This project was completely on a whim, but who doesn’t need a little pink in their life from time to time? 😂 This is my latest Heather dress, one of my tried-and-true patterns by @sewoveritlondon , and I love it! I made it in a leftover remnant of this dreamy viscose-blend double knit from @tissushemmers.fr . It’s thick, soft, squishy, and so cozy to wear. . I made my usual size 6 graded to a size 8 at the hips and I shortened the neckband about cm to prevent gaping (this fabric is super stretchy!). Since I’ve made this pattern so many times, it came together fast—just in time for a cozy Valentine’s Day working from home (and eating lots of chocolate 😋). . This afternoon’s Open Sewing Class was such a productive end to the week, with Hilder, Clare & Freya all making progress on their projects. Hilder continued with her dress, sewing the front panel that forms the collar & sewing it to the dress front. Then she very impressively sewed a petticoat in half an hour to add a warm layer in the chillier weather. She sewed lace to the hem & elastic into a channel at the waist. Clare wanted to remake a cushion cover with a nicer back panel & piping for a Christmas present. She learned how to use a zip foot to sew the piping inside bias cut satin, then sewed it to the cushion front panel, added a zip & then sewed the back panel which she chose our Black Stretch Microcord for. There were tricky parts but with great perseverance she has made a special gift just the way she imagined. Freya cut out a @sewoveritlondon Heather dress from a sweet jersey knit fabric with a stripe & birds print. Since the stripe is uneven, we decided not to align the stripes across the seams. This will also show off the clever design with a pocket coming from seams in the front panels. Freya got everything cut out, notches snipped in & sewed the first of those curved seams, learning how to fit the edges together. We aim to run an Open Sewing Class on a Saturday every month, but couldn’t squeeze one into December. The next class is on 18th January & there’s one space available to book. Me Made May Day 3: happy Friday! It’s been a crazy jam packed week at work but today was the last day of the teaching semester (though we’ve still got marking season coming in about 2 weeks!). Today I wore one of my secret pyjama work dresses - it’s so comfy, but looks rather smart! It’s the @sewoveritlondon Heather dress made 4-5 years ago in a Roma ponte fabric. The dress has a few minor pills where the Velcro on the inside of my heavy winter coat has caught it, but the dress is still very wearable and nowhere ready for retirement. Excuse the weary expression but it’s been a long day. On days like these when I’m visiting multiple schools I find myself reaching for a #soiheatherdress. I’ve recently added this plum long sleeved dress to my collection but haven’t had chance to post this make on my grid. This dress is so useful. It’s warm and comfortable but smart enough for work. Just finished my Sew Over It Heather dress. I made a straight size 14 but will attempt to size down and do a full bust adjustment next time. It’s made from a lovely knit fabric from Pound Fabrics which was so easy to sew up. My first ever #soiheatherdress made in a printed ponte knit purchased from #poundfabrics last year. It was a quick make but not the easiest to fit, I have taken it in a bit at the sides which helped. I'd like to try it again in a plain fabric, maybe black or navy.

This is a Heather dress by Sew Over it. I made it in a Cable knit Cloque Jersey fabric (navy colour way) purchased from @1stforfabrics The fabric is quite a heavy weight (340 gsm) and has 30-35 % widthways stretch and I would say it is perfect for this pattern as it is designed to be structured rather than flowy. It has princess seams along the front and back which is great for adjusting the fit particularly in the back as at the front the pocket is built into the seam. I seem to have a narrow back so it was fairly straightforward to take some fabric out of the lower back along the seam line. Overall I am very pleased with it. Although I am now hoping the weather warms up so I can put it away until next Autumn/Winter! #soiheatherdress @sewoveritlondon #handmadewardrobe

I’ve been wanting to make this dress with the new size range for a while and I think it’s a success! This is the Sew Over It Heather dress in a double knit blueish-grey fabric from Tissu Hemmers in the (new) size 6 graded to a size 8 at the hips. This fabric is mostly made up of viscose and has more drape than regular polyester double knits, so it’s stretchier and hangs a bit looser. I’ll probably make a straight size 6 next time and I might take this one in at the side seams from the hip down, but I think this one turned out well! The @sewoveritlondon #soiheatherdress had been on my list for the longest time so when I was lucky enough to win Sew Over It voucher from the #agifttonovember23 challenge I jumped on this pattern! The construction and instructions are great and it’s a fun make with really cool pockets! I made a size 12 and added 1” to the bodice above the waist. I removed 1.5” from the length. I also bound the neckline for a neat finish. I used my overlocker on the side and sleeve seams but not the princess seams so it wouldn’t be too bulky. The fabric is gorgeous blue ponte from @craftystudio.ie 💙 I’m not sure the fit or style is perfect for me…. Another project ticked off the super long To-Sew list and this one probably needs no introduction: The #SoiHeatherDress by @SewOverItLondon in lush maroon coloured textured ponte 💗 This medium-weight TENCEL™ Lyocell blend knit from Danish based @meetMILK_fabric has a subtle lustre, a luxurious soft touch and drape, and great recovery. 👌🏻 More colours available. ~~ Notes on the dress: As per other makers observations this pattern is very generous at the hip area and for me there was a lot of excess at the lower back. Made a size 10 based on my measurements but had to take it in around 4-5cm at either side of the hip and around 2-3cm at the bottom curved area in the back. Also took 8cm off the length (for reference I’m 173cm/5ft8 tall) as personal preference. Now that I’m back on campus most days I’m finding it much easier to take outfit photos. Today was a lecture day and I wanted to dress up for the occasion. I wore an old try @sewoveritlondon make from 5-6 years ago. It’s the Heather dress pattern and I made it in a Roma Ponte jersey. I don’t wear a lot of plain fabrics, but I really like how the plain fabric shows off the pattern details of this dress - it has the biggest and best pockets of almost all the dresses I own! Second Heather dress complete! I decided not to size down as the fabric I used, which is a polyester jersey, only had around 20-25% stretch, so I cut a straight size 14 again. As there wasn’t a great deal of stretch in the fabric, I used a black tubular cuffing jersey for the neck binding to make sure it lay flat. I also pattern matched the two front seams. I cut the back as one piece with the intention of sewing in a couple of darts, but decided against it, as I didn’t want to detract from the lines of the pattern and I like the easy fit. The pattern is by Sew Over It and is quick and easy to sew up. The fabric is from Fabricland Uk. Heather No. 4 🔹 from @sewoveritlondon. A joy to sew and a great dress for work 👍 jersey fabric is from @lensmillstore … a bit of a splurge but I really loved the print. I made a UK size 12 with few alterations except a few centimetres to the length and reduced the seam allowance on the sleeve. Happy Friday! This week was rather disjointed as I ended up in bed midweek with a migraine, but I’m feeling much better now thankfully!
