Ready for autumn with my latest make, a @sewoveritlondon Ivy Skirt from one of the old @lisacomforthome magazines. I made it from a toasty stretch needlecord that I got from @newcrafthouse a while ago and lined it with a nude lining fabric, also from NCH. Thanks to @julieclairej for helping me figure out how to line it - I’d thought it was going to be complicated because of the wrap parts but actually it’s a faux wrap as it has an invisible zip in the centre-back so I just lined it like you would a regular pencil skirt and hemmed the lining a little higher so it can’t be seen where the front and under wraps meet at the centre front (which is my favourite part on this pattern, I love the little V they create 😁) I cut version 1 (the longer length) in a size 12 with no pattern adjustments. EN ⬇️ Marché aux fleurs 💐 Als ich die neue @lisetailor Kollektion gesehen habe, ist mein Herz kurz ausgesetzt. Das ist mein Thema, meine Farben! Wunderwunderschöne Frühlingsstoffe, die einfach gute Laune machen. Zum Glück gibts die Stoffe immer bei @berlinerschnitte und so konnte ich ganz schnell meine Lieblinge in der Hand halten. Die Viskose von Lise Tailor liebe ich sehr, denn sie ist schön griffig und lässt sich sehr gut verarbeiten. Aus „Pois de senteur“ (etwa „duftende Punkte“) ist eine Bluse Bonnie von @sewoveritlondon entstanden. Die Bluse ist etwas anspruchsvoller zu nähen, aber die Faltenlegung am Vorderteil war dank der tollen Stoffqualität wirklich kein Problem. Ich zeige sie euch die Tage noch genauer. Und dazu gab es aus „Sérénade“ einen Marilyn Skirt, ebenfalls von Sew Over It. Marilyn ist ein 3/4 Tellerrock mit zusätzlichen Raffungen - ich wollte einfach so viel wie nur möglich von diesem wunderschönen Stoff um mich haben. This is 'Beryl', a deadstock viscose who has a foot firmly in the 1930's and 40's. I was really drawn to this fabric as I haven't seen anything quite like it - a rust background with cream diagonal grid lines, and then delicate little sprigs of florals over the top. It's super cute. It would make a super blouse or dress. I love the idea of using a vintage-inspired pattern like the @wearinghistory #smoothsailingblouse or the #soibonnieblouse to really go all in on the vibe. My first entry to #sewaprilblouse25 is what was supposed to be a toile because I don’t love this fabric…except now I’ve made it (and hand sewn the neck binding and waistband), I really do like this little blouse. It’s giving real 40s/50s vintage vibes (hence pairing with my M&S Harper Cigarette jeans which I call my Marilyn jeans as they’re definitely like her Misfit era jeans). Looking at the cute collar I thought a bow or ribbon would look lovely and twee so I tried the drawstring I made for my next project into a bow (because we all know #bowtiesarecool ) So cute! I found the fit of the armscye on this blouse soooo much better than most patterns I’ve tried so I think the Sew Over It block may be a good one for my frame. I wasn’t keen on the split at the waistband though as it didn’t suit me, so I unpicked the waistband and traced the #fridaypatterncompanysaturdayskirtset tie off and sewed it to the permitted up waistband. This worked a treat and I’ll be repeating this for future versions. Thanks to @cloth_edit and @sewn_on_the_tyne for this fabulous challenge. I love a focus to help me make up my mind what to do! DE ⬇️ #soibonniedress More pics of my beloved Bonnie dress! I’ve had this @libertylondon fabric „Tapestry“ from @s.t.r.a.g.i.e.r in my stash for quite a while. I love it so much! The delicate print reminds me of porcelain. No pattern was good enough for it, but then I had this idea to pair it with the @sewoveritlondon Bonnie pattern. I lengthened the sleeves (as it’s still quite cold outside) and added a simple cuff. I also added piping to the collar and gave it more of a slightly rounded shape. And then I removed the elastic tunnel in the waist because I did not like how it looked on me and added tie bands instead for a more fitted look. Also shortened the skirt a little. I am very happy with how it turned out. My only regret is that the front pleats are barely visible because of the print. (Pic 2) But I am on my second Bonnie already and hope to do better this time. ❤️ DE Hier gibts jetzt alles über mein Bonnie Kleid. Den @libertyfabrics Stoff „Tapestry“ habe ich schon vor längerem bei @s.t.r.a.g.i.e.r gekauft. Ich lieb den Stoff total, er hat so ein schönes zartes Porzellanmuster und kein Schnitt kam mir gut genug für ihn vor. Aber dann hatte ich die Idee, eine Bonnie von @sewoveritlondon draus zu machen. Ich habe die Ärmel auf 3/4 verlängert (ist ja noch kalt draußen) und eine einfache Manschette dran gemacht. Dann kam noch Paspel an den Kragen, den ich ganz leicht abgerundet habe. Und dann hab ich noch den Gummizug aus der Taille wieder rausgemacht, weil ich das an mir nicht so mochte. Stattdessen gabs