Just finished my Sudley dress/blouse from Megan Nielsen with a slight change to the sleeves. The pattern is really versatile and comes with an optional Peter Pan collar and attaching gathered skirt. I changed the bottom of the sleeves to have a banded facing as I am not keen on elasticated wrists. This cutie did a repeat wear over here, and I insisted on a photo this time. Hurrah! I'm VERY proud of this shirt, because I actually fixed some problems with the collar the appropriate way instead of burying them - ha! We all grow, I guess. This is me wearing what I have already made and trying not to plan more projects. I knew I wasn’t going to commit to #nomakemarch but I love the thought behind it and really do enjoy seeing makes more than once on the feed! I try to plan a few projects each month so I have something to do through the cold winter months here, and I have no regrets about that. Very happy with how this dress turned out! It’s essentially two layers of cotton lawn so pretty heavy for a summer dress. Wasn’t sure if 1/4” elastic would be able to hold the skirt, but it worked out fine. I think I like it more with the ties loose (pic 2). . I've seen so many lovely @megannielsenpatterns Sudley blouses lately that I thought I would have a go. I'm due to go back to work next week and I need some new tops that are suitable. I made the simple version with the short sleeves and cropped hem from the leftover fabric from my Lea dress. It used less than a metre! I used the finished measurements as a guide and went for a size 4 as I don't like a huge amount of ease in my tops. I love the result - it's super cute and versatile as you can wear the keyhole at the front or the back. The Megan Nielsen Sudley Dress can be worn front or back. I will only be wearing it with the collar in the back because I look like 5 year old in lipstick the other way. @megannielsenpatterns I would not have considered this @katiekortmanart fabric previously but thanks to @yourcolorguru I now know these colors are ideal for me. I also added some silver piping to make the collar pop (prior to color consultation gold was my go-to). I also did a little hack to the sleeves by adding ties and gathers. I put in a facing at the break in the sleeves, then gathered them up with bias tape. Finally, I did my go-to hack of adding 1/4" elastic into the waist. I'm tall and busty and I look like a blob in this style dress without it. So ONE WHOLE YEAR (😱!!) after finishing the wearable toile of this dress I’ve finally started on the real version. Very usefully I had a baby between making the toile and the real version so my body has obviously changed. The children are back in school, and after a four-day mammoth flurry of housework, grocery shopping and catching up with essential chores, it’s time to continue updating my grid with my few lockdown makes! This is the Megan Nielsen Sudley dress, which I made back in January, waiting to be hemmed. It was the first time I had made a Megan Nielsen pattern, and it all came together very easily. I made my size but, being an oversized smock dress, I think I would size down next time. I added the waist ties for more shaping. Sharing a make from last year that didn't make it to the grid ☀️ When I booked to go wine tasting in California last year (swipe for proof! 🍷), I knew I wanted to make a dress for the occasion: something pretty, soft and spring-like. I went on the hunt for floral double gauze at the Stitch Festival, and it wasn't until the very last stand that I found the perfect one! The pattern is the Megan Nielsen Sudley dress, but I fully lined it, added an elasticated waist, and lengthened the sleeves. I also added a button/elastic closure instead of the ties. It ended up with exactly the delicate, spring vibe I was hoping for (and it was perfect for travelling as it didn't need ironing)...but I totally underestimated how warm the Californian sun would be! Showing off the sleeves and rounded edge on my handmade cape/top 🌸✨ Using the shape of something that exists already is different when you’re familiar sewing that shape from scratch. I liked the challenge though, and can recommend - it was 10/10 for fun. I have more lace and embroidered napkins and table runners, what should I make next?? Also, fun fact! These jeans were made in 1980 and never sold. They have tags from that year and are in perfect condition. Sturdy denim, and utility topstitching. I kept some of the tags on but removed the paper ones. Today is my birthday! And as has been tradition for the past few years, I made myself a birthday dress! Well, technically two dresses, both in fabrics from @wearethefabricstore - a #saltwaterslip in black silk twill, and a #mnsudley x #patinablouse mash-up in the most delightful black sheer check silk!   