#fangirlalert , I’ve just found out that my favourite fabric shop @sewanonymousofficial and the company that inspired me to start sewing vintage style clothes @sewoverit are collaborating! More than 8 years ago, Sew over it and @lisacomfort drew me into their shop in Islington for a beginners course, I made a bag and cushion cover, I signed up immediately for the beginners circle skirt course and after that I was hooked. I have almost all of their patterns which are among some of the most user friendly I have found and I often go back to them over and over. My favourite is probably the #soivintageshirtdress which was one of my first makes from a true 70s deadstock fabric. I still wear it now. More recently I made a beautiful #soipennydress in a gorgeous dashwood fabric I bought at Sew Anonymous. Now I make clothes for my babies from the @poppyandjazz range which go up to age 7 now I think. I’m thrilled with this and can’t wait to see where it goes. Vintage shirt dress by @sewoveritlondon. Love this in my @libertyfabrics poplin. Makes it really crisp and neat. #soivintageshirtdress The fabric is the blue colourway version of the Liberty floor plans - perfect for my job and I got a lot of comments wearing it in the office last week. Buttons are also from Liberty. A great make, no modifications although I wish I added pockets! Love Sew Over It patterns, great instructions and they always seem to fit really well. (Photos are slightly crumpled - it was so hot last week when I made it that I couldn’t bear to do a final iron. Thought it looked ok till I saw the photos 😬😬)

Today I wanted to share one of my new(ish) makes my cosy autumn @sewoveritlondon Vintage Shirt Dress. I made my shirt dress in a beautiful @artgalleryfabrics brushed cotton from @catkinandscraps. (There are far too many lovely fabrics on Catkin and Scraps website!) I absolutely love it! The fabric is so soft and cosy to wear and adds that extra level of warmth on those January days. I was influenced by the lovely Lisa Comfort in one of her 2015 Vlogs as she made the most beautiful Vintage Shirt Dress in a gorgeous deep pink floral brushed cotton. It's been on my wish list for a long time to make myself one and I'm so happy that I finally have! I wore this to the office on Tuesday and it was so comfortable. Definitely a secret pyjama style make! I finally got around to making a sleeved version of the shirt dress and I am obsessed! Those turn up 3/4 length sleeves 😍 I used some bright pink buttons to add a pop of colour to the dress. I was slightly worried that the colour of the dress would wash me out, but I don't think it does ☺️ I've paired it here with back tights, brown boots and a deep burgundy belt. I am in the office today in one of my new makes that I finished over Christmas! I can't wait to share that one with you! Waaaay too early to pose in this but I’m ready when Christmas comes! (I will post me wearing it when the time comes). It’s a few years since I made a ‘Christmas dress’ (the last one was out of an old table cloth) but when I saw this #liberty cotton for £10 a metre in @doughtysonline, it seemed rude not to buy a couple of metres. With a little juggling around and some imperfect pattern matching, I squeezed this #soivintageshirtdress out. I couldn’t make my mind up on the buttons but eventually snipped these off an old blouse which I never wear. It’s far from perfect, but as a fun #Christmas outfit, it’ll be perfect. I needed to free up Valerie so I can work on my daughter's dress, and this dress for me was so nearly complete it took me minutes to have it finished, pressed, and ready to wear! I keep Valerie at my daughter's measurements, as I generally fit from afar. Consequently, my own dresses look a bit big when I photograph them on Valerie! This is a wearable toile of Sew Over It's 'Vintage Shirtdress'. I added inseam pockets (of course!). Plus a self fabric belt to nip it in a bit more at the waist. I lengthened the bodice my usual ¾", but the waist is still way too high! I've added another 1¼" to the pattern for next time. I'm planning a long sleeved version for winter, plus I think I'll draft a short sleeve for autumn. The fabric was a John Lewis sale 'happy find' - a beautifully soft, cotton chambray. Buttons are vintage shell, and a charity shop 'happy find'! I used a lightweight interfacing from Vlieseline. I love the bodice pleats that continue through into the skirt, and the softly rounded colour. 