Bindebänder in die Taille und den Rock habe ich etwas gekürzt. Ich liebs sehr! Das einzig dämliche ist, dass man aufgrund des Drucks die Biesen am Vorderteil kaum sieht. Here’s a blouse I made in the autumn that I wore for the first time today, despite it technically being Christmas fabric (it’s the glittery stars that make it festive fabric, but that hardly counts!) It’s a @sewoveritlondon Bonnie blouse in the version without pleats. It’s a high waisted 1940s style blouse with a hidden button placket. I’ve made the front pleat version before & it’s lovely, but very difficult to iron after washing! So many patterns are great off the sewing machine but then the details are really difficult to maintain after a wash, particularly in natural fibres, I don’t think viscose was the best choice for pleats in hindsight. Anyway, I love this & hope it lasts a bit better in cotton! 🪡 The Knitting and Stitching Show 2024 🧶 I had a wonderful day today visiting The K&S Show for the very first time! Not sure how I feel about this make but I finished it! This is the Bonnie Blouse by Sew Over It #soibonnieblouse in the dress version using the skirt pieces from the pattern. It has an elasticated waist but looks much better with a belt anyway. It has a hidden button placket so I used some of the mismatched buttons I have in colours that match the fabric pattern. The fabric was a purchase from #1stforfabrics that I had originally bought to make a wedding guest outfit but changed my mind. It’s a lovely soft viscose, which also gave me a headache in trying to sew the pleats and button placket!! Another go at the Persephone pants and I love them very much. I sized down to a 8 this time, and lowered the waistline, so it's actually on my waist and not under my titties. I scooped out the back rise by a good couple of cm's, as well as making the darts at the back bigger and deeper. And to finish off, I tried a curved waistband for the first time, and I don't think I can ever look back. I love that the sewing community has given me the vocabulary and resources to try out these changes, and that I don't have to despair if a pattern doesn't fit me perfectly from the start. I made this #soibonnieblouse with some lovely pleats out of a viscose fabric. I guess the pleats are not so noticeable because of the busy print. The blouse is quite short, but the pattern can be adjusted in length. The skirt is a self-drafted half-circle skirt. #soishowoff #handmade #sewing

DE ⬇️ Here comes by beloved Bonnie blouse by @sewoveritlondon and of course I am entering it for the #SewAprilBlouse25 challenge by @cloth_edit and @sewn_on_the_tyne ☺️ I made a Bonnie dress version in cotton recently but I like the blouse in this dreamy viscose by @lisetailor even better. Admittedly sewing the pleats in a viscose fabric was more challenging than with cotton. I lengthened my Bonnie a little bit as I am very tall but made no mods otherwise. I also succeeded in choosing a fabric with less of a print this time so the pleats are actually visible, yay! 😆 I love the retro style of this pattern, the little puffy sleeves, the collar, the waistband... just everything about it! I think the fabric is a perfect match, the colours and print are so beautiful. And the print works really well with the pleats, it almost stayed intact. So happy with this! Nachdem ich mein Bonnie Kleid von @sewoveritlondon genäht hatte waren noch ein paar Reste von dem Kleiderstoff übrig, die ich unbedingt für eine passende Tasche nutzen wollte. Ich brauchte tatsächlich einen neuen Rucksack und Erfurt steht seit seinem Erscheinen auf meiner Liste. Zu Katjas Schnitten muss ich wohl nichts sagen - die sind einfach super und funktionieren, haben schöne Details und die Anleitungen lassen absolut keine Fragen offen. Ich habe die größere Größe genäht, die finde ich perfekt. Am besten gefällt mir das schöne aufgesetzte RV-Fach vorne und die selbst genähten Träger. I had some leftover scraps of this amazing @libertyfabrics which I definitely wanted to use. I did need a new backpack and Erfurt by @uni_kati had been on my list since it was published. The patterns and instructions by @uni_kati are immaculate. Erfurt comes in two sizes, I went for the bigger one which I think is perfect. I love the little zipper pocket on the front and the selfmade straps. I have made another @sewoveritlondon Bonnie blouse. This is another hack of the blouse - I modified the sleeves to make them long by merging it with the Pussy bow pattern. I also lengthened the blouse as that's how I prefer it. Finally, I made the collar rounder and narrower. I also decided to make it with the hidden button placket. The fabric is a navy blue cotton dobby from @dalston.mill.fabrics (it looks a little lighter in the picture). This is the Rhea Tiered Sundress, a free pattern from Fabric Store I made in linen that a friend gave me. I’d heard that it had