The slip dress is size XS blended to S at the hip, hemmed to mini-length. The main dress is mostly the Sudley dress in size 0, but I modified the sleeve to incorporate the design of the Patina blouse sleeve with the buttoned cuff. The main dress has some sweet little details: I love the ties at the back neck; the cuffs are stiffened with hand-basted black silk organza instead of iron-on interfacing, and feature cute flower-shaped shell buttons which I bought at the Oedo Antique Market in Tokyo last year; and I did a combo of French and bound seams throughout for an extra-neat finish. Making both pieces out of silk was a bit of a risk and I had to be super careful when cutting and sewing, but it absolutely paid off, as both dresses feel so luxurious and delightful to wear. As with any project there are small details on each dress that could have been better, but I also know that I'm the only one who will notice these little imperfections, and that they just exemplify the fact that I made this whole outfit myself! I had such a lovely time sewing these pieces, too - sewing is such a relaxing hobby for me, and after a very busy and stressful past couple of months, it felt restorative to spend a few days fully immersed in the act of creating something special just for me. This whole outfit feels so very 'me' - it's comfortable but still a little bit fancy, has some nice swish and movement when I walk, features beautiful little details, and is made in my favourite colour and fibre to wear. I'm so excited to wear it today for my birthday celebrations, and I'm looking forward to wearing it many more times in the years to come! I had such a wonderful time last night at @frocktails.to finally meeting in person so many of the lovely and talented local sewists I follow here online (and now I follow more of them!) There were just so many incredible outfits. We also got very lucky with the weather after raining all morning it was clear and warm enough to be indoor/outdoor. I had so much fun I barely took photos except of name tags. Thank you @oneflewtoofar for the Polaroid ❤️ In honour of the fact that I was one of the organizers of a fancy TO sewcial pre-pandemic, I re-wore the dress I made for that occasion. A #mnsudley in a fun embroidered space tulle. To stay on theme ‘a golden age’ I dyed some shimmery fabric in gold and made a simple tank and pants set to wear underneath. Paired with glitter socks and gold sandals. Thanks to the organizers who put together a magic night with yummy food, great prizes and activities.

I just realised that I made this Sudley top back in January and haven't shared any pics! When it comes to buying fabric, I really struggle to buy "neutral" or "solid" colours. Then when I make tops or pants, I feel that I don't have anything to pair together. While this top is absolutely gorgeous, I have not actually worn it, which is a shame but we are getting closer to jeans weather so I'm confident it's going to get some wear as it starts cooling down. I made this dress on the weekend and it's the first make in a while that I have not loved straight away. I'm not sure if it's all the white in the print or something else that's just not ticking the "kellie" vibe....I  also agonised for ages over where to repeat the pink fabric that I used for the ruffle but all of my ideas felt a little too "clown core"..... patch pockets with ruffles, collar with ruffles or collar in pink. Sadly the scrap of pink fabric had some blue dye that had run so there's not really enough to use.  Details Fabric - upcycled cotton doona cover that I thrifted Lining - white rayon from my stash Pattern - sudley dress by @megannielsenpatterns View C with View A sleeves I cut the lining the same width as the shirt and shortened the length by 9cm to make sure it wouldn't peak out below the skirt.  I cut half an inch off the sleeve length and used some pink cotton from my stash to add ruffles to the sleeves. For the ruffles, I cut 2 pieces 90cm long and 11cm wide. I sewed the short side together to make a loop, the folded in half with wrong sides together and sewed 2 lines of gathering stitches along the raw edge. I then attached to the sleeve after sewing the sleeve and bodice side seams together. Three posts in three days, who even am I?! This is my second entry into #SewAprilBlouse25. Yes, it's another Sudley blouse. No, I didn't plan it that way. Yes, I do make other blouse patterns as well 😂 The fabric for this blouse has been cut and waiting to be sewn for about 2 years, so this challenge was a good excuse to get it finished. Although I've made quite a few Sudleys before, the fit of this one is a bit off. The bias binding is too wide really, so the keyhole doesn't sit flat, which puckers the lining. It'll be fine under a blazer or jumper for work, but it does feel a little tight across the shoulders. My first entry for this year's #SewAprilBlouse25! 