Fall.

First class of the fall 2021 semester is in the books! I'm rocking my new back to school make, the #mnmatilda in the newly expanded size! I've had this fabric picked out for this dress for 5 years and I'm so thrilled that I've finally been able to make the dress. I made it in an 20 graded to an 18 at the shoulders. I'm so glad I didn't have to do this grading on the pattern on my own. The non curvy pattern goes to a sz 20, and the curve goes up to 58" hip. Thanks @megannielsenpatterns !! I took some time to plan for the year ahead and I’m hoping I can complete all these projects in 2023. My second week of #memademay Day 5: @fridaypatterncompany #sagebrushtop in a fun animal Liberty print. I’ve also used the leftovers of this print as a bag lining! Day 6: @tessutifabrics #tessutibrigitte Breton top in a nice stripe I bought at the Knitting and Stitching Show in London last year. This is the third time I made this pattern, and my first project using my serger! I finished this top in April, and it kick-started my sewing again. Day 7: @ensemble.patterns #grecotee I have two of these (you’ve already seen the other) and they are the perfect slouchy comfy tee! I finished this one years ago. And I made a Brigitte out of the leftovers 😂 Day 8: @megannielsenpatterns #mnmatilda that I shortened into a shirt. I did this to test the grading I did between sizes from bust to waist. I made the skirt pieces 6” long, but wish I’d given myself an extra inch or two. Day 9: the Matilda dress I made after the test shirt! Fabric is a block print my 2023 India trip. And I am so proud of my pattern matching on the skirt pockets! Day 10: it was suddenly warm, so I pulled out this @sewoverit #soialbaskirt I made using deadstock fabric from @blackbirdfabrics many years ago

I decided to wear my new dress today for nothing in particular … grocery shopping and a rehearsal. But if you’re always waiting for an occasion then you’ll never wear the dress! Anyway, this is the @megannielsenpatterns Matilda dress. I bought it the day it came out and it took me this long to make it 😅 I already have a second one planned though! I made a size 6 bodice graded to a 10 waist and hips and I think it worked perfectly. Perhaps I could shorten the bodice only a tiny amount next time. I love it when you can look at the measurements, adjust a pattern and then it *just works*. No toiling required. I even cut some pieces wrong and it still worked 😆 As a general rule, I do way more buttons than the pattern ever says if it’s somewhat fitted to avoid button gape as much as possible! So it's the final project for #shirtwaistseptember hosted by @sewrena_ and @ashleymainmakes The dress is the #mnmatilda by @megannielsenpatterns It's made of a sheet from TJ Maxx and I think it looks really cute! I braved my fear of buttonholes and while I won't be making a dress with quite this many buttons any time soon I've gotten much more used to them now. This was the first pattern I've made from this company and I definitely recommend them. The instructions were really clear. This was definitely more complicated and had more steps than what I'm used to but my husband said it resulted in a dress that looked like it could be from a store and wasn't obviously homemade. Alexander McQueen inspired dress! 🌹 This stunning Italian linen #designerdeadstock fabric from @selvedgeandbolts has been living in my stash waiting to be transformed. I wanted to make a replica of beautiful, romantic dress from Alexander McQueen (swipe to see the inspiration) in time for some of the insta pattern challenges but some big life stuff got in the way! Better late than never! I hunted for a pattern with the right sleeve cuffs and found the @megannielsenpatterns Matilda which was almost perfect except that I wanted a full skirt. So I worked with my patient, pattern drafting wizard of a husband to draft a full pleated skirt and hidden placket. The fabric is definitely the start of the show. It’s luxurious and worth every penny. The dress came together perfectly, the instructions for the #mnmatilda are spot on. The collar and yoke construction is one of the best I’ve ever seen and the princess seams means it fits my bust perfectly. I interfaced the sleeve cuffs to give it more structure The circle skirt dropped a lot after being hung overnight which is normal when you cut on the bias. And because I’m obsessed with details I had the beautiful belt made by a skilled craftsperson from @hautecuir on Etsy. It’s very similar to the one sold by the designer and super