🐈🧵 Cat Vintage Shirt Dress 🧵🐈‍⬛ Wearing one of my favourite patterns today and I realised that I have never shared this version on my grid! This is a lovely cotton @SewOverItLondon Vintage Shirt Dress made with a lovely white cat and floral cotton. I made this a few years ago and it's a dress I often pick out for family get togethers and work days in the office. I find the Vintage Shirt Dress really comfortable to wear and you can layer it really easily with a cardigan (either long or short) and I always pair it with a belt. I made a couple of Vintage Shirt Dresses for Christmas and I want to add another to my wardrobe, but think I will make a sleeved version next. I am definitely going to toile the sleeved version first as I want to make sure there is a comfortable fit across my back. I remember making a sleeved Eve Dress a few years ago and struggled with the fit across the shoulders. It put me off making sleeved versions of garments, but I really want to figure out these fitting issues and how to resolve them. I don't really make resolutions, but this year I do want to try and make my garments fit better and figure out fitting issues. I've got several good fitting books, access to Sew Over It's Stitch School and all the tutorials on YouTube so I am going to make the most of it! Today though I hope to finish my wool Amelia Jacket and enjoy the start of the Six Nations! I recently finished my third Sew Over It Vintage Shirt Dress, and the only one that currently fits. My last ones were made several years ago and I tried but cant fit into them anymore. I shortened the sleeve length and made one more dart at the back waist. But the rest are per the original pattern. The dress still has some room and is not tightly fitted, just how I like it these days.. relaxed fit. Have a lovely Easter weekend and stay cool (it’s really hot today in Singapore!) As it was cold and icy I was tempted to wear black jeans and a warm jumper, but I was attending an event and needed to dress up a little. The Saturday before the trip, the group text was talking about our DisneyBounds when I had such a ✨clear vision✨ of the dress I could make (and would wear again and again) for a Peggy Carter Bound. I quickly found a pattern online, checked my fabric stash and found the perfect fabric, checked to make sure I knew where my SSR pins were, and got to work. For the uninitiated, DisneyBounds is the lightest version of a costume — it’s wearing an outfit inspired by a character that isn’t a full blown costume, as the Disney Parks don’t allow adults to be in full costume. The dress turned out perfectly. It was one of those makes where I wasn’t sure how it was going to actually turn out. The pattern was from a company I knew of but had never used, the fabric was stiffer than the recommended fabric type, and I knew from the size chart that I would need to make some alternations and mods. I had one shot to get it right and it worked. And, what was even more magical for me, is that folks in the park recognized the Bound on sight! Peggy isn’t a ~mainstream Marvel character these days, so I assumed it would go under the radar… and I was so, so pleased to be wrong. 😊 Swipe to the end for the inspo outfit. 🧵Sewing Details🧵 The pattern is the #SOIVintageShirtDress from @sewoveritlondon in an olive green cotton twill. 🐾🎄 Christmas Vintage Shirt Dress 🎄🐾 I really love my new @SewOverIrLondon Christmas Vintage Shirt Dress. I had a lovely long weekend last week where I got through a couple of sewing projects and this was one of them. This pattern is a favourite of mine and I have quite a few in my wardrobe, but I've not made one for a while. The fabric is from @fleur.et.ours and is a lovely navy Christmas print cotton. The fabric is actually the same print as a pair of M&S pyjamas I bought a few years ago and I was made up to be able to have some fabric of my own! I made a size 10 for this version, which is a size up from the others I have made. If turned out being a bit too big in the waist, but a belt soon fixed that! I used some lovely green buttons from my vintage button collection and used some lovely cat print bias binding for the armholes. The only issue I have found when wearing these dresses (especially in cotton) in the past is that if I'm wearing a long coat and my work backpack the skirt can rise and move around a lot. I decided to try and add a underskirt using some lining fabric. I wore the dress to work on Tuesday and didn't have any issues! Perfect! The pattern doesn't come with a lining, but it's actually surprisingly easy to add a skirt lining! I really like wearing this dress with my thrifted mustard cardigan I picked up from Vinted a few weeks ago. I think this could be a contender for a Boxing Day party outfit! My Sew Over It Vintage Shirt Dress is complete 💙 • I absolutely love the 1940s style. I feel like it's an era of fashion I'm most at home in. I actually attempted this pattern about 8 years ago, and my skill set at the time really let me down, and I struggled to make sense of the pattern instructions. It was nice to revisit the pattern after all this time, and I'm so glad I did. • Fabric is a beautiful dobby spot, 100% cotton that I picked up from @craftybaba. It's quite lightweight (and a little sheer) and has the perfect level of swoosh for this dress. I