Day 26 of Me Made May: A two-fer for Bank Holiday Monday. The jacket is a #soisylviarobe in in an XL (now available up to size 30) made from some mystery twill (Spice? Viscose? Brain falls out…) from Bawn Textiles. A couple of years old, now. The pink top is made out of an old (dyed) round tablecloth. No pattern, I just made the neckline first, popped it on, snipped away two rectangular sections and suddenly it was the shape of a top. Sleeves are sewn as normal, sides sewn kaftan style with the seam on the outside. Off to the in-laws and AUNTIE SOOS today. 💐👰🏼‍♀️🧵 Something Blue 🧵👰🏼‍♀️💐 I had the honour of being my sister's Maid of Honour for her beautiful wedding a few weeks ago! We went through the same traditions of: 💙 Something old (our Grandmas pearls), 💙 Something new (the beautiful dress), 💙 Something borrowed (our Granddad's ring was attached to the bouquet) and 💙 Something blue (Natalie's lovely shoes). I also wanted to add something and thought a special piece to her wardrobe would be perfect. Something that she could wear at some point during the day, such as getting ready, and wear again and again and be reminded of her wedding. I found this beautiful blue floral cotton lawn @fabricsatthefentshop and made a @sewoveritlondon Sylvia Robe. I've made a couple of these as gifts and they are a great piece to add to any wardrobe and be easily worn with dresses or jeans. I was so happy with how the robe turned out and slightly jealous that I don't have one 😉 I was made up when Natalie decided to wear it at her evening reception and @maisey_the_wondermouse captured these beautiful photos! I wanted something comfortable so opted for my rtw navy work trousers, a simple white cami and paired it with this lovely @SewOverItLondon Sylvia Robe. This robe has been in my wardrobe for a few years and is perfect for pairing with jeans and a cami on spring and cooler summer days. I was really pleased with how well it went with my work trousers. It is impossible to take photographs of a new make in this heat. However, I was keen to document this beauty because it may be a week or two before I can see anything else. So here I am with wet hair and no make up. This is a #soisylviarobe in an XL (old version pattern, now available up to a size 30) long version with double-width neckband and made up pockets. The beautiful Ankara fabric is from @africanfabricsseller and if you haven’t seen their wonderful videos you should check them out: clear and inspiring descriptions of wonderful patterns and fabrics. I encountered this fabric in a video where it was suggested the vase of flowers motif might make a good back to a robe, and this was not wrong! The fabric is soft and 100% cotton and that’s good because nothing else is possible in such heat. Day 15 of Me Made May: I attended a talk during last year’s #completelycustomfestival given by @extraordinarystylebylaura and part of the discussion was about not saving clothes in beautiful fabrics for ‘best’, but enjoying them whatever you’re doing. I remember someone in the chat saying that she gardened wearing a favourite cashmere jumper, and so - knowing I’d be cleaning out a pond and planting a cherry tree after taking Ivor to nursery - I wore a #soisylviarobe over my #mmharlene dungarees. And it did feel good! I love the colours (especially the jade green) of the @fabricgodmother fabric, which has a 1930s skiiing print on it. Me Made May day 10 - today I’m wearing one of my oldest and most worn makes. I made this @sewoveritlondon Sylvia robe back in 2019 when I really started getting into dressmaking. The fabric is a cheap viscose that I bought online. I don’t wear most of the stuff I made then because either it doesn’t fit well, I used the wrong fabric or it’s badly made. But this top is still going strong!

This robe was made from some rayon I found in the thrift store recently. When I found it I knew instantly what I was going to make with it! It is a burgundy colour with cream colour flowers throughout. The flowy-ness of the fabric and the floral pattern screamed out : kimono-style robe to me, so I bought it and went to work finding the right sewing pattern for the idea I had in mind. I ended up choosing the Sew Over It Sylvia Robe pattern with the added pockets, waist loops and waist strap. It was a relatively quick sew. I don't often sew with rayon, so I found it a bit trickier to handle, especially a project this size. Made this @sewoveritlondon #soisylviarobe for a friend last week. This is one of my favourite patterns, I've used it several times. The fabric is a really lovely viscose crepe, a deadstock House of Foxy print from @fabworksmillshop As this was a gift, I went all out with the finishing and even slip-stitched the neckline facing by hand (I usually ignore any instructions for hand-sewing and just bodge it on the machine). The only mods I made were to shorten the sleeves by about 3 inches.

July 2020, garments #10, #11 and #12 This is my french seam practice project. It was also my first time making something on the bias. I accept it is a bit matchy matchy but in the short term I don't care and once I get to grips with knits I'm planning to do a grey jersey top and leggings so I can mix and match and then I'll have two sets of pyjamas to go with my dressing gown. 😊 All patterns from @sewoveritlondon. Top is #soialderleytop a bias cut top , shorts are #soiultimatepyjamas both from #soistitchschool, though I did french seams in the shorts and attached the waistband differently to avoid any raw edges. #memademay day 31 I’m wearing my favourite dress I’ve made to date which is my #soiheididress with my new #soisylviarobe that I made from a table cloth. Living my best 70s rock star life 🌼🤘🏼 I’ve made it to the end! I really was hoping my posing would have improved and I would be looking (and feeling) less awkward in my pictures by this point but I think I’m going to need longer for that to change!