high quality but it’s plus size friendly and a fraction of the cost! #memademay24 & #seatedmakeschallenge2024 8 May Megan Nielsen Matilda Dress. I remember what a marathon sew this dress was and I had to put it aside for a while. Luckily, I got over that but I still see a few things that I would have liked to have done better. I remember the first wash was when the collar split open and I had to sew that up again. There were a lot of learning moments with this dress even afterwards. My main lesson was to choose my fabric more carefully. I chose it because it felt soft and I love the colour but really, this dress suits a lightweight cotton and not something that’s so thick and such a loose weave. All the details for this are on my blog emsewhappy.com so check that out if you want the details. Size: Made the Size 12. My measurements 38B:33W:40H (Hips go up to 48”). I really should have graded between the 12 and 14 because of my waist. I do wonder if I should cross over to the size 14 in the curve range but unfortunately you have to buy that pattern again separately. It’s quite a fitted bodice. Fabric: Medium weight cotton. #matildadress lengthened and made it a grandad collar, made the seam allowances as per the pattern which for the bodice fits better, but wish when I'd extended the length I'd kept the angle... Instead I kept the circumference of the bottom the same. I love the daisy buttons. My buttonhole stitch was playing nice, but I accidentally added one too many🤣 so that one I just didn't sew the button, same with the collar. Bit see thru so defo one for holidays.... inspo was Vic Beckham a few years ago.... I wanted to do some sewing today, but just couldn't settle into a new project. So ... I tackled four makes in the mending pile! The hardest of the four was definitely changing the strap elastic on this otherwise great bra, but even that took less than twenty minutes. 🇬🇧 After experimenting with pattern drafting lately, I needed something a bit more straightforward. I love my @megannielsenpatterns Matilda, so I decided to make another. The many pattern pieces are worth the result and It’s a lot of fun to sew too 🤩. I made this one in a remnant of @atelierbrunette #NativeNight cotton and used their logo from the salvage as a label along with my own and I love the result. I topstitched everything with pink thread and used that for buttonholes too to make the pink in the fabric really pop. … 🇨🇿 Poslední dobou hodně experimentuju s vlastními střihy a modelacemi, tak jsem si potřebovala dát nějaký trochu přímočařejší projekt. My latest #mnmatilda #mnmatildadress #mnmatildacurve from #mnpatterns in cotton poplin from #fabricmartfabrics. This is my third one & I do have plans to make another one before summer is over. I didn't use the sleeve band & used bias binding to finish the armholes, and I used snaps instead of buttons. I forgot to make certain adjustments on the pattern pieces before cutting out this one. Therefore, I had to do those after the dress was completed; I made sure I put those adjustments on the pattern pieces. A Cleveland outing-“The Archive” is a beautiful exhibit at Cleveland Public Library. I always love Edgewater Park. My new summer dress is Megan Nielson’s Matilda. I put bias binding on the arm scythes instead of the cap sleeve and fiddled with the fit around the waist. The fabric was a gift from my sister and daughter who saw it at a crafting thrift store and thought of me. Back in January when I was figuring out my safari wardrobe, I made the Matilda dress by @megannielsenpatterns. I was obsessed with the military green version that the website model wears and so tried to recreate it using a khaki slubbed cotton from @spotlightstores. I went for size 26 with no pattern adjustments. Initially, I really enjoyed sewing this. The cotton was so easy to handle and although all the topstitching took ages it was as neat as a pin. And then I got to the buttonhole stage… I wanted to use these heavy duty Birch brass press studs instead of buttons but I absolutely mangled both the fabric and the snap in the process of hammering them in. So I pivoted to buttons, and while opening the last buttonhole I somehow managed to bypass the pin stopper and kept on seam ripping right up the placket. Cool. I did some very bad visible mending and made my peace with it. Finally I tried it on and… I kinda hated it. I’m not used to wearing collared garments and I felt really double-chinny. The skirt was a couple inches longer than I typically like, and since it has grown