Years ago my husband did some consultancy work for a fashion brand of jeans, which is funny because he isn't the least bit interested in fashion! He worked for a sustainable solutions company back then. The thing he kept coming across was whilst textiles and the care of them was becoming more durable with longevity and sustainability in view, the actual fashion industry was working on encouraging people to be bored with their purchases after a year or two at the most. When I make my own clothes, after spending so much time and money on them I want to wear and love them till they are worn through! I made these @megannielsenpatterns Ash jeans last May. Swipe to see them new. I wear them a lot. They are faded a bit but are comfy and soft. The denim came from @minervadotcom , gifted in exchange for a blog. I'm really pleased with the quality of the fabric and the pattern. I'm expecting to be wearing them for quite some time. For me, sustainability in my sewing is about making wearable clothes which are not faddy. I want timeless pieces that are both lovely and comfortable to wear. Tell me, are you team white denim or no? I love a good pair of white jeans mostly because they are easy. Pair with a cute top, sandals or sneakers and go. These are a hack of the #mnashjeans flares in a herringbone stretch denim from @fabricdotcom An attempt to dupe some I saw at Veronica Beard. The mods were pretty simple. I just cut a deeper waistband (finished depth of 21/4”, did 2 buttons instead of one and sewed up a belt. Easy peasy. And you may remember from my stories, I also eliminated the pockets. I just didn’t like seeing the outline of them. So I removed them and sewed the pockets shut. I have been pretty hopeless with posting this May. But I knew it wouldn't be easy to keep up. Safe to say I have worn memades every day... as I do nearly every day anyway. Here are some of the things I've worn on days I didn't post. Starting top left going clockwise: Kinjarling dress, fabric - viscose ( anniversary party) Lark tee, fabric - striped ponte Molly tee, fabric - cotton spandex; ash curve jeans, fabric - stretch denim, Ilford shacket, fabric - brushed flannel. So a day at @sew_toon begins with cake for breakfast! Today I worked on a pair of Ash curve jeans. I added the waistband and the belt loops, so there's only the hems left to sew. They're made from black denim from @justsewpenrith . It's quite lightweight but a lovely real black. The pocket bags are made from pieces of viscose I pieced together to make up the right shape. I used the same for the inner waistband. Happy May Day, happy Beltane, and happy first day of #memademay2024 ! In honor of the intensely green spring we’re having, I’m wearing a new make: a #roscoeblouse in green washed linen I got last year at @sewingloungemn. This was technically a remnant- about 1.7 yards. I was happy to squeeze this out! Like another favorite Roscoe, this is a size 8, which is 2 sizes smaller than my measured size. The length felt like it overwhelmed me in this linen, so I folded the hem up 2 inches twice for a substantial deep hem. I love this color and I love this pattern. This started out as #sewjeanswithus with @kmovern and has now resulted in my new obsession 😂😂😂 This fabric is fabulously stretchy blue denim from @rainbowfabrickilburn which I thought would make a great pair of flare jeans! 👖 I made the #mnashjeans again only I sized down to a 10 (from a 14) because of the stretch. I lowered the rise by 1” and I added a size 16ish waistband. I also took in the flare by about 1/2” each side grading from the knee. I used bee fabric as the pocket lining and added a @kylieandthemachine label! I absolutely love these jeans!! Hello from spring break at Yosemite National Park! Wearing my newly completed #mnashjeans in the straight cut. These are a size 14 with 2 inches added to the rise and 2 inches added to the tall length because I really wanted to be able to roll a deep cuff and a previous pair wasn’t quite long enough to do that even with the tall length. My height is all in my legs! I also did a small round pubis adjustment and a low seat adjustment. Gosh, I love this pattern. This is my second time making it, with some new adjustments this time. It was a little bit of a crapshoot with lengthening the rise so much but that’s some of the fun of sewing, right? They turned out exactly as I’d hoped. It’s so great that as a sewist, I can adjust patterns to fit my own unique body and preferences - in this case, a jeans rise that goes up to my ribcage. 😂 I have such a hard time from a sensory perspective with jeans waists that hit anywhere except basically all the way above my belly, which means a lot of jeans don’t work for me. These do work! I did not get my back pocket placement right, of course. In fact, I’d go so far as to say my pocket placement is insane! 😂 I need to remove one pocket and move it over, or maybe take them both off and start over - a good reminder that I should always wait until the very end to do back pockets on jeans, ha. I can’t remember where I got this fabric but it is sooooo stretchy it’s practically like leggings. I love it and it really works for my comfort preference. Worn here with a favorite #bedrocktee .

