This is my newest Doris Dress, a pattern by Sew Over It. I've retraced in a size 20 so bodice fitting issues I previously put right, have now reappeared. Never mind, there will be more! It's totally wearable and made in a pretty viscose bought for me at Christmas with strict instructions to make a Doris!

[ENG] Can anyone else believe it’s the end of August already? Where has the time gone? I’m frantically trying to finish my dissertation and along with everything else there’s not much time to sew. But I still have this #SOIDorisDress I made a few months ago that I haven’t shown you yet. I took it with me to Portugal and my friend took these pretty pictures with the gorgeous azulejos. It’s my second Doris and like with the first, I skipped the side zip and the buttons are just sewn on, no buttonholes, but I can get it over my head just fine (you cinch it at the back with ties). [CZ] Taky nechápete, že už je konec srpna? Kam ten čas letí? Já jsem v trochu hysterickém módu, jak se snažím dokončit disertaci, a se vším ostatním moc času na šití nezbývá. Ale mám tu v zásobě tyhle šaty Doris od @sewoveritlondon , co jsem šila před pár měsíci a v Portugalsku mě v nich kamarádka vyfotila u krásných kachliček. Podle střihu jsem šila už podruhé. Today’s #tonysspiritweek theme is Favorite Films - a movie that became a musical. And I went with Matilda! We just finished our production of Matilda, Jr. and I modeled Miss. Honey’s costume after a dress of my own, which you see here (for those new to my page from this challenge, I design and make costumes for the musicals/productions at the school where I teach - you can see more of that @mckinleycostumes ). The pattern is the @sewoveritlondon Doris Dress. I used the pattern (in different fabric) to make Miss. Honey’s main costume (I’ll put some pictures of that in my stories). The set has been taken down at this point but I was able to pose next to a remaining stack of books set piece (all fittingly Roald Dahl books). Day 7 of Me Made May 2022 We celebrated Mother’s Day today instead of tomorrow as everyone seems to have things on the go tomorrow. This is a first time out for my new Doris Dress. I finished it about a week ago, but haven’t posted as #MeMadeMay overtook my feed. It is appropriate for Mother’s Day, I bought it because the way the flowers were drawn reminded me of the way my daughters use to draw flowers when they were younger. Modifications on this one, I added pockets! I used the pocket from the Hinterland Dress and extended it to anchor into the waist to reduce the pull on the thin fabric. Gotta have pockets! 💐🧵 Sew Over It Doris Dress 🧵💐 It may be a bit early to be sewing for the summer, but I've had the @sewoveritlondon Doris Dress on my 'to sew list' for a long time and I am sewing some summer makes earlier this year so I can have some new pieces for my honeymoon! I've seen this beautiful viscose challis pop up across my social media for a number of years now and I am really pleased to have it in my wardrobe! The fabric has a beautiful drape and is so soft against the skin. I found it really easy to work with, but made sure to let the fabric hang for a few days. I think the panelled skirt meant that the hem did drop quite a bit and I needed to take longer than I expected to sort it. Hemming is not my favourite task at all! I may need to cut off a few cms and hem again as it isn't my neatest work! I used some green vintage buttons from my collection for the bodice. I sewed the buttons directly onto the bodice front as I am able to get the dress on and off without the need to open the bodice. This pattern has a side zip, which isn't my favourite closure, but this one turned out really well! This is my first Doris Dress and certainly won't be my last! I can see the dress being perfect for a summer's day as it is not overly fitted. I made a straight size 10 and found that there was still some room in the waist, which is reduced by the waist ties. I've got some lovely navy bird print peachskin fabric set aside that I will make myself another Doris Dress! I've got a week off in March and plan to paint the kitchen, but also sew up some makes! This is my new Tammy Handmade Cara Cardigan. I made it from the same 2m length of ponte roma as my Blackwood Cardigan in my previous post. The only compromise was to piece the front band. It's lovely and casual. I love the informal style of this one. 😊 I had a nightmare with the buttonholes with shredding thread etc and had to undo them several times. Hence no buttons this time.