on sleeves from the side you can see my bra through the armhole. Unbuttoning it helped a little and had the added benefit of concealing the mended rip. Sadly I haven’t worn it at all. Every now and then I try it on to see if my feelings about it have magically changed, but even styling it as best I could today I’m still not a huge fan of how it looks on me. It’s annoying, because I love the aesthetics of a shirtdress and have a bunch of shirtdress patterns I want to try and this is putting me off them. The chicken dress is finished and Captain Adventure and her flock couldn’t be more excited! Tried to get a pic holding the chickens, but none of us looked good enough for a public share in those pics. Alas! I took the time to make a muslin and learned some things about the #mnmatilda dress. I often skip the toile step, but this dress has a fairly structured bodice, so I wanted to make sure before cutting into my cute chicken fabric! Yesterday I wore a @megannielsenpatterns Matilda dress that I made four years ago. It’s been a while since I wore this dress, but I really enjoyed it - the swishy skirt and button up front are firm favourite features for me. It actually worked! I added a tiny little hook to the inside and carefully hand stitched it so that the stitches only perforated the inside layers of the placket. And it works perfectly. I never adjusted the placket one single time for these photos. There’s a close-up of the simple hook that I used at the end. Yay! Another fabric I've had forever... Actually bought for going to Costa Rica with last year and made 3 bucket hats with it.... I made this as a toile for a full length one out of shirt fabric, and had lots of complements about it🤣.. And a request to make my sister one the same😱 I used #libertyfabric that I've had forever got the collar stand, underneath of the collar, inside of the waistband and the facing, I didn't have enough to use toucans. And chose to hem it with bias binding. Button holes the usual!! Had them amazingly even, then realised the middle one in the waistband wasn't in the middle🤣 fabric so busy the multiple attempts later is hidden🤣🤣 @poundfabrics, couldn't work out how to review on your site! Cutting out my pattern pieces for my #mnmatilda for #shirtwaistseptember It took the whole flat sheet, the pillowcase, and then I cut one piece out of the fitted sheet (not pictured). This takes a lot more fabric than my usual makes, plus since it was directional it wasn't the most efficient layout. Now I just have to take a deep breath and start sewing!

Megan Nielsen Matilda Sometimes when I have more intricate makes or patterns that require more thought I like to sew a pallet cleanser after. And for me a pallet cleanser is a shirt dress. While this sounds crazy there is something calming for me working through all the steps and crisp finishes. After working on my sew recreate the looks which took lots of thought planning and hoping for the best I needed a tried and true pattern- #mnmatilda. I sewed this @megannielsenpatterns Matilda dress using cotton sateen from @fabricgodmother. I made a size 6 with sleeve bands and no alterations. The only change I make for this pattern is to line the pockets, which I find gets a cleaner finish then pressing the round corners. I am always so happy wearing a Matilda dress, just the right amount of tailoring and comfort. I know this won’t be my last Matilda. This dress has been living rent free in my head for the last 2 years. The fabric has been in my stash 10 years, long enough to apply for permanent residency. Thanks to the distraction reduction of #lastsewiststanding2024 some of these long planned stash projects will finally see the light. I like the vintage/vaguely rockabilly style of the #mnmatildadress and I thought it would be the ideal match for this tattoo fabric from #alexanderhenryfabric. I used plain green gaberdine to frame the print at the edges and yoke. It's still a lot to look at, but with calming solids to interrupt the busyness. I fussy cut the pieces to get print details where I wanted them, like the matching skull sleeves and pattern matched pockets. I french seamed the whole thing ( including the bloody armholes, not fun 😂) for that extra luxe touch. If this fabric waited a decade to see the light it deserves the best 😀 Thanks to everyone that voted on my stories - the purple buttons won by a country mile 🏃 It's testament to how much I love the #mnmatilda that I put up with making so many bloody buttonholes. This dress has been a long in the