💛 Yellow isn't a colour I wear much, but after getting my colour analysis done earlier this year, I was feeling adventurous...so when I spotted this corded guipure lace at the Fabric Godmother open day in March, I took the plunge. All the finishing is done with French seams. It was slow going at times (lace and pins are not friends!) but the result is neat, subtle, and comfortable to wear. If I ever sew with lace again, French seams will definitely be my finish of choice. I used the Sudley blouse pattern as my base, but I adapted the back to get rid of the keyhole and tie. No fastenings ftw! Plus, this blouse has the double bonus of no hems - as I especially love the scalloped raw edges. I'm really pleased with the fit and finish. I've left it unlined and think it works really well over a simple nude cami. I’ve been binge watching the Great British Sewing Bee which has resulted in a sudden urge to sew all the things! I made this #mnsudley top by @megannielsenpatterns on Sunday using fabric that I’ve had in my stash for around 18 years. It’s something I bought online from Japan (a lightweight cotton seersucker). I only had just over 1 metre and I managed to squeeze in all the fabric pieces with barley anything to spare. I have the same fabric in black which I’m thinking of making another one with. Absolutely love it! A as be It’s so nice to be sewing again!

This is my 3rd sudley make, I'm on a bit of a roll 😀 I wore it to work on Monday, I'm lucky to work in an office where the vibe is pretty casual.  Details Fabric - designed by @elliewhittakerstudio quilting cotton from @spotlightstores View C without lining and View A sleeves Size 18 This time round, I added the collar and confirmed my initial thoughts.... which is that it gets lost in the highly patterned fabric.  I had a bit of trouble with the collar and bias facing on this version and had to unpick and resew a number of times. Me made May Day 19! I haven’t posted for a few days- mmm is quite intense if you try to keep up, so I decided to give it a break for a few days. Todays outfit is the @megannielsenpatterns #sudleydress ( blouse version) which I changed the sleeves on and chopped off lots of the length on the neck ties ✂️ Trousers are a very old pair of @tillybuttons #sewingsafiya trousers. These were one of my very first pairs of trousers that I made when I was just beginning to sew. The fabric is too flimsy for trousers really, but they still come out from time to time 😊. Much like the villain in a horror movie, our designer deadstock fabric is making another fateful appearance this week. For this year's Dawn of the Deadstock we're featuring pajamas inspired by the sleepwear in some of our favorite scary and suspenseful movies—stay tuned for one more tomorrow! The 1980s were a pastel wonderland, a mist of soft colors hanging in the air. Pastels were absolutely everywhere, even in horror movies! Because of this, we had to share the pastel pajamas worn by the characters in "A Nightmare on Elm Street." Some heroes wear capes, but these teens battled Freddy Krueger wearing nightgowns as their armor! When you make exaaactly what you had in your head ✨ Bliss ☺️ I used two vintage embroidered placemats and some leftover woven waffle knit to create this whimsical cape/top. I had to be very strategic about placement while cutting each piece, and I did add my own amateur embroidery on the collar to match! I used pieces from @megannielsenpatterns #mnsudleytop #mnsudley and then hacked the rest. I’ll share in my stories some of the fun design choices I made to achieve this shape, and to get enough lace to trim the collar. This was a really easy make, but it still challenged me to intentionally use as much placement as I possibly could. Finally, I have always been a velvet ribbon girl. I can’t not get some whenever I’m at a thrift store, or vintage shop or fabric shop. I've seen so many lovely @megannielsenpatterns Sudley blouses lately that I thought I would have a go. I'm due to go back to work next week and I need some new tops that are suitable. I made the simple version with the short sleeves and cropped hem from the leftover fabric from my Lea dress. It used less than a metre! I used the finished measurements as a guide and went for a size 4 as I don't like a huge amount of ease in my tops. I love the result - it's super cute and versatile as you can wear the keyhole at the front or the back. Just finished my Sudley dress/blouse from Megan Nielsen with a slight