plan to wear this for an upcoming wedding reception this week, and I'm excited to take it out for a spin. • Buttons were created using a self covered buttons kit. It's a little fiddly but quite good fun. • I made the size 8 and added length to the bodice and skirt. The pattern doesn't come with pockets, and I decided not to add them (shocking, I know!!). Sooo...it has been a while. I have been sewing, I've just not much felt like taking pictures, but I was feeling a little brave at the weekend and decided to take a few. I then needed to sit down for the rest of the weekend to recover! But it does mean I have a few projects to share now. First up is this dress that has taken me an age to actually get to make, hut I love it. I can't wait for the weather to warm up/the wind calm down/get some colour on my legs so I can wear it. This is a @sewoverit #vintageshirtdress This is an old TNT pattern for me, but due to weight fluctuations, I did need to trace off a new size and do my usual fba this time...and that meant re-printing the pattern, as I'd just cut and altered the printed version last time (not like me!) so that delayed things a bit. Then other projects became more time sensitive But anyways, this is made with a cotton poplin from an old @sewhayleyjane box, but I am trying to work through my deep stash right now. The reason this has stayed in my stash so long is because I kept changing my mind about what to do with it, but just decided to not overthink and go with it this time. There was just enough fabric to cut out the dress so pockets were cut from some fabric from my stash and I used some bias binding from my stash to finish the hem and armscyes. The Pineapple buttons were also from my stash. I didn't have to buy any supplies for this dress and I love that about it There isn't much to say about this pattern as I've made it a few times, but this was the best collar finish I've managed and I'm so proud of myself....helps to double check the seam allowance 🤦‍♀️ I would have liked to make it a bit longer (scary knees!) but I can live with as it is. ☃️⭐ Robin Vintage Shirt Dress ⭐☃️ Why have one @SewOverItLondon Christmas Vintage Shirt Dress when you can have two?! This version is made using a beautiful robin print fabric from @fabricsatthefentshop that I just couldn't resist! I also lined this version with white lining fabric as I was worried tights would show through just the white dress. The fabric is so soft against the skin and just lovely to wear! As with my other version I made a size 10 and found it a little big in the waist, but a belt helps and room in a Christmas dress is never a bad thing 😉 I paired my dress with maroon tights, Vinted mustard cardigan and a maroon belt. I think all these pops of colour reflect the little robin pattern. I used some lovely buttons my sister bought me the birthday I was bought my first sewing machine. They are lovely wodden floral buttons. This is definitely a contender for Christmas Day or Christmas Eve! Just catching up with Christmas Sewing Bee, all my presents are wrapped and I have a quiet evening of Christmas films and hand sewing quilt hexagons planned! @sewoveritlondon Vintage Shirt Dress 💫 This dress has been the longest process but a huge learning curve and now it’s finished I do really like it! 💫I made no alterations originally for length etc but had to alter massively once I had sewn it up! I started sewing this at the beginning of the year and cut to my measurements but my measurements changed quite a lot during the actual production of the dress so once it had finished I had to do a few bust and waist alterations and the hem also sat really heavy at the bottom so had to take some material out of either side of the bottom of the dress so the weight didn’t pull the dress down at either side. 💫 The interfacing I used down the front was also slightly too heavy for the fabric so this then doesnt sit how I would want it to! 💫 Now it’s done I do really like it but off to put some leggings on with it today as I’m freezing! 🥶 #soivintageshirtdress #tallgirlsewing #tallgirlsewingproblems #tallgirlsewist #handmadewardrobe #sewoverit

Thought I’d keep the grid festively red and green so snapped myself in my me-made green polka dot dress this morning. The bodice is taken from the @sewoverit #vintageshirtdress and I drafted a skirt to add to it without the button down front. It’s in a lovely warm stretchy green polka dot fabric from @sewmesomething. I wanted an easy to pull on, comfy day dress that I can also swing dance around the kitchen in and this ticks all the boxes. Now to get that fire lit and get the Christmassy tunes on. Wishing everyone a very happy, peaceful Christmas. So grateful to have celebrated with my extended family yesterday. Six years after being given six months to live, my amazing dad is still with us. 