The Opals go to 48” waist and 58” hips. This is my second make of the opals - I received the fabric from @material_girl_laura when she had an awesome online fabric shop in return for a blog post. Unfortunately, I was silly and didn’t save a copy onto my blog site to look at! The material is a super soft viscose in this amazing vibrant coral! I feel I’m taking a step in @fat.bobbin.girl shoes with this colour and channeling her cool vibes! Which reminds me that @munaandbroad have a pretty awesome collection of trousers that I need to try ... and they are pretty brilliant sizing wise if you are a fat Sewist! And the Sagebrush Top is pretty much a staple ... still to find time to make it a dress but it will happen! I love @fridaypatterncompany patterns. With a few adjustments, I just feel awesome! Here’s my most recent make: Opal wide leg pants in dark chocolate brown linen that I finished last week. Both the first pic and the video of me 360 in the second slide are taken in my little garden that is looking lush and green. I have worn these pants pretty much every day since I finished them. The brown, a colour I’m getting used to bc I’m trying to wear out my black clothes, works with most of my tips like the modified, atleast 10 yo RTW top I’m wearing here. Day 22 Memade May Fat 2022 I forgot to post yesterday so here goes. I wore that quite a few years old @suurikasityo viscose top and @megannielsenpatterns Opal Curve linen pants. The pants are comfy af. The waistline is some cm’s higher than the original tester pattern. I’m wearing them today 23.5. too with a black RTW tee and a pink and red silk scarf wrapped around my neck. Me made May fat 2023 Day 16 Dirty mirror selfies saga. Today I wore the same faded black linen Opal pants as yesterday. The shirt was originally a dress I made in 2019 and shortened later bc I didn’t reach for the dress. Now I wear it mostly during the summer. And looking at my grid I wear it with these same pants every May. So yeah, it works so much better as a shirt than as a dress. The viscose is heavier than any other viscose I’ve seen. It’s soft and I love the colours of it. I’m wearing trousers. This is pretty unusual for me. I love a jumpsuit and dungarees but I never wear trousers. Mostly because I convinced myself that they didn’t suit me. Still, I really wanted some paper bag waist Ankara trousers and these #mnopal pants by @megannielsenpatterns kept whispering to me. . They were really simple to make, the elastic paper bag waist is so easy to sew. I think I made these in less than a day including cutting (which is the worst bit right?). You do need to wash Ankara first to soften it up nicely and help you remove the stickers! I love these and am in the middle of a faux leather shorts version. Wish me luck! . My vest top is also handmade by my lovely husband @the_best_lord he drafted the pattern and made it for me. Me Made May 2025 day 3 Jumping in with intensions of documenting makes that never made it to the grid. This is a parka I finished sometimes early 2024. Pattern Puuska-takki is from @suurikasityo magazine 3/23. I made quite few mods: omitted some pockets and the lining. I made either flat felted seams or binded seams though out the jacket. I am really proud of this make. There are also quite a few mistakes in the measure and cut pieces on the pattern. Fixed those too. Size is maybe 52 top graded to 54 for hips. The fabric was bought two years ago from @rcollectionfinland pop-up. It’s this hot chocolate coloured cotton twill that feels wonderful and has no wear marks after a year. I would have bought their RTW jacket but they just don’t suite my figure, at all. I was thrilled to find the fabric and exhausted to make my own jacket. It took me 5 months to make this sewing once a week at my sewing group. Oh and it still needs some snaps for the pockets, half are done. Worn with my chartreuse @megannielsenpatterns Opal curve pants in linen. You know when there’s one item of clothing that you always look for but can never find? For me it’s leather shorts, I’ve always wanted a pair, but as a plus sized person there are virtually no options. After seeing some I loved (but could neither afford nor fit into) on Net-a-Porter I decided to make my own. . These are made from faux leather that I searched all over for and found on @minervadotcom. The fabric is great, looks and feels like the real thing and apparently is washable. The pattern is the @megannielsenpatterns #mnopal in the shorts view with paperbag waist and belt. . Not going to lie these were hard to sew. The faux leather behaves well if you’re sewing right sides together. But that isn’t always possible. Nothing helped, I tried a non stick foot, walking foot, leather needle, long stitch length. In the end I had to finish them on my industrial machine. It sewed like a dream, but I know that’s not something most people have access to. I was very tired after an 8 hour work day + 2,5 hour meeting. But atleast I was very comfortable the whole day! I sewed both the top and pants almost a year ago, last summer. I think I shortened the pants. Me Made May is almost over. I have a sewing meet up coming this week and I have no ideas carved to stone yet.
