The lemons fabric was one of the first fabrics I bought when I first started sewing with stretch about 7 years ago. I'm so pleased with these knickers and thinking I'll be making them for my daughter (and possibly myself??) from now on. The first ones I made I encased the waistband elastic and used the measurements from the pattern and it's ok, but not great. The other (light blue waist elastic) two I measured the waistband and did 95% of the length and I'm happier with them. They have an enclosed gusset which just makes it look so finished! Sigh, sewing slump...how do you get out of it?? Covid has meant I haven't had time to sew...the house is never quiet! And when I have tried to sew something simple like knickers I seem totally incapable of sewing fold over elastic and catching all the fabric. I am now doubting all my sewing abilities. 🙁 Is this just me? How do you get out of this rut???

Recent gifting roundup (swipe through)⁣ ⁣ I made a "choose your own sewing adventure" for my dad. His questionnaire included options like a neck tie, slippers, a face mask. He also got to choose color schemes and fabric types. He ended up with these fingerless gloves @patternsforpirates (a free sewing pattern!) My scrap pile is getting overwhelming 😬. So I’m scrap busting as many knits as possible and making new undies for my big girl. Using the @megannielsenpatterns #mnminiacacia undies pattern. #sewistsofinstagram

How long did it take you to make that? An impossible question. But tonight I sorta have an answer. 57 minutes. I started listening to an excellent podcast (swipe to see) and just had the topstitching left when the podcast finished. So I know I sewed these two pairs of undies in just under an hour. That includes pinning, serging, pressing, pinning, serging, sewing in serger tails, pressing, topstitching and pressing again. What that doesn't count is the prep: printing the pattern, choosing a size, assembling and cutting the pattern, prewashing and cutting the fabric, setting up the machine with proper settings and thread color. Whew, I'm ready for a drink just saying that. I don't want or need to know how long a sewing project takes. It's enough to know that it's an investment of love and time to make it. I got this little earth day shirt when my daughter was 1, second hand from a neighbor. I thought the little graphic was the sweetest but inevitably she grew out of it. After her sisters both wore it and it was given three kids worth of stains, I put it in my queue to become something new. With a few hours to myself this morning, I cut it up to make this @brindilletwig #btringertee from remnants of other projects. Scraps were pieced, two fronts were accidentally cut and that was fixed and from the back, i made her a pair of @megannielsenpatterns #mnminiacacia which is my favorite underwear pattern for kids! A little palette cleanser after the massive quilt project (I get that it was a cot size quilt but it was massive for me 😂) I made myself some @megannielsenpatterns #mnacacia a few months ago and they’re my favourite underwear. KNICKERS! I never want to sew another pair of tiny knickers ever again!! (But I probably will because they're so cute and addictive) 16 pairs this week for youngest two daughters (5 and 7) using Megan Neilsen's free Mini Acacia pattern, cotton lycra mostly from @minervadotcom and a few leftover scraps, and foldover elastic in just about every shade under the sun from #ebay I have always used #wavesandwildspeedypants Pattern previously for kids pants but I think now they're getting older I prefer the look and fit of these. I’ve made more handmade knickers, this time for my daughter 💓 I used the free Mini Acacia pattern by Megan Nielsen Patterns to sew up this little collection. The fabrics I used are cotton jersey fabrics leftover from dresses I made for my daughter last year. She still wears the dresses so can now enjoy wearing matching knickers with them 😍💁🏼‍♀️ The Mini Acacia pattern is a great little pattern that sews up speedily. It has a neat way of sewing the gusset too, using the burrito method. It's my daughter's golden birthday today. Two years old on 2/2/22. She was born on 02/02/2020. Which was also a Superbowl Sunday, in case you wanted more useless information. 😂 So what amazingly spectacular things are we doing?! Well. I made her underwear. The pattern is FREE from @megannielsenpatterns , and I made the 3T size so using fabric I already had. I know a kid needs more than 5 pairs, but the other two I have in the works weren't finished yet. And she might actually want some pink ones, so there's much more to do. It'll be at least a month before she wearing them anyway. Potty training is a P.r.o.c.e.s.s But I'm proud of them. I also made her a twirly dress she loves and got her a legit little tool bag so she could be just like daddy, and an applesauce pouch and granola bar. *Pretty* sure she'll love the last one the most of all her gifts. 🤷 #mnminiacacia #megannielsenpatterns
