The Featherweight cardigan by Hannah Fettig (knitbot) is the perfect layer over summer dresses when it gets a bit chilly in the evenings. I modified mine to have full length sleeves and used 1x1 twisted rib for the collar so it sits flat and doesn’t roll. The yarn is a lovely soft and drapey BFL/silk blend from @debonnaireyarns - their Fat Lace / Skinny Sock in Deep Purple. I used just under 200g for the cardigan. I bought the yarn some years ago specifically to make this cardigan and I’m really pleased with how it turned out. Two of my makes were out and about last week! The blue dress is the Grace Dress by Sew Over It, and was actually the first dress I ever made back in 2020. I used the stitch school tutorial which was brilliant, however the dress didn't quite fit right (I didn't know what an FBA was at the time or that I needed one) so I was so happy it actually found a home with my friend- and it's really nice to see it still being worn 3 years later! My god daughter's dress is the Laurel dress by Little Lizard King, which I made for her 1st birthday. The dress was surprisingly quick to sew up (although I was still sewing minutes before leaving for the birthday party!). I got the fabric about a year ago from Guthrie and Ghani and originally I was going to make a baby grow for when she was born, I ended up a bit behind my sewing schedule and the next thing I knew she was turning 1! Finally took some time to photograph my makes from this year - for various reasons I haven’t been motivated to do so (busy mom/work schedule, not feeling great about how I look, and not having my old photo wall anymore to name a few!) but I decided today that all of those are work-around able and just went for it! Trying out this new photo spot and while I don’t love it, I also don’t hate it and it’s the best I’ve got until we get a bigger place! There’s no escaping the toddler takeover and this spot has the least amount of toddler stuff in it… my old photo wall is now my sewing space. Enjoying the unseasonably warm weather at Kew in my @sewoveritlondon Grace dress in Moda quilting cotton. I’m really pleased with the fit (did a full bust adjustment and narrow shoulder adjustment) but for my next one I would do a small forward shoulder adjustment and adjust the small amount of neckline gape. First make of 2021! This is my second Grace Dress by @sewoveritlondon 🦋 Fabric is by @hollizollinger purchased from @hansenprintandtex (how pretty is it!?) Only one small adjustment on this one to fix the gaping neck line! Never did one before but was SUPER easy and learnt how to do it through the online class through Sew Over It’s Stitch School 😃 🧵

My top makes of 2020! 🌟 I don’t have as many as others! I only really picked up sewing again in the second half of this year after a long break, but documenting all of my #memades has really kept me motivated to #justkeepsewing ! 2020 was a big year for me sewing wise! I made my first ever garment, started this account, learned so many new skills and discovered the HUGE insta sewing community. Starting this account was something way out of my comfort zone, however has been the best thing to keep me inspired and motivated to learn more! This is the #soigracedress from @sewoveritlondon The fabric is a vintage cotton from @fabric_outlet_newbridgecork and is a beautiful sew. I never really understand what vintage cotton is, but any that I have used has been beautiful to sew with. At €5 a meter, and using 1.4m for this beautiful dress, it is a bargain. This dress was the first item I sewed on my new Pfaff sewing machine, and it was great. I didn't really use my overlocker, except for the bodice/skirt seam, and finished most of the edges on my machine, something I would not have done on my old machine. I didn't toile it beforehand, but that was before I went to @sheila.okelly fitting class at @craftystudio.ie I have now learnt the error of my ways and will have to redo the bodice of this dress. It definitely needs some fitting adjustments. Feel free to tell me what they are 😉 I did tack skirt onto bodice and tack in zip before finishing the bodice, which really helped knowing what seam allowance to use. And in a moment of true enlightment, after all my recent bag making involving zips, I realise I can now insert a zip without labouriously following detailed instructions. So I’ll take that as a win. I could have taken some length off the pattern, as it is drafted for knee length , but when I tried it on, I liked the length on me, so just left it. I didn't bother with the belt, again becuase I liked the look before adding more details. And a tip I got from making my Skye dress from Tilly and the Buttons was to sew on bra stays, so I try and do this with any strapless dresses/tops now. #makenine2021 Hi and love to all - hope you all had a great holiday season and getting back to real life hasn’t been too painful! I have been a bit lax in my posting over the last couple of months between a trip to Belgium, two visits back to the U.K., trying to get on top of my studies, worrying about moving and then both my BF and I coming down with the covid over Christmas. I have been sewing - mostly practical (boring) things for myself and gifts for others that I obviously couldn’t share. My make nine for last year was one of the first posts on this account and I wanted to acknowledge how I did. 5/9. I think that’s not bad? My main goals for 2021 were mastering buttons and zips and I definitely think I’ve got those cracked. I will be doing a make nine for 2022 (currently a work in progress) and looking back at last year is really helping to shape that. There’s a recurring theme in the projects that I didn’t get round to making and it’s basically “where the hell am I wearing that to, the supermarket??” so that’s definitely at the forefront of my mind for this years plans. I do intend to return to regular posting as soon as I can bear to look at pics of myself - I’ve even been thinking about making a YouTube vlog discussing what I’ve learned from the challenge because I have lots of thoughts - though I’m not sure anyone would watch it (not least because I still have post-covid congestion and I sound DREADFUL). So actual sewing is actually happening!! I'm making a toile for the Sew Over It Grace dress which I'll be sewing up in this gorgeous Selkie Patterns sweet treats cotton sateen for my cousin's wedding (swipe to see) First up I definitely need to bring the shoulders in (as expected) and I'm going to take a little length out of the bodice to make it more IBS bloat friendly. I think shortening the bodice may also take care of where it's a little baggy under the bust. It fits well at the high bust and waist so I don't think I'd want to size down & do an FBA. At the moment the shoulder seams are also sitting further back than they should, but I suspect once I bring the shoulders in plus the weight of the skirt this will be corrected. Likewise it looks like I need a small swayback adjustment, but I suspect once I shorten the bodice I won't need it. So for now I'm going to do the shoulders and take 1.5cm out of the length of the bodice and then see where I'm at. Happy Christmas Eve, friends! Trying to channe the Mrs. Claus 🤶🏼 vibe in this Laneway-Grace mash up. I originally planned to sew up the entire #jlhlanewaydress but I didn’t consider matching up the plaid pattern from the skirt to the bodice. Oops! Luckily, I had enough fabric to cut the #soigracedress skirt and pockets patterns to mash up with the dress. This mash up turned out better than I expected. 🎄 👉🏼pretty happy with pattern matching at the back. 👉🏼👉🏼 I made a size 10 with C cup. This is the first time I went with a C cup. My first full week of summer holiday coincided with the start of my BF travelling for work again, which means I’ve had plenty of time for sewing, and occasionally remembering how bored and miserable and lonely I’d be had I not discovered sewing. Eternally grateful to myself for having the spontaneous whim to buy a sewing machine last year and accidentally finding the best hobby ever 😂 My New Years sewing resolutions were to a) learn buttons and b) learn zips. I dived in right away in Jan with buttons but when it came to zips I was still avoiding them like the plague. Until now! I don’t know if it’s beginners luck or a case of me building something up in my head to be harder than it is (me? lol) but for a first attempt, that zip is pretty invisible! When I say I was chuffed with myself... The Grace dress by @sewoveritlondon is on my #makenine2021 list so it’s good to tick another one off - it’s also my entry for #sewtogetherforsummer ☀️ I really liked this pattern, the bodice construction was also something new for me. It’s a pretty versatile wee frock - it could go quite party depending on the fabric, but in this wafty double gauze it’s a great sundress.