This is my new Marlo Sweater by TrueBias . I sized down to a 14 to get the fit I wanted which is perfect but wouldn't be comfortable if I buttoned it up. I never button up a cardi anyway so it's exactly what I wanted. The fabric is a Ponte Roma from legend textiles . Lovely and soft and a bargain too. Worn here with my Doris Dress by sewoverit. [EN] Last weekend the weather was so nice it was time to pull out a pretty spring dress like this @sewoveritlondon #SOIDorisDress made out of a pretty @ladymcelroyfabrics linen-look viscose I got ages ago from @stitchybee.co.uk In fact, I’ve made this dress a few years ago. It’s a great versatile day dress and despite being a few sizes too big for me now, the ties at the back mean I can kind of create a little wrap at the back and tie them at the front. Obviously the fit is not as good as it would be if it was my size, but it’s still workable for the lazy sewist like me. I hate altering things! Do you feel the same? … [CZ] O víkendu bylo tak krásně, že jsem musela vytáhnout nějaké jarní šaty. Sáhla jsem po šatech Doris od #SewOverIt ušitých z viskózy od #LadyMcElroyFabrics které jsem šila už dávno. Ale až teď mi skvělý @nacodoberlina udělal tyhle boží fotky na jednom z mých nejoblíbenějších míst v Budějcích. Střih je to skvělý a hodí se na lecjakou příležitost. I když jsou teď šaty o pár velikostí větší, než bych potřebovala, tak se nosit v pohodě dají - mají vzadu vázačku, tak tam prostě zadní díl trochu překřížím a zavážu na mašli vepředu. Samozřejmě nepadnou tak dobře, jako kdyby to byla moje velikost, ale myslím, že to tolik nevadí. Zkrátka ideální řešení pro lípou švadlenu, já velmi nerada upravuju už hotové věci! Máte to stejně?

Look at that, a real summer dress day! This is the wearable toile for the blue dress in my last post (so another @cashmerette Upton bodice and @sewoveritlondon Doris skirt) but I actually only finished this one yesterday because time is merely a suggestion. I haven’t worn this kind of thing in years so right now it feels a bit strange, but I’m pleased with how it looks and feels on me. This new make has been waiting all May so far for an outing! #MeMadeMay2022 day 16 is my brand new swooshy @sewoveritlondon Doris dress. Swipe for swooshes and stags! Love how this turned out, I feel quite dainty in it and the leaves and flowers make it feel very spring-like to me despite the black background. Plus the stags make me think of lovely long walks in Richmond Park. It has added pockets, which extend up to the waistline thanks to the Princess seams so they don't distort the skirt too much. I made a size 18 and lengthened the bodice an inch thinking I could get away with it on a dolman shape... I really should have done an FBA but I can just about live with it. There are some stitches between the top few buttons for extra security! Lesson learned. The dress was squeezed out of 3m, which is a surprise as I usually find that SOI patterns overestimate fabric requirements (2.7m) but apparently the lengthened bodice and added pockets really stretched possibilities! The @ladymcelroyfabrics "majestic stag" crepe is very swooshy and was easy to work with. Despite the fact its polyester, it feels lovely and soft without feeling plasticky I lined the bodice in some scrap viscose from another project, which will hopefully help with the hothouse effect! #soishowoff #soidorisdress #sewing #gothsewing #sewingaltfashion #alternativesewing #CurvySewing #instasew #londonsews #memade #handmadewardrobe

Yesterday we went to the first family wedding in ages, and I made a new dress! I had a very specific vibe in mind which was a bit different from my usual style, and I ended up putting together this vivid blue floral viscose (from Walthamstow as usual), the princess seam version of the @cashmerette Upton bodice and the skirt from the @sewoveritlondon Doris dress. Originally I planned to have flutter sleeves but they hit at an odd place and gave me what I can only describe as an extended boob shelf, so I hacked most of the length off them. I also added my favourite side seam pockets, which kept my phone remarkably secure during a very enthusiastic wedding disco! It was a beautiful day and such a lovely wedding (they were SO HAPPY), so I’ve put a small photo dump from the day in here too. Está claro que el año pasado fue EL AÑO DE LA ROPA INTERIOR. Con 5 #nixiebriefs, 2 #blackbeautybra, 2 #jordybralette y alguna cosa más, se me llenó el cajón. Y se vienen más sujetadores, estense atentos. Los vestidos, no podía ser menos, tuvieron también su gran trozo de tarta (aunque en 2019 fue un porcentaje aún mayor). Me hizo gracia ver la escalerita que forma la distribución por meses en 2021. Muy diferente a las de 2020 y 2019. En mis gráficos va solo lo que cosí para mí. Lo que coso para otras personas o para la casa, no existe 😂 Y ya que estaba haciendo análisis, me puse a hacer la guía para el 2022. Llamalo #makenine2022, #9planescosturiles o #bingocosturil.
