My #makenine2022 wasn’t as successful as I’d hoped but I did manage 5 and a half of them (I did a toile of the #portobellotrousers but didn’t get round to making a wearable pair.) I’m still planning on making the #pippipinafore and my first make in my sewing class will be the princess coat. Sewing machine print Lizzie skirt 🪡 🧵 As soon as I saw this @dashwoodstudio studio fabric I was obsessed! I had a voucher for @heysewsister.co.uk I won in a competition last year so as soon as it was released I bought 3m but I wasn’t sure what I was going to make with it. I had the idea to make a Sew Over It Lizzie skirt but the pattern says it can’t be made in narrow width fabric, so I contacted the team to find out. They were super helpful and confirmed it could be made with narrow fabric by tweaking the layout, though I had to fiddle with it more due to a directional print. (No I don’t know why the waistband machines are upside down 😅) However, as I found out, making it in narrow fabric is SUPER fabric hungry and I just squeezed this out of 3m! I do have a big long remnant however, so hopefully I can do something with that. I’ve made two of these skirts and usually size up to a size 12 but I keep finding them too big so I made my usual size 10. A note on sizing - there is no finish garment measurement for this skirt, only the body measurement. I made a 10 which is a 28 inch waist which is exactly my waist measurement but as you can imagine there’s not much wiggle room there. I ended up extending the waistband slightly and positioning the hook and eye right on the edge for a bit of breathing room! This was a super fun sew. I love doing pleats and my invisible zip went in perfectly first time and is completely invisible?!!! I also fully lined it. After nearly 18 months of overlocker ownership I finally had my first mishap and tore a huge hole, thankfully in the lining!!!! I’ve patched it up and vowed to be more careful from now on. I absolutely love this skirt and can see me wearing it loads in both winter and summer, and the print is just so fun! 🧵🌼 Me Made May - Day 30 🌼🧵 Back to reality and back to work after 12 wonderful days off. Trying not to think about the emails that are waiting for me 😳 or how long my To Do List will be. In the office today and it's supposed to get up to 21 degrees. I decided on a rtw pastel green cami top paired with a black Brodie Anglaise (from @poundfabrics) @sewoveritlondon Lizzie Skirt. I made this last year and it's one of my favourite Lizzie Skirts. The cotton holds the pleats beautifully and I find it flattering to wear. I am always conscious of my waistline in my other versions, but not this one. I've paired it with a white cardigan and my Sorentto Jacket. I am wearing brown heels in the photos but opted for white trainers as my feet and legs are still sore from all the walking I did last week! I’ve had this pattern in my stash for the longest time and I finally got around to make it in December. It’s a new to me pattern - the Sew Over It Lizzie skirt. It was a relatively quick sew and an enjoyable sew for sure. It then took me 2 weeks to attempt to sew the hook and bar…any form of hand sewing just doesn’t appeal to me! The instructions recommended using a structured fabric so I chose this floral poplin. It’s a great fabric except the beautiful pleats are hidden in this busy print. Next time I want to try and make a Lizzie skirt from a lighter fabric like a cotton lawn and perhaps one with less of a busy print. I really like how the pleats do not go all the way around the waist - they are omitted from the sides - so it’s not too bulky. I also love that this skirt has pockets. I own a couple of ready-to-wear skirts already that are similar in vibe to this one and I love them. When I realized that this fabric which I have lusted after for so long, came in a winter-weight substrate, I knew I needed to make something to build on my winter work wardrobe. I’ve had this pattern pinned for a while and thought it might pair well. The relative simplicity of the pattern lets the fabric shine, and the added slinky lining means it won’t stick to my tights! I graded between my usual sizes and found the pattern to be a fun and relatively straightforward make. Taking #memademay2024 as an opportunity to post some makes that haven’t made the grid. This is the #soilizzieskirt in a random, twill, probably home-dec fabric from the op shop. This is a toile, the linen in the last post was supposed to be for this but it never happened. It’s too big but it seems to be a lot of effort to take in the waist on a pleated skirt. Red linen top for Pentecost also from the op shop- will I refashion it as planned ??

❄️🎄 Sew Over It Lizzie Skirt🎄❄️ We treated ourselves to an afternoon at Chatsworth today to visit the house decorated for Christmas and wander around the very wet and chilly gardens. I wore one of my @SewOverItLondon Lizzie Skirts made in a lovely floral geometric cotton from @abakhan_manchester. I made this skirt a few years ago and have been trying to find a way to wear it in the winter months. I came across a thin jersey roll neck top in Sainsbury's a few months ago and knew it would go well with my Lizzie Skirts. I paired the outfit with black tights and a Vinted mustard cardigan, which I created a faux crossover closure. The outfit kept me lovely and warm (helped by the thermal vest) and I really loved how it looked! I will definitely be wearing it again! Alex and I had a lovely time wandering the gardens, expiring the coal mine tunnel, getting lost in the maze and toasting marshmallows. The house was beautifully decorated and made us feel very festive. Hopefully we will put our tree up tomorrow! Me Made May Week 2 The eagle eyed will spot that there’s only 6 outfits - my son was sick and requested a pj day but I did wear my liberty ones so sort of counts! What I made in March and April 🪡 One of my goals for the year was slower, better sewing. And March and April were definitely months of slower sewing! 2022 - the year I learned to sew! If you had told me this time last year i’d be showcasing even one item of clothing I’d made I wouldn’t have believed you!! But here I am, having made 13 things this year and having 9 to share as my favourites! Learning to sew has been the biggest gift and the biggest challenge of 2022. Every time I get caught up in a messy seam or tangled threads or a less-than-perfect pleat I have to remind myself I couldn’t even thread a sewing machine this time last year! I’m so proud of how far I’ve come since I started sewing (shout out to @drstitchcraft for inspiring me with a birthday dress and telling me “you’ll be able to make your own birthday dress next year”) and also to @ministryofcraftmcr for teaching me so much in their brilliant courses. I absolutely fell in love with this fabric when I saw it on @sewsewsewuk. I didn’t know if the colours would suit me but it was screaming to be a dress. I did the next best thing and made a co-ord. this is the @truebias Ogden cami and the @sewoveritlondon Lizzie skirt. I’ve made both these patterns before and really recommend them - they’re favourites of mine. I think they work perfectly together as a faux dress AND I get other outfits too!
