A quick make from scraps for my daughter for school dress down day where they had to wear red. Definitely should have gone up a size as she is not going to get a huge amount of wear from it but if it lasts the winter I will be pleased She has also been complaining that sometimes the labels I put in can be scratch so I got one of those school name stamps made up with 'made with love'. Currently stuck at home with covid so needed something to while away the time. Considering how much I love the @megannielsenpatterns Jarrah Sweatshirt I thought I would extend the love for the smaller members of the family and make some scrappy jumpers. Penny loves these athletic skirts with built in shorts and already owns a few RTW versions. So obviously I had to make us some matching ones! I used @samanthamariedesign Cade shorts in both child and adult. There is a circle skirt add on for the kids pattern but not adult, but luckily I already had one in my size drafted from previous athletic dresses I’ve made. Green athletic fabric is from @bluemoonfabrics . My purse is a #bfbestiebag bag, and if you saw- I posted a few close up shots on my grid a couple days ago! I changed things up and added a scrunchie strap and big bow detail. Fabric is a tencel twill. So this sweater was actually supposed to be a matching mommy-and-me set. But in true me-fashion, I tried a risky hack of a pattern without toiling it first… just cut straight into the fabric. My first make for my mini! The Jarrah sweater by @megannielsenpatterns has quickly become a favorite T&T pattern in my winter arsenal, and after Janey started gravitating toward big sweaters and leggings this Christmas, I thought she’d love her own version of this sweater. Enter the Mini Jarrah! We chose the cropped funnel neck view, lengthened the sleeves and bodice to fit her tall frame and sewed it up in some of @blackbirdfabrics’ snuggly bamboo and cotton stretch fleece in Toffee. I love how quickly it came together and how perfectly it fits her! It’s been awhile since I’ve done matching outfits with P ❤️. My sweatshirt is inspired by a sweater that @starleewhite wore in an ootd last year, and its lived rent free in my head ever since. I used my favorite #MNjarrah , and it was easy to divide it up for color blocking. A couple other adjustments I made was widening the neckband ribbing, and narrowing the side seams so the shape was a little less boxy. Penny’s is also a #mnminijarrah . I didn’t have enough of the green sweatshirt fleece to colorblock hers in the same way, so I just cut a contrasting kangaroo pocket. One #mnminijarrah at long last!! I think I printed the pattern over a year ago 🙈. The dropped shoulder and deep hem are a nice change from my usual t-shirt pattern. This might work a bit better in a French Terry but I think its alright with the ribbing. I added an extra 2-3” as it looked a little short and it used up the full length of the 1/2m - it looks a little like a sweater dress on so normal length is a good fit! Another first. Making clothes for little people with BIG opinions. My eldest was perfectly content with however I chose to dress him for the first five or so years of his life. Now, not so much! And younger brother developed opinions early on. So many hand-me-downs have gone unworn because of this. With this knowledge, I still wanted to make clothes for them (and risk them being unworn 💔😫). They’ve been real supporters of my sewing hobby, and say the most encouraging things whenever they see me working on a project. 🥰 They were genuinely excited when I told them I would be making something for them next. “Who would refuse a cozy sweatshirt?” I thought. No one. I chose a drop shoulder sweatshirt pattern, and settled on @megannielsenpatterns‘ #mnminijarrah and #mnjarrah (for myself, of course). I then pondered splurging on my first serger for a good couple of months before my partner gifted me one as a (quite) early birthday present. !! I literally squealed in delight when the first sweatshirt came off the serger with bands and cuffs in place. So small, so cute, so satisfying to sew! I can only imagine sewing clothes for tiny babes. 🥹 Each one took about an hour to sew, which is lightning speed in my book. The kids happily put their fresh-off-the-machine sweatshirts on, and danced around in them. And kept them on the entire* day!! 🥳 *Okay, so they took them off for a bit. It was a rare warm day! DETAILS 🌻 My kids are on the smaller side; I made the sizes that match their ages, giving them room to grow. 🌻I wasn’t brave enough to try a twin needle this time, so I topstitched the hem and neck bands. I used a zigzag stitch with a width of 0.5mm and length of 2.5mm. (You can see the stitching up close if you swipe through.) The topstitching made a rippling effect, so I may have stretched the fabric while sewing. 🌻 Modifications: Reduced hem band circumference by a few inches, as I wanted more volume. 🌻 Fabric: the softest cotton French terry and 2x1 rib knit from @iseefabric #iseefabric #mnminijarrah #memade #memademay2022