come up a bit big for other people so before I attached the facing I tried it on and yep, it was the same for me too. I had to take the seams in about 1cm and then adjust the facing to fit which wasn’t too difficult. Just make sure you keep trying things on as you go along. This is actually the first fitted bodice I’ve sewn. I’d made a few cropped blouses and wanted a dress I could wear them over rather than a skirt. Here I’m wearing it with my #soibonnieblouse and a self drafted wrap top. This is the @sewoveritlondon #soibonnieblouse which has been on my #makenine list for three years in a row! I love the vintage feel with the Peter Pan collar and pleats down the front but never seemed to have the right fabric, so now I’ve finally made it in a lovely remnant from a previous project. I graded between a size 10 and 12 with no other adjustments and it fits nice. As the button placket is concealed I decided to use snaps instead which I think has worked really well. It took a bit of patience to get my viscose to sit nicely for the pleats but I’m happy with how they have come out. I wasn’t going to do a Make Nine this year as last year I only managed 4 of the 9 projects. With relocating I have less time and critically less space to sew, but then I realised that planning more is probably the solution. So here we go. 1. So here it is. I have finally managed to get around to photographing myself in my new Bonnie blouse from @sewoveritlondon. 🧵Although it is the Bonnie blouse, I did make changes to the pattern as the first one I made was too short for me (I took it in the sides and gave it to my daughter😆). I lengthened the bodice using another blouse I already own and also lengthened the sleeves using the Pussy bow blouse sleeve pattern. 🧵 I made the size 8 and as I had enough fabric, I decided to make the pleated version and I’m glad I did as the fabric is plain. 🧵As for the sleeves, I decided to add an elastic to it rather than a cuff. 🧵 The fabric I used is an ivory cotton dobby which I bought from @sewmesunshine.uk. It’s a little sheer but it’s ok for a top. 🧵 I made it in September as a little sewing challenge between me and @payneloriann. Here are a couple more pictures of my Bonnie Blouse Dress which will hopefully give you a better look at some of the details. The viscose fabric from @bobbinsandbolts really is lovely to wear. It's very soft and breathable, although it is quite light weight it also presses easily so achieving crisp pleats and tucks the you can see here over the front was very easy. I will definitely make another Bonnie, although will probably shorten the bodice a little more as my stomach tends to bloat quite a bit due to my IBS and other conditions, and having a higher waist would allow for it without drawing attention to it! This weekend though my focus is to recover from our week away and (if I have the energy) will be on finishing of my Rowan knits Dawn Cardigan and toileing my Mila Dungarees by Tilly and the Buttons. What's this, I actually finished a project? 2025 seems to have been a year of starting a thing and not finishing it. So I think I started this in ...April? And it feels good to finish it in August. DE ⬇️ #soibonniedress More pics of my beloved Bonnie dress! I’ve had this @libertylondon fabric „Tapestry“ from @s.t.r.a.g.i.e.r in my stash for quite a while. I love it so much! The delicate print reminds me of porcelain. No pattern was good enough for it, but then I had this idea to pair it with the @sewoveritlondon Bonnie pattern. I lengthened the sleeves (as it’s still quite cold outside) and added a simple cuff. I also added piping to the collar and gave it more of a slightly rounded shape. And then I removed the elastic tunnel in the waist because I did not like how it looked on me and added tie bands instead for a more fitted look. Also shortened the skirt a little. I am very happy with how it turned out. My only regret is that the front pleats are barely visible because of the print. (Pic 2) But I am on my second Bonnie already and hope to do better this time. ❤️ DE Hier gibts jetzt alles über mein Bonnie Kleid. Ich lieb den Stoff total, er hat so ein schönes zartes Porzellanmuster und kein Schnitt kam mir gut genug für ihn vor. Aber dann hatte ich die Idee, eine Bonnie von @sewoveritlondon draus zu machen. Ich habe die Ärmel auf 3/4 verlängert (ist ja noch kalt draußen) und eine einfache Manschette dran gemacht. Dann kam noch Paspel an den Kragen, den ich ganz leicht abgerundet habe. Und dann hab ich noch den Gummizug aus der Taille wieder rausgemacht, weil ich das an mir nicht so mochte. Stattdessen gabs Bindebänder in die Taille und den Rock habe ich etwas gekürzt. Ich liebs sehr! Das einzig dämliche ist, dass man aufgrund des Drucks die Biesen am Vorderteil kaum sieht. EN ⬇️ So ihr Lieben, hier ist mein Rucksack Erfurt von @uni_kati . Nachdem ich mein Bonnie Kleid von @sewoveritlondon genäht hatte waren noch ein paar Reste von dem Kleiderstoff übrig, die ich unbedingt für eine passende Tasche nutzen wollte. Ich brauchte tatsächlich einen neuen Rucksack und Erfurt steht seit seinem Erscheinen auf meiner Liste. Zu Katjas Schnitten muss ich wohl nichts sagen - die sind einfach super und funktionieren, haben schöne Details und die Anleitungen lassen absolut keine Fragen offen. Ich habe die größere Größe genäht, die finde ich perfekt. Am besten gefällt mir das schöne aufgesetzte RV-Fach vorne und die selbst genähten Träger. I had some leftover scraps of this amazing @libertyfabrics which I definitely wanted to use. I did need a new backpack and Erfurt by @uni_kati had been on my list since it was published. The patterns and instructions by @uni_kati are immaculate. Erfurt comes in two sizes, I went for the bigger one which I think is perfect. I love the little zipper pocket on the front and the selfmade straps. I source my bagmaking material @spreefee.bagmaking.supplies - they stock everything you may need for bagmaking in really good quality. ☺️ I love my backpack and I got so many compliments for it which made me very happy. I've recently been sharing quite a lot of knitting makes but I have also been sewing a few things. These are 2 of my latest sewing makes, two variations of the Bonnie dress by @sewoveritlondon. The first one is made in a linen viscose mix from @rainbowfabrickilburn the second one is in a William Morris print on cotton poplin fabric from the Victoria and Albert Museum. Both dresses have long sleeves made with the pussy bow blouse sleeve pattern. I have also used the Georgie skirt pattern for both and decided to add pockets. On my solid dress I decided to make a ruffle instead of the collar. I made size 8 in both and used about 2 metres of fabric for each. The light was terrible yesterday with the thunderstorms⛈ we’re having at the moment, but I have no opportunity to take daylight photos before the weekend so here we go, my Bonnie dress🌸👗🌼. Having made the blouse before I had no issues with this dress, even managed to get the button placket on the right side this time😅. Everything is according to the pattern, only alteration I did was to shorten the skirt by approximately 15 cm. Feeling pretty confident I even French seamed🪡🇫🇷 everything except the channel for the elastic at the waist, and bottom hem. It’s pretty satisfying seeing the inside looking so neat🤩. I like the dress, but something about it gives me the frumpy vibes👵🏼. I think perhaps this dress and fabric wasn’t meant for each other after all. I think the fabric fight the dress for the attention🥊. Starting with the positives, here are two recent sews that went really well #newlook6680 is a knit mock wrap dress which has the wrapover top and sleeve pieces in one. I made version B which has the wrapover at the back as well as at the front in viscose jersey. I made a mash up of the #soipennydress with the skirt from #soibonniedress from a 1.6m remnant, so there wasn't enough fabric for the circle skirt. Now swipe to see two other sews where I had "issues". Both are first time makes for these patterns so perhaps they are just my wearable toiles! The #deeranddoeopium pattern was a Christmas present from Rosie. I used a lovely Italian wool blend coating fabric from @jennystitchesfabrics but I went wrong somehow on the collar and it's not lying properly. I have steamed and pressed and pulled it when I should have unpicked it and had another try. I love the pocket details and the magnetic snap closures, so I will definitely be making it again. And I made a maxi length #newlook6692 in viscose and I had to sew and resew the bodice over and again to get a better fit. It's still not great and some seams are a bit lumpy and wobbly as a result of me trying to make adjustments without unpicking it all. I also tried a tip I saw about adding boning to a square neckline to stop gaping but I don't think it has worked that well with this fabric. #isew #dressmaking #handmadewardrobe #sewistsofinstagram #patternhacking

Here are a couple more pictures of my Bonnie Blouse Dress which will hopefully give you a better look at some of the details. The viscose fabric from @bobbinsandbolts really is lovely to wear. It's very soft and breathable, although it is quite light weight it also presses easily so achieving crisp pleats and tucks the you can see here over the front was very easy. I will definitely make another Bonnie, although will probably shorten the bodice a little more as my stomach tends to bloat quite a bit due to my IBS and other conditions, and having a higher waist would allow for it without drawing attention to it! This weekend though my focus is to recover from our week away and (if I have the energy) will be on finishing of my Rowan knits Dawn Cardigan and toileing my Mila Dungarees by Tilly and the Buttons.