making, in every sense. I've had the pattern 18 months and stalked the hashtag even longer. I'm delighted to have finally made it but it has been a struggle quest. I didn't toile. I really should have. The waist as drafted was a good 2" south of my natural waist which threw the fit off into unwearable territory. I wasn't going to recut and remake the whole bodice so instead I just wrangled the waistband to attach 2" higher up. It was not easy, and the inside is not pretty, but it did work. This was my first attempt at a collar with a collar stand and it's well wonky but I don't think it's too noticeable so I left it. Finally, though this corduroy was a great choice for 95% of the dress it was a nightmare for all the spots that needed buttonholes.... Which was many many spots.... There is no button on the collar stand because my machine was not having it. I increased the recommended button spacing to have fewer to sew and that was ok except for on the belly where it gaped. So I added an extra "belly button" 🤣 which fixed that. I made a 10/12/14 at B/W/H for my measurements of 36/30/42 and once the bodice was shortened the fit is spot on. This fabric is gorgeous and was #gifted for review by the #MinervaBrandAmbassador programme so didn't break my no-buy #lastsewiststanding2024 challenge. It's a cotton stretch 16-wale cord in a shade called "peacock". It's super soft and despite the stretch factor it was very well behaved to sew. I would definitely make more items from this corduroy range but I'd think carefully if they involved buttons... I have another Matilda planned, using an incredible fabric that's been in my stash almost as long as the pattern. I was lucky to receive the Luxury @sewhayleyjane box this month which was this lovely @rootid_fabrics cotton which has these green vines running across it. I went for the @megannielsenpatterns #mnmatilda dress which is the absolute perfect shirt dress for me and I immediately want to make a million more. I went for the curve version and did a SBA using the tutorial for the By Hand London Kim bodice. It fits like a dream 🙌 I played around with the stripe direction (mainly so i didnt habe to worry about pattern matching!) and colour blocking which worked out really well. Just a real joy to sew 😁

End of year sum up! I haven't felt like I've done much but that is not true. I made 28 garments finished this year. Which is a lot! No wonder my closet is so full. My most made pattern was the #barbietop from @gertie18 patreon. Mock turtlenecks are great. They are also transitional and i have worn them a lot. First class of the fall 2021 semester is in the books! I'm rocking my new back to school make, the #mnmatilda in the newly expanded size! I've had this fabric picked out for this dress for 5 years and I'm so thrilled that I've finally been able to make the dress. I made it in an 20 graded to an 18 at the shoulders. I'm so glad I didn't have to do this grading on the pattern on my own. The non curvy pattern goes to a sz 20, and the curve goes up to 58" hip. Thanks @megannielsenpatterns !! The fabric is a Scandinavian printed canvas and some contrast quilting cotton. 🪡 MATILDA DRESS 🧵 This pattern was released by @megannielsenpatterns waaaaaay back in 2017, but a classic shirtdress never goes out of style! I wanted a bit more of a sewing challenge recently, and I already had this pattern from years ago but had never gotten around to making it . I went with the sizing based on finished garment measurements for this one instead of recommended size measurements; I wanted the top to be fitted based on the Insta versions I liked. This put me at a size 6 top graded to a 10 at the waist and skirt which fits exactly the way I envisioned. I bought a couple of striped cotton remnants from the most excellent @wovenstoriestextiles which was perfect to sew with, and it’s so soft and cool to wear. Thoughts on the pattern: Yes there is a lot of pattern pieces involved, but don’t let that daunt you! The instructions are extremely clear and well written; there are a lot of steps but it’s not a difficult sew! The hardest part was arguing with my machine when trying to make the buttonholes 😆 As mentioned, it’s also a great pattern to use up remnants, and to mix and match fabrics. The small pattern pieces lend themselves to colour blocking or using contrasting fabric if you wanted to mix it up a bit! I really dig this classic dress, its modern but definitely has a retro feel! Ich mache in diesem Jahr auch wieder mit beim Weihnachtskleid Sew Alongs des