The pattern has lots of original details including the collar, and shoulder darts. Felt quite literally like a pin up in this one - yes my waist band is held in with a pin - as I sped finished it and ran out of time to add press studs. I had some issues with the waistband that came out 8 inches shorter than the bodice and skirt - I don’t think I stretched the fabric that much. Hello friends! Sorry I went a little quiet, I was sad and lost my sewing mojo for a while. I’m back now, with a whole new @sewoveritlondon 1940s Wrap Dress - which I love so much! The fabric is a vintage cotton bark cloth (or possibly gaberdine) with white poly thread running through. It is so lovely and drapey. I used a vintage button as well. The only adjustment I made was my usual 1 inch narrow shoulder adjustment which worked a treat 💞💞 I’ve paired it with my new lovely red 1940s #memeryshoes and some gorgeous hair flowers from @ladylucksboutique - I highly recommend both places! Hello! 👋🏻 How has it taken me this long to create a profile just for sewing?! I've been sewing for longer than I can remember, but with the busy-ness of life, often I don't carve out as much time for it as I'd like. So... Finished this 1940’s wrap dress @sewoveritlondon in a black linen viscose @rainbowfabrickilburn. Made for a sombre occasion but really happy with the fit and it’s great to be able to make something I want rather than find something in the shops that’s not quite right. For once I made a size according to the finished measurements but forgot that sew over it’s patterns have less ease than normal. Just meant I had to be careful with the seam allowance 🪡📍. Barely sewn over the last few weeks. I started the @sewoverit 1940s wrap dress in this lovely gingham from @the_rag_shop but hit a wall. Until today! I’ve zig zagged the seams and started making the bias to bind the collar and neck seams. A trip into the office today meant I got to put on my latest make - the #soi1940swrapdress from @sewoveritlondon made from @fabricgodmother fabric. The fabric is printed with the stripes all travelling in multiple directions which both a) adds something interesting to the dress, and b) therefore didn’t require pattern matching (yay! Hello friends! I finally had good enough light in this stormy weather to take a picture of my new #sewoverit #1940swrapdress and what a journey it has been. Not because of the pattern, which I made in a straight size 8 and was a joy to follow. You guys, viscose crepe de chine is the devil. First, the fabric shifted so much during the cutting stage I had to do some pieces twice. Then, I realised you could see my underwear through it so needed to double layer the entire dress. In the same fabric because it looked orange with my slip. Then I had to buy more fabric. Which normally I’d be like ‘ohhh noooo, what a shame’ and then use it as an excuse to go on a spree. But it was more of this fabric and I was over it. So I made the dress a second time. Only to find that for some reason every piece of fabric (bar the waistband and centre back) had some how expanded AND dropped on the bias. So I had to unpick the sleeves, bodice and skirt pieces to make it lie right. On BOTH the outer and lining. Then I had to hem it. And it only looked right on my body - and always horribly uneven on the dress form. Which meant hemming a shifty fabric which spits out pins by myself as a single person living alone 🤬 I am not working with this fabric again unless it is at gunpoint. Having said all that; I do love the final product, it’s perfect for work and busy days out! And because I always include a dad joke: What did 0 say to 8? Spring is here and that means I made myself another dark floral dress while studiously ignoring the fact that my wardrobe is full of them already.