change to the sleeves. The pattern is really versatile and comes with an optional Peter Pan collar and attaching gathered skirt. I changed the bottom of the sleeves to have a banded facing as I am not keen on elasticated wrists. It's spring at last here in Brisbane - not that you'd know it, as it's cold and drizzly and grey right now! But I'm bringing the sunshine to my grid today with this @megannielsenpatterns Sudley dress in my favourite Summer Petals print! I made this dress straight after my wearable toile with most of the same mods, except this time I inserted 20mm elastic into the sleeve cuffs. This cotton voile from @wearethefabricstore is a tiny bit sheer so I fully lined the dress with plain white cotton voile, and only needed 1.5m of each fabric. This is such a delightful dress to swish around in, and I'm looking forward to putting it back in rotation over the next few months! It’s been a minute since I posted a finished object on the grid, but I’ve been sewing sewing sewing in the background to alleviate anxiety about the state of the world. I’m holding hope that the pendulum will swing the other way but it can’t come soon enough. In the meantime, I’m trying to help connect people to local resources like @ozarkcircleforchoice and learning who to financially support to help move the needle in the right direction. I am wholeheartedly pro-choice and know that this extremist minority religious power grab will not stand. Christianity has no place in legislation. This dress is an #MNSudleyDress by @megannielsenpatterns and I love it. The pattern has a lot of versatility. It is reversible, has four sleeve length options, can be a cropped blouse, blouse, or dress, and can have a collar or not. I chose to make this version with some @merchantandmills linen in the colorway Astrid. I love this pale red and cream stripe action. I elected to make a collar, and make the short sleeve on the dress version. I did add several inches to the dress because I wanted it a bit longer and I wanted to use as much of the fabric as possible. After making the ZW Gather Dress so many times I am now averse to having lots of fabric leftovers. I also added pockets, just like the ones in the ZW Gather Dress, so I did end up picking a side to be the front because the pockets are anchored into the waist. I could have done pocket bags and that would have worked into the reversible element more, but I feel like ones that are anchored in the waist can actually hold heavier items without pulling the dress down. I might eventually add some elastic to the waist to give it a little more shape. I’ve been fantasizing about all of the fun combinations of fabric types and pattern options to put together. This will definitely not be my last Sudley. 2.18.22 continued. This @shopwiksten #unfoldingjacket has been a workhorse since I made it three years ago. A great layer over sweaters, so much space for sleeves. Sharing a make from last year that didn't make it to the grid ☀️ When I booked to go wine tasting in California last year (swipe for proof! 🍷), I knew I wanted to make a dress for the occasion: something pretty, soft and spring-like. I went on the hunt for floral double gauze at the Stitch Festival, and it wasn't until the very last stand that I found the perfect one! The pattern is the Megan Nielsen Sudley dress, but I fully lined it, added an elasticated waist, and lengthened the sleeves. I also added a button/elastic closure instead of the ties. It ended up with exactly the delicate, spring vibe I was hoping for (and it was perfect for travelling as it didn't need ironing)...but I totally underestimated how warm the Californian sun would be! At the beginning of the year, I decided to pick up the @megannielsenpatterns Sudley pattern and make a relaxed-fit long-sleeved dress using some lovely purple cotton voile I got on sale from @drapersfabrics . I made view C, lined with white cotton voile, and omitted the elastic in the sleeves and shortened the skirt by about 5.5cm. I love how it turned out! It's a lovely lightweight and breezy dress, and I love that it's reversible - you can wear the keyhole at the front or back, though my preference is wearing it at the front (makes it easier to tie, haha)! It was a nice easy sew, too - nothing tricky, not a lot of pattern pieces or seams, and the parts that took the longest were gathering the skirt pieces and hand-sewing the lining to the armholes. I'm glad the weather here is finally warming up so I can put this dress back into rotation! On my sewing table: modified Sudley dress. Main fabric is a printed floral broderie anglaise, fully lined with white lawn. . Mods: 1. took in shoulder 1.5” to be sleeveless 2. lowered neckline 0.5” 3. lengthened bodice to waist and added an elastic channel 4. Added 1” ease across the bodice (0.25” each side seam) Note: I have the old pattern, so don’t know how the fit translates now… I started with size XS because that’s what I had cut out in tissue, likely would not need mods 2 and 4 if I started with size S . #mnsudleydress #dressmaking #sudleydress #meganneilsenpatterns