Me Made Mittwoch Blogs. Bis ich wirklich viel zu erzählen habe, vorerst nur auf Instagram, aber sobald ich mehr zu berichten habe, werde ich auch meinen Blog wieder entstauben und dort berichten. Eigentlich weiß ich schon relativ genau was es werden soll und dennoch ist noch alles offen 🤔 Der Plan: Ein „winterliches“ Hemdblusenkleid soll es werden. Eines mit langen Ärmeln und minimum das Rockteil soll gefüttert werden, damit der Rock nicht an der Strumpfhose hochkrabbelt. Da ich aber keinen Schnitt nach meinen Vorstellungen gefunden habe, wird es ein Mix aus 2 Kleidern: Zum einen das #mnmatildadress Auf die Idee brachte mich @sewing_cyclist Da das Kleid aber keine langen Ärmel hat, kommt hier der zweite Schnitt ins Spiel: Das (Jeans-) Hemdblusenkleid #grasser704 Diese Idee kam von @viertelvorfertig Auch dieses Kleid gefällt mir total gut. Nur der Rock ist mir zu lang und schmal. Um die beiden zu vereinen, starte ich nun damit ein Matilda Dress zu nähen (mit gefüttertem Rock) und mit der Ärmellänge (inkl. Manschetten) des Grasser Kleides. Sollte das nicht gut sitzen, kann ich immer noch zum Grasser Kleid wechseln und diesem Kleid einen kürzeren und weiteren Rock gönnen. Ich bin selber gespannt was es am Ende wird. Mein Stoff ist ein einfacher Baumwollstoff in einem leicht warmen Rotton. Mit einem ganz leichten Anteil von Rostrot. Einen Futterstoff muss ich mir noch raussuchen. Sometime when a @sewhayleyjane box arrives I know instantly what a fabric should become. Although I loved this pineapple fabric as soon as I saw it it took me a while to work out the best pattern. I knew I wanted something that would allow the pattern to shine and eventually settled on the @megannielsenpatterns Matilda dress and I’m so pleased I did It’s been a slow but enjoyable sew with lots of lovely details that really make the dress something special. I added a @pinkcoatclub label to one of the pockets as a reminder ‘slowly does it’ is okay sometimes I love the Megan Nielsen Patterns because the instructions are written so well and really guide you through each step. The collar stand and collar were a joy to put in and the yoke came together beautifully too I ordered buttons from @felicity.fabrics to finish off the dress and settled on some beautiful gold buttons that compliment the pineapple print Unfortunately this pattern is still quite limited on the size range but given the curve range @megannielsenpatterns patterns now have I’d like to think this pattern will be extended soon too 🤞 Based on my measurements I fell between an Xs and a S. I have a 34inch bust and 27.5 inch waist. I opted for the size small as I was worried it might come up too snug if I made the extra small. Really I should have paid closer attention to the finished garment measurements as it has come up a bit big. My latest #mnmatilda #mnmatildadress #mnmatildacurve from #mnpatterns in cotton poplin from #fabricmartfabrics. This is my third one & I do have plans to make another one before summer is over. I didn't use the sleeve band & used bias binding to finish the armholes, and I used snaps instead of buttons. I forgot to make certain adjustments on the pattern pieces before cutting out this one. Therefore, I had to do those after the dress was completed; I made sure I put those adjustments on the pattern pieces. I had to remove inches from the back and the back waistband. #fabricmartmake #sewover50

My most recently made garment is the #mnmatildadress #mnmatilda made in a tencel/cotton blend chambray from #fabricmartfabrics I trace a size 16 blouse of the curve pattern & should have grade to the 18 at waist but forgot, although I did trace a 18 at waist to 20 at hips all the way to hemline for the skirt. Although I did do a 1” FBA, I still came up short at waistline when I was attaching blouse to waistband. Did some REALLY creative things to fit the two parts which affected the circumference, therefore to make up the shortfall, I stitched a 3/8” seam from 5/8” from top of button band in order to made sure the collar stand would fit. My measurements are: HB 38.5”; B 44.5”; W 38”; H 52.5”. I like the fit overall, but I don’t think I will do french seam on princess seams again because I was unable to clip into the curves & the seams are not lying as flat as they should, which seem to cause some drag lines. I was a tester for this pattern, and it took me a while to make this version because I couldn’t decide if to do in a plain or print fabric (test version was in a print). I plan to make another with sleeves for the Fall.