Nipped to Blackfriars Bridge for some sunset photos; quite strange but fun to be back where I worked from 2000-2005 (and how it’s changed!). Watching the cyclists on Farringdon Road is like watching some sort of insane Tour de France/gladiatorial mashup - terrifying! Chose Swayzak as the music because I listened to Himawari many times on the tube to work.

I made the Scout tee in 2018 in viscose from the same place. The jeans were made this year. Ash curve by Megan Nielson in 12oz indigo denim from @1stforfabrics I wanted a more "mom" style fit, so the thighs are roomier, which I find really comfortable. The jacket pattern is tnt for me..... The fabric is gorgeous denim from @driessenstoffen.nl 👖 I used a great @thespeckyseamstress leather patch on my toile and a @little.rosy.cheeks label on my second version. My second pair of jeans! 🎉 these were so much easier to fit than my first pair. A lot of it probably has to do with these being stretch jeans, but also I learned a lot about pants, fitting pants and my body the first time around. Also my measurements almost exactly align with the #mnashjeans size 12, so that helped 😁 I’m so excited to have these - I’ve already worn them several days after finishing sewing them a week ago. I have another pair planned out and hopefully will get to soon! Pattern - @megannielsenpatterns Ash Jeans #mnash This is a great pattern for me! It fit me with very minor adjustments that I usually have to do for pants/leggings, and I love the leg options. Fabric - @joann_stores lucky denim, 7oz stretch. The fabric feels a little thin, and mostly was a test of the pattern and fit. But good enough to go into heavy rotation! Lest you think I only post awkward reels of my sewing, here’s a static post for my most recent finish. Turns out sewing for 30 min a day can be quite productive 🙌🏻 who knew?? 🙃 This is the #nephelineblouse by @vivianshaochen View B, size 2, no mods. I love how beautiful this top is in this crisp cotton poplin (Nova cotton from @ewefibers 😘) even if it shows a few puckers I didn’t get quite right. Unfortunately, I don’t love the actual fit of this top on me. The shoulders are pulling a bit and the neckline is quite wide. I’d also probably bring in the A-line shape quite a bit if I ever make it again. And yes, I did toile this one! Originally in a size 3 for my 34” bust, and am glad I went down a full size. MMM 2025 Day 5 Well the weather has changed again and I am back in my warmer clothes - it’s 15 degrees here in Ljubljana and wet. This is all good as it gives me a chance to wash the summer clothes and wear something different!! I am standing here next to a kangaroo drinking fountain - I can’t find out why she is there except that Ljubljana is a very ‘green’ city and over the last 20 years they have installed a number of great ‘bubblers’ for everyone to enjoy while also cutting down on plastic waste. These are the Megan Nielsen ash jean in the flare version. I made them in a olive stretch denim. I really like them. I have been hesitant to sew jeans since the first pair I made almost 10 years ago did not turn out well. I used a different pattern and I think I tried to over fit them and then just never really was able to wear them. I saw a couple vloggers I like to watch were doing started #sewjeanswithus and so it motivated me to make these since I already had the pattern. I made a size 29 which was a pretty good fit. I did take a wedge out of the center back yoke. I did not adjust the waistband at all. I also adjusted the back crotch to more of a j shaped curve. The only other adjustment a made was to take a couple inches off the length. I think next time though I would add back an inch. I think being petite I'm just used to my pants being a little longer so I feel like I made these too short. The jacket is a vintage simplicity pattern 6857 from the 1970s. Today I am sharing my new Nikko Tops. I bought 1.5m of the cream and the black double brushed viscose fabric from @bornellafabrics which was enough to make one of each colour top. I also managed to get a third top which was half and half. I made the @truebias #nikkotop before my trip to Iceland. They were the perfect warm base layer!
