It is a lovely flattering shape that can easily be changed by leaving off the tie, using a belt instead of the fabric belt, or simply alternating where you tie the fabric belt. The sleeves could also be rolled up for a more casual and summer look or wear with tights and boots for winter ❄️ For the sewists following, it is based on the @meganneilsonpatterns #MNfloreat view A with #MNdarlingranges length sleeves and a straight hem. I modified neckline to allow pull on and no zipper or seam at the back. I reduced the back panel width 1.5cm along the edge and placed along the fold instead. I also used my own pocket pattern because I love a deep pocket so phones and things don't fall out. The sash is removable so can be tied in different ways and positions. I love the versatility of the @megannielsenpatterns #MNfloreat dress 💙 it's amazing with or without sleeves. A-line dresses don't usually suit me (mummy tummy and apparently I am a 🌲 shape 🤣🤣🤣) but I was pleasantly surprised with the combination of the wide angle skirt and the drape of the gorgeous linen 💖 there's enough fabric for volume but not too bulky when tied at the waist. It's not a style or colour I would usually choose for myself but I already had this cut out a few months back. I actually had sleeves cut out too but opted for sleeveless as we're in the middle of a hot summer in #Perth and I can easily add layers with a cardigan, coat or scarf. Despite not being a regular colour in my wardrobe it actually suits really well (thanks Hazel eyes 👀) and will be a wardrobe staple all year round. I kept the middle back invisible zipper as per the pattern but probably didn't actually need it with the altered neckline. Hem - Straightened the hem at the longest point Pockets - replaced with my self drafted giant pocket and raised the position. Cut these out from a colourful organic cotton offcut. Armholes - I reduced the shoulder strap width to a finished width of 5cm taking off the extra at the front and back of the armholes. Added removable sash around 1.8m long. For years now, my uniform had been jeans and a t-shirt. So these two Megan Nielsen Patterns are a good addition to that wardrobe. • The Rowan Tee is one of my most-made patterns. This was my first time making a short sleeve version and the crew neck though. It’s the best-looking neckband I’ve ever sewn, though I might lower the neckline a little as it’s a bit too high on my throat. I intended this size 10/12 one to be a bit looser than my other size 6/8 ones, but I hadn’t taken the limited stretch of this fabric into account. I don’t think a 6/8 in this fabric would have fit me. • The Floreat tee I made when I was pregnant (last photo is of me wearing it at 23 weeks pregnant with twins). I size down one size as I was making the knit version. It’s still very roomy - I would go down another size if I made this in a knit again. I like the oversized look worn knotted though! The fabric doesn’t have great recovery, so the neckband looks a bit funny. • Details: #MNRowan in a size 10 (bust)/12 (waist down) in an organic cotton jersey from N&N stoffen in Amsterdam. My 2019 make 9 was not completed this year! There are two things I just never got to to. Here are the ones I did complete. 1. My @papercutpatterns #somaswimsuit in an @elliewhittakerstudio print from @spoonflower. I also used elastic from @nelliejoans. I think this is the first photo I've posted of these! 2. Another papercut pattern, the #pinnacletop in a dusty pink from @drapersfabrics. I wear this a lot and should have more photos of it! 3. The fave: @fancytigercrafts #fendress. I've actually made three of these but I love this green Japanese floral print! 4. The #mandyboattee by @tessutifabrics. Fabric from spotlight and pictured with sewing pal @allknightsewing in a delightful mustard palette. 5. The #mndawnjeanshorts! I planned to make a full length pair but had so many sewing fails on the full length attempt. These shorts are pretty rad though in @drapersfabrics #selvedgedenim. Notions from @missmaudenz. 6. The #flintshorts! Another from @megannielsenpatterns and in @elliewhittakerstudio fabric. I absolutely love these and am excited to be wearing them this summer. 7. The #mnfloreattop! I don't have a great photo of this top but this one is OK. Fabric from @drapersfabrics. I initially planned to do sleeves but wanted to try the all in one facing which is coooool but now I kinda wish it had sleeves... 8 and 9 should have been the papercut kochi jacket and flutter dress but I haven't gotten to either! I have made plenty of other things though so I'm pretty happy with it. I think in my next #make9 I'll aim for a greater diversity of designs and seasons because this did end up as lots of summer pieces!