I paid $3 a yard and I squeezed it out of 2.5 yards. When I wear this dress, I feel happy! Especially when wearing it with my red shoes! I love accessorising this chambray Sudley with this beautiful colourful felt necklace. I used the Sudley paper version before more sizes were added. I added a couple of inches to each side of the skirt and an inch to the front and back bodice. I somehow hacked the back of this one and added a button placket... don’t ask me how - I stupidly didn’t write how I did it, down! Sudley comes in 0-20 (paper&pdf) & 14-30 (pdf). 14-30 goes up to 56” bust, 48” waist and 58” hips. Blackwood Cardigan goes up to 0-22 (b cup) & 12-30 (d cup). Very happy with how this dress turned out! It’s essentially two layers of cotton lawn so pretty heavy for a summer dress. Wasn’t sure if 1/4” elastic would be able to hold the skirt, but it worked out fine. I think I like it more with the ties loose (pic 2). . The Megan Nielsen Sudley Dress can be worn front or back. I will only be wearing it with the collar in the back because I look like 5 year old in lipstick the other way. @megannielsenpatterns I would not have considered this @katiekortmanart fabric previously but thanks to @yourcolorguru I now know these colors are ideal for me. I also added some silver piping to make the collar pop (prior to color consultation gold was my go-to). I also did a little hack to the sleeves by adding ties and gathers. I put in a facing at the break in the sleeves, then gathered them up with bias tape. Finally, I did my go-to hack of adding 1/4" elastic into the waist. I'm tall and busty and I look like a blob in this style dress without it. So ONE WHOLE YEAR (😱!!) after finishing the wearable toile of this dress I’ve finally started on the real version. Very usefully I had a baby between making the toile and the real version so my body has obviously changed. I’m WAAAY to lazy and free time challenged to make another toile so I’ve just taken out the bust seams by 1cm and am hoping that all this breastfeeding will shrink me back down to my pre pregnancy size by next summer which, judging by the amazing weather we’re having in the UK, is when I’ll next be able to wear summer dresses 😒☁️🌧. . The pattern is a super hacked version of the #mnsudleydress I’ve lowered the neckline and omitted the keyhole detail and it will have a 3 tiered gathered skirt added (really not looking forward to the gathering 😬) . The children are back in school, and after a four-day mammoth flurry of housework, grocery shopping and catching up with essential chores, it’s time to continue updating my grid with my few lockdown makes! This is the Megan Nielsen Sudley dress, which I made back in January, waiting to be hemmed. It was the first time I had made a Megan Nielsen pattern, and it all came together very easily. I made my size but, being an oversized smock dress, I think I would size down next time. I added the waist ties for more shaping. The fabric is deadstock viscose @sewmesunshine.uk and was given to me as an anniversary present from my husband. He knows me well 🤣 I guess this is not particularly seasonal! This cutie did a repeat wear over here, and I insisted on a photo this time. Hurrah! I'm VERY proud of this shirt, because I actually fixed some problems with the collar the appropriate way instead of burying them - ha! We all grow, I guess. I've seen so many lovely @megannielsenpatterns Sudley blouses lately that I thought I would have a go. I'm due to go back to work next week and I need some new tops that are suitable. I made the simple version with the short sleeves and cropped hem from the leftover fabric from my Lea dress. It used less than a metre! I used the finished measurements as a guide and went for a size 4 as I don't like a huge amount of ease in my tops. I love the result - it's super cute and versatile as you can wear the keyhole at the front or the back. This is me wearing what I have already made and trying not to plan more projects. I knew I wasn’t going to commit to #nomakemarch but I love the thought behind it and really do enjoy seeing makes more than once on the feed! I try to plan a few projects each month so I have something to do through the cold winter months here, and I have no regrets about that. It is the perfect puzzle for my brain and I have something cute to wear at the end of it.
