This #SOIJulietteBlouse has been sitting in the naughty pile for a few weeks. I hacked the centre front to add a button placket to make it breastfeeding friendly and even that 1” difference just set the whole garment out of balance and was so low cut that it didn’t really need buttons for boob access. This evening I adjusted the centre to hold shank buttons and folded the buttonhole placket back, adding rouleau loops to pull the whole thing back together. Now very much a wearable garment thankfully and one I hope will be a wardrobe staple. Always interesting…here’s my #topnine2021 I’ve made significantly less items this year (circa 25 compared to usually 45-50!), mostly down to two episodes of a serious case of missing sewjo where I didn’t feel like sewing anything for weeks on end. Day 2 of the amazing #thesewingweekender2021 from the ladies at @thefoldline and @charlotteemmapatterns has finished and I had another fabulous day chatting on the live zooms, watching interesting videos and making this blouse. This is a @sewoveritlondon Juliette Blouse in a barkcloth viscose. I cut a size 12, added a bust dart and shortened the sleeves by 8cm. I love the mandarin collar and the keyhole opening in to the cuffs. The dipped hem is really pretty and the little pleat in the back yolks makes the back lovely and floaty. I wasn’t sure I’d love the waterfall front but it hangs really beautifully and isn’t too ‘flouncy’. Also featured: red wool pencil skirt (wool twill is my new favourite fabric) and the coco jacket. Hi, mich gibt es auch noch. Mehr als existieren und arbeiten tue ich aber gerade nicht, meine Nähmaschine habe ich seit Wochen nicht angeguckt. Mittlerweile ist sogar die Wäsche zu machen schon eine Wellness-Erfahrung, weil mein Kopf nicht arbeiten muss. I thought for a while about getting a dress form or a mannequin. I decided in the end that a mannequin would do the job. Here is the #soijulietteblouse in 'between the lines' polyester from dashwood studio. I found the pattern instructions for the collar and frill a bit fiddly. I also made another #soikittydress dress in #rosefabric jersey and a #newlook6525 with split sleeves (view b) in #stretchvelvet at the weekend. Both were for my lovely daughter @amelia.hellyer and already delivered. Before moving to California, I wore “work dresses” everyday - black or navy wool with an a-line skirt and pearls. The typical New York corporate uniform. I think I owned two pairs of jeans and wore them on weekends maybe twice a month. One of the biggest shocks of our move was just how casual people dress for work - it’s all tshirts, hoodies and jeans all the time. I still wear dresses almost everyday, but I’ve swapped the wool suiting for my #handmadewardrobe. I’ve also started making some blouses for a more casual workday look. . . . This is the @sewoveritlondon #soijulietteblouse in a size UK8. I started working on it last winter, but it ended up languishing in my UFO pile for months after we moved. It’s made from #ladymcelroy florenza crepe with a beautiful peacock print. On today: the new @sewoveritlondon Juliette blouse. You know I'm in love with their pussy bow blouse so I was pretty excited about a new work blouse option. I had planned on making it last week but I've been sick for a few days. I'll admit, I wasn't quite sold on this design at first but I think it's growing on me. The fit is the same as the pussy bow blouse (no darts!) and I love the stand collar. note that the frill is double layer, also I prefer the cuffs with a rouleau loop closure instead of the button hole in this pattern.