🇬🇧👇🏻 #memademay dag 15: hold på hat og synål, for her kommer min ældste håndlavede kjole. Min #soivintageshirtdress blev syet i 2016 (!!) og er altså 9 år gammel 🤯 Den har været inde og ude af dvale af et par omgange, da min krop har forandret sig en del igennem tre graviditeter og efterfødselsforløb. It was made in 2016 and have been in and out of rotation because my body has changed through three pregnancies and post partum periods. I did line the skirt as I was a little worried that my tights would stand out against the cream cotton. It's so comfortable to wear and the cotton is so soft. 🎄🧵 Christmas Sew Over It Shirt Dress🧵🎄 It was my work Christmas get together last week and I made a new Christmas dress for the occasion! I made a @sewoveritlondon sleeved Vintage Shirt Dress in a beautiful dark teal cotton with a Christmas Peter Rabbit print. The sleeved version of the shirt dress has been a favourite pattern of mine this year and I knew I wanted to add a Christmas version to my wardrobe. The Christmas print is a very cute Beatrix Potter print with Peter Rabbit and friends print. I really like how you can play with printed fabric and have a dress that fits into your everyday, but also your work wardrobe! I think this one will have to get worn in the office next week. I wore the dress with some black tights, brown ankle boots and a warm wool coat to keep the cold away. I felt stylish l, Christmassy and comfortable! I found the fabric a dream to work with and it was lovely and soft to wear. I love this fabric and you may have seen me share my Sagebrush Top made in the same fabric. I wore the dress with black tights, black belt with pearl details and brown lace up ankle boots. I should have probably worn a plain jacket with the dress print being so fun and bold, but I don't wear this jacket enough! Week 1 of #memademay2024 : My #vintageshirtdress #soivintageshirtdress is looking a bit worn. I have started a new one some time ago, maye I should finish it soon? #myscardigan is a good match - that lovely green goes with so many of my dresses 💖 I finally finished a very old WIP: the crochet took ages as it hurts my hands and I need to concentrate more when crocheting than knitting. Sewing a lining was easyer and a quick project. Hope to get some use out of this! We had some very lovely summery days, and I took out my #garntopiasinglet . The oldest #margaerycardigan on top - this is a bit worn too now, but still a big fave 💖 I made the yellow #misurinatee last year, and I have tried to wear it a few times, but I feel like I would get more wear out of a thinner, less oversized version. I put this up for sale yesterday, and it already sold 😍 I also sold lots of fabrics this week, on the fb group #stoffbitene . So much easier to get rid of things if they are going to a good home 😁😆

🔸Sew Over it Vintage Shirt Dress🔸 When I say I’ve been keeping this fabric for the right occasion I really mean it! AGES ago I bought 2m of this @riflepaperco “Cities” cotton lawn - I was drawn to it as it had the Sydney Opera house printed on it which reminded me of a past holiday I loved so much! I decided I’d keep it and make a dress for when I could go back in the future - and here it is! I made the @sewoveritlondon vintage shirt dress in a size 8 based on finished measurements and it was almost a perfect fit! The only adjustment I needed was on the sleeves (shortened) and armpits - in reality I think if I had cut at the sleeveless option line this would have been perfect for me. This sweater came out even better than I’d hoped and turned into the perfect #sewyourstash project! ✂️🪡🧵 I’ve had this gorgeous openwork knit sweater fabric from @pretty_mercerie in my stash for almost two years. I fell in love with the fabric as soon as I saw it, but I could not decide what I wanted to make with it. After about a year in the stash, I settled on the idea of a wrap sweater. And then I spent another year trying to find the perfect wrap sweater pattern. Nothing was *quite* right for the look I had in my head. Eventually I came across a wrap top made using McCalls 7969 dress pattern. It was the closest thing I’d seen to what I was envisioning and an idea was born! 💡 I searched through my pattern stash and found a couple of Big 5 wrap dress patterns that could have worked with some modifications. And then I remembered that I’ve had the SOI Heidi Dress pattern for years and never made it. I even had the PDF pattern already printed out! I looked over the pattern and realized that the bodice was the exact shape I was going for. A perfect match! Coming in just under the wire, this project is also my @the_makerstudio #projectsewit garment for February’s theme: the sweater. Fabric: openwork sweater knit from @pretty_mercerie. 🌼 Me Made May Plans 🌼 I planned my week yesterday and decided I would also plan what I was going to wear. I don't really have the time or space to photograph a dress each day.