I really enjoyed making the @megannielsenpatterns #mnmatildadress #matildadress Love the retro design, statement pockets, slight volume in the skirt, stand collar, everything! This is a wearable muslin test sew using some ancient woven fabric from stash. I graded between three sizes (small at neckline to large at waist), topstitched everything, and I added a second button on the waistband. I'm making this again in a nice light linen! #portmoodysews

17 hours to make a dress 👗 Another beautiful Matilda dress in @libertyfabrics ! I love this material- it’s vibrancy and it’s ease of working with. It makes such beautiful garments that I’m sure will get worn out often and loved very much! Just what I want for my creations! How perfectly sunny is this dress? Another order for an awesome repeat client. Thank you! ☀️ . As I try to take my craft full time, I’ve had to be more precise in my methods, tracking how much time it takes to do everything in my projects. It can be hard to predict, but I need to take my best estimate- especially when I have to calculate how much to charge in order to keep my business sustainable. As I went, I wanted to record the steps to see if it was worth documenting to share. Some crafters might love watching this, for others, a minute is too long to watch a 17 hour process condensed down in to a fraction of that. But I hope you enjoy it nonetheless. I posted as a WIP as lockdown meant no button shopping, but impatient to wear it so ended up using self-covering in same material, which look great. I’m currently sewing up, alongside face masks, a @megannielsenpatterns Matilda dress and can honestly say it’s one of the best patterns I’ve made. I’m really enjoying the process and the instructions are written so clearly and hold your hand throughout. This pattern has a million pieces to it (it certainly feels that way when cutting it out 😂) but sewing it up has been an absolute joy. It’s been a garment of firsts for me with steps going well first time round that previously I’ve dreaded! It’s got a waistband which sewed up like a dream, the collar stand and collar instructions are also fabulously written too and made inserting both a dream. I love the way the sleeves are finished and again the instructions are so clear. Enjoy this close up of my crisp collar and pressed pleated pocket - details I am so proud of and keep staring at too. It really has been such a joy to sew and I’m itching for my buttons to arrive so I can finish it off. The pineapple fabric is from a @sewhayleyjane box and I’m glad I waited for inspiration to strike before rushing into sewing this up. I think it’s going to become one of my favourite dresses to wear and I’m already planning my next version! Let me know if you’ve made this pattern up - did you find it as enjoyable to make? This dress has been living rent free in my head for the last 2 years. The fabric has been in my stash 10 years, long enough to apply for permanent residency. Thanks to the distraction reduction of #lastsewiststanding2024 some of these long planned stash projects will finally see the light. I like the vintage/vaguely rockabilly style of the #mnmatildadress and I thought it would be the ideal match for this tattoo fabric from #alexanderhenryfabric. I used plain green gaberdine to frame the print at the edges and yoke. It's still a lot to look at, but with calming solids to interrupt the busyness. I fussy cut the pieces to get print details where I wanted them, like the matching skull sleeves and pattern matched pockets. I french seamed the whole thing ( including the bloody armholes, not fun 😂) for that extra luxe touch. If this fabric waited a decade to see the light it deserves the best 😀 Thanks to everyone that voted on my stories - the purple buttons won by a country mile 🏃 It's testament to how much I love the #mnmatilda that I put up with making so many bloody buttonholes. I made this Matilda with cotton sateen from @fabricgodmother. I sewed a size 6 with no adjustments. I lined the pockets with cotton lawn to avoid pressing the curved edges.
