I have made them since and they are a better fit around the top, but I definitely need to lengthen them a little. Again was using the 7 year old for pics here so not full length! I made the Carrie trousers using a beautiful cheetah-print linen-look fabric in green and pink, aiming for a versatile piece that I can wear year-round. Having previously worked with Minerva linen, I knew it would be a great choice. I sewed the trousers in a straight size 12 without any pattern adjustments, except for shortening the recommended elastic length by 2-3 cm for a snug fit. While I’m generally happy with the result, I think the trouser rise could fit better, and I plan to learn how to make those adjustments in the future. Second pair of lightweight summer trousers is complete. These are the @sewoveritlondon Carrie trousers made in rayon challis from @stylemakerfabrics. This is a rare example of me sewing with brand new fabric that hasn't been salvaged from somewhere. I got some vouchers for Stylemaker for my birthday/Christmas so I guess these are a present, 6 months after the fact! I have enough fabric left that I think I can squeak out a shirt as well. We'll see if I'm brave enough to go for the faux jumpsuit look! Pattern: Sew Over It Carrie trousers #soicarrietrousers Pattern size used: 10 My measurements: 5'10", 28", 37"/1.78m, 71cm, 94cm Pattern modifications: as usual I added length, which was challenging since the pattern doesn't have any lengthen/shorten lines and getting the taper to line up was tough. In total I added 4.5"/11.5cm but ended up doing a 4cm double fold hem rather than the 3cm single fold in the pattern, so I probably could have added less. I also had to do some quite drastic fit adjustments which involved much wider seam allowances on the full length of the side seams and the above knee part of the inseams. Basically my legs are twigs and in my first attempt with the 5/8"/1.5cm seam allowance I could have fit both legs into a single trouser leg!

Couldn’t make a normal face, apparently, so here I am hamming it up for #memademay day 4 in my #soicarrietrousers. This was the first garment I made after getting back into sewing in 2020 and making way too many masks. The seam finishes are a mess, and I hadn’t yet realized that choosing fabric isn’t just about the color and design, but also (very importantly) the material. So these are polyester, very un-breathable. But still comfortable! They make me proud of what I could do when I was just bumbling through pattern instructions, and really proud of how far I’ve come.

A quick pair of elastic waist pants to help me transition out of sweatpants and leggings and into proper office clothes. My work from home days are numbered! My 2023 is going to be title/ The Year of the Trousers. A conscious effort of making some properly fitting trousers and getting me out of the elastic waist comfort zone I’m in. TBH I don’t love the look of elastic pants and find they add so much bulk to my midsection but they are so easy to make and wear. Great pattern and fabric duo. I made two pairs of #soicarrietrousers, one for my dear friend @diangelicah in black and mine in color camel. Mine were a size 14 with no modifications and I thought the length was perfect for my height of 5' 7". I love how different my pair looks with either darker tops or lighter tops. Either way they are a great all year trouser. If it helps the pattern is forgiving however my measurements where exactly w:32 h:42. FABRIC: cotton linen jacquard abstract. I was gifted the camel color from a Facebook Buy Nothing group. The fabric in black was purchased from the wonderful @drygoodsdesign :) Each pair was cut from 2 yards of fabric where I washed and ironed before laying out and cutting. What I think is super fun about this fabric is that when freshly washed, they are more of a tapered look and on a second day of wearing them, they are baggier . . . think of harem pants. Two makes using patterns from @sewoveritlondon, the Carrie Trousers in a Ponte Roma, and the Amelia Jacket in a synthetic leather fabric from @minervadotcom. Pins leave holes in synthetic leather so had to use clips instead. I did add a self-drafted hood to the jacket, as well as interlining, and lengthened the jacket. I never got round to putting my #sewfruity23 entry on the grid so now that I’ve finished the trousers it was meant to go with I thought I’d do a round up. My fruity make was an #ogdencami with hacked straps so that they were ties. Something simple but really versatile. This is the first time I’ve made the Ogden in a viscose and I’m planning many more now! My green trousers are a hack of the #soicarrietrousers by @sewoveritlondon which I absolutely love. I loved the waist and pockets of the Carrie trousers but thought that the shape of the legs didn’t suit me as much as these wide leg ones. I used the slash and spread method to widen the legs (I never knew this could be used for trousers - I always thought it was a sleeve thing!) I made the trousers the same way as usual and didn’t have any issues. I think I may redo the hems so they are a fraction shorter. I love these two makes together and think they are a great summer outfit. I will definitely wear them together and separately. The colour combinations for me really work well! Carrie by Sew Over it aka the trousers of my dreams made in Charcoal Cupro from @rainbowfabrickilburn I was a bit worried from the line drawing that these would be too straight, but happy to be wrong. Comfy-smart trousers to help me embrace more working from home these days. I made these plain black #soicarrietrousers in a size 20 for feeling work-ish in the house. Flat front and elasticated back gives the illusion of tailoring which is nice, but as with any elasticated trousers I would think carefully about wearing them out and about as I'm not a fan of gathering on my rear(!) I’ve got a gap in my me-made wardrobe - little to no trousers - and I’ve been meaning to remedy that. I decided to make the SOI Carrie trousers. The Carrie trousers have a flat front waistband with an elasticated waistband at the back. I made the Carrie trousers in a straight size 12. I did not make any adjustments to the pattern. Going forward, I might experiment in making the trousers in a size 10. I used some faux linen. It’s not the best/softest fabric - good enough for a wearable toile. I would make this pattern again in a softer linen, viscose or cotton lawn. I nearly gave the pattern away after making a very ugly muslin… then I sized down and used a wonderful cotton weave from @universityofsewing and these are lovely and comfortable and perfect for summer. My frankenfrock! To excited to wait for good photos, I'm excited about this dress. I have had this material since last summer (from @fabworksmillshop ) and had been thinking about a cosy long sleeved dress. I wanted some shaping to the skirt, nothing too full and good pockets. I couldn't find what I was looking for, find lots that were close but not quite right. So I decided I'd have a go at blending some patterns together to get what I needed. 3 patterns from 2 companies. The bodice and sleeves are from @ellieandmac_patterns Breezy Dress. Nice and simple. The skirt is my @sewoveritlondon Tulip Skirt, but with a swap to the Carrie Trousers pockets! I folded my current tulip skirt pattern at the right spot by measuring against my carrie pattern and then just borrowed the pocket pieces from the trousers. I felt nervous about it, and probably didn't do as much planning and thought as needed. But, actually winging it a bit was loads of fun and I'm really pleased with it.
