Definitely one of my favorite garments I’ve ever made! This is the #mndove blouse lengthened into a dress with pockets added. I did a 1” forward shoulder adjustment and bit of a sloped shoulder adjustment which fixed the big neckline gaping I’d gotten with the pattern as written. But I realized when I made this dress, my second with these alterations, that I forgot to add the 1” onto the back piece so I have actually radically altered things but it works!! I found this great fabric at my neighborhood yard sale, it’s a heavyweight cotton but the drape is very nice. Two recent makes and an OOTD all in one! I made this top for work but wore it out for lunch today. Which I’m happy about because I’m experimenting with having less of a distinction between work and not work clothes. It meets a lot of my criteria, simple, clean lines, good neckline, sleeve coverage, and a good balance of loose but not baggy. The pattern is the @megannielsenpatterns Dove blouse, curve version. Based on my measurements I was only planning to grade up a size at the hips. But after a couple of toiles I also sized up in the sleeves and bust, so the neckline, shoulders and top 3” of the sleeves are size 16 and the rest is 18. I left out the centre front seam so as not to break up the print, and raised the neckline about 0.75” to make it safe for work. I finished the neckline with bias binding. I also shortened at the hem by about 1” by sewing the hem facing with a bigger seam allowance. Next time I’ll shorten the body 1-2” before cutting it out. The fabric is @ladymcelroyfabrics cotton lawn from @fabricgodmother. I wish it was a bit drapier but I love love love this hydrangea print and love the colours with my silver hair 😍 Pants are my wearable toile of the famous @stylearc Bob pants, in suiting linen from @spotlightstores. I altered the pockets to catch in the waist seam and cropped the legs 4.5cm on the short side (8.5cm on the long side) and levelled off the hem to make it horizontal with the floor. Other than that they’re a straight size 16, my usual Style Arc size. I love these pants and they’re a great addition to my small but growing collection of elastic waist lifesavers. I tried to get a pic showing this outfit seated but did you know that when you sit down it becomes impossible to know what to do with your arms? Clearly, I'm more of a geometric Ankara print fan. Had too many to choose from and need to keep some for the rest of the week's themes. The first two prints are the same design in different colourways, purple and pink respectively. The #LilatoJumpsuit was cut correctly along the grain, whereas the #WinslowCulottes were cut on the crosswise grain so the triangles pointed down. The #MNDove blouse was made with the first Ankara print I ever purchased and I truly regret not getting more yardage in this colourway. Kente prints are always a win and definitely appeal to the geometric design fan. This time it showcases this gorgeous cotton linen from @Potter_and_co_australia that I scooped up during the recent sale. Generally this pattern fits right out the box with no mods, but I prefer the sleeve ruffle to the flared or bell sleeve variations - keeps them out of the dish water! After making a black version of this top around the holidays, I realized I had some of the feather trim in pink too, and definitely needed to make another version for Valentine’s Day 🩷. #HeatherBlazer love!! There hasn’t been much sewing happening around here lately, but over the past week I have managed to make the Heather Blazer up in 10 minute increments (my patient had a nice long nap yesterday which enabled me to finish it!). I bought this gorgeous yarn dyed linen (Pixel, I think) from @potter_and_co_australia some time ago intending to make trousers, but it was a bit too light weight for that. Months of wrestling with ideas followed and I was suddenly struck with inspiration to make the blazer - the lining and interfacing are just the thing to offset the light fabric. The fabric was a bit hard to work with (fraying and moving around a bit!), but so worth it - I love the texture of the linen, it seems to have a slight sheen from a distance but up closer it gorgeous and slubby. The pattern is beautifully written with excellent instructions, highly recommend it. I will be making another soon in a linen tweed, stay tuned… This is not a great outfit for it, just me skulking in the shrubbery in todays OOTD, #CcPietra pants and #MNdove top - I look forward to cooler wearing and styling it properly! #memade #memadeWardrobe #sewover50 #handmadewardrobe #memadeeveryday #homemade #sewing

After a long sewing absence (between moving and losing my sewing machine pedals in the move, and then finding them months later) I have made a garment! This is the @megannielsenpatterns #mndoveblouse in #bflinen from @blackbirdfabrics ! This pattern was SO well written and creates such a crisp, office-ready garment. My favourite part was the basting stitch-turned-shoulder sleeve fitting technique that I use on other garments now as well. I had to re-do the neckline to perfect the fit of the facing and make a clean v neck, which was very worth the effort. This shirt is ready to go to work! This linen slub from blackbird fabrics was also a treat to work with. I had originally purchased it to make shorts but pivoted when I decided I wanted a nice blouse! This fabric is so versatile and would pair well with a nice dressy blouse like this or casual shorts or shirts too. Two recent makes and an OOTD all in one! I made this top for work but wore it out for lunch today. Which I’m happy about because I’m experimenting with having less of a distinction between work and not work clothes. It meets a lot of my criteria, simple, clean lines, good neckline, sleeve coverage, and a good balance of loose but not baggy. The pattern is the @megannielsenpatterns Dove blouse, curve version. Based on my measurements I was only planning to grade up a size at the hips. But after a couple of toiles I also sized up in the sleeves and bust, so the neckline, shoulders and top 3” of the sleeves are size 16 and the rest is 18. I left out the centre front seam so as not to break up the print, and raised the neckline about 0.75” to make it safe for work. I finished the neckline with bias binding. I also shortened at the hem by about 1” by sewing the hem facing with a bigger seam allowance. Next time I’ll shorten the body 1-2” before cutting it out. The fabric is @ladymcelroyfabrics cotton lawn from @fabricgodmother. I wish it was a bit drapier but I love love love this hydrangea print and love the colours with my silver hair 😍 Pants are my wearable toile of the famous @stylearc Bob pants, in suiting linen from @spotlightstores. I altered the pockets to catch in the waist seam and cropped the legs 4.5cm on the short side (8.5cm on the long side) and levelled off the hem to make it horizontal with the floor. Other than that they’re a straight size 16, my usual Style Arc size. I love these pants and they’re a great addition to my small but growing collection of elastic waist lifesavers. I tried to get a pic showing this outfit seated but did you know that when you sit down it becomes impossible to know what to do with your arms?
